I think you've got some great first steps down here. Once ready to bring to the public i would make sure I have a website, not an Etsy shop. Shopify seems to be hot right now and trusted.
Up early in the morning, 2 am, and found these videos. Been working on starting a beard oil company for about a year and getting close. Research is key and finding what worked for me first is key. Have many companies oils and butters to see what I liked. Many different carrier blends I tried until I found something to make and adjust. I enlisted help from some great guys that own beard companies that have help guide me this far. A great community
This is exactly how I started my vape juice company and it worked out very well for me. Now I'm thinking about starting a beard grooming company. Great advice!
Great video! Don't chase the shiny stuff and the get rich quick schemes. Put in the work. Make decisions that let you be agile and make quick changes. Keep a journal of your scents and blends, so you can easily tweak and track it. Look forward to more!
The journaling is something that developed over time with me, and I absolutely wish I'd known what I WANTED to remember and started earlier. Good idea!
I'd honestly love to start my own beard care brand I just lack the knowledge. There are so many different brands and types of carrier oils and scented oils. It seems like it would take forever to lock down a good blend of everything. I wish I had some buddies that I could team up with and start something cool but I don't. The idea of it is very appealing, but the reality of it is something else all together.
I concur 💯 I've been researching mixing and blending fora bout six yrs now! I'm writing down formulas as we speak lol I'm always ordering shit off Amazon. It wud be nice tew have a Patna. Someone who shares the same passion. Let's make it happen!! 🙏🏾
It can be daunting, for sure, especially with a more crowded industry (some people mistakenly call it “oversaturated” when we, in fact, are in the first stages of such an industry), but start simple and move along with it. Test things out and try them with trusted friends who want to give real feedback. Then tweak as you go. May take time, but try it out!
I've been thinking about starting a beard grooming company for 15 years now. Now that I'm retired. I have to make a go at it. Great video. Many thanks. Congregations for you successful Endeavor. I would like try some of your products soon. Cheers and best of luck.💯
Great info Jimmy. The business basics often get overlooked in the excitement of starting a new idea. Looking forward to this series. Keep it coming brother!!
This is weird....while I have been making my own oil/balm for years....I only jus thought about possibly selling it at next year's farmers market. These things can now read minds lol
Hey Ruddy, thanks for your input, much appreciated. One thing I would like to ask if you wouldn't mind, would you source your ingredients domestically or from abroad such as China. I believe China would be the cheaper option, however I'm not sure I can always rely on any claims of it being 'cold pressed' or 'organic' unless I see genuine certificates. Thank You
Abu, you raise a great point. Yes, Chinese sources tend to be more affordable, but I would lean your way. Do some homework, check out all the sources you’re truly interested in, and at the end of the day, SLOW GROW works. Especially if you can sleep well at night knowing you haven’t made unnecessary shortcuts. Thanks so much for the question. If I can help, lemme know!
I wouldn't go to China for any oils be it carrier or essential. I'm making my own beard oil/balm and butters for myself. I'm getting all my oils from a UK based company that make full organic oils done by cold press and can produce full certification if required. You don't want to go cheap or filler type oils because your putting these on your skin and you want to avoid nasty reaction's for yourself or others if you start making them for family, friends or general public.
Thank you for this video. I wanted to start a beard grooming business a few years ago. Started experimenting by making a few different oils, then some things in life got in the way and I put it on hold. I think it's time now to get back to that mindset and see what I can make of it.
Great info! Thank you! I got my Esthetician license last year and am currently in barber school. I plan on opening a man spa and I would like to push my own beard care line so this is great information. Much appreciated!
I mean, don't we all at some point? "I could do that" is a very good indicator of the creative muse, or at the least, an inspired human. I love it! Thanks, my man!
I would absolutely perfect a butter first then balm and oil after that. Just my thoughts I always hear a good butter is the hardest to make but idk that for sure
Sooo much fantastic info! Thank you so much my friend! Definitely subscribed. I started attempting to make candles, that’s still a work in progress lol, but that’s lead me to being open to diy’ing more of the things I buy every day, so here I am Learning how to make beard oil for myself.
This is some real good info my man, I have been making diy oils for quite a while now, thinking about making it a bit bigger, thanks for the great tips, Stay Bearded!
I’ve been making my own Beard Oil for years now. I recently branded and bottled a little bit using my band’s name, made some labels and plan on putting it on the merch table along with band t-shirts and what not. This was a very good video, and now I guess I need to learn how to make Beard Butter
Hey Shaun, that totally depends on the IFRA standards of each of the fragrance/essential oils you are using. Reputable suppliers will have that info readily available, my man!
