Was very apprehensive about using this product as I thought it was beyond my capabilities, but having watched the video countless times I gave it my best shot and am amazed how simple and effective this is. My car had failed an MOT previously so wanted to make sure there was no repeat and added expense. Very very happy and will recommend to family and friends without any hesitation. AAA+++
Fantastic to read that Darren! Thank you for your message. We always try to make all of our products as easy to use as possible, whilst still giving excellent results.
Excellent results! Some points to consider.
1. Use an electric drill rather than a battery drill...my fully charged battery didn't last long enough for one headlamp...YMMV.
2. If you do this with the bonnet open, cover the engine...mine was covered in white spots when I'd finished.
3. Don't skimp on the masking tape....use plenty of layers especially around sharp corners.
Btw what was the rotational speed of your electric drill?
Just used this on my 13 year old Polos headlights, amazing results and didn't even take that long either.
Wow! Just did my 12 year old MINI's headlights this evening, what a difference! Thanks for making this kit and the info/video that makes it a doddle to use :-)
Oh wow, thanks for your comment, that is really kind. Glad that the video helped - that's why we make 'em!
Used this today on a 18 year old Audi A4 cab's headlight. The difference is absolutely remarkable. As people say, jump in and hold your nerve. This product is so well thought out that it won't let you down. Bless the folks at Autoglym. I was astounded at the results and my wife's reaction earned me loads of Brownie points. Thanks, very much..
Thanks you! What a kind comment.
Frank Devoy awesome brownies always handy
This kit is brilliant! Used on my 10 year old Honda Type-S and headlights came up like new! My lights were so bad they were green before I started to use this kit. I didn’t even need all the sanding discs that were included , to achieve a stunning result. As others have said, use an electrical instead of a battery one, but make sure it’s one you can adjust to low rpm. Thanks Auto Glymn for this excellent kit.
Great to hear!
Just used this on my 30 year old FTO. The headlight was peeling and looked horrible, was worried I was going to ruin the headlight by doing this, now it's finished it looks great and it was so easy!!!!! I just need to put a coating on it to finish it off. Really pleased.
Make sure you ware a mask when doing it!
Great to hear!
I have used this many times!! Just a three things first was always ware a mask when dry sanding you don't won't plastic (polycarbonate) particles in your lungs, And always select a slow setting when sanding and light pressure on the drill head otherwise you risk burning and damage to the lens, And lastly applying a professional clearcoat adds another level of clarity, Not to mention longevity of clarity of the lens!! Great straight up introductions Brilliant well done!!😎🇬🇧👍
What clear coat do you use?
Yea thats right , neither to you need it in your lungs or gound glass in your eyes or anyplace else ! Was a grat video fair play , I HATE TO SAY wear a MASK !! LOL !! bit in THIS case not a bad idea
Just bought this for my seat Leon. My lights are proper cloudy … this was caused by acid placed on them at the car wash but didn’t notice till a few days later !!! So be careful guys and gals !!! Can’t wait to try it and hopefully get the same results as Shen in this video. Total novice so guna have to take it canny 😵😵👍🏽👍🏽😀😀.. great video 😀😀
Got the kit yesterday and so started it today and wow it's brilliant piece of kit. Would recommend it 100%
Great news, glad you are getting great results with our kit.
Was nervous about using this but it has given fantastic results! Money well spent!
Delighted to read that Paul!
Just spent a pleasant couple of hours using this product on my pride and joy (Honda Civic Type S GT). Worked an absolute treat! I just hope it lasts.
We bet it looks like new again! (Great choice of car btw)
@@AutoglymUK Thank you! Yes, they look brilliant compared to what they had looked like. Thank you for a really good product (with very good supplied instructions).
Autoglym is the only product I use and out of the brilliant extensive range they have apart from one which is the Wash & Wax shampoo, I have not used one of these restoration kits but I'm looking to do a 13 year old Mazda2 very soon, but thanks for the video, looked impressive.
Great stuff David, if you are not a fan of our Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner, we have two others you can try 😀 Just foolow the steps in the video and you will do great.
I used it today on OHs Polo, brilliant job.
This kit is great made a huge difference to my headlights
Great to hear that.
