BXRchampion1993 it has classic front mid engined gt car proportions and it doesn't follow any dumb design language while maintaining Alfa Romeo style. It's timeless. Like 33 stradale.
The 8C is the defining car for the argument that experience has become the virtue of the "best" cars, and not performance. The noise, rarity, aesthetic and attention to detail make the 8C far more desirable than the 430 or Granturismo, despite not wearing the Ferrari or Maserati name. 50 years later, I bet this will be the Sprint Speciale of its day. It isn't particularly fast for its time, but boy oh boy is it special.
Frankly the only reason that it is special is that they only produced 500. If they produced 20k a year and priced it at $40k then despite it's great looks and sound people wouldn't consider it any more special than a Mustang.
Peder Hansen I have friends who are from Iran and still call themselves Persian........ but this dude is Arab and his wife is italian.... he wishes he was italian and loves the culture obviously.......
I'm not sure what my top 5 is, there are so many beauties to choose from... Lamborghini Miura, Ferrari 250GT, Mercedes 300SL, Jaguar E-type... just random from the top of my head :)
Love the 8C, what a car. Afshin seems like a top bloke too. Great to see a "real world" review / discussion about a car that you don't hear a lot about anymore. I always thought they were probably more fun to drive than the reviewers would have you believe!
Aaron Henderson people who are cool as fuck and are rich probably earned their money and they know it. douchebags who are rich are that way because they got lucky and they know it and so still feel a need to boast. thats what i beleive anyway
Matt, you still need to drive an Alfa 75 to complete the puzzle of what an Alfa Romeo was to drive. Tuned 75s (turbos or V6s) were so popular in the 80s & 90s. Essentially, you need to drive a V6 alfa, this engine is one of the best engines ever.
Matt, I don't know if u will ever see this comment. But the 8C is one of the most valuable italian supercar from the 2000s on the market. It still sells strong above 330k at a auction.
I saw one of these in LA on the road about 4 years ago, I had no idea they were so rare. Great looking and sounding car, it's just a shame they never came with a manual :'(
As a cyclist (who tries to avoid the most popular driving roads out of respect and self preservation) I would definitely consider it a treat to hear and see that car up close. Not every cyclist is a granola crunching car hater.
first comments are the gearbox dated it. That happens for every automated gearbox when a newer version comes out, its kind of like the infotainment systems, once the new one comes out it is instantly dated. The engine, chassis and style will be amazing for years to come, it just needed a manual trans and it wouldn't be dated anymore
Unfortunately people don't understand Clarkson had an agenda when he did his 8C review....and that was to show that a car can be art! Watch the video. It is all very tongue in cheek. He's trying to say the car is just awful so that he can make it fit definition of "art." Now, reality is you watch him in the first several minutes driving the car and he's clearly enjoying himself. I've driven several 8Cs....probably more than most. They are a terrific car to drive in every respect except for the heavy steering. My guess is dialing the caster properly will lighten up the steering to where it should be.
This is hands down one of the top 5 best looking cars of the modern age. The real question is, how did they fit such a glorious sounding v8 into this thing??
Thank you Afshin for sharing your Alfas with Matt and us, and it's nice to see that you drive them, not just collect them. I've been an Alfa fan since the 70's, owned several sports cars but never owned an Alfa unfortunately. BTW my screen saver is the 8C; you're never too old to dream.
From the windshield forward that is the most sophisticated look in all of modern automobile-dom. The sound of the over run on shifting is pure race car.. burble, pop, crack. Holy poop.
Way back in 2001. I had a Friend Ian from Dublin Ireland. When he came to the states for work he brought 2 cars with him. A 156 Alfa with the Twin Spark engine and a 2000 Honda Civic Type r. I had a 1988 Mark 3 Turbo Supra. When we would be driving in Florida he would get so many looks because at the time Alfa was not sold here. When he had to have brakes done a guy from Italy flew to the Subaru dealership that used to sell Alfa’s to install a new brake system. People stopped at the shop who had Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus and even Lamborghini back then.
I clicked on this video because I wanted a regular guys review of the 8c, I wasn't disappointed! Great review and video, I could have listened to that engine for an hour, God is that a glorious sound! Thanks for a great video.
