There are some great rap bands. Not surprised about #1 but for me, I just don’t listen to The Byrds, I use to have a lot of their earlier stuff but after their Notorious album I moved on. I think of myself as mainly a fan of British bands, but whenever I start making lists of American ones I always surprise myself at how many I like...probably a mixture of solo artists and bands to be honest. I'm a very late REM convert. Weather Report I need to get more of their classic records. I actually purged my copy of Heavy Weather a while back. The only two Doors records I've ever really clicked with are the debut and LA Woman, both of which are among my favourite albums of all time. Love that Sly Family Stone best-of. The drummer that played on 'Fresh' was Andy Newmark who was on John Lennon's last album. I saw him play live in Liverpool a couple years ago with the other guys from those sessions.

My deluxe version cd of The Doors, '' The Soft Parade'' has two bonus songs, ''Who Scared You'' and a song with Ray Manzarek on vocals, '' ( You Need Meat) Don't Go No Further''. Those two tunes were B- sides and are included on the compilation, ''Weird Scenes Inside The Goldmine'', the double album which was my introduction to the band when I was a teen. In a previous video you said that Weather Report was a Prog- Rock band, I agree 100%. I also agree with Miles Davis,'' Fresh'' is my fave Sly album. Signe Anderson, the lead female vocalist on JA ''Takes Off'' died on the same day as JA's Paul Kantner, just a few hours apart. Interesting choices. I agree with some disagree with a few but I like how unique your list was. Biggest surprise was the Byrds at number one. Im a big fan too. They tend to be a bit underrated these days but their mix of folk and rock was the start of an entire genre. I actually prefer their first lps in mono. To me they just hit harder in mono.
I think all rock pre 1966 should be heard in mono! Just my opinion.
Im not gonna nitpick everyone has their favorites and their reasons.
But for me nothing can touch the Velvets they were and still are to me the best US band ever.
The one I can never understand is the Beach Boys. Granted they were an excellent singles band. But for my money they never released a good lp. Not even Pet Sounds is good all the way through. Two great songs and whatever for the rest.
