    So much hate for Pearl Jam... They're one of the best rock bands of the last 30 years, period. They've sold millions of records, never broken up, appreciate their fans, done a crap ton for charity, and continue to fill stadiums. People calling artists "sellouts" just because they made it big are delusional. Although their sound has matured over the years, it's still easy to recognize any of their songs as Pearl Jam. I imagine most people who hate on the 90's rock are 80's hair hardos. To each his own, but I agree with Chris Cornell: "I don't care if I never hear a person write another song about a stripper or a motorcycle again, I don't care. It's not exciting to me."

    In 1991, "Ten" changed my life forever as a teenager. I've probably listened to that album more than any other. "Vs" hit, and I wore that CD down the bone in similar fashion. "Vitalogy" came out, and I really enjoyed it, but not to the extent of the previous two. After that, I never bought another PJ album, not because I had a problem with them or anything, but the music didn't resonate with me like the early days. A band has a right to explore and change their style (and a lot of times, it's necessary to stay relevant), so I don't begrudge them that in the least. But for me, personally, it just doesn't get better than early-90's PJ. The Hendrix-like riffs mixed with teenage angst and aggression, that's the gold.

      Also has a lot to do with growing up, childhood, the music that did strike a chord with you. And I agree with you. Even though I see it in the same light as what you read all over YT, ppl glorifying for example the 80 as best era in music , cause being a child...then, with no mortgage , family life and so on. I grew up. As did PJ, the albums they make still mean something to me , and I play those early albums with a smile to my kids. I go see them life still ,and sure not the same youth- like passion, or hair lol, or as you say teenage-angst and aggression. but just as passionate and intense. But they grew up, As did I. PJ forever.

      Ha! Same with me. Ten and Vs are the only albums I ever cared for. I was probably about 15-17 years old at the time when those were released and impacted me hugely. Then I moved to college and completely never cared about Pearl Jam’s new music anymore. I did like Eddies into the wild though. Maybe because meantime I had moved from my native country Poland to Alaska and it woken up some old music fascinations. Brought back memories, sentiments.

      Cool. I’m the opposite, i really dig their mid-period albums No Code(‘96), Yield(‘98), Binaural(‘00) and Riot Act(‘02), all pretty solid rock albums in my book. Certainly not as popular or as influential as those first 3, but still pretty solid.

    • @thatf_inguy8220

      Its not just the music that changes. You change as well. PJ in the early 90s captured the mood of many young people, which is why it resonated so well. Those people grew up, and the next generation of young people had their own artists which resonated in their own way.

    • @STONESGAM
      @STONESGAM 2 года назад

      Lol. They've been rich since their mid twenties. They have their own plane. Eddie Vedder has a mansion in Seattle and a place in Hawaii and may have a third place. He is worth $80 million dollars. I'm not saying they didn't earn that but let's be real here.
      It's easy for Pearl Jam to support all of these far left leanings causes when they are far removed the problems of the common population. If they didn't care about money he'd give away most of his money. He also married a younger model which is the classic rock star move. It's easy to not care about money when you have it in abundance and only need to play a handful of concerts to earn more than most will make in a lifetime.

    I have read some comments talking bad about a legendary band! Nirvana actually said themselves that the band that inspired them the most was Green River, which was one of Jeff Ament and Stone Gassards earlier bands. Pearl Jam wasn't anything like Nirvana, I don't understand why people always go straight to that. Pearl Jam has never sold out, and has always stayed true to their fans. Pearl Jam has put out many records and are still putting them out today, not only that but they are still touring and sell out every show! The truth about Pearl Jam is they are great musicians and Great perfomers! Love them or hate them, they are in the Rock N Roll hall of fame and they are one of the Greatest bands of all time!