One of my dream cars. Pure car art. The Top Gear review is spot on in that regard. One of the most beautiful cars ever made, and one of the best sounding. Will never be able to have one, but I am saving for a Maserati Gransport - which is nearly the same thing - and much cheaper. Kudos for the Spaceballs reference. RIP John Candy.
I just now realized that two of my favorite cars in terms of sound have the same engine. This has the same 4.7 liter "Ferrari" engine as the Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS. If I weren't allowed to sell them, I would honestly rather take the Maserati. It's more affordable and practical and sounds just as good.
You know, upon further reflection and more than one video starring those glasses I've come to the conclusion, my own humble opinion, that he can officially "rock" those glasses so to speak and not give the perception of being a poseur so to speak. He has a serious Alfa collection and if anyone has the right shit to wear those it's this guy. I say this as they were quite the topic in the first video. Bravo Sir! And I'm sure he gives less than 2 shit's what anyone thinks as well...
MY FAVORITE CAR OF ALL TIME, with all it's issues I still love it, because only the 8C have it and I think that made her the best "soul" in an Alfa Romeo. (Owner of a 156 GTA and 4C)
Two of my favorite car channels together. Wow. And of course he has good taste, though I'm surprised he didn't choose a really old car given his usual subject matter.
maybe it is intentional that the automatic transmission is slow on gear changes... so you can enjoy the engine sound and the crackles while changing gear... like a manual shift... heck! it even blips when you down shift!!! I think it's a misunderstood transmission... I like Clarkson reviews very much... but I ignored his review of the 8C (though I gotta say, even if he didn't liked it it was a damn good review... the first one with the more piano music background) I just fell in love with the sound and looks of the darn car... it sounds like a race car... cheers!
People shat on this car because it was the first RWD Alfa car after a long time and everyone expected it would be a Ferrari-like supercar, especially because of how it looked and when it was announced that it would be a full carbon body car, so everyone assumed it would be this hard core supercar for a track, but it ended up being a GT car, ruining everyone's day. It didn't drive as well as it was expected of it, and it wasn't as refined or as comfortable and luxurious as Maserati GT's were, even though it was FAR more expensive than Maserati's. Basically, this car was poorly thought out and made, because it failed at being a great GT car and at being a great sports car at the same time. Buying a Maserati GT for far less money was simply a better option for a GT car, and buying a Ferrari 430 was better for a supercar at about the same price.
this thing is glorious, the gerbox sadly is old but everything else is beautiful. it looks really really really good, is sounds amazing and for the road is as fast as in needs to be. when i will have the money this, the carrera gt and the lfa are on top of my list
You know that was the thing that always bugged me about top gear, whatever clarkson said, became law in this time period, and this wasnt the only victim, the ferrari testarossa in particular, given that he was a ferrari man and called it terrible badly hurt the prices till harry evo came out with his videos on it. as I'm convinced he just hates GT cars that dont feel like sports cars till you get on them, and I think the only reason the daytona is an exception is because he loves the body lines. and thus he was able to put up with it, plus he is also like 6 foot 4, and thus most things that fit normal people dont fit him. which makes me wonder what he thinks about the Berlinetta boxer series, as eastwood owned and drove a 512BB back in the day. and he's about the same height too. and the problems not with the man in this regard, its just how much pull Top Gear had with him at the Helm, and honestly this is the best thing about Neu Top Gear, that's no longer an issues, and its no longer his word about everything. and the most ironic thing about that statement, I think the 8C is the new Ferrari Daytona of this age, hated in period, loved in hindsight. but unlike a daytona, its not boring looking in period lol as its got a unique body, unique interior, something that was recycled on the Daytona from the Dino, and its the last of its time hell a Lusso is three times what a daytona should be really.
That custom seat configuration is my dream! I am OCD with my seat and hate when its moved, even slightly, lol....alot of cars I see or have owned didn't have memory seats, but this would be glorious and a perfect excuse to say for not moving my seat at all, "Only the dealership can readjust my seat". Love it!
only mistake (rather huge) with this car is the tire size specification. They messed up and used the same aspect ratio front and rear with staggered tires. Rather massive design flaw given the fact its a FR not a RR like the Ferrari's. This is the leading issue behind some of the complaints when pushing it at the limits. Still...The best Alfa in modern history!!!
