A lesser creator would “tell” us all about how this letter made him feel. But you “showed” us, perfectly, in story form; cue the feels and the tears. Masterclass❤️
Peter, you probably won’t see this. I have several mental health disorders including major depressive disorder and OCD. Your content is one of the primary drivers that inspired me to create and start my own channel. Thank you - A stranger
Ok, probably one of the most MOVING pieces I've seen from you Pete. This touched my heart... As a gulf war vet, dealing with my own trauma's in life. I can honestly say, You are an inspiration to us all. What you do is moving and meaningful. Thank you Peter, and David... Your story was heart warming and spoke to me. I hope to see your art someday.
I’m literally crying. That one hit differently. That one I felt I find that I have a harder time in life when I’m not able to express myself or my passion and it feels like I’m being held down and suppressed. Art in any form, or a hobby of any kind, can be an upgrade to anyone’s life imho. This was literally breathtaking.
To David; maybe you were always meant to create inorder to live fully. Whatever the path, glad you found inspiration to live fully. That is, in my opinion, the inspiration of art like Peter's.
It's 4am. I'm crying. I've spent 581 days now going to work, coming home, feeding my two cats and then sitting motionless on a couch until I fell asleep in the spot where I sat...waking up and repeating the process... 581 days of a depressive state I never thought I'd experience in my life. I've stripped my socials. No contact with people or even family. I hadn't seen your videos in almost 2 years and you've always been a source of inspiration... And this was the video I came back to... And it hit hard. Just like David their has been an ugly internal battle including suicide ideation. I'm becoming better very slowly... This weekend I'll be certified in suicide intervention. I love creating things but haven't in almost 7 years because of what's been going on in my life. I don't believe in "signs" or anything like that but David's letter and your quietly, visually thoughtful response being the first video I've watched of yours for a couple years, as well as finally wanting to get back to making things simply for the joy of making things couldn't have been more "right" in this moment. Thank you for your content, the amount of work you put into it and sharing your enthusiasm for what you love with a lot of strangers who you don't know need that. It's 4:30am... I'm going to stop crying... And go make something. To echo David... Thank you... For everything you do.
This is powerful! Seeing a man like David being vulnerable by writing this note and stand up on his legs again after the darkness he went through, is amazing to me. Powerful story. Thanks for sharing it. Hope life finds you well David.
This video hits home a little more, I also found you in 2020 but my experience was different since I decided to become a creator. 2020 I did not want to go on, I battled depression, life was going nowhere and I was truly just struggling as a single father. I found that I enjoyed creating content even though I was no good at it. I liked trying products and sharing my experience and even better I enjoyed making money on something I enjoy doing. Fast track 3 years later and I am a full time content creator, this channel is not where my income is but I hope one day to get there. Being on camera shaped my entire life and everything about it, I even started getting healthy and lost 80lbs during it. You really are an inspiration to a lot of people Peter, in more ways than you ever might realize. YOU did not save me but you helped me learn how to save myself and I still suck but will continue to grow.
Powerful life lesson. By sharing his love of storytelling and photography with others, he had found a way to bring light into the world and, in turn, back into his own life. David, thank you for sharing so powerful. Peter & kirk, Thank you!
Pete is one of the biggest reasons I fell in love with photography, and I’ll forever be grateful to him for that. So it’s incredible knowing that there’s others out there who could relate with me on that. Thank you for being an inspiration to so many people Pete, and may God bless you always.❤
Very touching. This kind of message makes the art you create come full circle and really hits home. What a unique story, and hearts out to this secret service member and his recovery! Thanks Pete for always inspiring me to create something better than myself, that will lift and build others around us!
Anytime someone asks me who I watch on RUclips or who I look up to on this journey in photography I say Pete. Not because of solely photography, video, or even vlogging. It is because a lot of creators on this platform lack the empathy and human touch you provide to this platform that so easily moves others. Someone that supports others, truly shares their story and members of their communities stories. Not self absorbed or touched by the lime light but a genuine person who cares about others no matter how big or small. I hope others find this video as it is one of the best in my opinion that touches on harsh subjects and doesn't discount someones story, thank you for sharing this it was needed. I hope that if you are ever struggling we are here for you not only as a community but as friends. Signing off. -Owen
I've always said that it takes one person doing what they do normally to touch someone's life and make a difference. Thank you for being that person Pete, love this.
