I can't tell you how many times people can watch a video on course reaction only to be told that they need everything they do not have and cannot afford! Thank you much for this.
Great points about doing the slide-based video. But I have a harder time filling in the course script with images or short form videos because it feels like it gets redundant quickly covering the same topic and find it easier to mix talking head with slide show rather than one or the other. Gear I recommend after you're ready to upgrade: Rode mic for vocals, DSLR camera Sony 6300 or later(on ebay you can get one for $400-600 ish but it's worth it for 4K video instead of grainy-ish webcam look), Aputure Amaran 60D light with GVM Lantern Softbox Soft Light, Neewer softbox key lights is good too. But, great tips for balling on a budget here. Love your outro music.

Finally, a video that treats the watchers as people who are trying to learn how to do it! Thank you! 💯 My only issue is that I need to use a teleprompter (which I purchased) to read the course content the client provided, and I just don't know how to do that with my webcam. If you happen to have a quick answer or direction you could point me in, I'd appreciate it. Thank you again for this video because my goodness, the others make it overwhelming.
You’re welcome! I’m thrilled to hear that this video was helpful, so thank you for the kind note, too. And excellent question. The unsatisfying answer is that it likely depends on your webcam AND your teleprompter. For most webcams, they don’t really function with traditional teleprompters, but you might be able to use a computer-based tool to put it on your screen just below the webcam. (I like cueprompter.com/) Otherwise, traditional teleprompters work with traditional video cameras, where you mount it around the camera. I hope that helps, and thank you again for watching!
So informative and great delivery Melissa! Do you have any advice or content on how best to create a short form video screen share for those of us looking to see an idea/content for a future on-line course?
Thank you! Short form videos are typically for social media (under 5 minutes) while long form videos (5+ minutes) are usually for RUclips and online courses. So depending on which type of content you might want to create, you can still use any of the tools listed in this video, or you might just record directly on a smartphone for short-form (i.e. social media).

For a bsking course which also includes live demos would you recommend using loom for evdn including live demos as its free? How do you then export the course videos and presentstions to a course hosting platform?
Great question! Some course platforms allow you to host videos within the platform, while others do not. You can either upload the mp4 file or take the embedded code from Loom and use the embedded code to add a video to your course. Great video and love the tips. About to commence my first course! Thank you Melissa. What would you recommend for reading a script on a screen? Nigel
You’re welcome! Great question. It depends on which camera you’re using. For example, if you’re on a smartphone, there are inexpensive teleprompter apps. If you have a video camera, different tools and setups suit different people at different budgets. I’ll make a bookmark for a future potential Wit & Wire video, but for now, I’d recommend searching for teleprompter options on RUclips based on the camera you’re using. I hope that helps
Hey Melissa, how would you extract the transcription of your sound to text?
Depending on the tool you’re using, you can transcribe using the free version of Otter (witandwire.com/otter) or if you’re using Descript, they auto-transcribe your audio and video (witandwire.com/descript)
hi! do you recommend logitech webcam for a new 2020 mac laptop?
Great question! I haven't tested all Logitechs with all versions of Macs, but the Logitech I use has worked equally well with my old 2016 MacBook Air and my current 2021 MacBook Pro. So as far as I know, they work well with Macs of any age and model, so I hope that helps!
@@witandwire thank you for answering ♡

Not using Zoom after they updated their terms saying that they can access all your data including anything that's on your computer, in order to build their AI database
That’s fair. I know some people are switching to Google Meet, although I haven’t checked their terms to see if it’s different.
Excellent tips! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
