  • I've been looking for a project that I could make to use up lots of my little scrap pieces of fabric from previous projects.
    So I Googled what to sew, and came upon a website called "All free sewing" where I found this cute little pattern.
    My fabric labels and the style I use are from
    wunderlabel.com.au/?affil=chr...
    now that I have an affilliation with them, I may get a small commission on sales.
    My metal tags are from lihuihardware.en.alibaba.com/...
    swivel clips are purchased from Ebay, and are about 1/2" at swivel

    Happy Sewing!!
    Just a quick note before you start.... I've used a 5 thread overlocker when sewing the 2nd bag which has an extra stitch along the inside of serged edges. If sewing with a serger/overlocker, you'll need to sew around the whole bag before clipping the corners, otherwise you'll have a hole in the corners.
    All you need is:
    2 x 6" x 4" main fabric
    2 x 4" x 4" contrast fabric
    1 x 6" x 4" back fabric
    1 x 2" ribbon loop 1 x swivel clip

    Great idea have so much left over bits of fabric. In the UK we call them over locker if it used at home mine is a 3 thread. I used to work in a clothes factory and they called them sergers because they had 4-5 threads. With 3 they neaten the edge with 4-5 they sew the seam and neaten the edge. That's what I was taught

      Thank you. I didn't know that was the difference between the machines.
      On a side note, i forgot to mention in video that you'll still need to stitch around the pouch, otherwise there will be a hole in corners when you clip them 🤪

    In the states the difference in serger and overlocker is a serger puts the seam on the edge of fabric, and an overlocker can put a seam anywhere on fabric.

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs
      @ChristinesHomeAffairs  6 месяцев назад +1

      You had me doubting myself there Sandi, so I double-checked with Mrs Google.
      Sergers and overlockers are the same thing. In the US, they're called sergers, and the rest of the world call them overlockers.
      An overlocker can't sew anywhere on the fabric. just on the seams. Otherwise, it would cut the edges, or simply knit/roll the thread on the side of stitching.
      Sewing machines and coverstitch machines can sew in the middle of fabric 🙂

    I came across your video while searching for pouch for cloth baby wipes and very happy I did! I immediately went to my 'happy place' (aka sewing room) and made a little tissue pouch for my granddaughter. It went so well it was my inspiration to make a larger one for the cloth wipes I had made for my DIL. I interfaced each piece then lined with PUL. I also added a flap with velcro fastener to cover the slit. During construction I had a couple small hiccups but the final result worked as I had envisioned. Thank you so much!

    Made a bunch of these with fabric leftover from your zip pouch pattern and they were easy -too easy! You cautioned about having raw edges towards the centre and I thought nah, that won’t happen to me. Well, pride goeth before a fall, as they say....stitch ripper went into overdrive to fix the last one 😜. Thank you for another great pattern, Christine 🙏🏻

    Hi Christine - I made one out of fabric scraps but made the mistake of not placing the lobster clip next to the back fabric and hence it was inside when I turned it all through. So I had to unpick that side and then placed it beneath the other fabric and it turned out perfectly. I then thought I’d try doing one using oil cloth offcuts to avoid having to zigzag the seams but, oh my goodness, it took me absolutely ages to turn it though and I couldn’t poke out the corners despite having clipped them across - it looked awful. I was determined not to give up and then had the idea of turning it inside out again and sewing round corners. This time when I turned it through the rounded corners were perfect with no folds or puckers. It actually looks better too 😊. Thank you so much for sharing this video - I really enjoy watching and learning from you x

    Back tracked to find this instruction! I like this method of folding the material. And putting in the hankies. I need to get some Thursday. Going to the big town! I hate ordering online. I wish I could find swivel hooks. My little hiking, fishing town the hardware store actually had small hooks with even the key ring attached but I bought them out and they dont even remember where they got them. Hikers like bigger carabiner clips. I may do a button and elastic loop close. I have 1000s of buttons hoardered.

    If your sewing machine has an "overcasting stitch" option (looks like zigzag with straight stitch on one side) you can use that and it is really helpful to use the overcast foot to do it with. I have the very common Brother cs6000i sewing machine and I use stitch #7 with the overcast foot (foot "G") that came with my machine. This is a way you can sew the seam and finish the raw edge at the same time similar to using a serger, only with your regular sewing machine! Hope this is helpful to someone!

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs

    Hi Christine. Thank you for yet another great tutorial, I've tried a few of your projects and love them. Can you tell me how to get a sharp corner on the tissue holder if you use an over locker instead of a sewing machine? I love using my over locker but the corners come out rounded. It looks like where you cut off the corners there would then be a hole!

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs
      @ChristinesHomeAffairs  2 года назад +1

      Yes!, You are right Crafty Owl. You've just made me realise that I've been using a 5 thread overlocker which does a chain stitch on the inside, so when I clip the corners, I've still got a stitch inside the area keeping it secure. So this means you'll still need to do a seperate stitch so it's secure around the corners. I'll see if I can fix this in the video, otherwise I'll do it again 😛 Thanks for pointing that out.

    Someone gave everyone in Bible study class one of these (except they were square). I ask her what it was for. She told me that it was to hold a baby tooth inside (under a pillow) so the Tooth Fairy can find and remove the tooth while leaving money. My children had grown up, married, and moved away a long time ago. My square pouch layed around in the house until I took it apart and used the fabric in a scrap quilt.

      Here in the U.K the minimum wage an hour is just under £10, which would be around 17 Australian dollars. Unfortunately for me we live in a poor area so my hourly rate would be no more than £11 currently, to keep sewn items affordable. But as mentioned in her video, electric, machine maintenance, shop fees etc come into the 40 dollars per hour, which I add on top separately. Very fair pricing. I guess it depends on were you live.
