I have to agree; it's uncommonly good. I don't know how he does it but somewhow Mr Steves manages to strike exactly the right tone with these videos - remarkable. (My only quibble is with the comment that the English defeated Napoléon at Waterloo when it was the English plus various others.)
He does have the special ability in himself to make the places look way better and more beautiful than it is in reality. Or it might be that his voice and the way he narrates is just so calming that he can possibly make places in any corner of earth look like historical sights.
I like the French cities, castles, chateaus, palaces, cathedrals, monuments, architecture, nature, beaches, culture, literature, writings, books, art, history, music, cinematography and cuisine. Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world; it has gorgeous/beautiful art, architecture, museums, culture, history , cathedrals, castles, palaces, monuments and parks. It has one of the best cuisines in the world: French cuisine. France is a highly developed country, and continuously ranks high in measures of socioeconomic performance. France ranks high in international measures of economic freedom, quality of life, education, and human rights. Paris is the capital of France. Since the 17th century, Paris has been one of the world's major centres of finance, diplomacy, commerce, fashion, gastronomy, science, and arts. France has a highly developed democracy, culture, society, economy, infrastructure, technology, industry and agriculture. I have great respect for the country, culture and history of France. I like France and Paris....Respect for 'France' . Best wishes for France and God bless France.
I miss living in Paris, Im from Brazil and lived there for six months in 2012 when I was in college. Although I didnt have much money and actually shared a small flat, those were really great times, the excitment of going out and always meeting new people or just experiencing the city and walking around were great. Now Im a lawyer and though I have a lot more material conforts, I do miss the freedom of walking around in Parisians streets, I hope someday I manage to live there again, or at least have an apartment where I can go every now and then.
Watching the "Notre-Dame" Cathedral segment of this show is sad in 2019. On April 15, a major fire burnt down a large section of the cathedral. Current French president Emanuel Macron has vowed to rebuild the landmark to be even better than it was before. Blessed be.
Rick Steves does fantastic travel documentaries - it’s so funny and intelligent. Also it’s amazing cinema craftsmanship - pace, operator work, editing - each part is a little jewel.
We were fourtunate enough to visit Paris on our trip of a lifetime with our two children (one almost 4 and the other 14 months). We arrived in mid-may 1999. Things certainly have changed. I'm glad we were able to visit when we were able. It was the Paris of one's dreams, perfect. We saw quite a bit of sites in this video. Visited all the famous Paris icons, cozy neighborhood shopping streets, parks, rivers, It was glorious.
Paris great city love history, museums, the cathedral. Walking along the river area.greatt trips alone anc withheld. French friend to.Great tour and days thanks for your history Rick.
The second I saw the Statue of Winged Victory, it gave me goosebumps. Something about it is awe inspiring. I can only imagine the effect it would have actually seeing it in person. Thank you for the fantastic video!
Omg I just realized that Bastille Day is 3 days after my birthday. It’s always been a dream of mine to visit Paris, but to go there for my birthday and spend a week there, that would be a lifetime bucket list dream.
We stocked up on french bread an pastries and wine before the bus left for Germany. It was gone by the time we hit the border so we made the bus driver stop at the bakery at the border to stock up for our mother's again. Lol
No mention of Montmartre, Château de Vincennes, Sacré-Cœur, the Picasso museum, Cimetière du Père Lachaise, where hundreds of famous people are buried including Chopin, Oscar Wild, Rossini, Edith Piaf, Molière, Marcel Proust, Balzac and Jim Morrison to name just a handful.
Great video tour of Paris!!!! Merci. I’ve been to Paris twice and been to France 🇫🇷 four different times over the years. I’m really happy that I was able to see all of the Paris sites.
