I got an Irish coworker upset once when I said The Irish and English are the same thing. I know they aren’t the same but to this Yank they kind of are. I think most English would consider people from the south and north to both be Americans. Yet they did have a deadly war against each other. Maybe the fact that I had both English and Irish grandparents contribute to my feelings. I don’t think I’ve seen records by any of those bands you listed.
Great to see the Spacemen mentioned! Saw them loads of times back in the day. My favourite band. The second album is The Perfect Prescription. There's also a cracking live album called Performance.

Pretty amazing how many incredible bands came out of the UK. If I ever get the American version done I’ll do this. 1 and 2 were a given then it gets a little crazy for me. Glad Sex Pistols made it, only 1 album but it is one of my most listened to albums, pure power

I don’t know why they don’t do an official release of the Beatles Decca Sessions. In fact they should do official releases of the Beatles rooftop concert, Beatles live in Japan, Ed Sullivan appearances among others.

The reason the Paranoid LP cover by Black Sabbath looks that way is because the original name of the LP was War Pigs and the record company told them they could not use that name so they changed it to Paranoid but kept the same cover with sort of a sworded war fighter on it.

I have that same 12" single of "Love Will Tear Us Apart." That record was involved in a cage match on my channel against The Captain And Tenille, who claimed that "Love Will Keep Us Together." I've never been able to figure out the affection for The Pogues....when I see or hear them I just see and hear a sad drunk. But obviously a lot of people love it. I wonder why you play 2nd Edition instead of Metal Box? I'd like to get a copy of Metal Box. Great album either way. I enjoyed the rundown.
I play 2nd Edition because it is easier. In regard to the Pogues, I guess I like sad sack music. I mean, Morrissey can be a bit of a sad sack. Though not a drunk one.

It's a tough one, can a band with just one album make my top 25? As much as I love the Sex Pistols, The Ruts and X-Ray Spex, they didn't quite make it, just too much competition who had a lot more music to offer, though of course Joy Division and Buzzcocks had pretty slim catalogs too -- but with all the singles and other things collected on boxed sets over the years, it was enough! I think loads of the best Smiths songs were B-sides for sure. I think all of their studio albums had too many dud tracks, but the killers mostly made of for the fillers. Agreed that Satanic Majesties was underrated. Regarding my list, I'd say overall objectively Beatles are the best. But as far as how much the music means to me, Sabbath edges them out. Richie, wasn't it easier to pick your 25 greatest UK bands rather than decide on your top 25 US bands? I don't know, but it seems easier for me and I'm as American as Uncle Sam. T- Rex's '' Electric Warrior'' has a fantastic cover photo, but the only song that does anything for me is, ''Get It On ( Bang a Gong). The other songs have an ''unfinished'' quality or sound like carbon copies of ''Get It On''. I love King Crimson's LIVE recordings from 1973-74, the album'' Red'' is not as good to me as, ''Starless and Bible Black''. A few of the songs from both albums come from live shows. The box set, ''The Great Deceiver'' contains Crimson at their best, live and improvising like The Grateful Dead from that same time period. The Mekons 1989 album, ''The Mekons Rock 'n' Roll'' is one of my favorites, they sound like a blend of The Clash and The Pogues.
Gang of Four, only accounting for their commercial success, especially in America. Cocoa tricked me again a few times as I was hanging on my front porch while watching your video.
Totally agree on Sandinista, though even those four songs (failures?) are interesting to me, part of the creative process and totally forgivable (forgetable)!
@@ashrobinson4604 At the most there is close to one side that I don’t like. I could say the same thing about the Beatles White album yet it is my favorite Beatles album. So, yes you are correct.
Actually that is not the case. Most bootlegs are unreleased music. Most people that buy bootlegs are fans of the bands and own their official releases. The Grateful Dead knew this and actually aloud a section for bootleggers at their concerts.
What about britpop? Not a fan? Some of those groups really stand the test of time especially blur and Radiohead. Even though you could say those two bands were smart enough and had enough talent to progress and survive past britpop.

The bands with most records sold are The Beatles, followed by Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Rolling Stones and this mean much more than a totally subjective ranking.
All the bands you listed but one made the list so I’m not sure of your point. Great albums and best selling are completely different things. There are great albums that didn’t sell and more terrible albums that sold millions.

You could say that Oasis is the best UK band ever, is your channel, you can say also that, but when you use such a title, personal opinions should not mind at all. And selling records are one pretty objective way to say which band are on the top and which are not. I don't like Pink Floyd at all, but I could never say that they aren't one the best uk bands. So the same is for you about Queen (and not only them).

Free did better here than Slade. Free did have a few hits here,
Hawkwind, The cult, The dancing did, Free, J. Tull, Siouxsie n the banshees. The Ozrics.....

Great list of awesome UK bands, and you're right, US marketing screwed up many an album cover.. The British ones are usually better !
I think the US Rolling Stones covers are better than the US Beatles covers.
Now that you mention it, I mostly agree. On Beggars, I like both covers.. The white UK is mint in my Stones collection

Richie, wasn't it easier to pick your 25 greatest UK bands rather than decide on your top 25 US bands? I don't know, but it seems easier for me and I'm as American as Uncle Sam. T- Rex's '' Electric Warrior'' has a fantastic cover photo, but the only song that does anything for me is, ''Get It On ( Bang a Gong). The other songs have an ''unfinished'' quality or sound like carbon copies of ''Get It On''. I love King Crimson's LIVE recordings from 1973-74, the album'' Red'' is not as good to me as, ''Starless and Bible Black''. A few of the songs from both albums come from live shows. The box set, ''The Great Deceiver'' contains Crimson at their best, live and improvising like The Grateful Dead from that same time period. The Mekons 1989 album, ''The Mekons Rock 'n' Roll'' is one of my favorites, they sound like a blend of The Clash and The Pogues.
Starless And Bible Black is great. Both videos were pretty easy but the UK was a bit easier.
too many great bands from the UK for sure... but I think I would have squeezed Squeeze in there somewhere... Cheers

Gang of Four, only accounting for their commercial success, especially in America. Cocoa tricked me again a few times as I was hanging on my front porch while watching your video.
I really like both versions of Gang Of Four.
I agree that Squeeze should have gotten a nod. IMHO, Squeeze is the Rodney Dangerfield of rock (new wave?).

Totally agree on Sandinista, though even those four songs (failures?) are interesting to me, part of the creative process and totally forgivable (forgetable)!

Actually that is not the case. Most bootlegs are unreleased music. Most people that buy bootlegs are fans of the bands and own their official releases. The Grateful Dead knew this and actually aloud a section for bootleggers at their concerts.
Phish also always allowed tapers and had a section for them.
@ I know of Phish but I’ve never heard any of their albums.
What about britpop? Not a fan? Some of those groups really stand the test of time especially blur and Radiohead. Even though you could say those two bands were smart enough and had enough talent to progress and survive past britpop.

The bands with most records sold are The Beatles, followed by Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Rolling Stones and this mean much more than a totally subjective ranking.
All the bands you listed but one made the list so I’m not sure of your point. Great albums and best selling are completely different things. There are great albums that didn’t sell and more terrible albums that sold millions.

You could say that Oasis is the best UK band ever, is your channel, you can say also that, but when you use such a title, personal opinions should not mind at all. And selling records are one pretty objective way to say which band are on the top and which are not. I don't like Pink Floyd at all, but I could never say that they aren't one the best uk bands. So the same is for you about Queen (and not only them).
