I like a loose outline that I'm not afraid to free flow from. But I also always record our free flow pre show conversation too. Some good tangential nuggets which are born out of those moments can morph into full episodes. In the end though, I feel like the outline is still the way to go because it doesn't take as much time to script out yet, if you stumble upon something in the outline development that you decide is a "must say" kinda thing, you can make sure that it jumps out at you in Bold or Italic in your loose outline. Imagine you are free flowing and its going somewhere great but you look down and you see the bold reminder...you can Segway right back in..the best of both worlds. Who doesn't hate that moment that you are editing and your like.."dang it, I should have said this". You get this freedom but its like your on a podcast farm with 100 acers….you feel free but with distant boundaries. thanks again for all the great tips. love em. sorry I wrote so much...heck that was longer than my outline.

I first started with the outline style for my first episode but ended up taking sooo long to edit, since I usually get distracted easily, now I will try out with scripting, I feel more confident with that one and I feel I can make it sound more naturally, not like I'm reading, but I absolutely don't want to lose the topic and stay in silence for like 6 seconds until I remember what I was going to say hahaha
    This was really helpful, thanks!

Glad to hear you find this helpful! Scripting does help in staying on track to ensure that you cover all of your talking points. You got this! All the best to you and your show!

    This was really eye-opening.
I think practicing talking out the script (if there's time) can help scripted words sound more natural to get around the problem of it usually sounding stilted.

I discuss biblical principles and faith related discussions. I find outline and free style a good way to properly communicate to the audience. sometimes you are kneel deep on an outline and it just dawned on you some of your audience mind need a biblical context to make sense of what you are saying. Thanks for sharing from your wealth of experience

Thankyou so much. I would like to know if once anyone publishes their episode, would it be published instantly or the publisher like Spotify will decide if it should be published.

I have a small fun podcast that I do with a life long friend of mine. We do mostly a freestyle form. We'll have a topic we want to talk about, but I spend way too much time editing the podcast. Majority of the edits are removing the, "UMMMS, soooo, buts, likes, etc." Some of the time also comes from using a new DAW. Am I wasting my time removing those crutches? Shoukd I just be editing for content?

Only remove the ums and ahs if they're distracting, otherwise you can leave them in

@@Buzzsprout I spent some time making an outline this time. I definitely helped keep me on track, the episode was more fun, and it cut the edit time by like 75%. Thank you.
