Great vid and beard. I've been wanting to make my own bread oil and balm. I've quite a few Honest Amish bottles saved up myself. I passed the 20 month mark on my beard journey February 1st. Always wanted to grow a big beard, but this one was totally unplanned. Had basel cell carcinoma removed from the right side of my chin on May 31, 2017. One week we without shaving lead to two, three to present day. Plan on having it shaped up a bit when I hit the two year mark, but I've no desire to shave it off or shorten it beyond what's necessary. I'm on Instagram under the same handle.

Hi AAA, Once I decided on the carriers I wanted based on their individual properties. It was a matter of trial and error. I used more jojoba because it closely resembles your skins natural oils, more sweet almond because I like the way it feels, less castor because it is very thick and I did not want a heavy/thick oil. Hi Tony, the % is completely up to you. I personally would go light on the Olive oil as it tends to be more greasy. Maybe 50% Jojoba, 30% Argan, and 20% Olive.
Hi Tony, click the down button in the description, my recipe is there. However, for the carrier oils you can use whatever works best for you. Although I would suggest going light on the vitamin e and castor as they are very thick and greasy.
That's a great question Mike. I took a plate, made some small puddles with 1 carrier oil and then added drops of essential oils to each, writing down the ratios. When I hit on one I like, I use that ratio in my final product. If I used 4 drops of cedar, 3 drops pine, and 3 of mint, I would take that ratio of 40%, 30%, and 30% and apply it to the 30 drops/oz(5% solution). So I would get 12 drops cedar, 9 drops pine, and 9 drops of mint. You'll still waste some oil but not an ounce at a time. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Hemp seed oil is in my opinion, just another carrier oil, it has many of the same benefits as other oils that are rich in omega fatty acids. Many people are concerned that hemp seed oil may contain THC, but actually the seeds and oil from the seeds do not. If you see Hemp oil, without the seeds, you may want to avoid it in your beard products. I do not look for oils because they have hemp seed oil as a carrier oil, but personally I would not exclude them either.
There are no legal % for US products, there are guidelines put out by the IFRA that most manufacturers follow. What the % is varies by type of fragrance. If your making beard oil for personal use, it's completely up to you. If for resale, you should request limits from the fragrance provider. Hope that helps.
@blazingbeardproducts2845 yes...thank you for replying...do you happen to know of any reliable online go to source that breaks down those percentages for each fragrance ? Or is it best to request each limit from the supplier as you suggested?
I don't think so from a beard health perspective. Although you may want to use a lighter, faster, absorbing blend at night to prevent your sheets from getting greasy. Thanks for watching.
I've been researching how to make beard oil...I've read olive oil is a better than argan oil any thoughts on this... Also great informitive video...Luv the intro🤘🤘🤘
Glad you enjoyed the video Steve. While olive oil does have some good properties, it is an extremely greasy oil, if you use it in your blend, use it sparingly. Argan oil, while thicker than many carriers, still absorbs well without being too greasy.
Love the video, I’m actually taking notes on what I need so I can make my own. Love some of the brands I buy but $15-20 a pop gets old really fast. Plus I love the creativity options when it comes to scents. I have a question though. Are all essential oils created equally? By that I mean can anything labeled “essential oil” be put in beard oil/on the skin? I ask because my local Walmart has a ton of different essential oils but they’re in the candle section for diffusers. I’d hate to put something in my beard and on my skin that isn’t suppose to be there.
Hi, I agree, after the initial expense, making your own will save you lots of money. All essential oils are not the same, you need to check the ingredients. If it only list one ingredient, the essential oil, it is probably Ok. Walmart usually has higher quality essential oils in the pharmacy area as well, by the supplements, I found that they are a couple bucks more expensive than the ones in the candle area. I bought most of mine online at camdengrey.com.
What’s a good source to buy oils from cause some are not skin safe meant for an air purifier. Why I’m asking this question no links for the oil or carrier oils?
For carrier oils, your best bet is Amazon, look for cold pressed 100% oil. For essential oils, I like camdengrey.com. although there are literally 100s of good options for high quality essential oils. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Where did you source your Argan? I'm finding that many brands are fake and avoiding that is essential. I now have All of my carriers. Interesting how similar our choices are to each other. I'm using Black castor, Sunflower, Rice Bran, Coconut, Avocado and Jojoba. I have Argan, Sweet Almond, Grapeseed and Kukui nut for the butter blends. Wish I had a beard dude who lived nearby that was enthusiastic or interested in doing this with me.
The brand is Shea Moisture. Only ingredient is pure Argan oil. I think I picked it up at Walgreens. Shea Moisture is a reputable well known company so I'm confident it is not fake. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
@@blazingbeardproducts2845 Yeah, it does. But the stuff from the Berber Women in morrocco is really the only product that is truly virgin and authentic. Just really really expensive. Thanks for the open dialogue!

