I remember this too! My most favorite PS1 demo games from this particular demo disc are both Ape Escape and CTR: Crash Team Racing, and I also really like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater as well!

@@HeyWhoInvitedZac Yeah, and I also agree too since I've played the demo of CTR before which is one of my most favorite racing games for the PS1! I even have the full game for the PS1 including the 2019 remake titled Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled which I have for both PS4 and Nintendo Switch as well!

Psstt. The Crash Team Racing game has a secret boosting mechanic that wasn't explained in the demo. That mechanic itself added a lot of depth to the game, being able to keep your boost entire laps.

@@HeyWhoInvitedZac Jump into a turn, hold the jump button(L1 or R1). After 0.5 to 1 seconds, press the other jump button(L1 or R1). You can do this thrice in a row. All boosts in the game add up to a hidden reserve, almost like getting more fuel into a tank by doing tricks.

That Disc 1 pizza hut demo disc will forever hold a place in my heart. Me and my bro played all those games over and over. We didn't get FF8 because we couldn't read yet, but these will forever be GOATed to me!!
That menu music is burned in my core memory lmao. Miss the early 00's, late 90's.....

If I had to rank the demos on this demo disc, this would be how I'd go about it:
1st Place: Ape Escape. A 3D platformer that controls well, music is great to listen to, and the demo lets you play two whole levels plus 3 or 4 training levels. In addition, the demo also allows you to return to the levels after doing the training levels to capture any remaining monkeys and then again to do the time trial. It offers so much to try out here, even if it may not be for everyone. A lot of fun to be had before buying the full game.
2nd Place: Final Fantasy VIII. Easily the longest demo on here, you can play through a good portion of the story and take on numerous battles. The game looks and feels grand, and while it may go on for a bit too long, it was pretty enjoyable overall.
3rd Place: Crash Team Racing. It offers 3 modes to play on: 1 player, 2 player, and 4 player. Each mode puts the player(s) on a different race track, and it is quite fun to play on each. Control is smooth, and there are shortcuts to take advantage of that adds to the excitement.
4th Place: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. While it may be ranked low on here, that doesn't make this a bad demo by any means. It offers a 1 player session to rack up as many points as possible within the time limit. It has 2 characters to choose from, and you are able to get a different experience with each attempt. Plenty of different tricks to get out of this and get hundreds of points, and having a short amount of time will get players to want to buy the game for more. It could have done with having some of the missions available to try though. (The demo may or may not have 2 player available. I cannot confirm this.)
5th Place: Cool Boarders 4. Similar to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, this demo is not bad just because it is ranked the lowest. It's simply that it is up against very tough competition. As for the demo itself, you race down a mountain trying to win the race while also scoring as many points as possible via tricks. It handles pretty well, and it can be fun to build up points doing tricks. It is a step down from Pro Skater, though. It's difficult to earn a lot of points while also trying to get first place, so it's almost like you have to prioritize either scoring points or winning the race.

I love this. Totally different perspectives but I can TOTALLY see where you're coming from. I guess that's why the demo disc works right? I wish I could have tried the two player on THPS, but my stupid second controller became burnt toast the second I hit record that day lol

@@HeyWhoInvitedZac I guess I'm who sees demos as needing to have enough to give me a reason to buy it. It's why the Ape Escape demo works so well for me. It provides two whole levels plus a few training levels. It lets you try out some of the game, but not too much to spoil it.
I've played demos that have lasted only a minute or so or time you out after 5 minutes, and those are irritating.

Yeah the PS2's backwards compatibility isn't perfect, sure it's like 90+% compatible, but some games don't want to run well even though it is basically running on original-ish hardware.

This was definitely the reason I got Tony Hawk. The other disc you were referring to were the Playstation Underground discs. Those were also goated. But dont play the Viewtiful Joe one with your memory card attached, it will delete your save files. Trust me, I will never forget how I lost my save for FFX and other games as well. Sad day.