One of the best looking cars made, the owner seems really cool! respect it when owners of exotic cars say those words "it's meant to be driven" touche sir touche.
I like the transmission though. Sure it's not that fast, but when you're ripping up those canyon roads under heavy throttle those shifts are so dramatic and satisfying.
Actually there is a company in Italy called Touring, who build the Disco Volante utilizing the same platform of the 8C, that solved the suspension problem and improved the exhaust system. Regarding the transmission probably don´t need a manual transmission, the automatic ZF 8HP utilized in the Giulia with the sequential shift would be enough to unlock the full potential of this car
Me too! Same color? Funny story... I work the Turkey Run Classic Car Show at Daytona, & about 6 yrs ago (year after I got the model!) in drives the REAL car exact same color - like seeing a unicorn! I of course followed him to his spot. Actually for sale the guy is a nearby broker. Planned to come back & take a load of shots but he left early! The next year made up for it. He showed up in a pearlescent white spyder & didn't make that mistake twice! When I saw him last yr he'd sold the coupe but still had the Spyder. This video sure makes me want to give him a shout. Huge car guy very cool even acted like he'd let me drive his toys(not sure this one). If you've not seen in person they are absolutely stunning, the paintwork & craftsmanship are second to none too.
Malibu....one of the best places on earth. Some great canyon driving. I would bet people are harsh on its handling/ performance due to the perfection of the body....they think it might be their holy grail.
My feeling is that the owner keeps this car as an investment, hence the low miles. Therefore talking about suspension improvements did not get any traction. Also, the talk about crashing 8C was kind of weird. I bet the owner doesn't even think about thinking about it. Big fan of the channel.
There will always be people who say "it doesn't drive/perform well". Those people didn't deserve the opportunity to validate their claims. You don't buy an 8C for what other cars can do better. You EXPERIENCE an 8C for what no other car can deliver.
Man I love your channel! No asshole driving, great cars, beautiful roads, always honest. I love the effort you put in pronouncing correctly cars names, I think you may be the only american that knows how to pronounce "Lancia" :P greetings from Italy
That engine note and style makes up for any short comings this car has. my god it's pretty.
That car looks relatively new for something that came out in 2008.
BXRchampion1993 apart from the interior....unfortunately
BXRchampion1993 it has classic front mid engined gt car proportions and it doesn't follow any dumb design language while maintaining Alfa Romeo style. It's timeless. Like 33 stradale.
BXRchampion1993 2008 has made it pretty damn far!
Henry Kincaid, the interior looks timeless, if i'm honest.
2008? looks like something from 2002
That engine should be in everything!
was in Maseratis and Ferraris of same vintage. Glorious engine.
Is still in Maserati GranTurismo of today.
In 50 years time this car will be a winner of few councourses I bet. The 430 and Granturismo will not even qualify for some of these events.
storck08 50 yrs from now we'll be racing hover crafts lol.
Frankly the only reason that it is special is that they only produced 500. If they produced 20k a year and priced it at $40k then despite it's great looks and sound people wouldn't consider it any more special than a Mustang.
Adam S the only made 25 jaguar xkrs gts and no one considers it special
Adam S lol that is not even close to true...nor would they be able to price it at 40k with a full carbon body and interior ...
The Legendary Sunshades are back ! Love that guy though
Simon Vuille he's a real automotive enthusiast...... he's passionate about his cars..
Great taste in cars, questionable taste in sunglasses - but he is Italian, so he does kinda get away with it IMO.
Matthew Sharpe he's Persian
Girls car
Peder Hansen I have friends who are from Iran and still call themselves Persian........ but this dude is Arab and his wife is italian.... he wishes he was italian and loves the culture obviously.......
That synchronized laugh at 6:16
so much cringe
cringe? I found it creepy af, like 2 robots laughing together...
The Revenant oh I read that at the exact moment it happened 😂 it reminded me of the aliens from the Simpson's or something
-YA!