I have used it as a base for balms and butters in the past. The only reason I don’t know is that the natural scent of that butter is SO strong that any added EO’s or FO’s can’t compete. If you use it, I DO think a refined version will help and won’t hurt the benefits of the product.
It is daunting, but there are SO many great and reputable wholesale/bulk suppliers that listing them here won’t help. Search engines prove useful for finding them…you will need to go digging around to ensure they have IFRA certification sheets/info on their fragrances, and then just simply make sure the products you’re purchasing as raw goods all line up as wholly natural/refined goods, with NO fillers…Ain’t nobody got time for dat!
Hello just came across your video, I'm in the beginning process of starting up own Beard oil business, thank you for the usefull Information. One quick question I was considering starting off with three separate fragrances, do you think this is an OK idea or should I focus on one fragrance to start with?
I think starting with three is great. I’m sorry this response is late, but my two cents is that having three gives your prospective audience enough choices to like at least one without breaking your bank making them.
Hey man thanks. I tried to make my own beard oil, the thing I'm struggling with is making the cedarwood last more than 5 minutes. I've put 15 drops into 30ml of carrier oils, the smell is there however after 5 minutes its gone, is this normal? Is it safe to put in 20 drops in 30ml?
Hey Abu, This is precisely why many makers have forgone using strictly essential oils and now utilized skin-safe fragrance oils. They are scientifically proven to be “neutral,” in that they don’t add to or take away from your skin or hair’s health, but their scent duration and strength is much more consistent, and many times, you can use MUCH less for a greater-smelling product that lasts longer. Also, they are MUCH more affordable, and since they don’t hurt you (as long as you’re following IFRA guidelines on volume), they’re a win in my book. Thanks for reaching out!
Hey Buddy Man. I really enjoyed your video. A lot of good advice. I've been making my own beard/body butter and have been seriously considering starting my own company. Was wanting to possibly pick your brain. However, I did not notice your email address in the description panel. Is that still something you would be willing to put up? Would love to connect with you. Thanks.
Hey Aaron, it depends on what you actually order. If it’s a typical purchase and not our Beast Box subscription, it comes bubble baggied inside of a bubble mailer. The sub boxes have crinkle paper inside a Kraft mailer. Hope that helps, boss!
A buddy of mine help me design a logo I thought of a really awesome name it just took me a whole day of thinking about it next I'm ordering a bunch of different oils and experimenting and then I'm going to start beta testing
Hey Ruddy I need some help. I have set up my own lab/work room at home dedicated to grooming products I’ve been making for many years. My issue is, do I need licenses etc for making beard oils and balms etc?
Hey Aaron, great question! The short answer is no, not in the US. However, I would strongly urge you to register as an LLC for liability coverage, as it will create a protective buffer between you personally and your business should it ever endure litigation. It’s always preferable to use great safety and business methods for the coming day when the FDA will regulate our industry’s production, so stay conformed to IFRA standards and you’ll be ok!
@@RuddyManGrooming thanks for your reply Ruddy. I have an LLC set up and have liability insurance. However, I live in Las Vegas and someone told me that anything other than soap is considered cosmetic and I would need a cosmetic license, which you can’t get for residential manufacturing. Nothing seems clear at all and I really want to get my little one man business up and running.
@@Aaron83W I can’t speak for Vegas, but I and my compatriots don’t have required cosmetic licenses as our industry is not regulated by FDA as of now. That may change soon, but all of our products are considered handmade goods, and thus, more in line with artisanal products. I’ll have to do some digging and asking for you.
@@RuddyManGrooming hey Ruddy I called around today and spoke to some beard oil and balm makers in the state of Nevada and all of them said they don’t have a cosmetic license. I also tried calling and emailing the state about the license and everyone I spoke to at the offices had no clue…lol It’s game on, I’m going to start my business.
Thanks for asking! That’s going to depend entirely on that particular fragrance’s suggested use protocol per the IFRA. Reputable fragrance oil suppliers should have this information listed on each fragrance’s purchase page or as a downloadable file.
I'd say the first step if you wanna start a beard whatever is.. 1. GROW OUT YOUR BEARD FOR A YEAR (minimum), so that you know what it is to own a beard and how to maintain properly and to love your beard. 2. Follow whatever Ruddy is saying .
