Hey mate - a handy angle grinder tip I've found for cutting metal - get the diamond cutting disks. They're designed for cutting stone/ concrete, but they go through metal like butter and they have a waaaaayyyy longer life than those metal cutting disks that wear down in two seconds. I had to cut through a bunch of corrugated iron to make some raised beds, and I found the metal cutting disks basically wore down in one sheet, whereas the diamond disk happily went through about a dozen sheets with no real noticable difference in size. They cost more, but the added life makes them well and truly pay themselves off! Anyway, thought it was worth a mention. Nice vid as usual - I need to pick one of these hultfors up - looks super handy!
That’s a really impressive tool. If you went clear around the top of the 55 gallon drum without breaking that thing it’s more than impressive it’s amazing. Thanks Pete👍🏻
Don't think I've ever heard of Hultafors, but considering the amount of hard use you put that thing through and it held up that well, they are absolutely on my radar now and will be adding them to my Future Buy list. Come to think of it a tool like that is exactly what I need for upcoming projects. Thanks, Pete!
You seem to have settled in to the new place and much more relaxed. There was always a calmness in your demeanour but your body language shows some peace. I am happy for you.
I'd love to see, if possible and you think it's worth doing of course, Pete, a comparison of this Chisel knife with the Mora Chisel knife. Is one better? Does it even matter? Either way can't wait for the next video! I've only been subscribed for about a year but I love your videos!
Yes. The tradesman knives from Hulta are that good. I have two that I bought 11 or 12 years ago when I was a carpenter. Still in great shape. Two of my kids have a Hulta. Doing knife-stuff in the forest.
I have the Morakniv Chisel knife and it's just super handy to have around the workshop. In fact, I keep it in my toolbox right along with my other carpentry/utility knives b/c of how great of a tool it is. It probably gets used the most out of all the other knives I own I bet...
I live next valley from that little Hultafors town/village were the Hultafors thing started and happy to see they still produce quality tools that are shipped all the way to Australia.. Heja Sverige!! :)
Happy New Year! Thanks for that video. A tool like that could come in handy at any time. I got one of those green handled Hultafors knives on your recommendation & it is as awesome as you said, so thanks for that, too!
I love my Hultafors knives...super strong SK5 steel and super well designed. Try the OK4, it's a proper beater as well, scandi grind and 90° back plus a long tang like the GK knife. It's hard to beat that SK5 steel for shear toughness though. It needs sharpening often but its real easy to sharpen so that cancels out, otherwise...otherworldly tough.
love hultafors! i live in the countryside and their gk heavy duty is one,if not the, best cheap and solid knives.i bought 5 and they are all around my farm
Can you stop taking me down memory lane with all this incredible ff music I only have time for either gaming or bushcraft and you make it impossible to decide 😂
I bought a hultafors knife for £5 from my local DIY shop. It's takes ridiculous abuse and just keeps going. If they made a pocket knife I would buy it for sure. Really cheap and impressive.
What are other ways to pop that lid out of an oil drum..? I just bought my first house a couple months ago and I've processed a 50ft by 5ft high brush pile and I got a drum from a friend but when I went to grab my grinder, all I could find were the blades, handle and safety guard thing.. no grinder. Would a 3/4 wide rock/concrete chisel bang through it without mangling it?
It's interesting that the Hultafors version is actually ground on both sides, whereas Morakniv's chisel knife has an actual one-sided chisel grind. I wonder which one is actually more useful? It makes me kinda want to get the Hultafors one so I can compare them side-by-side.
I like chisel grinds when they're on the correct side (...looking at you Emerson) which the Mora has for a right-handed person. Makes for easy planing type cuts. So yeah, I'd prefer the Mora chisel knife, as it gives me one more tool to use. I have enough regular double bevel Mora knives to last me a lifetime, so a huzzah for variety!
Chisel on one side, they are used for prying/scraping/wood work/removing cement and grout dags off concrete leaving a flush surface, leverage to get underflooring thats stuck down to come up by prying from the wall... the grinding on both sides is actually a negative to what a Wrecking knife is used for.
Mora actually makes one too, it's sold here under bahco branding. I agree they are awesome tools I have 2 one I beat on and one for fine work. I've always called them wrecking chisels
Hi Cedric & Ada Gear & Outdoors, I found your link on Paddy's Potato Peelers, and subbed to you. Nice review for such a strange blade. Where in the world are you? Good luck with your channel. Have a great day and stay safe. James
Reminds me very much of a Rogan tool. I bought one on a whim and it’s replaced my hatchet on camping trips and around the fire pit. Great for batoning wood where a knife is... not great.
I've tested them against each other for edge retention, the hultaofors SK5 chisel knife scored a 1 on my test for edge stability, and Moras UHB-20 scored a 4. The steel quality of Mora is much higher, the Hultafors SK5 is very soft, I would guess below 56 HRC.
Yeah, Hultafors knives are a bit overlooked. I love the HVK - a little thicker than a Mora, but still cuts very well. There's also a video out in YT land where a guy tries to destroy a HVK and it just keeps asking for more... the perv. XD
Morakniv's version is better and just a little bit more expensive. But it's certainly a useful knife/tool, better than a "normal" knife for many heavier tasks. Also, next time you want to open an oil drum like that (or do something similar with a chisel/chisel knife), try a dead blow hammer. You'll be surprised how much of a difference it makes.
Had one in my toolkit for about four years. It's a great bit of steel, it's been used and abused, has a couple of tiny nicks on the blade, makes no difference still does the job. The Hultafors blade's I've used (never used the regular thinner blades just the HD blades) are very good. Great toolbox knives and great beginners bushcraft/outdoors knives.
Hello from Canada my Australian friend. Long time subscriber & fan of your videos. Just curious if you have used the Mora version of this tool & if so, which is your preference? Cheers.
Chisel shape but not chisel ground (with a flat back) so it’s useless for anything you would use a normal chisel for. Will be far more robust of an edge tho, so you can beat on it more but still has very little reason to grab that over a knife or over a chisel knife with a flat back
@@CedricAda Mines been really good on wood. Did a few edge stability tests for my channel, cutting into some tough plastic based floor tiles, it failed fast and scored very low, but the material is nasty stuff and only the best grade knife steels performed well at the test. M2, K390 and CTS XHP stood out.
Thats called a wrecking knife in Australia, you will find them in any tradesmen outlet most have bigger/longer blades for heavier work. Welcome to the wrecking knife club, knives designed to be used abused and thrown away :P
Why couldn’t I just buy a cheap or used wood chisel to open steel drums and grind one side to a knife edge and do the same thing? Many cheaper chisels use a decent grade of steel that would suffice. I don’t think I would be using a tool like this on a regular basis. Just something laying in the bottom of one of my many toolboxes.
I know this video is about a chisel knife, but you're really handsome. This is probably the best place to say that. Cause that CHISEL of a jawline! ... Okay, I'm done