Love this show, I look for it whenever I tune in PBS. From my knowledge, I have ancestry from Ireland and Germany and maybe Poland, but I've always been endlessly fascinated by French culture. Starting with hearing about Napoleon in grade school and learning about The Eifel Tower, to hearing the language expressed in one of the most enigmatic songs of my youth, Lady Marmalade, my interest had been invariably stoked. 😀 As an interesting anecdote: when I was in Jr. High, there was this group of popular girls that enrolled at the school towards the end of the year, with one of them standing out, partly for her looks. But then, there was this French phase she use to say all the time, "Excusez moi, which stuck in my head, years later. The interesting part is that when the sitcom Friends came out, and I heard Phoebe use that phase, I started wondering if this wasn't the same girl all those years ago. She had long blonde hair, and like I mentioned, a total hottie. Lisa Kudrow is the right age, I checked. Anyways, that's just one more reason I've been intrigued by this culture. So I appreciate you and your travel program, especially those on France.💪🏼😆👍🏼🇫🇷
@Chicago Sidestreets I don't know him bcs we don't have him in our TV programs or else, I'm from non English-speaking country. But I'm glad I found him here, and I know from his quality that he is not just a RUclips vlogger 😄
What a magnificent video! I've been to Paris twice and seen as much as or a little more than this video has presented, but ... honestly, watching this video in my comfortable bed is more enjoyable than visiting those places on foot. Seeing Rick stand near Mona Lisa (near the end of this video), I am really envious ... because that painting is always surrounded by crowds, and it would be impossible for any visitor to get that close, and without anybody else in the background of your photo. All the work that was put in making this video is very much appreciated.
Used Rick’s Paris 2014 guide book for a two week visit to Paris and Versailles. Excellent 🇫🇷🇺🇸 But I recommend reading a few different guides too, Michelin, etc.
great video of Paris! all your programs are very educational. love your section in the Sunday Chicago Tribune. your very smart and i enjoy all your programs.
If you turn around and look on the opposite wall of the mona lisa you will see one of the most beautiful Gigantic sizes murals ever painted and the biggest a the Louvre the Wedding at Cana.
Great video. Now Napoleon did NOT loose to the 'British'at Waterloo but by the timely arrival of the fresh and complete of Prussian army of 155,000 under Blushers on the battlefield. THEY SAVED THE DAY .The British under Wellington had formed squares in order to survive. Squares are a ultra defensive position. Wellington joined his soldiers in to keep their spirits up as at this point the British seemed doomed ; at this point the Prussians appeared. Napoleon had anticipated their arrival with dread. He had left 45,000 men under Grouchy and sent countless orders to that officer to come back:: to no avail! Just a reminder: 100,000 under Wellington ; 150,000 under Blusher! Napoleon' forces115,000 of which 45,000 under Grouchy so in actual fact Napoleon had to fight with only 70,000 troops. He had planned to attack at first light as to be ready for the return the Prussians. But driving rain prevented that. One couldn't deployed those armies in the mud. Napoleon had to wait until 11am! This giving ample time to the Prussian to come and save the British in their squares. The Brit never beat Napoleon himself in battle that is on their own!!! Napoleon chose to surrender to the British instead of the Prussians. He believed they wood be more accommodating.
Well done! The fact that you have gone to a mosque in Paris, demonstrates how you are tuned with the diversity that's shaping France nowadays. Inclusiveness and mutual respect.
We travel with Rick vicariously when we watch his show
Rick, your videos bring joy to millions of people.
Paris is so beautiful. It's literally an art.
It's great being able to watch these during the shelter in place

Quarantine is getting a bit old at this point though.
If the globalists have their way, no one outside of France will see these sights again.

Much respect from Denmark to France. Love your people and food 🇫🇷🇩🇰
Thanks. Respect to Denmark. Welcome to France.

@RedGoat 1. Paris; 2. Florence; 3. Venice

@RedGoat ever heard of an opinion?
Good cheese, good meat/seafood, good wine, and more. For culinary lovers, Paris truly is the "city of love"!
How does Rick not win Academy Awards or something like those for his amazing videos??
You can give him one ... and a million dollars if you think he is so good.
He has won awards, look it up.

Thanks for the video. I've been to Paris 7 times, last time 1993. I miss the city. These videos are next best to being there.

Gee, thanks for letting us know about the fire, in case we all missed the ubiquitous news coverage for weeks.
3 days from now, it will have happened 1 year ago. So sad :'(
Notre Dame is scheduled to reopen in December. I'll probably see the cathedral myself in Summer 2026.