My head lights are xenon and they are white with a hint of ice blue...at night I can barely see the the road markings ....infact I can barely see the light beams on the floor ....do you think this will solve the issue? At the moment I don't know if it's electrics or this cloudy head light which I also have
Absolutely Brilliant stuff bought my crv headlights up like new x
Great to hear!
forgive my ignorance but I only have a cordless black and decker numbered 1 to 10 not the rpms that are on your drill, and a switch on top to change from one to two lol, what number should I use for this job? Thankyou, any advice from anyone would be appreciated 🙂
Usually in the manual they should list what rpms each level is. If not contact Black & Decker for further assistance in finding out the right speeds.
Used today with excellent results on a Jaguar S Type, 16 years old. Had to use some 800 wet and dry by hand as well as they were extremely badly pitted lenses but after removing that pitting this kit was amazing!
Can the white polishing pad be cleaned? What’s the best way to clean for future use?
The kit is designed to clean a set of lights, the pads are not really designed for re-use so we would recommend buying a new kit in the future when needed again.
Brilliant video, I’ve made a start on my head lights but I think I chickened out on at stage one so I still have scratches.
Is it safe to do this again? Thanks again for a fab video
Glad you like the video. Yes it is safe to repeat, don't skip stage one, that is where the magic happens!
Hi, just restored my 06 Freelander headlights using this restoration kit and I must say I have never seen headlights so clear, they look like new units. I was a bit sorry to see there is no UV protection included in the kit. What would you recommend I use to keep them looking sooooo good?
Great to hear! During the development of this kit we tested various UV protection solutions and found that none of them made any real difference to headlight fading following renovation with the kit. The same unit faded at the same sort of rate whether it had a UV spray on it or not. As a result, we decided not to include anything in the kit, as they do not appear to make a difference.
Yeah mate you can use a wax or sealant like Autoglym UHD or extra gloss protection but that will only last so long. For best results what I did was restore the headlight using the kit and then I sprayed 3 coats of clear coat (hycote clear gloss laquer) which I found on amazon for £10. It’s lasted a year so far.
Ok, its a shame i cant post a picture but this made a HUGE difference on my headlights. They were really yellow and hazy, but now they literally look brand new and shiny as hell. It took 3 hours (prep work included) And i cant feel my right arm, but it was totally worth it. I think the final result may vary depending how well you sand the headlights. I took my sweet time with every grid. UV sealer may be a good idea to add.
Glad that the kit worked out well for you, we did not include a UV sealer because during our testing of them we did not find one that actually made a huge difference vs the uncoated lense. The uncoated lense will remain clear for well over a year, so you may find it is not always required. .
Oh, and I used a battery drill. I did make sure to charge two full batteries and it worked just fine,
Does it stay clear for long??
We have observed lenses remain clear for 12 months +
Autoglym says that they haven’t observed fogging reoccurring after using their kit even after 12 months. Autoglym products are very good and they probably know what they are talking about, so I would recommend using this product.
just used this on my golf.. fantastic. !! many thanks.
I used it on my Z4, I agree it looks fantastic
Did you use some protective sealant solution after this?
Can you get replacement sanding pads to fit the set, or do you have to buy the complete set again?
Hi, the kit is designed to rectify one set of headlights using all the components, we would recommend purchasing a new set if needed again in the future.
I need to start this. What I wanted to know if we need to apply a protective coating after this whole process? I have a small bottle of surface sealant
We have found that lenses remain clear without any further protection for 12 months plus, however, if you wish to apply any additional protection you can.
@@AutoglymUK thanks for your reply. I will give this a shot
This is an amazing product it works very well👍
Glad you like it!
Hi. today i was using same kit, but i am scared to see after first sandpaper p800, my headlight surface was totally frosty and ruff surface, i am scared if its will get back to shine then it will cost more, how to get back shine and clean headlight as it was before? i mean do i need any other liquid ?
As per the video, after using the first disc continue to use the other discs, they will refine and bring back a clear headlight, keep the area and disc moist when working with the p2000 disc and p3000. As you reach these two steps the headlight will become clearer until the final compound is used.
What is the recommended speed to use, so you don't burn the lens plz
As advised in the video, the 1200-1600 rpm range will be sufficient, avoid higher speeds. This is for the duration of the restoration.
I have heavy scratching in a small area where I caught a wall. Should I sander the whole light cluster or only the area of the damage?
This kit is for the removal of hazing caused over time, it was not designed to remove scratches or gouges. It may improve the area, but be aware it is unlikely to remove any deep scratching. In order to achieve an even finish, you should always treat the entire light cluster.
