- EJ clearly doesn't have many ways to play video games on CRT televisions and has to come up with another way to play on his Scart modded crt 13 inch Samsung tv. Finally he can play retro games and watch Anime Waifus. Watch him connect a Raspberry Pi 4 to a CRT and make it the ultimate retro media center!

man, you inspired me to hook up a crt and rewatch the entire fellowship of the ring on it, and it's amazing!!
I’ve been getting into the habit of just having it play at my desk while I edit videos. It’s super comfy
I've been using the JAMMA version of the RGB-Pi in my Neo Geo cabinet for playing older arcade games and it's been fantastic. Super easy to get it set up and everything looks and feels very authentic.
Do you get and sound issues or lag on any of the 2D MAME games, I've noticed some in very basic 2d beat em ups that seemed odd given they aren't that intensive
@@Teckno77 I have not experienced any issues like that. It could have several causes though. Older versions of the Raspberry PI are not very powerful and can struggle sometimes, even with basic games. So if you're using one of those, try upgrading to at least a pi 3. Make sure you're using a power supply that's providing enough power for the pi, as well as that you're using a heatsink for the CPU. Otherwise, the CPU might throttle and cause performance issues. Hope this helps!
I love the ej solo videos. Keep em coming dude
This sadly wasn't showing up on my recommendations. I love these videos EJ! Once I move to a new place I am totally setting up a crt and either this or a mister
When EJ called me a filthy beast I was deeply ashamed of myself for lying.
Were all dirty rom hungry digital filth and we know it. Do you really need all of those 10,000 rom's? ...no. But it feels good :D
I'd be too lazy to do stuff like this myself, but I'd listen to EJ explain anything.
Great watch, nice job EJ
This cable is the best !!!❤
Maybe I’m just stupid, but I was hoping that by 2024 setting up a Raspberry Pi would be easier.
First and foremost, you are NOT stupid, I promise. So don’t worry about that.
Second, and you’ll have to trust me on this one, projects like this always appear way more complicated and intimidating when you’ve never tried tackling them before.
But you’ll never learn until you try! So if you want to try this yourself, I encourage you to follow your dreams!
@@HowdyFolksGaming hey this is the internet, cut it out with all this positivity.
Trust me, it's Very easy to set up. Follow the video and take your time
Nice work, EJ.
I have a pi with a corrupted Sd card. This is motivating me to reformat it and hook it to a TMNT branded 13’ CRT to play old Saturday morning cartoons on it.
Awesome Vid, Guys!
Thank You very much for Your Work! Greetings from Germany
Random youtuber makes a video about SCART gaming: not interested.
EJ makes a video about SCART gaming: yummy yummy!
To me, EJ is the random youtuber.
There's my sweet Sunday content.
Thank you very much for the guide
Love this video.
wow, even owning a mister i find this totally dope!
My setup is a pi with a aux to component cable. You plug the component cables into the headphone jack and it surprisingly works just fine. The cables I used were originally for the Zune, haha. Wish I had a scart TV though
I have the av cables from my old iPod video and I use those 😂
EJ, that shirt is tremendous…I likes it, and I wants it
That guncon2 option is pretty sweet ngl
Do you know how to get boxart for games? I remember older version of rgbpi having option of scraping but not finding it anymore
yayaya good video!
Must I have that cable from video? I installed RGB-PI on my RPI4 with VGA666 + SCART converter, but colors are weird and I haven't found in menu how to set a specific connection type, only monitor type (I use Sony PVM). Recallbox had an awesome picture with it, it didn't matter if I choose VGA666 or RPI2SCART.
I just ate an apple and raspberry pie 🥧
Not quite as rad as your Pi, but it was still satisfying.
You are on the web ;)
Wonderful! I love the cable and the OS! Use it a ton
That’s nice, but can you emulate in the Raspberry the electrons moving through reality?
You can use a keyboard to setup and control KODI and help with the initial setup.
Is there a component version?
I’m a simple man. I see a Red Cow video…I watch video.
Does anyone know in which folder I have to put naomi and atomiswave roms?
How do I fix the high frequency noise from my crt?
Was not expecting Jason Graves to pop up in the video 😂
The actors are all visible in the shot, what else do you need?
the tv has some distortion on image?
Does it support Sega 32X and Sega CD?
Careful with them big ol CRT monitors, EJ, don’t wanna get yourself Pikachewed!