I feel so emotionally connected that tears came out as a thankful way to express how grateful I'm since a friend of mine show me your channel. You allow me to continue living a better and more focused life ... Thanks, Pete Mc!
I love to see how others can express their selves with this kind of art. I’m doing film making since 4 years now.. I always knew how to take the pictures, but I never brought them together.. this is how my life actually feels. Lots of love to you all. Please never stop trying. Start doing. See you on the other side
Your expansions of the edges of creativity in 2023... are bringing me to tears and activating a whole new level of creative catharsis for me. Thank you... for creating.
Beautifully written, David. He speaks for so many of us, Pete. This channel, your photos, your videos lift us out of the mundane, ordinary, and often overwhelming parts of life. You inspire us to pick up our own camera and create. Thank you.
Probably the best, most moving and inspiring video I've seen on the internet. Thank you Peter for inspiring millions of people to follow their passion and congrats David for still being here with us and helping others survive the same struggles you did! Tears are still leaking out of my eyes and streaming down my cheeks. God well done Sirs!
Thank you Pete for sharing David's message and inspiring so many of us ! I am very moved by this video as I'm typing those lines. My eyes are tearing up. I cannot thank you enough for all the work you are doing and all those amazing videos and photos you are sharing with us throughout the years. Always one of my favorite. Sending all my love to David and all the people suffering with depression and mental health disorders...
Peter your ability to tell stories through thoughtful photography is what I love the most about you, you set the tone, the color balance & actually tell a story! We are taken on a journey with the words & moved by the subject matter. Your ability to shave off all the frills & hit you in your core with "simple" imagery is unmatched. So inspiring, it's like the less you do, the more impactful the video becomes 📷🔥🇬🇧
PETE! This was a beautiful message and a beautiful video. Seriously well done. You should be proud and David isn’t the only one appreciates you. Thank you Peter. (p.s please make more short films like this we all love them)
Awesome video. I worked LE in Oklahoma and also had my bout with depression and suicide. This video hit home in so many ways for me. I have retired and I’m now living in the Philippines, enjoying life. My RUclips channel never went anywhere, but the skills I learned from you and Matti are not being wasted. I just make my videos for me and my wife, and I’m getting more into photography. Thank you.
I have watched this probably 20 times now. I myself have been dealing with depression, anxiety and substance abuse since I lost my father unexpectedly in 2021, then the love of my life left me 4 months later for my best friend. Life has been a struggle ever since. Until. I found your page. I was starting to lose hope that my photography wasn't going anywhere. You have been such a huge motivator for me to keep pursuing my dream. Your videos always brighten my day, especially when im feeling down and lonely. I have learned a lot in the last few months of following you and im excited to get out there and make some dope B-Roll that you'll hopefully critique some day. 2 weeks ago I crushed my first Wedding, and I have some grad photoshoots coming up this summer. Thank you Peter.
I’m a first year university student studying television production. Whenever I feel uninspired or down I always come back to your videos and they never fail to re-ignite my imagination and passion. You’re an inspiration Peter, thank you.
Really great one and as expected really good story delivery... You created a huge impact on society and also on my life Mr. Pete, we are really greatfull to see your stories and your work.
creating is bonding with others and sometimes saving others, I can't put into words how beautiful this was, thank you for sharing this with us, and the way you did it made my respect for you go beyond words, i feel so lucky & grateful i got to learn so much from a person like you through the years
Hard to type through the tears hearing David’s story! David you are an inspiration! Peter your work touches us and so many THANK YOU, for being such a positive force! Fly the flag! ~Cara ❤
Dude this right here. This is "it". This captures that hard to define answer for "why do humans create?". It's the amorphous intangible substance that drives creativity and inspiration. Your tutorials and personality got us all watching, but it's your passion and videos like this that kept us following along for the ride; all these years. Thank you Pete. I needed this today.
This was beautiful. Thank you Special Agent for sharing your journey, and your darkness. Through our darkness we are able to provide a path for those suffering in their own darkness, into the light. And thank you @petermckinnon for all you do for this community.
