Agreed, too. I give my dwarf a 26cm wheel, he love it so much that even today, turning 2, he is still running. I am so happy that I have learned so much on hamsters by your channel, too. We do learn everyday too xx
I’m glad you mentioned that hamsters are always on the move. Only 1/5 of my hamsters sat still and would cuddle and that’s generous. They are prey animals and do not like sitting still. People on TikTok ask how I got her to cuddle and truly, I did nothing. From the moment I brought her home she liked cuddles. It’s just super rare and their personality matters
exactly! i've always found, over decades now, that very few are happy to be sat & petted for very long...makes me concerned when i see all these videos, all seem to come from the same couple of countires, of hamsters apparently passive & still..while some idiot is dressing them up or putting them through daft obstacle courses, i often wonder if theyve drugged them! They really shouldnt be so docile. its not natural...they're happiest pottering about in constant motion once they awake!
People be like, "Why my hamster isn't using its wheel?" and then show a picture of a syrian hamster next to a 5 inch wheel. 💀 Hm, yes, I wonder why this hamster isn't using a wheel that's gonna brake its back. My dwarf had a teeny tiny wheel before I rescued her, seeing her on it made me so sad, now she has a 11 inch wheel and she absolutely loves it. She also started to properly burrow 2-3 months ago, it took her quite some time to start doing it, but I never thought about lessening her bedding depth, because I always had hope she would start doing it and she finally did! And I was so overjoyed since in her previous home she didn't have any way to burrow (she lived on wood pellets), I'm so happy she gets to do what's natural for her. 🥰
I learn something new each time I watch one of Victoria's videos! Syrian hamsters have only been domesticated for 86 years! My Syrian hamster Wink has never liked interaction, but will tolerate me stroking his fur while he eats. (sometimes he relaxes a lot and closes his eyes🥰)
For people who use hemp bedding, or want to, If you mix hemp and hay (60:40 +/-) it holds burrows as nicely as paper or other substrate that holds tunnels alone :)
My friend gave me hamster as a Christmas gift. Obviously that’s a bad idea and you shouldn’t do that, but what’s worse was that I had no experience with hamsters. But in less than 2 days, with the help of research, your videos, and help from other hamster owners, I got a huge cage, with 26 cm of bedding and a large hamster wheel (my friend gave me food and a bottle). Soon I also got her treats, toys and enrichment. I’m saying this because 1. your channel is super helpful for new hamster owners like me, and I really really appreciate your videos and 2. people say that they are too busy or they can’t get proper hamster care or it’s too hard, but without any experience I was able to do it just in a day so yea (I’m not saying that everybody has the same resources as I do and they should all be able to get good hamster care I’m just saying that some people just do not care enough)
It's so crazy to me that people give pets as gifts... It's such a weird idea, even if one has knowledge about care (which rarely happens), a pet is a commitment. It's like giving a two-year responsibility to someone else without knowing if they are up for it... Some people even give dogs or cats, which is completely crazy, that's many years of commitment. Maybe people think that pets are more like living toys... I'm glad your hamster found someone so responsible and caring though
@@yuris.3167 yes! It’s a living creature. people can’t just give animals as gifts, especially without informing beforehand. Loving your educational videos! I just recently got my first hamster and I have learned so much from watching your videos! My hamster has been showing lots of signs of happiness and enjoyment I’ve seen her drink and eat, chew her toys, burrow, forage, and run on her wheel! She has a lot of energy some times and runs around cage chew toy to toy. she’s still getting used to me and I accidentally spook her as I sit next to her at my desk but luckily not enough to freak her out as she will go right into grooming herself or snacking excited to learn more about my furry friend as well as from your videos!!!
thank you for sharing the wheel fact my baby dwarf hammy died and we think he died from kidney failure he wasn't running on his wheel we didn't take him to the vet cause we thought he was fine but you helped me with my hammy care i think if my second hammy watched you he would be very happy you are the best
Interesting topic! ^^ A thought: Could you make a video about the topic "DIY - Savety first"? Cause I feel like there is a huge DIY trend for pet owners and you can find so many DIY ideas online, but a lot of those are useless for hamsters or dangerous even. And many people may not know what DIY project is safe for hamsters and which could be dangerous.