I can't get this new OS to run any PS1 games! All other systems are fine, but PS1 simply boots me out before they even start. Anyone had a similar issue?
grat video, for best effect watch at .50 speed
Great isn't it, I also have a mister and for 16 bit and below it's just as good as the mister.
Does it work with Pi5 yet?
Interskate 91 ftw!!!
I love the RBG Pi but I could only get it to work on a 3B+. The Pi 4 version of the software won’t successfully flash my microSD. But it’s awesome and the software is pretty good.
You try on the Pi? Maybe just fail the verification but is burned fine, jump the verification stage.
@@aaaalexisss not quite sure what you’re suggesting I do.
Could I do this on my CRT which has component? It's very hard to find a CRT with SCART in the US.
You’d need a transcoder like the retrotink scart to comp: www.retrotink.com/product-page/rgb2comp
Aren't there a few good ones on Amazon for lower price?
bought all this kit set it up , working on monitor, plugged it into my crt..... gArBLeD OUT OF SYNC FLICKERING , works for a few seconds then... getting progressively worse for about a minute then i unplug it. and zero support on it.
ah bummer. What TV are you using? I was thinking about doing this but a handful of comments saying the same type of thing as you.
I could watch 12 hours of EJ messing around with emulators lol
atari tüplerinde çalişırmı?
At 4:23 it shows your IP address at the top of window while you were connecting to the device. Thought you might want to blur that out as well.
I wish I could see this for a TV with just RF/Coax and have a good image :((
Why isn't th;is video in 4:3 standard.. definition
have a difficult time justifying downgrading and paying for another pi4 when I already have pi5. Sad it takes so long to make rgb-pi compatible with pi5.
Interskate 91!!!! Wow, they still exist!
Somehow recession and Covid proof
This has noticeable interference, wavy lines visible on my 29” Trinitron. I also have 21” and the interference is less visible, but you can see it close up. Disappointing really, they should’ve use shielded cables.
I dont know where u get ur roms from. Bc i dont or have never downloaded a rom. Sooo.. i didnt ask. But i also wouldnt mind knowing, since u assumed i would know.
Stop lying.
Nice try EJ. But you have to take a note from the My Life in Gaming Guys. You have to spend close to a grand to turn the back of your TV into a Frankenstein's lab of wires and doo-dads in order to get a slightly better red pixel sheen in the upper right corner of your SNES version of Super Tetris 3. Again, nice try.
Cant tell if sarcasm or elitism.
The 8GB model seems a little overkill for this
I want to try this for watching old anime like dragonball on a CRT.
EDIT: Holy cow the interference is insane. Gonna try something else, this is completely unshielded.
Yo, I need help. This is one of those things that stresses me out to the point that I can't even really contemplate step zero (research). I own an HD LOWE 32 inch CRT beast with component AND VGA in (for God's sake!). Stopped working. I have the money to fix it, I don't care the cost, but there is no one willing to even look at it, which I understand but still this thing is beauty must be saved. I've concluded that I'm going to have to be the one to fix it, but the idea is so ridiculously daunting that I straight up have not the gumption. It's been sitting like this for over year, every time I think of it I'm filled with dread knowing that with each passing month it's likely damaging itself and my heart is buried further and further.
If someone could please just give me 10 steps. Buy this exact book... Register on this exact forum.... Buy this exact soldering iron.... And so on. Otherwise, this TV is destined to be e-waste, and my heart will be forever buried
This is amazing!! Is there anyone that can produce a simple Raspberry -PI unit with 150 games of MY choosing w/ whatever it already has that's plug in play simple & you can buy it ?? I seen some modded PS 3 with 10,000 games for $400..I can't make this neurological issues, at 46 w 2 strokes/ Bell's palsy/ 4 concussion I just want to play a bunch of games I love from yrs ago of ( PS I-2) on EASY level 🕹️👾
I just leave the light on your video Nuevo and online nice day so the wolf
Retro Pi gaming on my Critical Race Theory Ruth Gater Binsburg Pi?
🤣
SCART? be careful you'll get demonitized
Too bad it does not really work. I guess it works on a few select CRT:s only or something. I have a very basic RGB-enabled scart CRT and I just get a black screen and some flickering. Utter garbage. Cant believe I paid money for this shit.
RGB-Pi OS4 seems to have a very big downside. It is impossible to display a vertical game on an horizontal oriented CRT without getting interlaced video and flickering. I may have missed something but I could not found any option allowing to do that. This is a major downgrade compared to GroovyMame and Calamity switchres on a standard PC config.
Vertical games must be played on a rotated TV in order to display the game's true resolution.
