@@blunderingfool It honestly is a LOT like Commandos, but with an inventory so you can grab fresh gear off soldiers you kill... or... give all of your company's gear to one man and pull an Amphibious assault. Like Commandos, it's really better if you mainly use 1 soldier and just have others hide or support them from cover.
Lazar shishkin is very lucky to have assaulted the German division of disassociated soldiers. They might not have even understood they were at war.

How many medals would a guy like Lazar get? Destroyed several tanks and vehicles, blew up a depot, took out an artillery site, rescued a bunch of POWs, killed near to a hundred soldiers and commandered several enemy vehicles all while inflicting heavy damage on enemy structures.

Well doing some homework on the Soviet orders, decorations and so on. I've deduced these medals:
Hero of the Soviet Union 2x Awarded
Order of Lenin 2x Awarded
Order of the Red Star 3x Awarded
(If he survived WW2 to 1945) - Order of the Patriotic War
Order of Alexander Nevsky 2nd Class
Order of Kutuzov 1st Class, two classes
Order of Glory 1st Class, all 3 classes
Order "For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR"
Literally Lazar met all criteria for these medals. Lazar IS the Red Army.
P.S. Also 3rd Class of Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky since he was less than rank of NCO. But given what he did, he'd be promoted to captain.

Lazar is a true main character, a masterful sniper, doing it all by himself and driving his infamous Kubelwagen. Probably my favorite video game hero.
Kubelwagen directly translates to "Jeep of Deutschland" I know this because I made it up.

I thought that was more of a World War One tactic.
This reminds me of an anecdote my grandfather used to tell. His neighbor in the small village where he grew up had somehow gotten hold of a Kübelwagen after the war, which he parked in the barn. One day in the morning, the poor guy grazed the barn door as he was driving out, and that was the end of him. And the barn. It took like half a year to clear all of the rubble.
Anyway, I don't think there are any Kübelwagen around any more. The Verfassungsschutz tracked down and scrapped the last ones during the 70s.

This reminds me of playing Codename: Panzers as a kid. I was obsessed with spamming infantry with as much kit as i could fit (mines, grenades, anti tank, flamethrowers) and hiding them in buildings to ambush and hijack tanks.

Growing up i spent a scary amount of time in the men of war "gem editor" making missions for myself because I enjoyed the game so much. Wish MOW as well as company of hero's were in better shape now a days.... Always love your content! Thanks

I was actually very surprised there was no kubelwagen mod for PZ, I am sure that I have seen a sherman and sdkfz in there before. Or at least I couldn't find it.

The entire Men At War series is excellent. MaW2 mods are also freaking crazy good. Warhammer 40k, Star Wars. CoD modern warfare. Seriously worth checking out if you’re into RTS. The higher difficulties are actually tough for AI. Then you look at TW and realize they are more than capable of developing a competent AI just refuse to.
It was one of my favorite game series back then; the very first one, named Soldiers: Heroes of WWII, is still my favorite. Unfortunately, the new game looks like the previous ones, which were made ten years ago

Sniper Elite 3 looks sick AF
This game is a hidden treasure. I've found it by randomly checking boxes with CD/DVD's in the shop. Direct control mode transforms the game in the top down third person shooter, kinda Call of Duty: United Offense but better.
Okay so. I’m a native Russian speaker and I put up the funny frog man’s vids to fall asleep to. Man the sudden DAVAI with a walkie talkie sounding audio was a doozie and a half to be started by at 1am, telling you that much

Love the irony of the mid-war Soviet Union sending a singular, extremely well-equipped sneaky sniper to flank around the front and get behind enemy lines to rescue captured POWs, really captures how the Soviets did things back then

Its hilarious to me that this is a challenge cuz this is actually how I use to play. I couldn't be fucked to maneuver all my troops together so I would just load up one soldier at a time and go as far in as I could lol
This kinda reminds me of Crossfire.
Granted, the version of Crossfire I'm thinking of is a tabletop wargame, but I'm sure you'd enjoy that too.
I also played this game like this, 1 soldier vs the whole mission, I usually failed.
I remember finding men of war red tide on my families old 2007 computer that ran slower than a lawnmower, it was nearly as old as me, but men of war was great, cool game that my dad passed on

Yoooooo! Me, my dad, my cousin, and sometimes my sister, would play men of war SO MUCH! It got to the point our mum told us to go to hell with that game because we played while her show was on and we got loud, heheh. I used to snipe, grenade, and then steal my dad's tanks, and we would always team up against him (i was like 12 at the time), it was a lot of time. Long live KATYUSHA
Original game from 2004 was sooo good and ahead of its time, can't believe it. After 20 years it's basically same game, even graphics not much better.
Most missions was like, there three of your mens, kill three hundred bad guys and they have tank battalion and unpredictable reinforcements.

This immediately reminds me of Soldiers: Heroes of WW2. (Ah ok it's the sequel?) It was def easier to use 1 soldier in that and just have others take up covering positions. You can clear whole maps without losing a man if you're careful about it, vs just plain failing the mission if you actually try to charge your guys in.
