I didn't mind the rambling.. Actually liked that part of this. Your board definitely has the flavor too.. Looking forward to the next beta batch to hit your ebay store! I've seen other RPI Jamma joints in the past, thought they would be interesting to mess around with, but nothing really grabbed me till seeing this one. Good stuff
If still available, I am seriously considering buying one. I have been considering getting a MiSTER FPGA with a JAMMA connector, but I am not rethinking using Raspberry PI. I also like supporting projects like this one because it is obvious that individuals are making high quality devices.
Really cool project! I'm intrigued by the way you're handling the controls. One thing that's turned me off of pi emulation is the input lag I've noticed. I also appreciate the fact that you make this board easily serviceable by the user.
I'm thinking about trying this. I already have a couple of other Pi to JAMMA adapters, but yours seems more solid. Especially with the documentation, which others lack. I'm still on the fence...
So I just got a Rush 2049 that has the jamma harness and all. Have a pi already. Is it really just as simple as sandwich the pi and adapter together, and attach jamma harness?
In most cases, yes, it's that simple. However JAMMA standard assumes 2 joysticks and buttons, and cabinets like Rush 2049 are only partially JAMMA compatible because of the controls.
I have an Arcade1up partycade that I turned into a jamma 60n1. If I buy your converter can I just plug the pi into the jamma harness and straight swap it out for the 60n1?
Most likely yes, though it depends on the conversion. Usually those conversions aren't exactly 100% JAMMA. You may need to tweak your video setting to match the monitor. The images I provide are set up for standard resolution CRT arcade monitor. If you have an LCD in there, some settings will need to be changed for sure.
@@pcbjunkie1 So are you saying one adjustment to get everything lined up right or are you talking having to readjust the screen before you play each game?
I'd be very interested if I could use this for chamma, but I doubt this would support that. I have a chewlix that I'd like to use a pi in. I don't see this product on your ebay page by the way. I could possibly use a chamma2jamma adapter with this.
Cool stuff. Was looking to get a pi2jamma premium for a cocktail table build but picked one these up instead. One question, what is vr4 for? Is it possible to increase video amp levels? The cocktail I am working has its original monitor (capped) but is very dim with a cheap 60 in 1 and looks fine on a BitKit v2. It'd be nice to be able to adjust levels without having to mess with the monitor. Thank You for taking shutdown into account! It's great to not have to spend money on a pi ups just to get a proper shutdown.
Thanks for your support and your feedback! No, there is no video amp on the adapter. I found that it wasn't really necessary, but as you said it may require brightness adjustments on a dim monitor. The pot is volume control. I will label it on the next revision of the adapter pcb. :)
@@pcbjunkie1 The only real use case for video amp is in a multi board setup where a jamma switcher is used and monitor adjustment isn't really feasible between games. If it's the sole board in the system then I'd just adjust the monitor to it. Even without, most boards put out good video signals and a $30 60 in 1 board is probably not a good measure of anything, it's just the only thing I have ATM until the PJ arrives :). I really appreciate the lower cost and repairability of the board!
Yes, 15khz analog video through JAMMA is the default, but you can also run medium (24kHz) and high resolution (31kHz), or any other modern video mode through the built in D/A converter.
I hope someone comes up with a straightforward image that boots with a black screen straight to a single rom. It would allow this to be a direct replacement for a dedicted pcb.
For sure. I'll probably do this soon, the only issue is compatibility. Some MAME versions work better with some games than others, so there would need to be a way to pre-configure the image for the correct emu, video mode and orientation, and some experimenting would likely be required.
@@patricksamuel6594 I'm going to say probably not. Video over GPIO is unique to the raspberry Pi as far as I know. I looked at that board briefly and couldn't find anything that would suggest it has that capability.
The resolution is pretty much fixed here. Only horizontal pixel size/count/timing can change. This is for compatibility with standard definition arcade monitors.
It does work with a Pi 4, although emulation on the 4 isn't as fluid for some reason, and 3 is still the best option as of this moment. I'm in southern Ontario.
It does, as long as you can wire JAMMA to VGA somehow. There is no direct VGA port on this. You could also just use HDMI to VGA and do it this way. Default out of the box is CGA (low res) over JAMMA, anything else and you'll have to make some config changes to the image.
Wow I was thinking of attempting to build something like this and here I see it's already done. Great work

This looks amazing! I just ordered 2 from your eBay store :) One for my horizontal and one for my vertical cab.
I’m still rockin those pi to jamma adapters. Where the new stuff pcbjunkie?
I've been working on a bunch of stuff. I'll post something here soon.
With the custom images for the SD card, is it possible to silent boot directly to a game with this set up?
Sweet device by the way.
Hey, thanks! Yes it is possible to do that. Check out my other video on the new images.

I am getting start.elf issues with your premade images on a pi4....do the images need updating?
Which image specifically? Yes Pi4 hardware needs updated kernel, but I have those images. Email me for support.

Do I plug joysticks in raspberry pi?
Have 4 player pcb

The single ROM image is done. Check out my other video on it here: ruclips.net/video/ZalAhm8yDe4/видео.html
very nice!
Hello, great stuff here. Is this available? The website is not connecting. Thanks
Can i plug in my Raspberry pie 4? If so, where can I purchase this ?
Excuse me, It´s for raspberry pi 4 too?
Nice one.
How can I purchase one
Where can I buy one of these?
How many bits per color does it have? 5-6-5?
That's correct, it's 5-6-5, 16 bits per pixel.
I know it says only three images work, but I really wish I could run Twister OS
Does it change resolutions on the fly?
The resolution is pretty much fixed here. Only horizontal pixel size/count/timing can change. This is for compatibility with standard definition arcade monitors.
Is this for-sale yet? I didn't find it in your Ebay listings.
The first batch sold out. Waiting on more parts and will make more. Should be available in a couple of weeks.
@@pcbjunkie1 Ok, thanks. What were you roughly selling them for?
