  • Problem with ELM327 Mini Bluetooth OBDII which gets paired but doesn't connect to Torque app in any of 3 cellphones. The car I'm trying to scan is a Jeep Liberty 2005. I've already tried to use it in a 2001 Chevy Metro, 2006 Ford Focus and a 2003 Mazda Protégé with same results.

    Carlos...I bought 3 of these adapters for my two vehicles. Left one in each car and had the other in my garage for a spare. Same exact problem you're having with one important difference. One adapter did not work right out of the starting gate Drove me nuts because I thought I was doing something wrong. After about an hour of wasted time back pains and hair pulling I tried another one Guess what..It worked fine. Got my readouts and even did some mapping. Well...I guess I got a bad one shit happens! Then just yesterday Since I've been having gas cap problems turning on the light I plugged it back in after not using it for 6 months.. Same crap The damn thing just went bad no warning no use just went bad! It pairs but won't connect. That makes two now. Went to the garage put on that adapter. Worked fine! Looks like these things aren't built very well with a high failure rate. Try another one chances are it will work. It also should ask for a code which is either 1,2,3,4 or 0,0,0,0. If it doesn't ask It's probably a bad one.. Bottom line the're just built very cheaply and fail alot. They are cheaply made devices that fail for no reason..! e-bay sellers know this and if you contact them will 9 times out of ten send you another one. I don't think you can fix them so...just try getting another one. When it works it's a useful gadget. Don't let it drive you crazy, it's not our fault. They should be ashamed of themselves selling junk like that!

    Thanks guys its great we all get quick response back to help each other out. I am just thinking is the problem coming from my civic. I can see it's reaching and try to connect but couldn't find the protocol

  • @danm3188
    @danm3188 8 лет назад +5

    Just FYI, it's not necessarily the protocols, like some people keep yapping about. I have a $5 OBD BT adapter that looks just like the one in the video. It worked fine and cleared recurring error code a few different times... until it stopped connecting to ECU for no apparent reason. Still works in other car, but not the one with the error code.

    Same problem with a Goliton Power2. Noticed the following after pairing done:
    1. the obd2 device has a timeout seems to stop transmitting after a short time and then rtries. Seems the best thing to do is to open the app first and then connect the obd2 to the car
    2. at this point it starts communicating but says it connecting with CAN ISO protocol etc.
    3. when finished it may say unable to connect to ECU

    Not this particular model, but mine had same problem. One suggested fix was to force quit and restart torque (simply shutting the program will not work). Doing this TWICE worked for me.

      Should add that it was a different car too so may not work on this one.

    There are more reason for the connection failure but the most obvious is that the bluetooth until now can handle only 1 connection. So if there is something in the surround that use bluetooth i.e. phone headset, speakerset, smartwatch etc. that can hinder in connecting to obdii.

      +Les OO On my case, I was testing it in the driveway with no other gadgets around (other than the camera I was using to record the video) so, pretty much it was the little blue ELM327 that didn't want to work properly. :(

      Suggestion: the car handsfree bluetooth paired connection. Solution for that: unpair your other car bluetooth connetcion. In my case that is not the issue since the car with the OBD adapter does not have bluetooth handsfree kit. Thanks anyway.

    From all researches, I fell it works for someone and not for others is the reason that this device only works for cars manufactured after Jan 2013. For cars manufactured before that, it power the obd, however it can't connect to the ecu...
    This experience I came to know cause I've cars before and after those mentioned years....

    For the record, I want to say something about this. I have the exact model elm327 Bluetooth shown in the video. It connects fine without any issues on my 2011 Infiniti G37. However, when I connect it to my 1999 Ford Explorer, it pairs with Bluetooth but it won't connect to torque. Might refer that something has to do with the protocol on the car not talking to torque correctly. Not sure what it could be.

      Sadly it might be because that particular ELM can't "talk" to the ECM of your Chevy. But at least you can get codes from your Acura. Mine couldn't work at all.

      Thanks, I also ended up with a refund due to faulty unit. I bought from a different seller which had an on off button on the elm327 mini and it worked fine for Australian accord euro 2005. It didn't work on my other Honda crv 2002 which I found out is because it wasn't odb2 compliant required back then for Australia even though it had the odb2 connector.

