Always amazed at your ability to deliver all of this information with minimal cuts and editing. The bars and cool and all, but damn, your memory is impeccable.
I appreciate that you said it wouldn’t make sense to sell your current one just to upgrade for something similar-that’s exactly what I would have to do. Thank you so much.
Definitely a noticeable difference on the drop test, and I agree on the aesthetic improvement on the sleeves. I think I’ll stick with my bare steel ribbed OPB for now though - I know there’s got to be an innuendo in there somewhere
Thanks for covering this, I would have never known about these changes. I'm particularly interested in the changes to the ribbing of the sleeves. When I bought the 45lb OPB for my home gym setup, I was surprised at how the ribbing on the sleeves made such a loud noise when loading/unloading plates, compared to the ones in the commercial gym. Not sure if the noise is due to the large ribbing or because I am using machined iron plates that don't have the steel hubs. Which do you think makes a bigger difference in terms of minimizing sound of loading plates: ribbed sleeves or plates with steel hub?
yes the plate can make a big difference as well, how tight the tolerance of the center hub is, the material it's made of, if it's tapered or not, etc...
In 2021 I purchased a Rogue Ohio bar for powerlifting cause I didn’t know what I was doing. Then in 2023 I bought a OPB, and thought wow!!! What a difference. Currently, I don’t feel I need a more aggressive bar…but if I bought a 2X would I also be amazed, or is it just not necessary over the reg OPB? Sorry for the long set up
@ I don’t feel like it’s needed. More curious than anything, but I think overall I’d enjoy more. Is the Aggro 2x more aggressive than a cerakote Texas Deadlift bar?
@@ianhudson9590 I think the aggro 2x might be the pefect knurl, however not a huge upgrade for the most part. They re did the tolerances like I said above, but again prob not worth dropping another $400 or so on if you like yours now!
So my "new" OPB i bought a few months ago is already retro??? lol, Ain't nothing wrong with a little clanging and banging but I like the idea of less aggressive ribbing on the collars, was never a fan of it making that scrapping sound when loading plates but some of that depends on the type of plates you have.
I’m not sure when they instituted the changes. The 20kg was more recent from what I can tell but they didn’t really announce any of the changes so hard to say.
Thanks Brandon, gotta say I came up with smooth sleeves and continue to prefer them. Did old school bars back in the 60ies, 70ies, 80ies & 90ies have ribbing? I started lifting in the 00ies
Agree with you Brandon - rattling isn’t great. All our new barbells released a year ago have tighter tolerances and smoother sleeves. On top of nice end caps and laser etching on the insides of the sleeves. We took our time to make some of the best barbells in the world.
So if you could only keep one, would it be the new Ohio power bar, or the American barbell chewy? Which one do you reach for more now that you have both?
A second Ohio Power Bar allows me to super set better if I want to keep one in the rack and the other near my deadlift platform. I have been looking to get a second Power Bar for better efficiency of my time in the gym.
I think the original stainless steel OPB had F-Rating F2. The new one is F10-R. So looks like some shaft hardening has been going on too... Thanks for the heads up.
While we are discussing Rogue products, many of us basement and garage gym owners with limited space would greatly appreciate a review of the plate loaded single stack Rogue FM-HR (the half rack functional trainer). This is the cheapest variation with the smallest footprint so it will likely be Rogue’s best seller. I want to purchase one but cannot seem to find answers to two questions: (1) can the FM-HR be converted to a full size power rack later when I have more space; and (2) will the drop-in Rhino work on the plate loaded FM-HR or do I have to purchase the full size rack? The main reason I am leaning towards the plate loaded version is to ensure the drop in Rhino can be added later but I need to know if it will work on the half rack or if the full rack is required. Thanks for all the work you put into this channel. It plays a big factor in my gym equipment purchasing decisions.