Love your new office/filming station layout 😌 I have a Russian dwarf hamster, and I catch her coming to drink water in the day but she is my bedroom so I spend a lot of time in there lol 😆 She really does not care about being held lol but when she sits still for 5 seconds she's always glaring at me deviously 🫠 Also, fun fact I have the same plant as yours, the flowering one on the left :)
Hey Victoria! I’m getting a SONGMICS pet playpen as my hamsters cage today, with a total of 1,500 sq inches of floorspace! This is almost TRIPLE the size of her current 110 qt. Bin cage! Im so excited! Thank you for helping me give my hamster proper care ❤️
Exciting!! Just be careful as the grids are made from a soft plastic that can be chew really easy! I’d just have the enclosure in a space that is also hamster proofed if they escape 😄
Thank you! I love watching your videos, I can just watch them again and again. You are a huge help to me and so much people out there. My hamster used to run on his wheel every night to never running on it at all. I don’t know what caused it, but we had to move a lot and I feel like it could be due to stress because he’s not been the same the past couple weeks. I would still like to check it with a vet to make sure he’s healthy
Ive had the exact same problem, Ive stayed up all night to see when she does come out and she'd only come out for about an hour before going back to sleep. Did you find out what has been the problem? im worried i stressed my girl out too much with moving houses :(
@@kc7985 same mine does that too. I’ve been waiting and feeding him to see if the food I give him was eaten, which was. He’s ghosting a bit but he still comes out every once in a while. I always thought my ham was lazy, never ran on her wheel. Well one night I slept in the same room n she was running so fast I thought she was going to space! Some hams do run, just not when you're around lol
Despite the actual purpose of the video, I love the new setup it looks so cool and pretty and I'm glad to see another video from you. Keep up the good work, I love your channel!
In my countrie, any petshop sells an apropiete whee lsize, wheels are just to small :( so even if I wanted to use a biger wheel, its complicated to get one Hello from Perú 😊
hi! not sure if u already planned a video for next week, but maybe u could make a video on how to wake ur hamster up to go to the vet or other necessary times. idk about everyone else, but this would personally be rly helpful for me. i just don't want to scare him or make him uncomfortable or anything like that
Last night our ham we've had for about 4 months (who is really timid but doesn't bite, he squarks & grunts when we have to take him out for cleaning his cage. He'll let is stroke him inside his cage but he does not like coming out.) Well last night he was sat by his door didn't move he let me pick him up & cuddle him for a while then he wanted to go back to his home. He went to his burrow & stayed in the entrance tube he'd made & stayed there upside down for ages! It was like he had just got really vacant! He is otherwise extremely healthy busy & seems really happy. I'm just worried about him because he is a funny little soul & usually quite flighty but last night the opposite!! Thanks.
love your channel! i work at a pet store and i ALWAYS recommend your channel if they want to further more their research. obviously you can only tell someone so much until they don’t care…but i have had people come back to me saying they love your videos as well! saying they’re very resourceful and helpful in all ways!!!
I agree with the compacting of the bedding... when i first got my hamster Acorn i didn't compact the bedding, I gave him 8 inches... the next day it was 5 lol and his burrow had turned into a hole!
My ham rarely uses her 12.7 inch wheel. But she is the forage/burrow queen. This vid helped cause I was kinda concerned since she never uses her wheel!
My little hammy Waffles has a perfectly good wheel, the right size (nice and big). As he has gotten older though, he is a little older than 2, and he has stopped using his wheel, instead, he now starts to prefer storing his seeds in his dust bath provided to him in his cage! I always see him shuffling around looking for things to chew and anywhere to burrow or to find a new hiding spot. lol 😂 he's just an old man
I recently completely cleaned out my robo, biscuit’s, cage. I heard that it’s really stressful for hamsters if you do this, so i took some of his old, unsoiled bedding, and sprinkled it throughout his enclosure. It’s been a few days now, and he still hasn’t attempted to burrow. I put some tubes underneath his bedding to encourage him to burrow, but still nothing. I’m now starting to worry about his well being. I don’t know if it’s because he’s getting a bit old, or if he’s sick. If anyone has any idea what could be wrong, please let me know!!