Need to apply a uv sealer afterwards otherwise fogging returns after a few weeks!
We haven't observed this. We have headlights that were renovated using this kit over 12 months old that are still completely clear. The speed at which headlights fade after renovation is variable, but provided you renovate the lenses fully, it will not be a matter of weeks. If you find this IS the case, please get in touch as we would be very interested to see this as we have not seen that despite multiple uses and several months of testing 👍
I’ve just received a kit and the sanding pads are pink not green?
Can you shoot us a quick email at enquiries@autoglym.com so our customer care team can pick it up on Monday
@@AutoglymUK I just noticed your video is 7 yeas old so I guess it’s a product change. I’ve just used my kit on the headlight and the results are amazing and it was a quick process too.
How to you protect the headlights after you have finshed using the entire kit?
Super Resin Polish and Rapid Aqua Wax can be used to add a protective layer.
Bought this from Halfords the other day. It was missing the P3000 disc however I didn't realise until I got to the point of requiring it. It made quite a difference but still not crystal clear. It was very poor that the P3000 was not there as that might have made the final difference.
If you ever find something missing, let the retailer know or call us
@@AutoglymUK I did think of going back to Halfords but as the pack had been opened I did not think they would have agreed to any exchange or refund. Obviously you cannot tell if all the discs are present until you open the pack.
How long does this kit make your headlights clean?
There would be no definitive answer for this as it would depends on many factors, e.g. storage, driving conditions, overall care for the car, how old the car is and the type of plastics etc. We would simply recommended re-using if needed in the future.
My car's headlights are free from yellow haze but could not get rid of all scratches after using this autoglym kit. For some reason can't achieve that mirror finish although I followed the video instructions
Sometimes the damage is on the inside of the lense, which the product does not touch. Also, whist the product will often help with removing scratches, that is not what it was designed to do. It was developed to remove to remove hazing and clouding.
How long is the effect likely to last? I assume once the polish has worn off we'd be back to a cloudy haze or even a yellowing? Rather than polishing, after the 3000 stage, could a clear coat with UV protection be applied for a longer lasting, if not permanent fix?
The polish is not left behind on the lens. Once the headlight is renovated it is done. We have headlights that we have renovated on vehicles that are still clear a year after the kit was used.
How long will it last though compared to a brand new lens? I don't care about how it looks right then and there if this is an effect that you literally can wash off, or else you'll often be doing this process over and over on the same lens.
You'll be physically removing the hazing on the lens so no worries of "washing" anything off. Over the months/years depending on the plastic it may haze again, you can add protection products over the headlights such as Rapid Ceramic Spray etc when you do the same to your paintwork to add another sacrificial barrier which may help prevent the UV rays from causing the effect.
Quick question, if it fades again after 12 months how many times (if any) can you repeat the process? I really want to have a go at this, but I don’t really want to be doing it annually.
Hey Biff, the answer to the first question will depend on the severity of the defects that have to be removed each time. More severe = more material has to be removed = less goes at it in the future. Secondly, the speed at which is refades is a variable too, depending on exposure to UV, so the weather, storage conditions and even the type of plastic used in the first place, which can vary between vehicles.
So having said all that, and indicating it is not possible to give a tangible answer, we will say that in our experience of using the kit, and the feedback we have received from customers, renovated lenses will remain clear for over 12 months without too much issue, however once they start to go, it is a job you will be repeating at some point in the future - there is no permanent fix.
@@AutoglymUK thanks for the quick response. I think I’m going to give it a go sometime in the coming weeks. I’ll let you know how I get on.
I just bought this but found out the drill I have is 500rpm, will I need to buy another drill that has the speed requirements you state, 1200 to 1600?
Hi, we would recommend using a drill with the range we recommend, 500 would be too slow and not generate enough friction to effectively rectify the lights.
My headlights have tiny round micro cracks I assume caused by sunlight or something. Can it get rid of these ?
The Headlight Restoration kit helps to improve the appearance of cloudy and heavily oxidised headlights but regrettably we would notrecommend it to improve the appearance of cracks.
Thanks got the finish I needed very pleased .
Hi, is this typically speed setting 1 or 2?
Looks more like slow and gentle so guessing the slower speed?
Got my transit’s lights to do.
