Looking at the new plans and listening to others it looks like size 5 or 6 turrets so it will be a target for a swarm of fighters like most Caps .

    The Polaris is designed to employ size 10 torpedoes, but I would be curious if she could carry a range of smaller torpedoes with different roles than the single anti-cap munition.
    My notion is that the gameplay role of the Polaris in fleet actions could be more interesting if the range of torpedoes was unpredictably diverse. Rather than the person in charge of the torpedo deck just undertaking the comparatively dull role of loading the tubes as fast as possible, there would also be the anticipatory gameplay of selecting the right weapon to load next. This might be a full 4x spread of the standard size 10, but perhaps each tube is loaded with different munitions - like smoke screens, clusters of small missiles, whatever.

    Real question: Is the Polaris actually a "class", in and of itself, as the vid title/description states?
    I would say that it is not, and that the Polaris is merely a model of "corvette class" military ship.
    Perhaps I'm wrong and military ships don't have "models", but are classes unto themselves? If that is the case, what word, instead of "class" encompasses "corvette", "frigate" etc., if not "class", in that case?

    • @Farrister
      @Farrister  Год назад +1

      I think class in this regard is the military idea of a group of ships following the same design. I think what you're referring to would commonly be called "Type". That of course is in Western/NATO terminology - other parts of the world do things a little differently.

    As a multi role ship, I feel that this ship is far too military, so civilian use is hard to figure. Perhaps as a Disaster relief or Rescue ship it might have a function. Or as a Law Enforcement back up ship. It definetly is a Group ship, not a solo vessel and it thus more suited to Org play and the scenarios Orgs can put together and role play for their memebers

    • @Stormyy6310
      @Stormyy6310 Год назад

      Exploration (best sensors in the game since it is the most modern ship of the UEE + hangar space for an exploration shuttle + ground vehicle storage), medical gameplay (carrack class bed so yes you can respawn + hangar which allows a med Pisces to fit in), trading (it's fast since it is a torpedo corvette), piracy (capital ship piracy even), resupply and repair of fighters (maybe) and a bunch of other things which do not need to be mentioned (ground assault so base capture, bounty hunting, rescue, blockade running..)but yeah it's a ship that needs a crew, but honestly it's the case for all capitals, you're not using any capital or even large ship solo

    • @jodofe4879
      @jodofe4879 Год назад +1

      @@Stormyy6310 It is not an exploration ship. The Carrack is the military reconaissance/exploration ship. The Polaris doesn't have the dedicated sensors and scanners needed for exploration gameplay since that is not its intended role. You could however park a small exploration ship in the hangar and use the Polaris as a mobile home base for it. So you could do some exploration gameplay in it, but not as well as with an actual exploration ship like the Carrack or Odyssey. Also, in the future, the tier 2 medical beds like those on the Polaris or the Carrack will no longer allow you to respawn. This change is probably coming with the introduction of the Apollo and tier 3 medical beds (which will allow respawning). So you could do some medical gameplay in the Polaris but not as well as with the Apollo. Its cargo capacity is small for a ship its size, so it won't be able to haul cargo very well. You could do some trading with high-value goods, but again there are better ships for that. The Polaris would probably too expensive and ineffective to use in such a role. The Polaris is a versatile ship, but it is very much a combat ship. It does any sort of combat-focused role (like piracy or bounty hunting) very well, but I can't see it having a lot of use outside of combat. It just doesn't have the cargo capacity or specialized equipment necessary to keep up with civilian capital ships or even large ships. Which is as it should be, because having a single ship that can do everything would be kinda OP.

    • @Stormyy6310
      @Stormyy6310 Год назад

      @@jodofe4879 You're right it is not its intended role however it is logical as you said that it cannot do everything better than dedicated ships, that's the thing with multi-role ships, they can never be better than dedicated ships, I didn't talk about it but you can probably even do passenger hauling maybe some high risk type of mission, sure it wouldn't be as profitable as doing it in say a 890J but still it can do it, I expect it to have between 90-150 SCU cargo so there is probably still profit to be made with it hauling, plus it's a military vessel so it can be threatening for pirates however I still think you are right, it's mostly a military vessel, this alone makes it potentially very profitable as a capital ship because as CIG said "high risk activities should get you more than low risk" so I see this ship excelling as a pirate organisation command ship especially since it is fast and can do hit and run tactics

      @0giwan I want the Perseus to be good but I don't think it will be. Even at taking out medium ships. The ship is also left defenseless against small craft and ordinance. And it's size 5 missiles are not going to be enough for a "frigate". I love the look of the ship, but its going to suck huge balls unless they find a way to fix a lot of the problems the current concept has. The Polaris on the other hand, I hate it's looks, but it's going to be a menace to the game. 28 size 10 torps! I'd be shocked if capital ships didn't tuck tail and run once that thing joins a fight.

At least the A/C worked....sort of. Also I have one "medium" computer, it's a 3rd gen i7 overclocked to hell and back, and it's a POS. I should know, I've been a computer tech for 30 years. I'm done. I'm now a crosswalk guard and as happy as hell. Fix your own sh$t...You can't pay me enough to go back. I believe in the project for sure, but for new players I recommend only dipping a toe in the SC universe. Buy a starter ship, nothing wrong with that, in fact it's actually better gameplay wise because you will feel a bit of accomplishment going from a base Aurora to whatever you feel you need to get to. You've always, to your credit, recommended this which I agree with you. Keep rockin' on Farrister. You're a good man.

      Chris I can't honestly say I followed your entire comment lol, but I'll go ahead and agree with your sentiment that people only need a starter ship to get going!

    The Polaris will most likely also be used as the flagship of a versatile combat focused small group of players. It offers so much utility, safety, and versatility. It can protect itself from fighters with huge shields, relatively thick armor, and missile batteries. It can punch hard against larger enemy ships with a salvo of 4 giant torpedoes, or use those launchers to bomb ground targets. It can carry a ground vehicle and/or large quantities of valuable loot. And you can take along a fighter, or a utility ship to further customize your mission.
    For example, if a group of combat oriented friends just want to go explore Pyro, the Polaris would be a great choice of ship. Enough armor and firepower to defend from pirate fighters. Room to store loot you got from raiding and pillaging. Huge torpedoes to bomb entire outposts, or fend off larger ships. It's relatively quick for a capital ship, and it has powerful sensors. So it is likely you can ambush or avoid ships same size or larger than yourself, while being well protected from fighters.

    All of the specs listed here are already outdated. CIG has given us details on exactly what got bigger and we know for sure they have grown from large to capital class. All this was mentioned in the video "finding the north star" released by CIG. Linked here, at 8:34 or so: ruclips.net/video/n1Fjctpk2qU/видео.html
    The guns on the turrets have very much grown with you can see in the video. It's very obvious they are not size 4s anymore based on the scale vs the people in the video. Exact sizes where not discussed by CIG but they are at the very least bigger. There's no way those are size 4s. The scale is far too off for that.

      @Farrister  Год назад

      Covered this in the intro - lots of conflicting info out there, and much seems subject to change. I actually noted the potential changes from the North Star video on the slides, but it wasn't clear which components might be to capital, and how many of them. So just covered off the last facts for now.