Couldn’t you just use cinnamon bark for example and have that as the smell? Then make a lemon scent as a different one? Or would it not smell good alone?
Of course, you can make any scent you'd like. Just make sure your total ratio of essential oils to carrier oils does not exceed 5% or about 30 drops of essential oil for a 1 oz. Bottle.
Hi Gregory, here it is: :8 ml - sweet almond oil 8 ml - golden jojoba oil 5 ml - avocado oil 5 ml - argan oil 3 ml - Jamaican black castor seed oil 18-30 drops of essential oils depending on strength and fragrance preferences.
If i chose to use fragrance oils instead essential is there a guide how much u can use without getting into any trouble ? With legal issues i know u can only have a ceartin amount of fragrance
As long as it's for your own personal use, you can scent as you please. Each fragrance oil is different, and you'd need to get that information from the manufacturer.
@@MrIftown usually yes for fragrance oils, essential oils not, although there are sites you can look them up on, search ifra essential oil recommended concentrations.
Do you still use your own beard oil? I went to get beeswax and coconut oil and essential oils (sandalwood and vanilla) to make my own mustache wax. While I was there I decided why not make my own beard oil to just try it haha I mean I need a matching beard oil for my mustache wax lmao So I picked up some things for a beard oil as well (just not everything I want like argon oil) or bottles, yet. Hi again. Valhalla Legends makes a wonderful oil called “Cubans and Coniac”. The tobacco essence is excellent, any other brand, that I’ve tried, with a tobacco essence is just too faint. Do you have a recommendation of where I could buy an essential oil if that quality. And, makes the best oils in your opinion?
Hi Gregory, I agree, Valhalla Legends Cognac & Cubans is an amazing scent. I personally have not made my own tobacco scents so I don't have a recommendation where to buy. If you find a good one, let me know.

