      "Highly knowledgeable"
      Yea, well the only skills that are actually required to produce these videos are research and artistic talent. All of this information was researched online which means that almost none of it was actually trialed or theorized/hypothesized by the video creators. It still takes skill (no worries, I am not trying to say ASAPScience is worthless) to produce these videos in a quick, informative and entertaining manner. It is just that this channel isn't "knowledgeable" in the way you're thinking of.

    I always heard that freezing to death is a pleasant way to die because you actually feel warmer and drowsier as death sets in. You kind of hinted at this when you mentioned about delirium setting in which causes people to remove their clothes before freezing to death.

    I have suffered hypothermia to the point of undressing, but I miraculously survived, and can actually recall the thoughts and feelings that drove me to this behavior, as well. For anyone who might want to know, unfortunately, there are few words that will actually suffice, in allowing me to describe just how torturous this state truly is. I don't think it is often acknowledged, just how absolutely miserable hypothermia really is; especially, once you reach these end stages. The best way I can describe this feeling, is comparing it to the freezing and sweating, or, "cold sweats" you would experience, while having a fever, only, with hypothermia, it is indescribably worse, and nearly unbearable. I can remember being so cold that even the slightest touch of my skin, resulted in a sharp pain, in that area. My fingers and toes were the only places on my body that I would not experience this, as it seemed that they had almost become entirely numb, at this point, and their level of functionality had significantly decreased. Despite being readily aware of this painful, overwhelming cold, though, I can remember I began to sweat profusely at this point. I was so cold and miserable, but then I began experiencing intermittent bouts of feeling flushed on the surface of my skin, which would be accompanied with profuse sweating, like I've never experienced before. This sweating was literally wetting my clothing and causing the hypothermia to only intensify, since having wet skin and clothing was causing a rapid drop, in my already-low body temperature. I just remember feeling so cold, but then because of these weird hot flashes and bouts of profuse sweating, I had to take off my clothes, not due to delirium, but rather, due to the fact that the wet clothes were making my hypothermia immeasurably worse. It was one of the most horrible, and torturous feelings I've ever endured though. My body's functions seemed so irrational, and nonsensical, like it could no longer tell if I were freezing to death, or overheating...kind of like when you touch water thats so hot, it almost feels cold for a split second. It was like my body was trying to overcompensate for the heat, and the cold, all at once, and it was honestly the most awful, uncomfortable, confusing and torturous thing that I've ever experienced. The last thing I am able to remember, was, ultimately, feeling like every muscle, and all of my internal organs were deeply aching from the cold, with nothing I could do to ease it, as my body began to shut down, yet at the same time, the waves of heat, just below the surface of my skin, and bouts of profuse sweating that corresponded, had intensified, unbearably, so I was just stuck in an agonizing, contradictory state of what felt like, both, sweating and freezing, and overheating to death, while at the same time, slowly freezing to death. It was like my mind was rational, but my body and its functions were beyond confused, and making no sense. It is the fact of bodily torture, combined with having a still-rational mind, that really made things so terrible. I wish I had become dilirious, but that wasnt the case at all! I remember thinking, "please just let me die already, and end this torture", shortly before FINALLY blacking out. I'm not sure why I'm able to even recall as much as I can, but based on this experience, I truly don't think most people, or even experts, understand just how unbearable and torturous these stages of hypothermia actually are. I am a really tough person...I have a super high pain tolerance, and I am pretty fearless, but even the memory of how bad this was, alone, causes me to cringe and curl up into the fetal position. I really don't even have words for how bad it was....it was truly just literal, sheer torture.

    As a Swede who has been exposed to cold temperatures I can confirm the part about feeling hot when it's cold. You feel colder and colder until on point when you realize that the only thing you are feeling is pain, and it's the same pain you feel when something burns.

    • @Lightning_Lance
      @Lightning_Lance 2 года назад +7

      The body sends a signal to the brain based on temperature changes. But it can't tell which way the change goes. You figure it out based on context clues ("I just touched a hot stove, so I probably burned myself and that's why it hurt just now"). But humans hardly ever suffer frostbite, while we suffer small burns all the time. So extreme temperatures probably feel like heat, because we are not used to experiencing extreme cold.
