After a hard day at work, my wife and I sit back and let Rick transport us to all the beautiful and exotic places we’d love to see! It has become a life-enriching experience for us🙏 Thanks, Rick💛
I am a Roman and love my city...we live daily, the ancient aspect along with modern times...all in one. You have created a lovely documentary Thank you.
@royalcrowify rome 2000 years ago was loaded with africans and midle eastern people, it was a multicultural city. How do u think they build the Colosseo? With slaves from africa
In Rome do as the Romans do ; and the world does . The magic of Roma , the capital of history and culture of the ancient times .It still works its spell on modern travellers !
A good rule of thumb if you want to avoid tourist traps in Rome: If a store, restaurant or cafe has ostentatious English signs or menus, avoid it. The best, authentic stuff, whether it's food, clothes, jewellry, pottery, etc. is found in places that are signed in Italiano only.
I traveled for other european cities like London, Madrid, Berlin, Amsterdm and Paris, but for me Rome is definitely unique. In Rome every stepwalk is a dip in the history of mankind, and you walk in streets and avenues from more than 2.000 years of history and enter in buildings who were part of the colossal Roman Empire. There is not a single person who is not hypnotized in front of the Colosseum, Piazza Navona, Fontana di Trevi or The Vatican............ For me Rome and Athens are UNIQUE for sure
Thank you! I'm from Rome (Pantheon Area, you've probably visited ''my'' monument); I'm glad that my city give a good impression for visitors. grets! :-)
I am Italian and from my perspective the world outside is very beautiful! We Italians have a saying in this case, namely 'the neighbor's garden is always greener!' It is a matter of perspective, when you are always in the same place you tend to take everything for granted, so it would be right to have a dynamic life, to travel at least two or three times a year, so as not to acquire that tiredness. in perception, always renewing one's gaze and perception spiritually, having a similar approach to children!
My last visit to Rome, and the most enjoyable, my wife and I didn't do any sight seeing and just enjoyed Roman culture, eating drinking and listening to music. It was fantastic.
These videos not only bring back delicious memories of my visit to Italy, but fill in the blanks of history which I had left out from my experiences. Amazing narration - respectful to local history and culture, without being boring for the viewer.
I was lucky enough to visit Rome as well as Lake Como & Milan just a few months after this was filmed & I completely fell in love with Rome & Italy, it's the most beautiful country in the world & of the few places I've seen I would say Rome & Lake Como are my favourite. I personally don't think any other city could compare to Rome.
I visited Rome while at grad school in London in 2018. I was just there one night but thank my lucky stars to have that memory now as we endure the pandemic. I can't wait to go back and see the Sistine Chapel, Spanish Steps, Catacombs and so much more. Best food in the world too!
For me, Rome is truly UNIQUE! It has everything from delicious food, to beautiful views, from open air museums, and affordable hotel rooms. Rome is truly the birthplace of democracy, and you feel like you're in Europe with all these roman ruins and the Coliseum. If you're also spiritual, the Pope is there too. So it's certainly the most unique city in Europe.
Ostia Antica is amazing! The village of Roma Ostia is just amazingly cute and picturesque! The muesum at Antica Ostia is just incredble! You are face to face with actual inhabitants of the 3rd and 4th centuries!
Italy is a sort of emotional rescue and therapy for the common american guy , but the representation on media is often full of stereotypes. So usually american people are far to understand the real italian culture . Mr Steves does his best work to improve the situation .
I love rome so much and especially italy, and that is one of the reason im taking italian language in my bachelor as my major❤️voglio vivere a roma in futuro🥰
I was fortunate enough to study and travel all the capitals as the typical “starving student.” Believe me there are ways to cut Rick’s budgets to the bone. I was very selective about the museums and a short train ride out from the historical centers of all these cities made all the difference in food and lodging. Your experience will be priceless if you learn the language. I look back and realize I did sell everything I could as well as sell a horse and a motorcycle. Beans and rice and rice and beans helped me save. Just do it.
I agree with another comment here back in 2014 people looked relaxed Wandering through the beautiful streets of Rome without a smart phone...if only i could time travel back centuries ago just to gaze at Romes ancient architecture...
Stunningly evocative. To think of how much more beautiful and prominent the colours and architecture would've been then without today's visual pollution is truly fascinating.
Thank you Rick! I followed your advice and popped into several churches while in Rome and the memories will last a lifetime! An organist practicing hymns, a Family preparing for a Matrimonial Mass with Red velvet Ribbons! And more! Thank You So much! FYI. St. Peter's Basilica is open at 7 am on Sundays. No lines anywhere, maybe 20 people in the entire Basilica!
I have been to Athens 3 times, Rome maybe 8 times, it's great for connecting flights to other European countries. I love both Rome and Athens, but I love the open space, the sunlight in Athens more. One thing I felt really safe to walk all over Rome at night was because there are police everywhere and I can ask for directions. Recently, I watch this UK program called "GINO ITALIAN ESCAPED " ITALIAN chef traveled all over lesser known cities/towns and cook traditional Italian cuisine, it made me wanna visit every coast of the "boot"👢 , especially the olive Grove
how do you spell the hotel name? My Wife, Daughter and I will be visiting Rome this July, I have already picked up your guide books for Rome and Florence
Does anybody else watch these travel videos knowing they will most likely never get to go to most of this countries & cities in their lifetime? It's a bit depressing, but also part of the fun.
Thank you. Such an inspiration. I am thinking of just getting a group together and only to visit the places you mention in this video. What a beautiful, Catholic, holiday. Thank you.
Dear Rick, Your clips are so amazing and fantastic that they can be perfect substitute of actual travel, especially for those of us who can't afford it. hence, with your wonderful episodes, we're keeping traveling :)
I also have been to Rome many times and there are still some things I haven't seen. If you are going then May and September is best. Don't even think about going before, during or after Easter ! sheer madness and over crowded !
Absolutely a tjme capsule of magnificent beauty far outweighing any modern city. Soemtimes u cannot out do the best when its alreadt been done. That is Rome.
Just a little nitpicking here: in the carbonara you must use the "guanciale" (from the pork's cheek and neck) and not the "pancetta" (from the pork's belly). It's more tasty and flavoured (and it has more fats), often seasoned with garlic and herbs, and it is left to mature for more time than the pancetta, so it's usually more crusty when cooked.
9:41 I lived in Rome for three years 20+ years ago and I can literally remember my first week there being warned about pickpockets on the 64 bus. I see nothing's changed!
Roman churches are magnificent and well worth while to see the tiles are also great to view.Astra was another great c8ty which( is still being researched and history of the this city wonderful love area
I've been to the Jewish bakery...and everything is burnt:(. I was a kosher baker in Seattle, and I was super excited to try this place out. I was sadly disappointed by the quality of the wares.
Really great, wish we would have gone to Ostia Antica But we did walk into that beautiful courtyard at the end of the video (off Campo d' Fiore)...I have the same picture. What a coincidence!
This is the second time I watched this video. But the part of Ostia, I was not able to watch it properly. It was only now that I was able to watched it properly, and appreciate its history. Very informative video.
After a hard day at work, my wife and I sit back and let Rick transport us to all the beautiful and exotic places we’d love to see! It has become a life-enriching experience for us🙏 Thanks, Rick💛
Virtually speaking
Rick is thoroughly absorbing in his style & narration. Love this guy, he & his team are absolutely amazing 🤩👍🏻👏
Thankyou Rick!
Rome is the most interesting and beautiful city I have ever visited.
The most beautiful country. The best food in the world. The sweetest and classiest people. Italia!!
I haven’t been everywhere but so far I certainly agree.
I am a Roman and love my city...we live daily, the ancient aspect along with modern times...all in one.
You have created a lovely documentary
Thank you.
@royalcrowify rome 2000 years ago was loaded with africans and midle eastern people, it was a multicultural city. How do u think they build the Colosseo? With slaves from africa
OOOWOW
It’s so refreshing to see people back in 2014 actually enjoying themselves and not on their phones 24/7
Rick Steves is my favorite person I don’t actually know.
In Rome do as the Romans do ; and the world does . The magic of Roma , the capital of history and culture of the ancient times .It still works its spell on modern travellers !
Rome is truly amazing. I loved every minute being there. Nothing really compares to its history.