Needed this, I’ve been creating for three years after being inspired by your content. It’s 6am and I haven’t slept right in weeks… or filmed a single TikTok for my fans. This video was such a sobering watch. ❤
I love these short films with such heart and meaning. They inspire me, just like they inspired David. Whenever I need to get back to creating, I watch a few Peter McKinnon short films and then I get to work. I need to get a Texas flag to fly.
I've come back to this video at least once a month since it was uploaded. It's such an emotional and inspirational piece of content, more than any 'How To' or 'Tips & Tricks'. I don't think I'll ever get bored of this. And like David said, Pete, thank you for creating and inspiring all of us.
You were an inspiration to me getting started too. It can be a tough world to navigate right now and I also want to help people enjoy the simple things in life.
My dearest Pete ... I came upon your channels years back and I was mesmerized by them because I learned more from you than most people when it comes to photography technics. Your skills are amazing. And this time this video of yours really caught me by surprise that I got tears starting to leak from my eyes and I happily smiled all the way listening to your version of the story. People like you are the REASONS why some of us get forward into some unsuspected hobbies or plans in life and I never knew that what I do or did have an impact on some people out there as well. I did my family Vlog channel here last year after we had gone through so much since Covid and the aftermath of the Russian-Ukraine war left such a repercussion that influenced our daily lives. Truthfully, saying these are strange and dark times for most of us and we are striving hard to survive. I learned to pick up my camera again and dust has long settled on it. Since then, I seen things differently by learning to see through the lens differently and how I understood what it captures and what lessons of life it shows me. I see not only beauty but merely the story of my life that I had created with my family. And, I want to keep it this way for as long as I can because some things in life we cannot put on repeat. To have a camera that captures events that shows me there is more to it than just the photography moments. It is LIFE. Thank you for being here, Peter! You keep on going on what you really love to do. 🍒SHERRY🍒
This video hit home in so many levels. Thank you Peter for sharing and David stay strong and continue to hold that line! One last thing, Peter you have no idea what an impact you have on a lot of that follow your channel. You give hope where there is none. You give laughter where there is sadness. God Bless You!
I follow Peter from the start and I was watching his channel grow until now from Somalia. I do videos and I believe Peter tought me so many things. I learned what "B-Roll" means of his videos, two minutes Tuesday which always exceeds two 2 minutes and I didn't care. Although I didn't do videos as business, but I believe it's a skill I can makes something good out of it. Thanks Pete, you are awesome human being and please keep up the work, because me and David are examples of those who follow you all around the world.
One thing that always sticks with me is no matter how big or small your channel is, there’s always someone watching and you’ve had an impact on them. Inspiring. 💙💪🏻
I cried within the first minute. Absolutely moving and creative and touching … and true. Thank you to both of you for expressing yourselves. I am a creative and I truly believe that ART in any form can save people. X
Peter you are truly one of the biggest inspirations in my life and journey with photography , this is beautiful thank you for this and thank you, for you , thank you for you Greetings from South Africa
'' Life is a series of dope coffee montages and sweet b-roll while the bucket shots of Life are the pictures we impress on others '' ...Brings tears to my eyes. Beautiful !
I like many others I see writing here was inspired by Peter's videos... these years I took photography from an experiment to a hobby and a coping mechanism for my anxiety, I still go out every weekend to take pictures and it's all thanks to that first inspiration some years ago... it's hard to think how different things were in those days but I'm glad what I achieved in that time and part of it was thanks to that inspiration and this community... thanks to everyone.
That was a nice gesture. You know, sometimes we don’t know how much we can effect people lives. In your case you gave someone hope and meaning back to their life, without even knowing. Keep up the great work!
Story sharing at its finest . . . Why we create indeed. Any of us - somewhere in there we find hope, beauty, delight, wonder, awe, curiosity, play - even if only for ourselves. And if only for ourselves as we share it with others.
As someone who has depression and has survived an attempted suicide, photography has definitely saved me. As cliche, as it sounds, I believe some of you guys can agree with me on this. I followed your work since 2018 and you have been a huge inspiration to me. You have inspire me to be a great creator and to continue to create. I can't say how grateful I am to you pete 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 - just your Malaysian average -
Thanks for sharing! Its the best when what we create here on RUclips can inspire others in many ways, like so many of our viewers have done by Living Their Dream! Pura Vida from Costa Rica. Keep having fun!!
