All the tools mentioned in this video (and more!) can be found in my free Online Course Toolkit: witandwire.com/coursetoolkit-youtube And if you have any other course creation questions, let me know in the comments!
Thank you super helpful!!! I’m on your email list 😊 What software do you use to edit your RUclips videos? And is this video editing software different for your course creation videos?
Thank you for the awesome content and wealth of information. You selflessly offered gems. I'm into health and wellness but find it extremely challenging to market vegan and plant based information because it's oversaturated. Any suggestions on how to angle courses so that the information is different yet, valuable. I'm all about good information vs trendy ideas
Your advice is priceless!!! I've watched a few of your videos and have loved every single one! I started my course outline yesterday and I'm working on creating content this week. I can't wait to launch my first publicly accessible online course! This one's FREE, but the next ones won't be!
A MAJOR point to remember is that there are literally 1000s of FREE videos, seminars, classes, etc on every topic under the sun:, even how to build an Etsy shop and how to lose weight. Selling a course that only provides the same info is a losing proposition. Do research and make YOUR COURSE different, unique, with different or better outcomes. Practice presentation and learn graphic design. Believing that you can simply read a book or lose some weight and have all the answers is bogus. Especially when you are 21 years of age. You're better off finding work that will enhance your own life first. You don't really know anything without first learning many things.
Some instructors seem to present their curriculum in a webinar, mastermind or boot camp. This is often presented on a platform like Zoom for free. In the end of this presentation, it becomes the sales funnel for coaching, memberships or more detailed courses.
Great ideas! And I agree that releasing only a small portion of the course and utilizing student feedback and outcomes is better. Because this allows us to create more useful and meaningful content. Ultimately this is a more practical and profitable approach for our business. Thanks for sharing. I’m a new subscriber.
Thank you for this professional insight! Many videos on this topic are more emotionally based, and it's difficult to discern what to do next. Your commentary has definitly improved my decision-making on this. Thank you!
Thankyou for your easy to understand videos to help us learn the various facets of starting a course! Also- we are looking forward to taking your course to help us kickstart our teaching journey 💪
Hi Melissa, love your content. I have a course slides done and now need to film lessons. I saw your video on Tella and was going to use this but I did see you had it only at number 15 on your list of recording apps. Do you think Tella is ok? Also on cameras. As you are recording while sharing slides do you use the Mac camera, a webcam or a separate camera e.g. Sony ZV-E10 (I'm not sure how you would use this camera to shoot slide presentations? Thanks Richard
Thank you, Richard! For Tella, although I personally prefer other tools (for breadth of features and reliability), I know a lot of happy Tella customers in the Wit & Wire community. So if you’ve tested it and enjoy the product, then that’s what matters most. For cameras, you can see my current picks in this free guide: witandwire.com/videotoolkit
Great question. There isn’t a universal right answer, so it depends more on your personal goals and what success would look like for you. I usually say 4-5+, but it varies.
Offer: validate - pre sell develope the content - founders round. Price is based on the outcome of your course. Not length of the course. How much will my students life change because of this program? Transformation.
This is wonderful content! I have a question, when do you think we should trademark a course name? I have a great name that clients like, but I’m afraid for someone to steal my course name.
Great question. Since I’m not a lawyer, unfortunately I can’t offer advice on trademark timing, so I’d recommend getting in touch with a lawyer. One recommendation is Nicole at sproutlaw.com.
Hi Melissa, Was curious about conversion rates. My course was selling like hotcakes during Winter and Spring, and then kind of slumped this summer (despite having more daily RUclips and email subscribers than ever). Do you ever find that your conversion rate drops in the summer (or some particular season?)
Sell outcomes for one student - focus. Health, wealth and relationships. 15 min video, readings, assignment. Order. First week of the curriculum. First enrolment offer. Can it sell? VALIDATION. FOUNDERS ROUND. Get feedback from students. Personalized experiences.
Thank you so much for all this information. I really appreciate it. If I can ask one thing, can course created with teach:able be marketed on a shopify website? Thanks in advance.
You could market a course on a Shopify website, but there are also great course creation platforms that also have a checkout option like ThriveCart (witandwire.com/thrivecart). - Team Wit & Wire
Love this Melissa great tips! So I wrote a comment on another video of yours but I just wanted to touch on it some more. So Ive made 8k lyric videos and motion covers and now want to make a course teaching how to make them and also how people can start their own motion gfx business. Is tiktok a good fit for this? lyric videos are very popular on tiktok. Do you think lyric videos is a good course to do?
Thank you! I'm so glad to hear these videos have been helpful. I'm sure you may have seen the previous comment I just left, but here's the most important question: I'd first want to know if there's demand. Do people ask you for more info on how you edit your videos? Or if not, do you see profit indicators or demand in the marketplace for the concept? I'd look to see if there are any competitors. (These are questions I'd recommend researching and making notes about on your own.) Beyond that, after you validate demand, if you're looking for more strategies, it's something I get into extensively in my course creation program, which you can learn more about here: witandwire.com/courses This week only, I also have an intro course in this bundle where you can get 62 courses for $97, which is usually the price of my course alone (ends 9/27/22): ultimatebundles.com/tgbtk2022-sales-page/#a_aid=5f2d8ea4755e6&a_bid=fa049a0d (No pressure on any of those options, just wanted to share in case they're helpful!)
so in kajaba, make 3-5 videos and start ad calpain? and if people get the monthly subscription, record a zoom and ask those people about questions that they have, then make videos out of that? instead of making 20 videos and maybe people don't see ill of those videos? sorry thsats waht i under stood about No.5. ( the monthly subs is my idea that i want to do, i want to make it a community around that niche topic )
Great question! To be clear, we don’t typically recommend using ad campaigns until after your course has already made a few sales. To learn more about our strategies, you can also watch this followup free masterclass: witandwire.com/course-creation-masterclass
I used the Blue Yeti for years, but I currently use the Shure MV7 USB Podcast Microphone Here's a roundup of my current recommendations: witandwire.com/best-podcast-microphone-for-beginners/
Since I’m not an accountant, I can’t offer financial advice here. But I can say that it depends on your country (and often, your state), and whether or not you want to pay those taxes out of pocket or pass them along to the customer is a great question for both you and an accountant.
Thank you! That's a great question, and it depends on your current audience and what your topic is, so it's something I cover more in-depth in the full Course Creator Mastermind. (witandwire.com/course-creator-mastermind) Much as I wish I could, it's tough to give a one-size-fits-all answer since marketing is so personal. But usually, you'd start with the audiences you already have and expand from there.
No, we don’t currently offer single consulting calls or packs of consulting calls. The exception is for students in Course Builders or Automate & Scale, who have exclusive access to book 1:1 calls with Melissa. - Team Wit & Wire
I want to help newbies in baking bake and decorate their first cakes so that they can gain the confidence as they follow hhe step by step process of baking and cake decoration. Problem is how to create the videos using my android phone
Although I don’t specialize in videos on an Android device, I do offer other videos on the Wit & Wire RUclips channel about recording videos and equipment if you want to check them out here: ruclips.net/user/witandwire
I personally wouldn’t recommend using copyright music since you’d have to pay for those rights. If there’s a specific example where you need the music and you’re talking about it, it might be considered educational, but I’d recommend consulting with a lawyer first. But generally, my best advice is to avoid copyrighted music in online courses and digital marketing.