Hey Victoria I loved this video a lot, and I have a question for you, so I have been wanting to try and make your DIY cage but every time I check Home Depot they never have Aspen plywood and I was wondering if you could make a video on all the safe woods for hamsters or at least let me know if you know any other woods I could use instead sense I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks victoria❤ love your vids,
I've always had large wheels for my hamsters. But I've never seen a species of animal with such variation in behavior Especially my winter white Cambells hybrids. Some wont use a wheel. Some a lot.
Another great video! I just wanted to ask if you've got the link to the study on hamsters only burrowing with 10+ inches of bedding? I'm sure you shared it before but I can't for the life of me seem to find it now 😅
I have a robo hammy (buttons) she's a ghost hamster and she doesnt use her wheel. She has a 10" wheel and has no care for it, lol! I'm not too worried about it because her cage is a 40 gallon and se has over 8 inches of bedding. I just don't know if i could take it out or not. Again she has plenty of boredom breakers and has shown no signs of boredom sooo yea
Wow there's always something that you don't know about hamsters or with anything else but It's good to know these things and thanks Victoria Rachel for teaching Us all this stuff we really appreciate it 😊😀😃
thank you so much! i dont have a hamster but want one so bad so ive been watching your videos and if i did not then i would not know anything about hamsters!!! have an amazing day!
Does anyone know if you can use plywood to make DIY hides/ houses for hamsters? I have non-toxic glue I can use but I’m not sure which wood is safe. I’m getting mixed results on Google..
i recently had my robo pass away, and i want to reuse her willow tunnel. i’m not sure how to clean it since it can’t go into the oven. i wiped it down and sprayed it with the water vinegar mix disinfectant. would that be enough to clean it or should i do more?
Hi Victoria, I have a question about my teddy bear hamster, It has been having trouble drinking out of its water bottle and keeps on jumping on top of It (its been doing this since i had her) I want to give my hamster a water bowl but its been using a water bottle its whole life and um not sure if she would know how to use It.
I'll answer it even though I'm not Victoria. So, my syrian hamster, the first time I got her, I got her a hamster water bottle and she couldn't drink out of it and it was such trouble so, I just gave her a water bowl. A glass one would be very good because when your hamster is hot it can go rest next to it and it can keep the water cold, you can also use plastic but, it can be chewed up and then, injure your hamster. If your hamster doesn't drink from the water bowl and struggles with the water bottle then, try to use a syringe and make him/her drink out of the syringe with your help. However, if none of those work, I would recommend that you go to your local vet immediately as you don't want your hamster to be dehydrated. Hope this helps you, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!! 🤗💗
Great video! ❤I completely agree when it comes to wheels! The bigger the better! I usually use a 13in wheel for my dwarf Nosey, though I did downsize it recently to an 11in wheel after downsizing his cage due to his old age.
Personally I prefer trixie wheels with the front cover incase my hamster runs too fast and is less likely to fling out. If ur looking for a new wheel look at this one
Witch bedding do you prefer? I use kaytee clean and cozy now but that bedding is very dusty… Love paper bedding tho but just want something with less dust!
So I really wanted to make an ikea de told hamster cage with 800 square inches of floor space. But the price between what it was when you made a video of it and what the price is for now to make it is way different. Do you have any other ways of making a not too expensive, but big hamster enclosure that’s not a bin cage? Thanks for the vid, thanks!
Can you please do a video about cancer in hamsters?? Apparently is very common but very few vets are trained to do a safe procedure 😢 currently struggling because the only exotic pet says surgery is too dangerous and we can’t do anything but wait until my hamster passes 😞😞
I have an almost 3 year old Syrian hamster. He has quite long hair. I’ve noticed he isn’t as up on his grooming as he once was so his bedding is starting to get matted into his fur most often. I’ve been giving him trims and obviously cutting out any Mats (carefully of course) I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for helping avoid this?
Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong video, but I always remember you being the hamster girl with cool videos that my daughter would watch when she first got her dwarf hamster. My question is, since the hamster stays w me most the time while she lives with her mother is that I'm always constantly thinking and trying to make her lil guy happy. So I was thinking, can I have 2 or 3 different sized wheels in his cage at once? It's a pretty good sized cage so housing several at once wouldn't be a problem. But will her hamster enjoy the set-up? Or would several be too overwhelming for him and possibly make him not wanna run on any?
I'd like to add that if your hamster doesn't use its wheel it might be because they're wheel shy and will only run in the dark when they're alone. That's what my hamster does, she's very self conscious if she's watched.
Hey I have a quick question guys is a 150 gallon a good size for an hamster or should I go bigger,I have found a cheap 150 gallon near me but I would like to know if I need to get something bigger than that?
are you sure it's 150 gallons??? that's a LOT. But, yes, that is good:) you'll need to measure it to find out the square inches though. Say, if it was 30x15 inches, then you would multiply 30 by 15 and your square inches would be 450😁 That's just an example though and a 150 gallon tank would be a lot more👍
Hi there. This is totally unrelated to hamsters, but I have a quick question about rabbits. I have a basil plant, and I'm shredding the leafs to make it into herbs. Can my rabbit eat the fresh herbs I am shredding?
How much should I be handling my Syrian. I pick her up before I go bed as she just woke up and then when I wake up she is still awake so I hold her then but then she sleeps. Is that enough? She enjoys being held.
Quick question, I'm pretty sure that this is okay, but my hamster can't use a water bowl, we've tried (with a bowl half her size) we used it when her water bottle broke, but she forced herself into the water, (when we saw that we know hamsters can't get in water so we took the bowl out) but is that just what she does, or is there a reason like, her being unhealthy?
I love your videos because I learn a lot more and when I have the hamster I want to have it, I will know what to give it and your videos really help me a lot. Greetings from Chile 🥰🥰
Victoria, my syrian male, Rollo seems to be always spooked. He never wants to take treats from my hands and he gets scared so easily. Just a small movement…and he dashes away SO fast. Can I have some advice?
Hi I’m not Victoria but Syrians have only been domesticated for 60 something years so they may not trust humans like a dog or cat would also you could have gotten them from a pet store where they came from a rodent mill which could make them not trust a human.
Hi. I just bought a syrian hamster 2 weeks ago and he is gorgeous. He loves being stroked and has learnt to go through a big cardboard tunnel when he wants to play in the sand. We have the Savic cage but I noticed at 2am he was biting the cage and climbing so I opened the cage and he went in the tube for his sand bath but when I put him back he still was at the door wanting to come out so I let him out 5 times to play in the sand. He has many toys and I scatter food so he can find it but wanted to know if he seems happy. He was climbing the cage that concerned me but once he came out and has his sand bath and strokes he was ok.
i hope you can notice me one day Victoria :) i love your videos and im so thankful i could give my past hamster the best life i could possibly give him. thank you for everything
I’m looking to get a hamster for the first time I’ve done lots of research and watch so many of your videos ( I still don’t know how to set up a cage that I’m going to like. Where could I find good hamster cage setup ideas )
Hey! I have a quick question and am hoping SOMEONE can finally help me out. My hamster has a very large cage and plenty of enrichment but… he is always bar climbing and chewing! I don’t know what to do and I read somewhere that he may just find it fun. I’ve given him lots of enrichment and chews so I’m really not sure what else I can do. Any advice??
I love how petstores, the ones meant to be making the cages, make bad ones, but meanwhile Ikea just chilling here making 5 star diy cages-- 💀💀💀

Well last night he was sat by his door didn't move he let me pick him up & cuddle him for a while then he wanted to go back to his home. Thanks.
For anyone wondering, the camera she uses for her hamsters is only $37 dollars😀 (at least where I live)
My hamster has a bottle and a bowl just so that he can choose and he uses both of them ❤❤
love your channel! i work at a pet store and i ALWAYS recommend your channel if they want to further more their research. obviously you can only tell someone so much until they don’t care…but i have had people come back to me saying they love your videos as well! saying they’re very resourceful and helpful in all ways!!!
I agree with the compacting of the bedding... when i first got my hamster Acorn i didn't compact the bedding, I gave him 8 inches... the next day it was 5 lol and his burrow had turned into a hole!