I bought OPB last month in stainless/chrome. But got the 45lb version. I’m too new to lifting to know any difference…just trying to keep up with the cool kids.
I wonder what the new bar sounds like compared to the 2.0S Ohio bar that was marketed as being quiet - I almost wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve just included that design into other bars now across the board.
Just got the new version in. Shipped to the west coast and showed up in perfect condition. This new version is a beaut. The included QC sheet is a welcome addition as well.
I still think the Chewy is the best built bar I own. However you can get a similar experience for less and even more so if you want to venture into imports.
Off topic but can someone help me? I am looking for a deadlift bar in Europe. My options here: atx deadlift bar, ohio deadlift bar, texas deadlift bar and the bastard deadlift bar from strenghtshop. I am a beginner-intermediate powerlifter who trains on a stiff bar at home but wants to experiment with a deadlift bar, I am not the best puller (PB 225kg). Want a good whip and quality/price ratio. Wich do I go for? Thanks in advance!
I spent about two years deciding this. Ended up with the OPB SS/SS this summer with the upgrades. I couldn’t ask for anything else. It’s sublime. The price difference in Canada was too large to ignore and the Gluck gym video describing the knurl as less aggressive were the killers. Also some reviews, whether true or not, of some people getting a bent chewy weighed on my mind. I can confirm no rattle in mine and silent deadlifts. Considered the dbl bd from rep also. Also, 29 mm tpb.
That’s awesome! Thank you! I think I’ll go with the Opb since I also want the new kabuki transformer. I’d use the OPB for bench, kabuki for squat, and I actually use a kabuki trap for deadlifts but would also swap in the OPB or just use my current OB since that’s a good transition to overhead lifts and with crash cushions and urethane plates if the collars are tight it’s a nice setup
Tough choice. My AB Chewy is prob my best built bar I own, but you have to decide if you want to pay a few hundred more for it. The sleeves are also really nice on the AB as they do chrome a lot better than Rogue does.
@@BasementBrandon I was wondering about the chrome. I have the AB Grizzly Power Bar, which is their "economy" bar, though it is more expensive than Rogue. But the chrome is really well done. I see people dissing chrome and I don't get it, it works really well, IMO.
@@richardmather1906 I'm can't say with certainty, but from what some have told me they claim Rogue's chrome is decorative, which is not as good as hard chrome.
These are literally things I never think about and couldn't care less about. Not a knock on your vid; love your content. But I always have tunes blasting in my home gym so I really DNGAF about a bit noise from my bars. I have cast iron plates. If I cared about noise I'd invest in bumper plates before a 'quiet' bar. I forget a lot but I'm too impatient to do a bunch of cuts or editing 😅
The sound was way more noticeable than I expected. Well done Rogue!
Agreed!
Hello Rogue Fitness! Welcome to the 21st-century. We have been waiting patiently. It’s good to have you.

@@wayne5741 yeah for public gyms not a big deal since fans and ambient noise is higher but for home gyms would be nice

I love to see Rogue improve their processes. We benefit in the end

Thank you for telling me I don’t need to upgrade. I’m going broke with all these bars. 🤣
Haha not my fault!
lol I love the sleeve grooves!!! Collars grip way better!
I like it for bench for sure
Great quick video!
After having the original SS OPB and now a Hybrid bar….2x knurling is fantastic and I can’t go back.
the 2x is def nice!
What's the difference between chrome sleeves and stainless steel ones? Is it worth the money?
I don't think SS sleeves make much sense these days. They add to the cost and don't really do much.

About time Rogue caught up to the rest of the industry with their tolerance. I have an old Operator Bar 3.0 and it's sooooooooo loud
Glad to see they're working on things as well.
Sounds like a fair amount of improvement in build quality

So if you could only keep one, would it be the new Ohio power bar, or the American barbell chewy? Which one do you reach for more now that you have both?
Really depends on context. Best all around bar I own is the AB Chewy, but since I compete in powerlifting I use a lot of IPF style bars.