As an ex-drug addict of over 20 years and survivor of 2 failed attempts at my own life and now 3 years clean of drugs, drink and smoking I would like to thank you for inspiring someone strong enough to share their message and keep my going in mine. Bless you brother! And David, all the best sir in the next steps towards your road of recovery.
Such a touching video. There is so many David's struggling out there .. Hope they somehow get the strength to speak it up and seek for help.. Congrats on sober up David! Keep on inspiring others ❤ We all matter somehow. Never forget that. Thanks for being an inspiration Pete ❤
I couldn't agree more as a Disabked Veteran of Afghanistan, this really spoke to me as well. Thanks for being an inspiration in creativity and photography.
I was on my way from filming another “no one s going to watch” vlog and was feeling down that after 2 years of work I am not seeing much results here.. Then I clicked this. I was listening to this video, while drinking a Starbucks cold brew thinking Pete would probably have made fun of it. (There was no blue bottle near by Pete) Then i started to cry. This is the reason why I must continue to create. To inspire someone. This isn’t about me. This should not be ego driven. Thank you. I think I realized something.
I'm so glad you also told us what you shot this with. It adds a whole new layer to these heavy topics. The story makes much more sense now. Thanks Pete
Peter, you continue to show us that one person can make a difference. David, you are an inspiration because you show us that we can make a difference in our own lives and the lives of the ones we love. Thank you both!
Thank you Peter for sharing this. Thank you for your inspiration. I to was changed by you. I originally got into photography because of depression, divorce and a bad job. The first video I saw of yours was 8 Camera hacks in 90 seconds. I hit a wall with my photography and ran out of inspiration. Desperate to shot something different to keep myself from spiraling into the void of sadness I was feeling, I came across your video and have been following you ever since. Over the years I’ve had highs and lows but you were always there to pull me out of my depths of sadness with your beautiful and fun spirit. You got me through the height of C-19. I binged all the videos I hadn’t seen while I was on my lunch just to keep from being sad from all the death surrounding me. Thank you for all you do for all of us and the silent ones that watch but never comment. Thank you for saving my mental state as well. God bless you.
Wow!! Truly inspiring, both you and David. That hit hard! I have put my camera down for almost 3 years due to various life issues, my world was rocked hard in Dec 2019, although I am not 100% my passion never died thank God and this just gave me the shove that I truly needed. Thank you for sharing & congrats to David 🤍
This why we create , why we capture, record, draw, build and paint all kinds of creation can inspire others in dark times regaurdless if you know them or not to see the light in life and create for themselves .. so thank you Pete for all you do , all you create you inspire us as a community to follow our dreams and FLY OUR FLAG 💪
Wow, that was amazing. To David, if you are reading the comments. Head up, look forward and please continue to tell your story. Reach as many people as you can. May you have many blessings and find peace.
This almost made me cry… this… this is why I want to create.. why is started to begin with.. as someone with PTSD I know the feeling of depression all to well.. how low the Lows can be.. I hope that by sharing my story through content I can help inspire others who are silently suffering and as well sharing the lessons that have helped me move forward! Thank you for sharing this video with us!
Peter, you are so talented to tell simple story with just some footage, no extra transition and stuff that gives headache. Beautiful letter by David ans beautiful montage to simply tell us this story :')
I don’t usually comment like this so I apologize but this was important to me. I saw a brand new upload from Pete while making my coffee, and had to watch it.. what I didn’t expect was to feel overwhelmed with tears and this feeling that of connection. To preface, I am a Disabled Marine Veteran on a similar journey as David. To David, you’re not alone in this fight my friend and congratulations on the road to recovery, being back to full duty, and your choice to help others in this fight with mental health…and to Pete.. you’ve touched more lives in unexplainable ways and thank you for the help, positivity, teachings and vibes that you give to us.. I’ve just had my 4th surgery on my road to recovery from something that happened while on active duty and your videos have kept me company and kept me positive. Thank you my friend 🏴☠️
i was struggling with identity in college. And then i found you, you got me in into photography and finally this year, I made my own channel and hope to inspire people just like you. Thank You Peter Mckinnon
Well now, Ain’t this a bit special ✨ Congratulations DAVID (GO YOU GOOD THING!). & PETER weeeell, I think 🤔💭 my words won’t be seen by you, all I can say is Like David… THANK YOU🫵🏻, I’m 61yo cancer survivor (among other things) and 3 years into my camera journey, you are such an Inspiration my friend. There are very few youtubers in the photography space who actually make beautiful videos. But you are up there Peter!

