  • This is the first installment of the series Waterfowl Wednesday. In this segment I go over the different types of calls and the materials they are made out of. I also go over the calls that I use and why I like them. Hopefully this video teaches you a thing or two about duck calls!

    A good chuck-chuck-chuck-chuck-chuck mixed with some feeding chuckles and that lazy, slow, raspy finish on a 4-6 note cadence, just like the Josh demonstrated, is money in the bank. Yeah, maybe a hail, but seems like 75% of the birds we hail at just keep going anyway to where they're going and hailing is more for us thinking we're doing something as "great hunters" than the ducks care about! If you're in a good ducky spot, a guy doesn't need to overdo the calling, in my opinion. Gotta say that the whistle call...mallard drake squib/teal/pintail/widgeon is a great call to have on the strap. Mid to late season in the mid-latitudes of the Mississippi and Central Flyways after those duckers have been shot at for months and months, that mallard squib call is money!

    This is great. Why? Here's why.
    I know nothing about ducks, ducks calls, or waterfowl. I decided to learn to duck hunt and bought a couple of calls so I could practice.
    I've been introduced to a new wonderful world and this fellow is teaching me as I go. Wonderful videos, tailored to someone who doesn't know much. I'm really enjoying them and I'll let you know how the calling goes.

    Love the vids! I have been watching for awhile and was curious to see what goose call you use. I use a Zink Calls Power Clucker and that seems to be the one for me. But, you should make a small segment on your next Waterfowl Wednesday on the goose call you use!

    Bobby makes awesome calls, I started on the handcut conartist also. Check out his handcut loud timber too if you ever want to change, it's a fantastic call. Also Lares hybrid and t1 are legit. I'm about to try a committed custom calls snubnose, should be sweet.

    Okay this is for all you guys out there yes it's a custom call and yes it cost $125 but Matt Pierce out of California learn from the legendary Paul Kingyon. I have some of Paul's calls and I don't even use them anymore because there were so much money. Matt has got it down and makes excellent calls out of wood there are no brakes it's an actual musical instrument.

    What do you prefer delrin , polly , wood or acrylic calls ?

  • @mjohnston34
    @mjohnston34 7 лет назад

    Calls are also made out of delrin! The sound is a little different than wood and acrylic. The loudness is in between those two as well.

  • @jantzenmoore2250
    @jantzenmoore2250 7 лет назад

    Wood and acrylic from beaver creek 👍🏻

  • @jamiecope5382
    @jamiecope5382 2 года назад

    Those whistles are pretty good for a cheap call the problem is is you can't flutter your tongue to make the real sound of the bird

  • @zacharyjohnston1000
    @zacharyjohnston1000 4 года назад

    Coriam aluminum antler and hard rubber are some other materials most olt calls are hard rubber

  • @jamiecope5382
    @jamiecope5382 2 года назад

    Louder calls you can make them sound quiet I was I would always rather have a loud call that I can make sound quiet it's the tone that matters and that's a preference too. I hunt mostly on refuges down in California and quiet is important.

    Cut the air off quicker when you call. Itl sound better. Also use your entire hand when you call. It puts more inflection into each note.

      william wright My pops was a duck bio in the Miss Flyway and I still blow the wooden Yentzen double- and triple-reeds he was blowing back in the '70s and '80s. Never once had to tune them or modify them. They aren't for calling competitions, but they sure work for talking to ducks!

    you are not a bad caller but drop the start up note before your hail call.. ducks don't usually do this.
    Also price is not necessarily an indicator of quality.. you can get a great sounding duck call for under $50
