I got a 7116 from a friend to test with my new 28" 4K HDR monitor, incredible look compared to the slim with 1080p , but also incredible noise. Got me the 7216 on a 300 bucks deal and had both models to test the same like you, couldn't believe that its true, difference like day and night. But I had the feeling the 7216 got slightly hotter due to not cooled down by a jet turbine.
I feel that the 7200s fan just doesn’t spin as much as the older revisions. I don’t mine that it runs hotter as long as it doesn’t actually overheat which it doesn’t.
@@racerboyo Thats true, in another vid someone measured the temperature from the CUH-7200 Series and it was slightly under 70°C. That are temperatures I dream for with my gaming laptop under stress.

The fans aren’t specific to a model number and it’s random which fan you end up with which explains why my 7015 has a Nidec fan and the 7215 in the video has a delta fan. Same goes for the new PS5 and with that system there’s 3 different fans.
@@racerboyo yes my 7016 have a nidec fan... And i bought 7216 but fan have a coil whine the console it's new i'm afraid that over time the noise will increase

Just saw this video, wanted to echo your point about replacing the thermal paste on the CUH-7015. Microsoft put a very effective vapor chamber copper heat sink in the X1X while Sony put a decent standard copper heat sink in the Pro. The main issue with the older Pros is the terrible stock thermal paste and thermal pads. Changing the stock thermal paste and pads on the older Pros fixes the loud fan issue and the 7200 is pretty quiet out of the box. If your Pros fan noise bothers you I highly recommend changing the stock thermal paste and thermal pads or trading your existing pro in for the 7200 model.
Racer Boy ... A lot of people don’t want to crack open there model and risk damaging it... Plus it will void any warrantee... 7200 sounds like they way to go ...
There both good but I think the CUH 7015 is built slightly better internally due to it having an extra metal shield on the APU. However If you can get ahold of one the PS5 is definitely the PlayStation to get as it plays almost every PS4 game is performance is significantly better. The PS5 is also quieter than every model of the PS4.
I have the original 7015 and it has the nidec fan. I took it apart yesterday to clean it because it was so loud and it made a slight difference. Nothing crazy though considering it took me two hours to get it done.

I have the 7016b been playing God of War actually... It is noisy sometimes but if it really bothers me then I just stick on the headphones, I would be interested in the 7300 whenever that comes however it will probs be time for PS5 soon enough with backwards compatibility.
@@racerboyo yeah they could move from 16nm to 14nm which would cut power consumption a bit like 20-30w. To get it real slim like the XO X they would have to put in a vapor chamber cooling which would add cost sure but offset that via being slimmer i.e less materials. Mind saying that I think PS5 will have vapor chamber so maybe they will have it on the slim pro because having a similar design saves on costs.
7015's disk drive sounds like what i would hear in a normal pc drive, uncontrollably spinning... off the shelf pc part maybe? and 7215's disk drive sounds like my ps2 slim lol
The drives in most if not all older PS4s sound like that when you first turn off the console or with the first disk you insert when it’s turned on. It’s also loud like that when installing the game on all PS4s. As for it being off the shelf the PS4 disk drives are custom made by Sony. Sony has been using custom drives since the PS1. I’m glad you noticed the drive difference because no one else seems to notice.
Changed the pads & paste on my 7015b a few months ago. The map menu on ‘Days gone’ was the last straw 😂. It’s a lot quieter , but now I’ve gone the extra mile and cut out a circle directly above the fan case & installed a dust proof filter on top . ( got a cheap cover replacement from China , as not to ruin the original case) air intake is far better, and the power pack is slightly warm ( NOT hot like before ) and because it stays cooler , I find the fan doesn’t need to rev up now.

Hi everyone. I just launched my first game on PS4 Pro 7216B and my attention was caught by the specific buzzing sound from the inside of the console. Looking for the source of the problem after a minute, I found out that the coil produces such a sound and only in titles adapted to the Pro console. On my own example, I checked how the intensity changes when changing settings 60 / 30fps and whether the sound disappears immediately after closing the game. There have been many reports of this problem from PlayStation 4 Pro on the network and there is a small chance that after replacing with a new one, we will get equipment free of this problem, which is reported by others who have asked for replacement of the console several times. So I ask the shop for a refund and I'm saying goodbye to Pro version. I do not expect an answer to this post, I just want to warn other users that their problem is not isolated.
Its unfortunately a common issue for the 7200 revision. Most early 7000 units are fine but some can have coil whine. I also believe it’s rather common in the 7100 revision as well. Coil whine is also rather common in mid rage graphics cards. My R9 390 in my old desktop had some noticeable coil whine. It sucks but you can always exchange it at the store you buy it at.