    • @akasgsvirgil9503
      @akasgsvirgil9503 4 года назад +3

      There is no debating Pearl Jam's success. That makes Pearl Jam one of the most successful bands of all time, which has is distinctly different than being one of the "greatest bands" of all time, which Pearl Jam is decidedly not. Examples of the greatest bands of all time would include the obvious choices.....Led Zep, The Stones, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Hendrix, The Ramones, The Beatles and so on. What made them great was their power to define an era or be the defining force in a particular style of music. Pearl Jam was none of those. Yes, their music has proven to be popular and that popularity continues to this day. Yes, they rose to popularity within the grunge scene. However, Pearl Jam's emergence during the grunge era started out magnificently with the Ten album, which, in my opinion, was one of the greatest debut albums of all time. But, they became too pretentious too soon. Meanwhile, bands like Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Jane's Addiction and many more all defined their particular space in this controversial thing called "Grunge."
      Here's how to bring the definition of "great band" into relief. Play a random song from an established great band like Led Zep, The Beatles, The Stones, The Doors etc for any random person and chances are pretty good, they'll recognize the band. They probably won't know the name of the song but, they will probably recognize the band. Here's the clincher. Ask them what that music means to them? What do they think of when they hear this music? Some likely answers would be "the 60's" or "my parents" or "older brother/sister" or high school etc. This is because most people have some sort of connection to music, whether they're into music or not, especially if it played a role in their lives while growing up no matter how small that role may have been. In other words, few people outside of Pearl Jam's fan base will hear a Pearl Jam song and think of a particular era or point in time. To put in bluntly, most people don't think of the 90's when they hear Pearl Jam.
      Now, do the same thing with Pearl Jam. How many of those people do you think will recognize a deep track from any album Pearl Jam has released in the last 25 years? Few, I'll bet. Fewer still will likely associate Pearl Jam with the era in which Pearl Jam initially became popular. They may recognize Eddie Vedder's distinctive voice. But, that's about it. Outside of Pearl Jam's fan base, few associate Pearl Jam's sound with the 90's or the whole "grunge" movement. There is nothing about Pearl Jam that transcends the overall population like these other bands. Yes, Pearl Jam is deeply popular within their own fan base. However, outside of their fan base?
      But, at the end of the day, most people have been programmed to measure a band's greatness by the size of their success. If that was a valid method, then, bands like Creed and Nickelback would be considered "great bands."

      @@akasgsvirgil9503 I'll be back to speak with you on this interesting and honestly pretty sensible. I like pearl jam but I breath chris cornell. I'd love to hear half those people you named sing slaves and bulldozers like chris in his prime, maybe Robert plant in his prime. His head and mixed voice where incredible in the 70s and 80s but chris pushed his voice just as far, but in a different way. All the guys in that scene pushed each other by creating the best possible music they could, not like new artists who lay in mediocrity together. So what about after the 2010s? I dont know of any bands that meet that criteria maybe 5 finger death punch but they've been around a while

    • @christianeflentie1228
      @christianeflentie1228 4 года назад +1

      Ticketmaster did more to screw up their separate tour than people know. They made equipment unavailable, ticketing impossible. They are the devil. But I watch Stone and, I think Jeff, in front of the senate. (I'm sorry I'm really tired. Normally I'd be sure.) Our US Senate patronized the shit out of them calling them sweet young men and crap. And could they please get an autograph for their kid, etc. It was bullshit. Politicians belong to the people who payed to put them there. Pearl Jam has no choice but to fight the best to work with them as they are now. There was some numbnut congressman from Tennessee or something trying to pass a bill making tickets transferable this last year. Pearl Jam stood up and said no because that puts them in the hands of the brokers. This idiot called them sweet misguided guys that didn't know what they were talking about because they were just musicians.
      As my dad always said follow the money... Ticketmaster owns not just venues....

    1. Vs.
    2. Ten
    3. Another 37
    4. 26 more
    My phone rings with "Breath"
    6. All the f'cking covers they ever made.
    Should I mention the side projects or really stick with 1 song?

    I don't understand how you could consider it appropriate to end this video where you did. I was enjoying the content. But PJ reversed their stance on videos, first with the the Todd McFarlane "Do The Evolution" and later with less inspired visuals to correspond with tracks from Riot Act and the self-titled album. Also, a look into the Roskilde Festival tragedy and the band's reaction to it should have existed.
