Here's another cool pedal video about a super rare fuzz Kurt Cobain used to record with during the in utero sessions. The square wave sounds very unique and interesting!
@@SLONOREZ-qt4fc Arron says in a previous video that the Mesa boogie studio (clean channel) is identical to a Fender Quad Reverb just with an EQ circuit. So the mesa boogie studio is essentially a knock off lol.

I can definitely relate to the obsession of finding the perfect tone to replicate your favorite band/musician using every piece of gear and research that you can find. I never took it to quite the level you are at but I love and appreciate your dedication. This channel is gold!
The tone on the intro of "Rape Me" was the catalyst to my guitar journey all those years ago. That's also how I found your videos. What you're doing is amazing, every little detail down to the loop pile count of the carpet in the room during the recordings. Of what I think is one of the best sounding albums of all time. I'll be interested in both of the pedals when the time comes.
The Super Fuzz + Echo Flanger combo is one of my favorite tones you ever shown in a video bro, the damn thing sounds like it's about to explode into a million pieces.
I cant get over how rad the engine sounds still. When you posted that video a while ago I was immediately impressed but hearing it again for the first time since then I'm still just as enamored

I'm a teenager who's also living in seattle and your work is so inspiring, and these pedals are something I'm exactly looking for and would love to be able to own without breaking the bank, but in the end its your work and your decisions.
@@illcomeupwithacreativename4096 Invest? Dude, I said MAKE ONE. Couldn't be more than 20 bucks in parts. Stop making excuses and start making the fuckin pedal already bro
Hey Aaron I might have an idea for your power issues on the engine pedal. If you use a 9v power regulator in series after the 9v input you can minimize any large draw of power from the wall that could damage it. This method works with negative voltage and provides a constant supply of power to minimize inconsistency with the sound. I hope this helps, im excited to buy your pedals in the future.
I like your In Utero pedal way more than any of the others. Sounds full and bitey, the others sound so thin, and the Muff is missing that bite. Great vid!
Thanks Aaron! Just a couple of hours ago I built myself this pedal according to the scheme from tagboardeffects. I can't find the right words to describe how awesome this pedal is! In russian there is a word "pizdets". This is PIZDETS - what a cool pedal!!! And it's not even that it turns out to make the sounds of double-track guitars from the In Utero. This fuzz has a huge potential for noise-rock and other crazy punk. Once again, thank you very much! Your channel is a real find, brilliant content!!!
dude ik u probaly wont read this but this is like the holy grail of RUclips favorite channel fs this sounds crazy good and your hi flyer is so cool I'm making my own in honor of you
I think you definitely have found an In Utero secret weapon. That square wave nails it, it brings that very slight bite into the mix that the muff lacks. The Sansamp does this imo also
The filter matrix is too good! I don't have a Polychorus/can't get one (way too expensive lol) but the Electric Mistress has a Filter Matrix mode that works for me!
Its fun to watch gear videos and see people try to recreate a guitarist tone. The thing about Kurt, I am certain a lot of us had his tone at one point in our lives, That crappy, I cant afford a good amp/guitar, turn the gain up tone. For me, it was a Fender M80 half stack that i spray painted green in my teens. If Nirvana was never a thing, I am certain people would hear his tone and hate it and would never want to recreate it. Its crazy how much fame can change things, Even the simplest things like Kurts guitar tone.
Fucking awesome video, I honestly think that the Univox Superfuzz through the filter matrix almost sounds like your Engine pedal without the filter matrix on, so that may have been the tone as you said before, but still i’ve the engine as it does that sound regardless of the combo
You're going to have all the quads left in the US. Until now you're the only other person who I've known that even has one... Well, more than one. Hahaha. I did meet someone in Austin once who had a super six... The quad is a heavy amp. I can't imagine lugging around a 6x12 combo on tour. Crazy. The quad is the coolest of the fender combos IMHO it's like a stack but since it's a fender you get better bass response from the open back cab. I used to mic mine behind the speakers in the studio. It sounded really cool to mix in w the mic in the front.
The Univox Square Wave is fundamentally a Fuzz Face topology, except all silicon transistors and an FET for the 2nd transistor. Unlike a Fuzz Face or Tone Bender (which is often the same thing), the gain is fixed, rather than variable. Like the EHX Muff Fuzz - which is also a sort of silicon Fuzz Face variant with fixed gain - ituses a pair of clipping diodes on the output to add a little sizzle. And because the form factor Univox used would limit them to only two knobs/controls, they provided a Tone and Volume control, rather than the more standard Volume and Gain/Drive/Distortion/Fuzz control. This tone control is a little different from what many are used to, in that it rolls off bass, rather than treble. I've built a few of these, but made the gain variable, for less and more intense sounds, and included a toggle for selecting two kinds of clipping diodes, or no diodes at all. The thing remains a beast, even without diodes. If anything, the diodes serve to keep the volume in check, because this thing can be LOUD.
@AaronRash If you ever do a commercial run of these pedals, would you consider combining the 'in utero' square wave fuzz and the echo flanger filter matrix together into one pedal?