My launch Pro was loud on MW 2019 in the menus and it always drove me insane. I know it’s still hard to find but the PS5 is worth the upgrade for the quiet fan noise alone.
bookerC64 bro I got the bundle with the ps4 pro so I think that’s the cuh 7215 cause it just came out not even 2 months ago but yeah I hear you modern warfare makes it relatively loud. I can’t hear it with my headphones on at decent volume about 6 feet away at all but when they’re off I can kinda hear it

The CUH-7000 is overall better built then the CUH-7100. It has a nice metal support plate that covers the back side of the APU and RAM. There’s some with bad thermal paste and pad application but for the most part I think the 7000 is the best Pro.
Andrei Toader I just looked mine is CUH-7016B aswell and playing any non enhanced games it's very quiet but playing pro enhanced titles makes the fans kick in, I heard God of War is the game to make it loudest yet I just got it and it's loud on the main menu but quiets down once I hit continue... weird? Detroit BH makes it loud but not as bad as some videos I've saw on RUclips!
I have to CUH7215 but for some reason mine sounds like a jet engine or maybe it’s because it doesn’t have enough space for airflow, because where I play is very cramped up maybe that’s why or I don’t know man by the way mines is used I got it from GameStop and maybe that’s why I don’t know
Most of 72XX models have coil whine and it can be really annoying. Once you have it you cannot forget it. I've just returned my item cause it really pissed me off.. It is hearable from a few metres with no problem, so there is many the same cases in net, some even saying that they've gone through 5-8 units and all had this problem. My colleague had the same problem and also returned his piece.. When there is silence it is hard to live with that noise.
And the sound is worse that normal fan noise. It seems that you have to be REAALLYY lucky to have this problem irrelevant. I, my colleague and one guy - 3 people - sth like 6 pieces of 7216B and none of them perfect and silent - one more silent than the other five.
7100 is fine no coil whine but when playing god of war and rdr2 its loud af! i might need to replace it with a paste and pads. i have a nidec any thoughts? Metallic or Paste?
I recommend either MX-4 or Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste and Thermal Grizzly thermal pads. Make sure the pads are only 1 millimeter thick. Liquid metal is great but risky. It can spill out on the board and destroy the system and it also slowly eats away the heatsink over time. It is however very good at transferring heat but personally I wouldn’t use liquid metal on a console. Quality thermal paste works just fine.
@@racerboyo That would be nice since I'm currently downloading Wolfenstein 2 and I guess both games (Doom) are pretty demanding. My pro sounds like a jet taking off while playing Doom.
Karazu X If you don’t mind taking the console apart I would highly recommend changing the stock thermal paste and thermal pads. It’s pretty easy and takes about 30-60 mins depending on your comfort and experience level of taking things apart. The Pro is easy because there are arrows that point to the screw holes and there’s only about 2-4 different screw sizes. If you have the time and tools I highly recommend it.
If it’s fan noise that goes up and down then yes a thermal paste upgrade would more than likely fix it. I’d also recommend upgrading the thermal pads for the ram modules.
Great question, but I can’t confirm or deny but I’d assume they are became the plugs are the same and the molding looks the same at a glance. I’ve swapped fans from different model PS2s and they work but don’t fit as snug.
Probably a better mother board and or APU if I had to guess. Digital Foundry’s analysis shows that the 7100 is actually the most power efficient Pro. The 7200 also is noticeable warmer to the touch when compared to my 7000.
@@racerboyo I think in order to use two prong cord in 7200 the power supply in the new pro has to be 250w max. The power supply in old pro is three prong and 300+ w. It's overkill. I would assume by the power supply the newer model is more power efficient
@@scalabrineplayoff3pt46curr7 yeah but if this new ps4 pro is actually getting hotter then they must have a limit on the fan speed/noise. Original ps4 pro probably has no limits
@@ps5stuffguy the fan probably is toned down due to the power supply not needing the extra fan power because it's a less threatening supply. Pushing hot air out of a machine is good thing
The B means it ships with a 1tb HDD. A = 500gb (most original models and early slims) B = 1tb (few original models, newer slims and most Pros) C = 2tb (as of early 2019 only the 500 million Pro)
It’s the original model and in terms of build quality it’s in my opinion the best model. If the noise bothers you and you don’t mind taking the machine apart you can always replace the thermal paste and thermal pads and while your at it give the unit a good clean. Once you do that you’ll have the quietist and coolest running PS4 Pro.
There is nothing big between those 2 interms of sound comparison. keep your decks clean for godsake ! the only reason why 7000-7100 series received so much false complaints were because they were older vs 7200 and more dust were stucked in the ones whose owners were shouting out loud. any ps4 pro regardless of it's CUH series, are same in desing and noise they are making... this is a false topic to even discuss...
@@cyberdejin that was exactly a point I was trying to make in 2018 about the 7200 model. If you kept it clean and changed the thermal paste and thermal pads you’d end up with a console just as quiet as the revised model if not more so.
They’re about the same and I wouldn’t say one is better than the other however if you are looking to by a Pro for whatever reason get a 7200 model since they are newer and likely have less use. But if I’m 100% honest don’t bother with the Pro and just wait to by a PS5 because it really is that much better. I managed to pre-order one and I haven’t touched my PS4 Pro since I got it. In fact I gutted the drive from the 7000 model pro since I have no reason to use it anymore. I know it’s an absolute pain to get a PS5 currently but trust me it’s worth the wait.
2016: 70XX 2017: 71XX 2018: 72XX The last two numbers vary depending on what region you live in. For example in North America it’s 7015. All three models cool about the same however the earlier model tend to be a bit louder but even then that’s not always the case. And again I don’t really recommend the Pro anymore but if you’re going to get one get the 7200 since there newer.