Having worked as a foreman in construction for a few years I absolutely agree that doors in general are the worst. Everything from installing the locks to finding the right screws for lock cylinders, matching this with that, installing handles. Absolutely everything is garbage about installing doors. Oh you want some sort sort of automation? Something that opens with the press of a button? Well f**k you, no you don't. Locksmiths are wizards. Edit: yeah the hultafors knives are amazing.
Hultafors has a whole range of weird and awesome tradesman knives. Cheap too.
Not their axes, a bit on the expensive side.
I feel like you probably use your knives a lot more than your average aggressive internet survivalist.

Sometimes you realize something and you just gotta tell folks about it. I'm def gonna be looking this up tonight.
This has been on my 'gotta get one of those ' list for a few years.
I bought several of these to have around because of your channel 👍👍
I love Hultafors stuff, I wish it was more widely available in the USA
I live next valley from that little Hultafors town/village were the Hultafors thing started and happy to see they still produce quality tools that are shipped all the way to Australia.. Heja Sverige!! :)
I work in a knife shop in Australia that sells them, and we actually do sell quite a few :)

The only one I could easily find up here in Canada is a Mora. Chisel knife is one of those weird designs that happens to be incredibly useful.

So a big can opener? Check out both Hultafors and Mora professional lines, some odd knives, special for electricians, fish harvest, meat processing.
Can you stop taking me down memory lane with all this incredible ff music

Bahco makes one like that and one with a rounded end. I think they’re called demolition knives. (Models 2448, 2449 ?)
Thanks for sharing...
Much love from Switzerland
I have that same knife from morikniv . Great tool. Aww and locksmith love lol
Bro how do you not have more subscribers you are awesome!
Happy New Year, Pete!
I have a Mora chisel knife. I love it and have put it through some serious abuse. Very easy to sharpen as well. A real working knife
I thought Sephiroth was about to hop out with his sword when the music dropped lol
I was thinking a FFX song too.

Bahco do a similar one and also a curved tip version they call a wrecking knife.
I think mora makes one knife challenge them

Swedish tanto!😃
Why do people think that the cutting edge is damaged where its not used?
I wanna see what you're gonna use that wood for.
Mora makes one also.
It's a handy knife I have one, steel is soft as hell though.
good for opening giant cans, maybe not for the rop cut test 😄

Now play a drum solo.