Hi Swanand, Beard Oil is primarily for the skin under your beard. It keeps your skin from drying out thereby preventing flaking/dandruff. It also helps to soften the beard hair so it will be less itchy. It does not make your beard grow in fuller or faster, other than making your skin healthier which provides a more conductive environment for healthy beard growth. I hope that helps, thanks for watching.
Hi, thanks for watching. Once I decided which carrier oils I wanted based on properties, , the ratios were chosen based on trial and error. I put in less of the thicker oils like castor and argan because I did not want a heavy oil. I put in more jojoba, sweet almond, and alvocado because jojoba is closest to your body's natural oil and sweet almond and alvocado simply because I like their feel in beard (non greasy, absorbs well). I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Hey brother I’m trying to mix some that smell like a fireball candy or big red chewing gum smell. I ordered cinnamon essential, what else do I need to make that smell? I have Viking Revolution Bay Rum and it smells like fireball or big red chewing gum. Trying to copy that smell.
Hey brother, I'm not sure what else to add, Big Red gum is pretty much straight cinnamon. Maybe add sum Bay Rum or musk if you want to cologne it up a bit.
Hey there Brother! Love your videos. I’ve used your measurements in my own beard oil and I’ve made 5 different ones with diff ingredients and measurements as well and all of them left my beard feeling sorta stiff or having a good hold as if I sprayed hairspray in it but it’s super soft when I rub the back of my hand. Is that normal? Thx
Hi Edward, beard oil should not make your beard feel like it's stiff. Not sure why yours would be like that. A balm might have that effect, but not an oil. I would suggest buying an oil from a quality company and see if it feels the same to you. Honest Amish Oil you can buy at Walmart for under $10. If that feels the same, then you'll know your oil is OK. If it feels different (better) then it might be the quality of your oils. Thanks for watching, I hope this helps.
Hi, any advice of a good recipe for someone allergic to nuts? This is why i'm looking into making my own beard oil, as everything has some kinda nut based oil in.
Hi gothicwigga, here is a link that you may find useful. Of course, seeing as you have allergies to nuts, you should probably check with your doctor. jennscents.com/health-and-wellness/nut-nut-free-aromatherapy-carrier-oils/
Hi Tony, yes, 30 drops of essential oils is the max I would recommend. Fragrance oils may be less as they are typically stronger. If you're making it for yourself, the amount you add is up to you. If you plan to sell, you need to research the rules for where you live.
@@blazingbeardproducts2845 I am from London.. yes sure.. I shall do some research and btw .. I am going to try exact recipe you did this weekend .. will update you .. cheers
I watched your video and gave it a try but after mixing my carrier oils together it developed a thick film like build up but it's just a layer on the top not the entire oil
That's very odd Justin, sounds like one of your oils may have gone bad or the bottle may not have been clean. Did you use the same oils as in the video? I make this about once a month an have never had any issues like what you describe.
From what I've read on line. I wouldn't recommend anyone use Mainstays essential oils from Walmart. But do your own research before you take my word for it. Great video on making beard oil.
Hi William, Walmart has several different brands of essential oils. If you look in the pharmacy area they carry the higher quality essential oils too. NOW, Aromatherapy, Natures Truth. I do have a couple of Mainstay and I've had no issues. Walmart does carry some really cheap fragrance oils that I would stay away from.
Blazing Beards I will have to look over there. I got the tea tree one from mainstays and got it home and it just don't smell right. So I got on line and found out that in defusing it's fine but they don't recommend using in lotions and oils. Thanks for telling me about the pharmacy area👍🏻
Most beards won't be discolored by a carrier oil. If your beard is bleached (like a Santa) the outer layer of the hair shaft is compromised and will get discolored. Normal healthy hair won't be discolored.
@@blazingbeardproducts2845 Thanks for the info! I'm thinking of making small batches of beard oil to sell, if you're interested in trying them out let me know!
Where can I find that measuring thing at Target? I browsed through my local Target recently and was unable to find it. Do you remember which area of the store it was in? Thanks!
Look in the pharmacy section. The oils there are good for use on skin, the oils in the candle section are different. All essential oils should be diluted in a carrier oil before putting on skin.
I have a question. If I'm making a beard balm, does it really matter which carrier oils I use? There's literally 5-6 different types of each one like jojoba oil for example. From what I've researched it good as long as the the carrier oils are cold pressed and organic. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, Shane, in making beard balm, you can use however many carrier oils you'd like or even just one. I believe I mention that in my video on how to make beard balm. My recipe is 2 tbls butter, 1 tbls beeswax, 1 tbls (15 ml) carrier oil, plus up to 60 drops of essential oils for scent. Makes 2 oz. of beard balm. Hope this helps.
@@juantejeda7450 Hi Juan, I bought Avery labels from Walmart, they have an online template you can download (link on label package) then I made my image in photoshop, loaded into the template and printed, super easy.
Thanks. Not all. I get the jojoba from Kroger, the Jamaican Black Castor an Argan from Walgreens, the Sweet Almond and Avocado I got from Walmart. It would probably be faster and easier to buy them off Amazon. Just make sure they are 100% pure and cold pressed, except the Jamaican Black Castor which is actually roasted and boiled to get the oil. I got my essential oils online from a company called Camden Grey.
Hi Erwin, No, essential oils are too strong to make them equal to the amount of carrier oil. Too much essential oil can irritate your skin. The essential oil should be at most 5 % of your total mixture. There are 600 drops to an ounce, so 5% would be 30 drops of essential oil per ounce. So if you are making a 2 oz. beard balm, 60 drops of essential oils in any combination would be the most you should add. I hope that helps.
Ok got it! This really helps since this is my first time making my own beard oil. I really appreciate you responded to this because most of them don't. keep up those great vids!!
Yes you can use those 3 oils, they are all good for your hair and skin, I would go light on the olive oil as it tends to be a little greasy. Castor oil is very thick, so it is personal preference how much you use. Coconut oil is very good but you'll need the fractionated or liquid form. Pure coconut hardens at room temperature and has a strong smell.