The main menu on God of War makes my Pro loud if I leave it on awhile but as soon as I continue it quiets down which is weird as I'd think it'd get louder while actually playing?! Overall God of War doesn't make my Pro to loud (I read it's the game to really make it noisy!?) Detroit BH on the other hand makes it pretty damn loud! I hate loud consoles I hope we don't get noisy next generation systems?! PS my Pro is CUH-7016B
If the fan noise bothers you and you don’t mind taking the system apart I would highly recommend changing the thermal paste and thermal pads. My 7015 used to be a hair dryer before. Thankfully the 7200 is quiet out of the box and hopefully it stays quiet but only time will tell. I just wish both Sony and Microsoft would use higher quality thermal paste in these consoles and apply it correctly.
Racer boy Amen to that! I'd happily pay an extra £20/25 ish for better quality cooling solution to begin with and I'm sure most of us would agree, I'm praying Sony use high quality cooling in PS5 like One Xs vapour chamber? and like u say quality thermal paste. I wouldn't dare touch my Pro mate I'd break it, I wish I knew someone who was really good with this stuff and I could sort them a few £ out to do it for me and clean the heat sink while it's open I'd like, I'm sure it's probably dusty after 2 years?
It would be pretty dusty after 2 year and thankfully it’s very easy to clean the Pros fan. All you have to do is pop the lid off and you don’t even need a screw driver. The cooling solution in the Pro is actually pretty good it’s just the low quality and poorly applied thermal paste and tiny thermal pads on the RAM that make the fan spin out of control and while the vapor chamber in the X1X is very good and effective it’s also can get fairly loud because Microsoft uses even lower quality paste. My X1X got noisy on some games after 1 year as well, so I took it apart and found that the paste was completely dried out and from what I’ve seen the paste is dried out on even brand new Xbox’s. Overall I think the cooling solutions in both are great, especially the X1X but the crappy paste ruins both sadly. Hopefully PS5 and Project Scarlet are better but this was also an issue with the PS3 and X360 so will see.
i have standard ps4....when i was playing re2 remake demo this weekend it sounded like jim carrys most annoying noise in the world from dumb and dumber lol

Just trying to help people out. I currently managed to get my hands on a PS5 and may make some videos on it soon. Depends on how I’m feeling and if something needs to be covered.