    There are like 12+ different communication protocols for ECUs. Those small elm mini can only handle 2 or 3 max. Depends on for where it was designed. Most of them are made for European market. That Elm works - just not with your car. I recommend to get more expensive unit that has all protocols.

    Same problem here,it's all about the cars protocol,no matter if the device is cheap or expensive if does not compatible with your ECU you can not do anything.
    Read the description of some HUD or On board Computer for example which are connected with ELM327 or with cable with your OBDII port:
    Attention:
    This OBD2 Car HUD are not compatible with following cars:
    - European and American cars manufactured before 2004 and Asian cars manufactured before 2008.
    - American cars produced before 2004 and all Dodge, JEEP, Sail, Chrysler cars.
    - France cars manufactured by FAT,DS,PEUGEOT,Citroen,Renault,Simka, Amirka
    - Japanese cars: Suzuki, Mazda, Infiniti (QX50, Q50, Q501), Toyota avanza 2013,
    Lexus (is250, ex250, ES300H), Honda (jazz, CRV) are not compatible.
    And all Japanese cars before 2008 are not compatiable.
    - Some models of Kia and Hyundai cannot use this OBD2 HUD (2013 Hyundai Sonata, 2017 Kia Soul PS, etc.)
    - Oil-electric hybrid and some diesel vehicles cannot use OBD2 HUD, GPS HUD are recommended.
    - Pickup Trucks and Modified ECU vehicles are not suitable for this HUD.
    I bought an expensive device and never manage to make it work so no Torque etc on my cell phone,sad but true guys...

I haven't gotten around to trying an older version of Android on another phone. i'm not sure where the incompatibility exists but my USB elm327 adapter has never had an issue and works 100% of the time with my laptop. I've been fairly disappointed with the ELM327 adapters and the software supported on all operating systems. The software seems very old, has bad support, or is poorly made. I am considering buying one of the units with the "box" so that I can also test electrical components timing like cam and crank sensor corrolation.

    The reason is its MAC address (one can see it while connecting and searching for the device, so the adapter’s name will be detected and its MAC address).
    If the MAC address of your adapter starts with the numbers 66:35:56: ... (for example, 66: 35: 56: 78: 90: AB) - be prepared that this adapter will fail to connect, and what's more, they can cause problems with your car.

    FOUND THE SOLUTION,,, so you use torque the app,, and then if u cant connect it Is because your obd2 is loose and have to hold it a certain angle not use let it hang, you have to hold it with your hands and scan it

  • @willyappel7722
    @willyappel7722 6 лет назад

    The first eight minutes of this movie is what you have done yourself for a couple of weeks now: trying to connect which fails.. You came here to look for the solution bc the title of the movie kinda suggested you this and you were looking for that. Why make this movie anyway? It is not in the first eight minutes! (you =all the visitors of this video) don't know about the rest of the video. But check for the commands below. Looks after 13 minutes the answer is: dont buy the cheap version from china. There's no solution here. Next video about this topic.

    • @CarlosSantos-cz2xr
      @CarlosSantos-cz2xr  9 лет назад +1

      ivanfdocm At least did you get it pair with your cellphone? and also did you tried with other vehicles because I tried mine with 3 (Jeep Liberty 2005, Chevy Metro 2001, Ford Focus 2006, Mazda protégé 2003) and didn't work :(

    • @ivanfdocm
      @ivanfdocm 9 лет назад +1

      Yes, I got it pair with my cellphone, but I tried with two obd2 and none worked, researching, it doesn't support all cars with OBD2 and CAN protocol because they each have an encrypted different.
      Also, I discovered that an error in the protocol, bluetooth is turned off and disconnected.
      I hope you understand me because I don't know much English.

    i have the same problem as you do. its probably fake, just like mine which had a mac address of [00:00:00:00:00:01]. i bought it from www.lazada.com.ph/car-auto-mini-v15-interface-bluetooth-obd2-ii-diagnostic-interface-scanner-1455361.html from found out that these guys had same issues too: www.incardoc.com/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=84#post252

    • @CarlosSantos-cz2xr
      @CarlosSantos-cz2xr  8 лет назад

      +benjo gwapo, I bought mine from Ebay. Needles to say it never worked. The good thing is that I got it really cheap so it was not even worth to try getting a refund... I rather use an ordinary scanner which can be as pricy as the real ELM327 but more useful and reliable for certain situations.