This is why I started watching RUclips specifically Pete. Not the technicals, not the tricks but the storytelling. Thank you for not stopping Pete.
Oh YES! And isn’t this a beautiful story? Omg!
I’m a first year university student studying television production. Whenever I feel uninspired or down I always come back to your videos and they never fail to re-ignite my imagination and passion. You’re an inspiration Peter, thank you.

🍒SHERRY🍒
This is the most heart strings tugging video from you Pete. Thank you for sharing David's story with all of us.
This video hit home in so many levels. Thank you Peter for sharing and David stay strong and continue to hold that line!
One last thing, Peter you have no idea what an impact you have on a lot of that follow your channel. You give hope where there is none. You give laughter where there is sadness. God Bless You!
Thank you.
David and Peter 🙏🏼❤️
God bless you all
I follow Peter from the start and I was watching his channel grow until now from Somalia.
Inspiring. 💙💪🏻
David, thank you for YOUR courage and inspiration. Peter, thank you for this wonderful tribute back to David.
just "love" in a pure way, it's what I felt in this video. Thank you Pete for sharing.
I cried within the first minute. Absolutely moving and creative and touching … and true. Thank you to both of you for expressing yourselves. I am a creative and I truly believe that ART in any form can save people. X
The way art touches people and help them in so many ways will always be inspiring. Thank you Pete
Man. It's so moving. Brought tears to my eyes. I miss this type of videos from Peter
Peter you are truly one of the biggest inspirations in my life and journey with photography , this is beautiful thank you for this and thank you, for you , thank you for you Greetings from South Africa
Right in the feels. Wow, wow. Blessing to have you on the internet and grateful for what you've spread. Thanks Peter for sharing
So true, when i was deep down there years ago, Pete and the vibe he constantly share through his videos helped me to get over that period in my life.
this is so Peter McKinnon OG shot! Thanks David for writing and Pete for creating and inspiring, much love!
I have never seen a video in this aspect ratio , he just breaks every rule so beautifully that it never feels odd
Thanks for IT not being all about you, but sharing about others and the struggles WE all FACE. Touching.
This actually made me cry.. You inspired millions of people, and made us take photography to heart. Thank you for inspiring all of us! Lot's of Love!
LIFE IS A SERIES OF DOPE COFFEE MONTAGES AND SWEET B ROLL WHILE THE BUCKET SHOT OF LIFE ARE THE PICTURES WE IMPRESS ON OTHERS.
I can't say how grateful I am to you pete 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
- just your Malaysian average -
Thanks for sharing!
Keep on inspiring others ❤
We all matter somehow. Never forget that.
Thanks for being an inspiration Pete ❤
Bought a tear to my eye just watching this as I know soo many people that have and still suffer from depression.
As an alcoholic myself, this is so relatable and I instantly become emotional. Thank you for sharing @peter and @david.
(There was no blue bottle near by Pete)
Then i started to cry.
This is the reason why I must continue to create. To inspire someone.
This isn’t about me. This should not be ego driven.
Thank you. I think I realized something.
Amazing story! Thank you, Peter from all of us.
Thank you Peter! Thank you David for sharing your story.
Rooting for David with tears in my eyes. What a lovely tribute to his words Peter. Some really nice words.
Got me crying into my breakfast burrito.
Thank you Pete. Thank you David. Thank you Photography.
That was beautiful man. Amazing story from David, amazing film from you.
I agree, create keeps you alive and can help others. Spread creativity!
That's one of the most beautiful and heartfelt things I've ever heard from someone so hard.
I've watched your channel for years and gotta say thank you, the impact you make is incredible!
Питер, ты один из тех людей кто вдохновляет учится и развивать свой RUclips канал! Спасибо тебе за это!
your videos is how I got hooked on photography back in 2015-2016 and love it more to this day
Peter, you are so talented to tell simple story with just some footage, no extra transition and stuff that gives headache.