What do you think of hemp seed oil?
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Hemp seed oil is in my opinion, just another carrier oil, it has many of the same benefits as other oils that are rich in omega fatty acids. Many people are concerned that hemp seed oil may contain THC, but actually the seeds and oil from the seeds do not. If you see Hemp oil, without the seeds, you may want to avoid it in your beard products. I do not look for oils because they have hemp seed oil as a carrier oil, but personally I would not exclude them either.
Very cool thanks for the help.
Whats the legal percentage of essential/fragrance oils allowed in beard oils?
There are no legal % for US products, there are guidelines put out by the IFRA that most manufacturers follow. What the % is varies by type of fragrance. If your making beard oil for personal use, it's completely up to you. If for resale, you should request limits from the fragrance provider. Hope that helps.
@blazingbeardproducts2845 yes...thank you for replying...do you happen to know of any reliable online go to source that breaks down those percentages for each fragrance ? Or is it best to request each limit from the supplier as you suggested?
It's easiest to get the % from the supplier, but you can Google IFRA fragrance limits.
@blazingbeardproducts2845 thanks so much!
Would it makes sense to use some oils in different ratios for day and night time beard oils ?
@@blazingbeardproducts2845 Thank You for the reply...👍
Blazing Beards thanks so much!
One drop of a good essential oil is about 10x as strong as a cheap one. Youngliving and doTERRA are great. It's night and day in quality

Bottle.

Do you still use your own beard oil?
I went to get beeswax and coconut oil and essential oils (sandalwood and vanilla) to make my own mustache wax.
While I was there I decided why not make my own beard oil to just try it haha
I mean I need a matching beard oil for my mustache wax lmao
So I picked up some things for a beard oil as well (just not everything I want like argon oil) or bottles, yet.
But after I experiment with my mustache wax, I’ll experiment with my beard oil with the stuff I do have.
The only problem is, is I’m horrible at math lol
Hi Blazing Beards, will do. I found one on Amazon called Cuban Tobacco. I’ll let you know how it is.

Which oil will help give the most sheen?
Thicker oils like castor and argan give more sheen as they are slower to absorb. Thanks for watching.
What does beard oil exactly helps with does it help to grow your beard?
Hi Swanand, Beard Oil is primarily for the skin under your beard. It keeps your skin from drying out thereby preventing flaking/dandruff. It also helps to soften the beard hair so it will be less itchy. It does not make your beard grow in fuller or faster, other than making your skin healthier which provides a more conductive environment for healthy beard growth. I hope that helps, thanks for watching.
What did you use to determine how much carrier oils to mix for your recipe? Thanks!
Of course, seeing as you have allergies to nuts, you should probably check with your doctor.
jennscents.com/health-and-wellness/nut-nut-free-aromatherapy-carrier-oils/
sorry , so is it 30 drops of essential/fragrance oils maximum you recommend for 30 ml bottle right ?
Hi Tony, yes, 30 drops of essential oils is the max I would recommend. Fragrance oils may be less as they are typically stronger. If you're making it for yourself, the amount you add is up to you. If you plan to sell, you need to research the rules for where you live.
@@blazingbeardproducts2845 I am from London.. yes sure.. I shall do some research and btw .. I am going to try exact recipe you did this weekend .. will update you .. cheers

Sir;
How do I get beard oil from you?
Your recipe looks superior to anything I can find locally.
Hi Josh, thanks for subscribing. I don't sell beard oil, but my recipe is there for you. It's very easy to make.
Thank you.
Thanks for telling me about the pharmacy area👍🏻
does golden beard oil stain your beard? most carrier oils I've found are golden in color which seems less friendly towards gray or white beards.

Thanks!
I found it in the pharmacy area, I think it was designed for measuring and dispensing medicine.
Yes, we used it for giving medicine to our baby boy (27 years ago 👶)
start at the pharmacy. looks like a medicine measuring spoon for kids liquid meds.
The essential oils at Walmart say do not use on skin ....
Wow strange i ran across this video, being a carpenter that is always restoring a piece of old furniture i just use some lemon oil polish or Teak oil
Lol, thanks for watching Jeff, I think I'll stick with the beard oil, but nice to know there's an alternative in a pinch.
can you put that oil mixture in your hair too?
I suppose you could but it may be a little greasy as head hair doesn't absorb oil as well.

Thanks. @@chrisclayton584 Anytime.
Can I put equal parts of those carrier oils and essential oils?
Erwin, 5 % max for essential oils total, not each.

@@blazingbeardproducts2845 sir i have only 2 things this can be used for beard castor oil and coconut oil and olive oil plz tel me this is effective