The 7215b has the nidec fan where as the 7015b has the delta fan. You got it reversed. Thanks for the video.
The fans aren’t specific to a model number and it’s random which fan you end up with which explains why my 7015 has a Nidec fan and the 7215 in the video has a delta fan. Same goes for the new PS5 and with that system there’s 3 different fans.

To get it real slim like the XO X they would have to put in a vapor chamber cooling which would add cost sure but offset that via being slimmer i.e less materials.
Mind saying that I think PS5 will have vapor chamber so maybe they will have it on the slim pro because having a similar design saves on costs.

7215 Thank god I thought something was wrong with the disk drive xause it sounded different. Im glad its normal.

My R9 390 in my old desktop had some noticeable coil whine.

it’d be nice if you had a sound decibel reader
The one I have which is the 7200 actually does sound more high pitched
It most likely has the Delta fan if it sounds high pitched.
7100 is fine no coil whine but when playing god of war and rdr2 its loud af! i might need to replace it with a paste and pads. i have a nidec
any thoughts? Metallic or Paste?
I recommend either MX-4 or Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste and Thermal Grizzly thermal pads. Make sure the pads are only 1 millimeter thick.
Liquid metal is great but risky. It can spill out on the board and destroy the system and it also slowly eats away the heatsink over time. It is however very good at transferring heat but personally I wouldn’t use liquid metal on a console. Quality thermal paste works just fine.
Racer Boy thanks!

If you don’t mind taking the console apart I would highly recommend changing the stock thermal paste and thermal pads. It’s pretty easy and takes about 30-60 mins depending on your comfort and experience level of taking things apart. The Pro is easy because there are arrows that point to the screw holes and there’s only about 2-4 different screw sizes. If you have the time and tools I highly recommend it.
My CUH-72xx has weird constant noise spikes and is kind of annoying. does this mean I need to change the thermal
paste?
If it’s fan noise that goes up and down then yes a thermal paste upgrade would more than likely fix it. I’d also recommend upgrading the thermal pads for the ram modules.

Combination of fan, smaller power supply(2 prong), and maybe better apu or motherboard

In fact I gutted the drive from the 7000 model pro since I have no reason to use it anymore. I know it’s an absolute pain to get a PS5 currently but trust me it’s worth the wait.
What is the last year of 7016?
Thanks for your ans
Which model cools better?
2016: 70XX
2017: 71XX
2018: 72XX
The last two numbers vary depending on what region you live in. For example in North America it’s 7015. All three models cool about the same however the earlier model tend to be a bit louder but even then that’s not always the case. And again I don’t really recommend the Pro anymore but if you’re going to get one get the 7200 since there newer.
My ps4 pro 7016 is new. I bought today/Does Thermal Paste Expire?
Pro if your PS4 pro or any PS4 has loud fans it's probably because the CPU gets too hot, so a quick fix would he to add a better thermal paste.
Dirty fans and heat sinks are another reason they can get hot and loud.
Mate, mine was did cleaned and pasted thermal.. the sound more louder than new =.=''
The cleaner told me that because mine Pro has cleaned, fan is light, so that makes loud.. =.=''
But I don't think so. My Pro after 1 year i bring to dust clean, I don't think the dust will think as dictionary =.=''
Now days I play MHW, Division 2, the sound like Jet engine, Rocket launching @.@, GT Sport sometimes will, and other game too.. but I'm living in Japan, winter season, room temperature average 15 degree Celsius, when I going back to Malaysia, even I play light game, sometimes also will have little fan sound.
Does the jet sound can cure ? I found many from Google, even RUclips, but can't get a solution. Very annoy :( :(
I bought exactly the one with rdr2 and didnt even know I had a better one than the one from 2016...
Best is PC anyway... fcks me up that I have to buy a 450.- console on top although I have a 1.5 k PC to play rdr2 and God of war etc...
Wait, was this test the comparison *after* having applied the thermals on the old model?
Yes at the time of this video the new thermals were applied around a month prior this video was recorded. It’s still held up well to this day too and I highly recommend it to anyone with an older model Pro that’s OCD about the sound.
That's not fan noise that's coil whine and it's normal.
Got a pa4 slim new at same price with that of ps4 pro 7106b version. Not sure which one to get. As ps4 pro seems to be loud
I find that all the PS4 models can get loud but it depends on the game, dust build up, and quality of the thermal paste application.