Should not make too much of a difference
AutoglymUK my dewalt cordless, speed 1 is 550rpm, speed 2 is 2000rpm, so did it on speed 2 but not cranked all the way up. Great kit, only negative would be, for big transit lights, an extra sheet of the 800 and 1500 per light, and to have had a 2000 and 3000 pad per light would have been good. Though easily available on eBay.
I’m sure for the average car, with much smaller lights, the pads supplied were adequate though.
Otherwise, won’t lie, was nervous prior to doing them but they cleaned up really well! Few areas were quite bad (glazed maybe?) but those areas are much improved and the area where the actual beam is projecting is almost like new.
Very pleased overall, was quoted 48€ per light, and done myself for whatever the cost of the kit was, £20-30 from Halfords (a few years ago)
👍🏼
I don't know what kind of magic or sorcery the lads at Autoglym are using but this 25£ kit (at Amazon) saved me 650£ (both head lights) for my Land Cruiser V8, I'm really impressed, more so the Toyota dealer, ha ha.
Very glad that our kit helped save the day (and quite a few £££'s)
@@AutoglymUK *£££s
A new film of protection is needed after sanding, by sanding you`ll remove the previous layer of protection wich blocks out the UV rays, wich affects the headlights clearity [it is just a matter of time...]. A coating or wax like product will add some protection but a layer of clear coat would be advised.
Yes. After a year or so the headlight will go hazy again!
Thanks, that was the question I was going to ask. I've seen people spray them with an aerosol can of clear coat afterwards. I wondered if that was going to be mentioned at the end of the video.
Does this work on glass lenses
No, this will not cut glass, it is effective on plastic lenses only.
What size are the discs and do you provide a replacement kit?
Hi Luke, no replacement kit at present, the pads are about 8cm across.
Hi, I just go the kit ( i used it before on my old car that had badly oxidised lights and it worked perfectly) but the lights i'm planning to use it on now are not as bad. Do i still need to go through all the steps or can i take a shorted less invasive route and start from let's say grit 2000 ?
Can this kit be used with a DA polisher?
This kit, the flatting paper contents and the compound are all designed to work with a drill. It has not been tested with a DA, rotary or any other machine other than a drill - as such we are unable to comment with any certainty if it is suitable to use with a DA. Sorry for the long answer, but we wouldn't want to take a guess with your headlights, if you want to try it that is down to you - but we only use thins and recommend it is used with a drill as shown on the video.
I gave it a go anyway today. I used it on the lowest speed and the results were great. I wiped EG Protection afterwards to hopefully help keep them looking this good
Thanks for the feedback, glad you got a good result,
Hi I know the product is for Headlight restoration but I assume it can be used on tail lights too ?
We have not tested it on that surface, but one assumes that could be the case. Always test a small area first if possible.
Would i need to keep spraying the p800 disc with water?
No, P800 and P1500 are used dry.
So its normal when using P800 the light hesdlight looks like its sanded down?
Yes, exactly, just like in the video.
hi could I repeat the process from the beginning again as the first time I did one of the lights I didn't use the sand paper for long enough.
Yes
Does it work with peeled clear coat headlights, also?
It will improve them, yes,
Can you spray water on the headlight for all sanding stages?
Water isn't required at all stages. Only some of the papers are required to be wet. If you follow the video and written instructions that come with the kit you will get the correct result. Only use water when advised to do so.
Does this require a uv protector to help it last longer?
Whilst there are several UV protectors available to add to headlights after renovation, we have not found one that offers any real, meaningful long lasting protection. Rather than just include one for the sake of it we are still on the hunt for one that actually works and helps slow, or ideally will prevent the fading of the headlight again.
I've done many headlights. You need UV protection on clear plastic.
I've just used this product to restore the headlights of my car which had become very yellow and cloudy, and was verging on becoming an MOT issue. However, when I used the P800 disc, it put a series of scratches into the surface of both headlights and a number of these were deep scratches, potentially creating a new issue for the car's MOT, which is due next month. I thought that if I continued to follow the remaining steps in this video then the scratches may be buffered out, however they still remained when the steps were completed. Does anyone have any advice on how to remove scratches from headlights so I can correct this problem? Apart from the scratches, this product worked brilliantly, removing all the yellow colouration and cloudy parts!
Hi, please contact our Customer Care Team for advice on this. contact details are on the back of the pack.