-HEH HEH HEH HAH HAH
why did you make it sound like cringe and creepy aren't very similar ways to describe something
The 8c is a contender for the top 5 most beautiful cars ever for sure.
The other 4 being? Just curious.
Adriano's Classic 500 eg hatch
So 4 500 eg' s and the Alfa?
I'm not sure what my top 5 is, there are so many beauties to choose from... Lamborghini Miura, Ferrari 250GT, Mercedes 300SL, Jaguar E-type... just random from the top of my head :)
Adriano's Classic 500 yes a it's gorgeous automobile !
Imagine the 8C with a good manual transmission and a gated shifter...
SergeantMoetz stop it!!! My erection can only get so hard
Funnily enough the prototype had a manual 'box.
This would be my dream car if it had manual transmission.
The Giulia prototype had a manual too. It's a shame they didn't follow through.
electroreviews01 uhm... not really, in Italy or Europe there is a manual choice
Love the 8C, what a car. Afshin seems like a top bloke too. Great to see a "real world" review / discussion about a car that you don't hear a lot about anymore. I always thought they were probably more fun to drive than the reviewers would have you believe!
I like this guy, he always seems surprisingly down to earth for someone who obviously has a lot of money.
Aaron Henderson people who are cool as fuck and are rich probably earned their money and they know it. douchebags who are rich are that way because they got lucky and they know it and so still feel a need to boast.
thats what i beleive anyway

Arguably the most beautiful car of all time. To me definitely up there with 300 SL, F40, F355, Testarossa, Countach, Huayra and so on...
I saw one of these in LA on the road about 4 years ago, I had no idea they were so rare. Great looking and sounding car, it's just a shame they never came with a manual :'(
YEP THE MANUAL!
That branded windshield wiper arm though...
cbcsmithers all modern alfa romeos have that touch
my e46 330 has that lol
and my giulia quadrifoglio 510 hp? record nurburgring.bye bye e46
my alfa 147 from 2004 has that too :D
My previous 2017 and now my 2019 Alfa Giulia does NOT come with these branded wipers? I wish it did however. That is a very cool subtle feature.
The greenhouse is very interesting, I love how all the windows are round. It just looks funky inside and I love it.
And Alfa is bringing it back.
This is one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen.
As a cyclist (who tries to avoid the most popular driving roads out of respect and self preservation) I would definitely consider it a treat to hear and see that car up close. Not every cyclist is a granola crunching car hater.
Next video this guy is going to show up with a Disco Volante
first comments are the gearbox dated it. The engine, chassis and style will be amazing for years to come, it just needed a manual trans and it wouldn't be dated anymore
I watch with captions on, and when you opened up the throttle after waiting for that car to clear, the captions said [music]. 😁
Joe Schmoe lmfao!
Funny. Mine said [Applause].
the caption wasn't wrong
The looks are worth the 300K on their own. So the rest is for free!
The passenger makes some of the best videos on RUclips that shows not only the car, but passion by its owners. The Ferrari 250 GTB video was insane!
I've driven one of these and it was unbelievable. The sound coming out of those exhaust pipes was one of the most beautiful noises I've ever heard.
You were obviously reading the comments. I've seen so many people request this car. I am happy to see it on your channel as well.
This guy has sunglasses the size of my hometown!
Sounds like a muscle car, even with the slightly slow paddle shift which makes it sound like a fast manual change. Love it!
Genuinely one of the prettiest works of art ever made.
8C comes standard with a REAL stereo sound . . . amazing!
That engine bay was filthy. I love it!
From the windshield forward that is the most sophisticated look in all of modern automobile-dom. The sound of the over run on shifting is pure race car.. burble, pop, crack. Holy poop.
I didn't even realize they were sold North America! It is one of the best sounding V-8's out there…
Way back in 2001. I had a Friend Ian from Dublin Ireland. When he came to the states for work he brought 2 cars with him. A 156 Alfa with the Twin Spark engine and a 2000 Honda Civic Type r. One of the most beautiful cars out there. I love the shape of the side windows, looks perfect from every angle
ChaosphereIX maserati gran turismo s sound veeeeerrrrryyy simillar. You can buy ome of those :) and its beautiful too
Yes it does. Would rather have the Gransport honestly, personal preference. Both have the same engine too.
