  • While some saw a seven-game series against the Leafs as a disadvantage, the Bruins used the momentum from Game 7 and rolled it right into their series with the Panthers with a 5-1 Game 1 win. How surprising was a Bruins victory in Game 1? Should the Panthers be worried about Sergei Bobrovsky? TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss.

I am not surprised at all, the Bruins are in high playoff intensity mode, while Florida has been off just practicing and healing. Not to forget Swayman is hot as a firecracker. As others have mentioned, the "Bs beat Florida all 4 games this season" and are striking while the iron is hot! The question is not can the Bs win some games, it is can they close them out, if and when the moment presents itself.

  • @TheDerpp

my question is, was it Floridas shortcomings that made the Bruins look so good, or was it Bostons execution and gameplan that allowed them to capitalize on their chances? they had more time & space to operate in Game 1 than they did the entire series against the Leafs

In Game 1 the Bruins roster had 12 players who were 6' 3" or taller AND over 200 lbs; the Panthers roster had 4 players who were 6' 3" or taller AND over 200 lbs. The average Bruins player was 6' 2.5" and 210 lbs; the average Panthers player was 6' 1.6" and 199 lbs (a Bruins player, on average was 11 lbs heavier and .9 inches taller than a Panthers player). The median Bruins player was 6' 3" and 208 lbs and the median Panthers player was 6' 1" and 195 lbs. (Bruins medain size advantage 2 inches and 13 lbs)
When you eliminate the shortest and lightest 3 players and the 3 tallest and heaviest players from each roster the median and the average size difference remains, relatively, the same. When you eliminate the 2 shortest and smallest players and 2 tallest and heaviest players from each roster, the averages and the medians again remain reletivly the same. No matter how you look at this statistically, the Bruins are a much bigger team . It will be intersting to see how this factors in to the series.

Think the Leafs playing well enough to take Boston to 7 games OT - helped the Bruins.
Had Marner not given up on his back checking responsibilities at the blue line in OT handing Bruins their winning goal - the Leafs could easily have won over Boston in the First Round. So Bruins Fans thank Mitch very much - for messing up again come playoffs.
Why does the Leaf Core 4 (namely Mitch) always screw up in the playoffs to disappoint Leaf Fans so much? 😀

2:01 - "As much as we talk about the Florida Panthers being this big strong physical team the thing that really cost them in this game is they were not sharp with the puck."
Yea, they were not sharp with the puck because they are simply not a good hockey team. They're just a bad team that plays dirty and tries to hurt people. It's an embarrassment to the sport that this is one of the best winning strategies in playoff hockey. You can't risk suspensions in game 1 and the Bruins have a little more of the dirt themselves this year behind Pat Maroon. If the Panthers get down enough games we'll see more of the baby antics. If it goes to a game 6-7 and the Panthers are risking elimination I suspect we'll see the Panthers fight the Bruins and maybe some hockey will break out. We'll be lucky if they don't bring weapons on the ice, and if they did that to the Bruins the league would probably ignore it. I just hope no one loses their career or life to serious injury.

Hockey fans are sexist in the sense they would rather watch the NHL playoffs over the PWHL playoffs. What's the point of the women having their own pro league if no one is going to be a fan of their product? Leafs are eliminated but Toronto PWHL team is about to start their Walter Cup playoffs on Wednesday against Minnesota but no one cares. I blame the media for failing the women for not promoting and marketing the PWHL to the fans. Toronto still has a chance at hockey glory if the Toronto PWHL can claim the first ever Walter Cup trophy. Also, anyone who says they don't watch the PWHL because it's boring are trolls and close minded as they have a sexist mindset that women should never be allowed to play pro sports at all. Marie Phillip Poulin and Natalie Spooner would disagree with the trolls and haters that disrespects their sport by saying the PWHL is boring.

Easy an answer: the PWHL is equivalent of boys bantam hockey and it is not even close in quality of play or excitement. That isn’t sexist, it is factual. Men are just better than women at sports except for gymnastics and that deals with genetics. You can’t force shit onto people and trying to claim that both genders are equal cause they clearly aren’t nor should they be.