Your the best person! x :)
How’s Mable I hope she’s doing ok!
Thanks to you my hammy isn’t in a rubbish cage and is in the ikea diy cage!
My ham rarely uses her 12.7 inch wheel. But she is the forage/burrow queen. This vid helped cause I was kinda concerned since she never uses her wheel!
Hi! I love your vids! Can u do a video on fish tanks and the sizes ,pro’s and con’s about it to? ❤❤❤❤❤
Also, at winter time, my hamster almost didn’t come out at all. I saw him like once per week. So pay attention to what season it is
I love this channel! Thank you for sharing all of this info!
My little hammy Waffles has a perfectly good wheel, the right size (nice and big). As he has gotten older though, he is a little older than 2, and he has stopped using his wheel, instead, he now starts to prefer storing his seeds in his dust bath provided to him in his cage! I always see him shuffling around looking for things to chew and anywhere to burrow or to find a new hiding spot. lol 😂 he's just an old man
I'm guessing you meant sand bath and not dust bath?
@@rebeccaclock3858 Yes, it is a sand bath. Many people refer to it as a dust bath though
After 1 million years she FINNALY uploaded. YES!
Hi victoria! Super excited to watch this video :) You’re a great pet owner!!
Awesome answers~👍
Thank you for sharing this video~🤗
Love you Victoria Rachel my hamster Angel is living her best life all thanks to you. Can't thank you enough. God, I hope you see this xxxxx
The clip with the hamsters running on the mesh wheel gave me so much anxiety 😭😭😭
My dwarf hamster Dani drinks durning the day I sometimes catch her drinking and get to see her 😅
Your videos are so helpful!❤
Hey Victoria I loved this video a lot, and I have a question for you, so I have been wanting to try and make your DIY cage but every time I check Home Depot they never have Aspen plywood and I was wondering if you could make a video on all the safe woods for hamsters or at least let me know if you know any other woods I could use instead sense I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks victoria❤ love your vids,
5:17 and in the wild, hamsters can't find a water bottle so a water dish is better.
I love your videos.I’ve learned everything about hamsters and watched your videos. That’s why in getting a hamster this year.
my syrian hamster only bit me once before he got out of bed to see me every time he heard me or my mums voice, he would happily sit and eat in my hand
Wake up Victoria posted!
When i see you have uploaded a new video I get so excited! Thanks for your videos ❤
I've always had large wheels for my hamsters. But I've never seen a species of animal with such variation in behavior Especially my winter white Cambells hybrids. Some wont use a wheel. Some a lot.
I love the new setup!
3:26 My hamster bit me yesterday because he thought I was food, not to defend himself.
Yay Victoria is back at it!! Even tho I don’t have a hamster anymore, I still LOVE and enjoy ur vids!!
my female syrian barely fits to 33cm wheel.. :'D they are so important to be big as possible!!
A very charming talk, thank you Raechel 😀
Hello! Victoria, what bedding would you recommend that is dust free as possible but good for burrowing?
Another great video! I just wanted to ask if you've got the link to the study on hamsters only burrowing with 10+ inches of bedding? I'm sure you shared it before but I can't for the life of me seem to find it now 😅
Hii victoria! I have a question, can you put rolled oats to hamster everyday meal?
I have a robo hammy (buttons) she's a ghost hamster and she doesnt use her wheel. She has a 10" wheel and has no care for it, lol! I'm not too worried about it because her cage is a 40 gallon and se has over 8 inches of bedding. I just don't know if i could take it out or not. Again she has plenty of boredom breakers and has shown no signs of boredom sooo yea
HEY VIC! I’m so in love with your videos… like you put so much effort in it ♥️♥️ You are also rlly pretty girl ♥️ lyyyyy
Thank you for this info
Does anyone know if you can use plywood to make DIY hides/ houses for hamsters? I have non-toxic glue I can use but I’m not sure which wood is safe. I’m getting mixed results on Google..
Love your videos Victoria!❤
i recently had my robo pass away, and i want to reuse her willow tunnel. i’m not sure how to clean it since it can’t go into the oven. i wiped it down and sprayed it with the water vinegar mix disinfectant. would that be enough to clean it or should i do more?
