William was such a sweetheart, I miss Matthew and Sybil, they were both likeable and loveable characters.

Same! I've re-watched Downton Abbey probably 10 times and I always have to skip that episode.
Same, i hated Robert so hard in that episode, i still blame him.

It hit harder than Mathew's. But with his death it was the second in one season, so it was more shocking

Season 2 premiere where Branson proposes to Sybil. Their romance would count down like a ticking time bomb for years.

Haha, before I watched this show, I found out that both my mom and my ex-boyfriend stopped watching the show after Matthew died because he was their favorite character😂
I stopped watching the show after Mathew died, and now (like 5 years later) i'm rewatching it. I started on Saturday and today (Wensday) i'm halfway season 5

I couldn’t help but smile at each line, and love her a bit more, but her burn to Sir Richard was the first time I totally cracked. I just couldn’t help it!! I was soooo sick of him myself! LOL
I’ve watched the whole series 3 times and both movies twice. I look forward to future viewings too, and a third movie if they decide to make it. I’m a huge fan. Blessings to you all!

Season 5 Christmas Special is one of the best. The visit to Scotland, Bates comes back, Mary sings, Carson proposes! 💜

Honestly I love this series so much BUT ...true story I full on rage quit when Mathew dies 🤨 I mean we were just getting over Sybil and now that!! 😤😤😤😭😭😭 swere to god it took me months to return and Finnish it but I did love the rest as I said 🥰😉
I'd put the penultimate episode of the series higher than Honorable Mention -- I think it may be my #1, in fact. It includes some of the best scenes of the series, not to mention Robert's immortal line: "Golly gumdrops, what a turn-up!" :)
Honorable Mention: The one where Edith calls Mary a bitch.
Also this show should just be renamed aka There's Something About Mary.
The very best scene: when Matthew proposed to Mary, in season 2, episode 9.
They are standing on a patio, with snow falling, very beautiful romantic scene.
First-rate script, probably the best scene in Downton Abbey!

How far did I get in the series? Well I've watched the whole show through twice now, so I'd say I got pretty far. xD
I would not say these are the best but probably the most remarkable.
I was expecting number 1 to be Mary and Edith arguing then Edith started calling Mary a "bitch. Not content with your own life so you are determined to ruin mine."
Great list. As a huge Downton Abbey fan, here are my top moments from the series:
Ethel's affair with Major Bryant and the baby
Thomas kissing Jimmy in bed and saving his life later on
Edith and Mary apologising to each on the day of Edith's wedding
Anna and Bates', star-crossed lovers. Both of accused of killing someone.
Sybil and Tom eloping and standing up to Lord Grantham
Lord Grantham's affair with Jane Moorsum
Mary's new hairdo
Lady Cora's affair in Season 5 because of her love with the paintings
Lord Carlisle gets owned with a punch from Matthew
Sybil wearing trousers, attending the march on women's right
Thomas and his crazy affairs with Duke of Crowborough, Edward Courtnay, and being a big brother to Andrew
Thomas attempting to end his life
Lord Grantham throwing up blood during dinner
Edith being the head of Michael Gregson's company
When Matthew sings with Lady Mary, says so sorry to Lady Mary and Matthew kissed her, and the snowy proposal. It is so wow. Great partnership. Bless Matthew and Lady Mary. The best couple in the TV series.

So yes another one that stop watching after the first episode of series 4 as I just wanted to see how Mary was coping with Matthew's death.
Didn't go back to watch the rest until last year.
It was ok but just not the same and so while I'll definitely always go back to re-watch the show again, I know that I'll stop when I get to the Christmas special for series 3.
RIP Matthew Crawley.

In my opinion the ten best written, best preformed, most memorable, and most important episodes of the entire series are as follows:

As you can see, a majority of the episodes I have chosen in the top half come from series 3, which I believe is the shows strongest. My ranking of the six series are as follows:

I watched the whole series on dvd.
How far did I get through the series? Allllll the way.... about 6 times!
Yea I stopped after Matthew died
Why? Matthew's exit was one of the best things to happen in the series as it gave Mary's character a brilliant future. It would have been so boring to have her and Matthew just happily married for another 3 series.
@@AudreyMealiff Bc they were just killing off everyone at that point. The first episode made sense with the cousin dying on the titanic bc it started off the series. Then the turk in Mary's bed. Then Matthew's fiance, then sybil, then matthew....it was just too many deaths in a short period of time that I thought the writing was getting stale for me.
They hadn't much choice when the 2 actors decided to leave.
@@AudreyMealiff Sybil could've moved to Ireland with her husband, but then effectively you get rid of Tom. I understand you had to kill off Matthew bc there couldn't be any other way to continue the story without that actor (unless you recast ala Darren from Bewitched - which i wouldn't like). I can't help my feelings though. I was starting to lose interest in Season 3 and then those deaths completely lost my interest.

I would've have thought "The One with the Cricket Match" would be on the list because of Thomas' struggle and not because of a 10 minute match witch zero significance 😒
Number 1 is the Series 2 Christmas Special, not Series 3, Episode 1.
Downton Abbey is perfect all the way up to season 3 finally. ( Erasing the last 10 seconds of the show)
Except for the silly Patrick Gordon story. That was painful.
Those last 10 seconds are the most important 10 seconds of the entire show. It signaled a groundbreaking change that re-formed the series for better or worse. I personally think it was beautifully crafted and showed how brave the show could be.

Because that's not McGonagall but the Dowager. Maggie Smith plays her role in Downton Abby.

Your number 1 pick is Season 2 Episode 9/Season 2 Christmas Special, not Season 3 Episode 1. Season 3 Episode 1 is when the wedding happens.

So I agree with most of your picks, certainly 2.9 as number #1. But I would have left out 2.3 and those from series 4. Really the best episodes came from seasons 1-3, with 1&3 being stronger than 2, but with picking up in the end with 8&9. After Matthew died, the show just tanked, especially with all those horrible suitors for Mary. Though I did love Edith’s happy ending.
With Matthew's dead, the show died a little too, the seasons 4 and 5 are not as good as the first 3.
Why are you always green?
I've got to be honest, I never cared much for Matthew, so his death wasn't all that bad... Of course not good, and poor folks who were watching it at the time (on christmas non the less) but I was always just rooting for Mr. Bates and Anna :D