Braschi Giovanni Angelo I love Rome too. It’s my favourite city in the world!
I could go to Paris, Dublin or London, but Rome is special, it has something the other cities don't offer.
Lunch in one of the restaurants in the Piazza Navona watching the World go by - sheer heaven !
Totally agree, just a pity that there's a Nigerian around every corner trying to sell you something (like in Paris)
The world is something, and Rome is something else.

Rick Steves and his magical backpack...love this show...
Yeah! Absolutely! Yet educational too. It seems we're travelling Europe because of Rick Steves' show. 👍☺️
I was in Rome in June 2018, I was walking underneath that very bridge. I googled it and it’s the oldest surviving bridge in Rome,Built in 62 BC 😊
Which bridge? Can you give a timestamp?
✨✨👀MOLTO VECCHIO ..... ❣️❣️💭😮

Rome is one European city I would love to visit.
Loved it ,the backstreets are the soul of any city .
Becareful in dublin then if you think that
Ostia Antica is amazing! The village of Roma Ostia is just amazingly cute and picturesque! The muesum at Antica Ostia is just incredble! You are face to face with actual inhabitants of the 3rd and 4th centuries!
I was honored to meet Mr. Rick Steves a few weeks ago when he was here in NYC, doing his "Travel as a Political Act" book signing.
Italy is a sort of emotional rescue and therapy for the common american guy , but the representation on media is often full of stereotypes. So usually american people are far to understand the real italian culture . Mr Steves does his best work to improve the situation .

@Chiara Brunelli Beh come "benvenuto" non c'è male...
I went to Rome this summer with my family and man oh man, do I want to go back lol. I miss it so much
Did you throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain ? if so you will go back !
For some reason Rome is the most interesting city in the world, It makes me feel a certain way.
I thought I had seen all of Rick's Italy videos and watched them all many, many times, but somehow I missed this one, and it is simply fantastic.
Thanks dear Steve's 🙏 sharing this information about Rome
While educational, it is also very enjoyable. Thank you.
The tour guides really earn their keep. It is so moving and upsetting to learn about the Jewish ghetto.
I love these side trips. Gardens, plants, flowers everywhere.
Visited Rome a few months ago and I can’t wait to go back

Yes right bro, I will do the same,
I was surprised that I didn't see any Chinese Tourists behind you. Love your travel videos. I am going one after another, cannot stop watching them.
Because there are too many Indian selling trinkets.

Was in Rome last year. Unbelievable place . Wish I had more time.

....so beautifully done ,..thank you!!
The part when Steve was on the bus and warned that anybody could be a pick pocket was hilarious even though he was being serious hahah!

Pasta a la carbonara! One of our favorite places was in the Camp de' Fiori. It was called (what else?) La Carbonara.
Noe Berengena noe - one of my FAVORITE PLACES is Campo dè Fiori.
