      Some forces do, some don't. In the force I'm in we are only allowed to use them "officially" in custody, because apparently senior leadership don't like the public perception of a bloke screaming and snarling in the street being restrained by officers with what looks like a tight over his head, only takes 1 pap to snap a photo and it's in the news, more bad press for the police. Unfortunately the job nowadays is more about "public perception" than "officer safety". It's "How would that look on the front page of a newspaper?".

    • @thefiestaguy8831
      @thefiestaguy8831 Год назад

      You're assuming too much. She probably is well known to social services. In the area I police in, there is a regular 15 year old girl, who calls 999 and asks for police, she will inform the control room that she's "going up to Scotland to sleep with older men" and a unit gets sent straight around to her address to stop her leaving, and usually they find her at a bus stop en-route to her house. One time she was found at an airport 60 miles away, another time she was found in Central London.
      The last time I dealt with her, she did the same, me and my colleague spotted her at a bus stop, as we got out of the vehicle she legged it, she wasn't quite fast enough and we dragged her back to the car and took her home. That time she had 2 big holdall style bags with wheels she was dragging behind her, and a handbag.
      We sat outside her house in a marked car for 30 minutes doing paperwork, sure enough she ran off again, caught up to her very quickly and bought her back home.....
      That is the reality of policing.
      "Leave her" you might say..... except she is 15, and therefore still a child in the eyes of the law, and given she openly said she was going hundreds of miles to sleep with older men, if we let her run off, and anything bad happened to her (i.e had intercourse and therefore statutory rape, as she is 15 she cannot consent to sex... Or had she been murdered) me and my colleague would both be down the job centre the next day as we would have knowingly let her run off, knowing she was going to essentially make herself a victim of crime.

    Toddlers push boundaries until you say no and stop the behavior. If you don’t intervene the child will continue to push boundaries with every adult they come across as they grow up. The police did a huge disservice to her by letting her go home the same night. That will only encourage her to believe that she is invincible and can you get away with anything. If she doesn’t come around God knows what will happen. I really do hope That someone helps her find a better path so she has a better life

    By her actions there is something clearly wrong at home. She would not have ran away for nothing. Some form of abuse had to have taken place no teenage would run away from a safe loving home. The Girls reaction to the officers, she clearly did not want to go back. To them they were trying to help her, to her she was being taken back to abuse, perhaps her spitting was a way to delay what she know would happen as soon as she got back home. She was heard saying why I would hate cops, so clearly had nothing against. I really hope they looked into this for her sake. The girl is a victim and now has a record. So sad.

    The general public not just this girl are having less and less respect for the police, mainly due to the freedom of which people who commit offences get before it gets serious. At the end of the day i understand different approaches to situations are welcomed such as in this case but proceeding without care to place others (including police) at risk should be seen harshly with a punishment that reflects the actions taken place. At the end of the day police are just normal people like you and I and have families to go home too, which some members of the public gravely disregard there job to protect the wide public and more often than not the offender from themselves. They make mistakes and when a fatal mistake is made they are treated just like anyone else committing the crime so its not the police as a wholes fault. Anyway that just my opinion but i do think today's society needs to look after there community including all walks of emergency services that if you like it or not are vital to the sustainability of our country and indeed world.