I have same problem. Head lights were dull and yellow. The kit cleaned them up very well. Look brand new. But when u turn on light's u can see loads of small scratches. Did u ever find a solution to it?
Can this be done by hand, as I don't have a variable speed drill?
+Steve Saffer (InsolentMinx) No, we're afraid this must be done with a drill. The finished result would not be acceptable using this kit by hand.
you can do this by hand, autoglym may not recomend it but you can do the exact same thing with same grade sandpaper by hand. ive done it many years ago and worked really nicely. upmittedly not as good an outcome with using a drill. you can get hold of a half decent cordless drill on amazon i paid about 28 pound.
@@_wimza_7983 *admittedly
Brilliant instructional video.
Thanks Victor, that was the plan! Glad you found it both brilliant and instructional.
Great product, works a treat. One drawback, the instructions were printed very poorly, faded and very small. A larger and heavier ink print would be useful.
Sorry to hear that, it would be great to see those poorly printed instructions, if you still have them could you contact our Customer Care Department? Would be great to get that logged.
do you need to apply a sealer on it?
No, although you can do if you wish.
Great easy to use product
Does the kit restore the two headlights or just for one?
Two, if not more
Don't forget Step 4 - protect the restored headlight with carnauba wax to provide UV protection going forward.
Can you buy extra sanding pads?
Hi Mark, not at the moment, we would like to offer this in the future though.
Would like to be able to buy some extra pads too. As mine came with 7 800 grit and only 3 1500 so I'm only going to be able to do 1 maybe 2 sets of headlights.
AutoglymUK I need a lower grit. Some of the scratches are deep. P500 maybe
How long does it last??
The conditions the lens is subjected to will cause it to deteriorate at different rates, however in the UK we have observed no deterioration in lenses 12 months after treatment. There is no definitive answer to your question I am afraid.
6-12 months would be great tbh and I usually polish and wax whole car every 6 months. I will definitely try the product. Thank you for reply. 👍👍
How long would you say each headlight takes to do?
Around 20-30 minutes depending on how severe the hazing is on the lights. The more there is, the longer it will take.
Could you advise if a drill with a setting of 0-600rpm would be okay to use?
Would it just take a little bit longer?
Not sure if that would work at all, or just take a lot longer. We recommended the speed setting in the video, as this is what we have found to work the best. We have not conducted testing at lower speeds, so would not want to guess and advise you without knowing the real answer.
What stops the headlights from oxidising again in a year? Is there any sealent/spray to put over?
We have headlights that were renovated using this kit over 12 months old that are still completely clear. The speed at which headlights fade after renovation is variable, but provided you renovate the lenses fully. You can apply a sealant after if you like, however, we have not found a solution's that provides any meaningful long term protection on this surface.
Nice product, does not remove scratches tho
It will not remove scratches, no, it is designed to remove haze and fading that can develop on plastic lenses.
Very educative
But he didn't seal the finished
You can add a sealant if you want, although we have not found one that actually makes a great deal of difference compared to leaving them unsealed. We tested several coatings side by side against a control lens that was un-coated and there was not a noticeable reduction in the speed of any fading. During development, we observed that restored, un-coated lenses were still perfectly clear after 12 months,
This won't work for long as you have removed the clearcoat without recoating, so it will start to oxidize again in no time
That's not strictly true - it depends on your definition of "in no time" Headlights that have been restored using this system have been remained clear for over 12 months since restoring. These are regularly used cars, stored outside in all the weathers, not garaged away out the sun. The headlights will start to fade again eventually, but not as quick as you may think, or have been led to believe.
i have an audi a4 it had no effect on the headlights what so ever
Why don't you just remove the headlight?
Keeping the headlight in is fine and means that the work area is stable, sufficient masking is enough to make the process safe.
Without UV protection, this won't last long though...
To add UV protection, either Rapid Aqua Wax, Rapid Ceramic Spray or Super Resin Polish can be used. Adding a sacrificial layer will help protect against UV rays in general.
@@AutoglymUK: thanks for the tips!

i done exactly what was in the video.drill on a slow speed hardly made an impression on the headlights
Resolute azza Could be that your lights are clouding from the inside.Have close look, you should be able to feel that it's rough or slightly raised on the outside.
There’s much better and easier way to do it, for 30€ cost. And enough material for several cleaning of both headlights