@@Islam-for_life Thank you so much the for the advice!! 😊
@@AveRice_.3. No problem at all, always here to help! 🤗💗
thank you so much i really appreciate this video. i’m going to upgrade my hamsters cage so she can have more than 10 inches of bedding 😊
Great video! ❤I completely agree when it comes to wheels! The bigger the better! I usually use a 13in wheel for my dwarf Nosey, though I did downsize it recently to an 11in wheel after downsizing his cage due to his old age.
Happy birthday to Mable ❤🎉
Personally I prefer trixie wheels with the front cover incase my hamster runs too fast and is less likely to fling out. If ur looking for a new wheel look at this one
Witch bedding do you prefer? I use kaytee clean and cozy now but that bedding is very dusty… Love paper bedding tho but just want something with less dust!
fly to a different country and get their clean and cozy they are less dusty
So I really wanted to make an ikea de told hamster cage with 800 square inches of floor space. But the price between what it was when you made a video of it and what the price is for now to make it is way different. Do you have any other ways of making a not too expensive, but big hamster enclosure that’s not a bin cage? Thanks for the vid, thanks!
Lol, I said thanks in one sentence twice. 😅
Why did I watch this while bathtub bonding with my hamster- she climbed on my phone and tried to make it full screen 🤣
Seriously, bathtub bonding don't you know that hamsters can't be any where near water ( except drinking water )
@@crazydadtries it's a dry bathtub with a blanket in it. Search it up its safe
@@crazydadtries Bathtub bonding is where you sit in the tub with NO water just toys or treats for you to bond with your hamster!
Miso secretly watches Victoria Raechel 😂

Hi Victoria! I have a question, will it be safe to put a pine cone in my hamsters enclosure?
Can you please do a video about cancer in hamsters?? Apparently is very common but very few vets are trained to do a safe procedure 😢 currently struggling because the only exotic pet says surgery is too dangerous and we can’t do anything but wait until my hamster passes 😞😞
0:26 (first clip) got me so angry. Like that hamster is just being thrown around!!
Hey! Victoria if you see this comment, where do you get your hamster’s water dishes?
She gets them from niteangle and Amazon, the Amazon ones are candle holders! Hope this helps.
Or would several be too overwhelming for him and possibly make him not wanna run on any?
wow thank you! this helps a lot!
We need more vlogs!
hi Victoria, which water proof wood sealent do you recomend for my hamster cage ?
I don’t know if you are going to see this but my hamster died last night and your channel always helps me!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'd like to add that if your hamster doesn't use its wheel it might be because they're wheel shy and will only run in the dark when they're alone.
Say, if it was 30x15 inches, then you would multiply 30 by 15 and your square inches would be 450😁 That's just an example though and a 150 gallon tank would be a lot more👍
Yes it’s a 150 and thank you for answering my question!
Hi there. This is totally unrelated to hamsters, but I have a quick question about rabbits. I have a basil plant, and I'm shredding the leafs to make it into herbs. Can my rabbit eat the fresh herbs I am shredding?
Yes! 😄
How much should I be handling my Syrian. I pick her up before I go bed as she just woke up and then when I wake up she is still awake so I hold her then but then she sleeps. Is that enough? She enjoys being held.
How ever much he wants to play, and whenever you want to, should be fine :)
0:33 I am dying 😂😂😂
Why do we not use soil as a substrate for hamster enclosures? Wouldn't that be more like what they live in out in the wild?
How many sq inches is the cage? One thing you could do is give more enrichment such as sprays if u haven't alreadg
i hope you can notice me one day Victoria :) i love your videos and im so thankful i could give my past hamster the best life i could possibly give him. thank you for everything
I’m looking to get a hamster for the first time I’ve done lots of research and watch so many of your videos
( I still don’t know how to set up a cage that I’m going to like. Where could I find good hamster cage setup ideas )
My syrian hamster Lenni drinks alot he loves water💧 😂❤ you see him sitting with his water bowl all the time 😂❤
Are you sure he doesn’t have something wrong like diabetes perhaps? It’s probably fine but I just wanna make sure he isn’t sick lol 😅