You should bring this guy back at least once a month. FUCKING LEGEND.

One of the best looking cars ever made, paired with the the worst looking sunglasses I've ever seen . . .
Love auto tempest- not because you told me to, but because you told me to!! Thanks Matt!
An Auto Masterpiece for centuries
I've seen one in the flesh. Easily one of the most beautiful cars ever made. The lines, proportions... and that sound!!!!
One of the Top5 most beautiful cars... such a great one. even the "older" interior is just great.
This car was beautiful in 2007 and will stand out and be beautiful 100 years from now. It's auto art
Two of my favorite car channels together. Wow. And of course he has good taste, though I'm surprised he didn't choose a really old car given his usual subject matter.
super rare piece of art and spaceballs. all a video needs! such a beautiful car. happy to see you didnt rip it apart for being what it is.
maybe it is intentional that the automatic transmission is slow on gear changes... so you can enjoy the engine sound and the crackles while changing gear... like a manual shift... heck! it even blips when you down shift!!! I think it's a misunderstood transmission...

cheers!
Who needs a radio with this sound. Such a gorgeous car
This and the OG vanquish...So beautiful it hurts!
This and the MC Stradale look amazing with the same engine ofc. Such beauty the 8c
I wouldn't have thought this was a 2007. It has held its age very well lookswise
AUTOTEMPEST IS GOING TO CHANGE MY LIFE. Thank you for the suggestion!
I absolutely adore this car.
that is a beautiful car. possibly most beautiful of this era

Thank you Matt for the review. The 8C has always been one of my go to drool tools. They look and sound amazing. Cheers
True indeed, beauty beats everything long term. I love how classic it looks, and how filthy it sounds.

"Her royal highness' matched luggage."
I lost it. I appreciate you, Matt, and your occasional Spaceballs references.
Gotta say one of the most beautiful cars made..
Jeeeez those glasses again...every time I see them it cracks me up. Finest humour is unintentional.
I love this car. If I could have one car for the rest of my life it would be this.
What a glorious sounding car. Sound matches the looks!
Best sounding engine ever
I have the 1/18 version of this car and it's a work of art!
Me too! Same color? Funny story... I work the Turkey Run Classic Car Show at Daytona, & about 6 yrs ago (year after I got the model!) in drives the REAL car exact same color - like seeing a unicorn! this car never got great reviews seems like a fun drive. Looks great
Malibu....one of the best places on earth. Some great canyon driving. I would bet people are harsh on its handling/ performance due to the perfection of the body....they think it might be their holy grail.
The Spider is far rarer than the coupe and it has carbon fiber brakes (coupe has steel) and a revised and better driving suspension.
Marvelous car. 3500lbs seems just right for a GT car.
The first rule of Italian driving..........what's behind me is not important.
And what's ahead of me must step aside quickly.
Precisamente.
Hats off to a generous owner...well done Sir.
love the 8C , looks and sound
2 seconds into the acceleration was magical, intoxicating.
My feeling is that the owner keeps this car as an investment, hence the low miles. Therefore talking about suspension improvements did not get any traction. Also, the talk about crashing 8C was kind of weird. I bet the owner doesn't even think about thinking about it. Big fan of the channel.
Perfect example of "Automotive Smut". The looks...that sound! I think I may need a private moment.
Just beautiful.....
ALFA 8C ,LFA are the only 2 cars I would have to absolutely have in my dream garage to be completed
Stunning Car!!! So cool that they sold in the US before fully moving back years later
I saw an 8C on the road last weekend! In Greenwich CT of course.
what a beautiful car, cool owner, and just god tier engine. that side profile though.
There will always be people who say "it doesn't drive/perform well". Those people didn't deserve the opportunity to validate their claims. You don't buy an 8C for what other cars can do better. You EXPERIENCE an 8C for what no other car can deliver.
Finally a video worth watching
Man I love your channel! No asshole driving, great cars, beautiful roads, always honest. I love the effort you put in pronouncing correctly cars names, I think you may be the only american that knows how to pronounce "Lancia" :P greetings from Italy
