    Thank you for making this video Bob. well worth the wait!
    On the Software side of things i wanted to see if theres actual a diference between the retrotink Ultimate and the Pi2scart/ VGA solution As far as timings and resolutions are concerned.
    Now knowing that the other devices uses proprietary software, I sugested that you seperate thoses in the video the same thing you did on this one. Simply because there will be a more limited user based and will be easier to understand what is possible to do with a comum image VS proprietary Image.
    keep up the awesome work Bob!

    I recently purchased the RetroTink from Mike Chi, and its really good. Ive been testing it on a Commodore 64 monitor. Im using the Chroma/luma (S-video) and man it looks really good. I have not tested it on my SD sony with component, but Im sure it will also look great.
    It almost makes me want to put up my Original 16 bit and under consoles that are all hooked up with RGb in some way, and put them in the closet lol.

    Question you can hopefully answer here or in your software vid. I was thinking of building a Pi for emulation, but I would really like to play some of the newer retro style games like Sonic Mania and Shovel Knight (if possible?) in 240p on my BVM. Is there a way to play steam games on a Pi, or is there any other solution to play games like this? If not I'll prob just use a PC, but would like to use a Pi if possible.

    How do you install the Retrotink Ultimate? Does it just slot onto the GPIO pins? Any soldering required? Can't seem to find directions anywhere so I assume it's pretty easy.

    Hello! Is there something like RetroTINK 2X Pro but backwards? With HDMI input and YPbPr component video RGB output? I have a Raspberry Pi 4 (4gb) and would like to connect it to a CRT TV through its RGB component video input. I would like to be able to play the games in their native resolutions and automatically. What would you recommend me? Thanks a lot!

    How to i get the 3.5 jack to work on my crt I have the cable doesn't seem to work tho

  • @MakeItSo
    @MakeItSo 11 месяцев назад

    I realize this is an old video and receiving a response is a bit of a long shot but here goes. I want to add composite video output to my raspberry pi400. The pi400 board did away with any component video pins that were present for the 3.5mm a/v jack on the pi4+. Retrotink discontinued making the hat in this video here which adds component/composite/s-video through GPIO. Seems like some sort of GPIO hat is my only solution. I'm having a lot of trouble finding anyone who makes a hat similar to this. Curious if you have any leads, or know of any other solutions that would allow me to get component/composite video from my pi400, short of using an external HDMI>RCA converter. Which just feels icky to me. Any help or advice greatly appreciated. I've watched some of your videos dozens of times learning as much as I can. Some of my earlier videos are show off a CRT arcade cabinet I built.

    Anyone know why none of the options in this video seem to offer TOSLINK output for audio? Rpi's analog connector IMO is too noisy. I've even asked a maker of a TOSLINK add-on will his board and the PI2SCART be compatible and he doesn't think so because of the way the GPIO is handled or something like that.

    Using the Pi2SCART on my Pi3, but the RPi2SCART projects looks very interesting. Where can I get one of these or at least get some more information about the whole project? Is there a dedicated website or just those French forum posts?

    • @loloC2C
      @loloC2C 6 лет назад

      Only the French forum at the moment. I do have the RPI2JAMMA (same as the RPI2SCART but designed for an arcade cabinet) and I confirm it's an amazing piece of hardware combined with a custom distrib. The custom distrib is what makes it special imo since it allows for the use of custom modelines. Therefore the games you play will be displayed in their original resolution without distortion and the framerate will be closer to the original one as it's not tied to 320x240@60fps (no tearing as well). I do have both original PCBs and this and it's really hard to distinguish the original version from the emulated one unlike other common emulation solutions from China (like the Pandora's Box).
      The only downside is that you can order it only through the forum (and the waiting-list is quite huge) and unless you know someone in France you can't get one yet as they are only shipped to France (for the moment).

    Great video! What would you recommend to connect a Pi to an actual arcade monitor? I've a WG K7000 series monitor. Does such an adaptor work? From the look of it the VGA666 should, but the video mentions needing a sync combiner and they are waay expensive. Does a solution exist which just plugs into the pi and then straight to the monitor via a vga breakout cable?

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  5 лет назад

      If you already have a JAMMA harness, I'd just get a PI2JAMMA. As long as you use the right config files, it'll just plug right in and work.

    • @captjim925
      @captjim925 5 лет назад

      @@RetroRGB Thanks for the reply! No jamma harness I'm afraid. The monitor is just a straight WG with a 6 pin output header. I was going to use a mini-pac I have for wiring up the controls. Would you recommend getting a jamma harness instead?

  • @whyywhy

    Great video! Just wondering is the Pi2Jamma the only and preferred way to hook up a Pi direct to a arcade cabinet? Not sure if that should’ve been in the video or not... Is it still something to consider?

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  6 лет назад +1

      JAMMA is something that is COMPLETELY different and requires a lot more testing. Absolutely no place for it in this SCART video. That being said, it's a great solution and something I'd really like to explore in the future. Maybe a FullPC+JPAC vs Pi2JAMMA video?

    • @whyywhy
      @whyywhy 6 лет назад +1

      RetroRGB Gotcha! I didn’t make the “RGB Hardware Solutions” = SCART connection; makes sense. Weirdly enough, I’ve had parts for a full PC solution for years that I haven’t even opened (JPAC, ArcadeVGA) due to intimidation over the setup. I wanted to explore the Pi solutions first to see if that would suit my needs. Anyway, thanks for the reply and keep up the amazing work you do! =)

    Bob. What have you noticed regarding video quality? I have the gert 666 running to my 900 line bvm and the image looks soft compared to original hardware. Some emulators look better than others but none are very sharp

    • @riggel8804

      the nogolem i have tweaked the hell out of it in the retroarch settings. And in the config file. Everyone i talk to and every forum i go on they have different advice for how to get the image sharp and none of it makes a major difference. Some things help a little. The only major difference i have noticed is from using different emulators. Most the advice i get is from people who are not using a crt so i am not surprised they get different results. Have you been able to get an image just as sharp as as original hardware, ie megadrive, from your rpi to a professional monitor?

      @riggel8804 6 лет назад

      the nogolem yeah. I only use it for neo-geo and arcade games and the image isn't that bad. I'm sure the image is better than anything i saw as a kid. I think i am just going to put up with it. Does that neogeo connector on the RPi2Scart support cps2 extended buttons? I have a few db15 expanded neo geo connectors I use on my supergun so I can use my usb and sony ps2 sticks on it. I know the pi has usb it doesn't like my ps3/pc usb connection on my sticks. I have the Pi2Scart. It works but has issues with those presetup images. I love the PiPiggies image from arcade punks. Has a great menu system, plug and play, all the games you would want, and preconfigured for the ibuffalo controllers. However if you try to play those games even with a modified config file for the 240p resolution the games are all over the map in how they fit the screen. Each emulator needs timings. I keep hoping someone will come out with a patched image including games that works on these solutions. Smokemonster, can you hook us up?!

      Yes it does, on the RPI2Jamma you have a CPS1 type connector (with the exact same pinout), I'll check about the RPI2SCART and let you know as I think they are wired on the remaining pins of the sub-d15 but since there's no "standard" solution for a 6 buttons sub-d15 I don't know on which pins buttons 5 & 6 are wired.

      It can be the faster option, but not necessarily better. The fact that thousands of people are working on the exact same piece of hardware make it much easier to get community-maintained images.
