the kurt cobain engine pedal

- Ever since getting into guitar about a year and a half ago. I've always been fascinated by Kurt Cobain's tone. One of these tones in particular sounds like an engine to me. So I've built a guitar pedal to completely replicate it. Hope you dig it!
It has always happened to me in several nirvana songs, like dive, the sound of the guitar gives me the sensation of being in some kind of factory/industry, an engine, and with this video I felt totally identified
Love this. I hope you will put "The Engine" pedal schematics out. I have always been trying to find how to replicate Kurt Cobains In Utero / home recordings sound in a pedal box. There is nobody except you on the internet that talks about it. I just always wanted to build pedal to duplicate it, but never succeded...
I don't know if he'll put out schematics but i'm certainly going to buy one when he makes his run of them. I am a lifelong fan of Nirvana. I bought the cassette the day it came out so I am excited about this pedal. You can replicate almost anything with plugins in a DAW but i can't get this "engine" sound he is describing. I know exactly what he means! My personal guitar tone was based around the Bleach sound. raw and sounds like it wants to hack you up. i have an in utero sound too but it's not that accurate and it's missing that "engine" sound.
@@PhiberOptik1979 Plugins can do everything, but I want that in one compatible box. I would buy it too, but because it is handmade, I think it will be higher than my price range. I buy almost everything on guitar from secondhands or make it myself, lmao. I made a clone of Sansamp Classic, because original is very pricey for me. And because its not very reliable circuit I have a backup Behringer GDI21 V-Tone in case accident on stage. Behringer GDI21 V-Tone, that is basically clone of Sansamp GT2...
@@notgringe2574 I'm in the same boat with the price range. fixed income. But we'll see how he prices it. it is handmade, but also not professionally done, admittedly like he said in the video so they could have issues too. The price has to be right but I would definitely like one of these!
@@notgringe2574 Did you make a PCB for your Sansamp Classic clone or build it on vero or perfboard? I don't think it's an inherently unreliable circuit but if you built it on perf or vero the offboard wiring for the DIP switch is an absolute nightmare and a source of all sorts or issues, I tried to build one that way the experience drove me to learn how to design PCBs in Eagle just so I wouldn't have to mess with it anymore. I still have a couple boards if you're interested in giving it another go.
@@DefconMaster I designed my own PCB from schematics. My clone behaves like a vintage Sansamp Classic. Most issues come with the integrated chips that I use. Because I´m from europe we don´t have the originals chips that are in the Sansamp Classic, so I use TL-072 and TL-074, that imitates the original ones pretty well. But that comes with some problems: Feedback issues, no output. But I maybe figured out the problem because pedal haven't got any problem for a long time.
i’m interested in purchasing this. it’s a unique sound with pretty significant creative potential.
And if he comes out with a version of this that has a third knob that can control a sound that replicates the Quad reverb with three of the tubes blown out and only one working, This will be the #1 pedal of 2023
Kurt had a Fender twin amp but with some tubes or caps going out and it made a unique natural fuzz/distortion tone that he loved and used it on the in utero album.
They likely called it the Yung-Man Fuzz because it was famously used on The Who Live at Leeds show. The first track was called Young Man Blues and it was rampant on that song and a lot of the show. Check it out! Great vid, BTW.
i would absolutely LOVE one of these!!!
I am impressed of your knowledge. One more great video! Thanks Aaron! Can't wait for the next one!
this pedal sounds amazing! I'll be on the lookout for the run youre making
Yes, please keep us updated on your progress with this pedal! I would love to own one :D
I'm in!! Exploration of sound and especially pedals is extremely exciting to me. Great work 👏
This pedal you created is unreal…it sounds so good seriously. I prefer your engine pedal way over the super fuzz it just has that sound. Very well done! Thanks for creating it.
As a Nirvana fan that has also gone down the rabbit hole a bit on recreating Kurt's tones, I am impressed. I just discovered your channel a week or so ago.
Hi Aaron - the engine sounds incredible and I’d be very interested in getting my hands on one. You have done an amazing job with getting the sound and there isn’t a bad video on your channel. Truly inspirational! Thanks for all your hard work.
I have so much to talk about regarding this video, so much to unpack in this one, loved the production as always, love the engine pedal it sounds fantastic, I am super excited for the upcoming video, i hope you give us more info on the spx90, I had absolutely no idea in its usage in come as you are and lithium, the spx90 is one of my all time favourite rack fx with its lush sounding pitch detune, and dude I'm totally amazed at how you got another one of the in utero ring modulator built for you, i feel it is extremely special and you should never let go of it, I'm extremely hyped for the next upload.
Phenomenal video as always
I love that you've created the channel I couldn't/ haven't. Keep it up man. I predict huge growth for you and your channel. Peace ✌ from Scotland
dude your pedal sounds amazing!!!
I definitely want one, keep me/us updated man!!
I think a blend of both would lend something very interesting! Great work!
I’d absolutely pick up one of your pedals. Appreciate all the research you’ve done and shared. Count me in!
Your engine pedal sounds like an octave fuzz on the attack but has this harmonic percolator texture in the decay. Super cool sound
I gotta say I had that same exact feeling with the good G12T-75 you were trying in the other videos. Sounds so brutal like a berserk burning train in engulfed in flames coming at you. Got the Yamaha a while ago while watching Beato's video on Andy Wallace, that thing is magic. I'm so excited to hear your take on it! man this channel is a blessing.
Its always great to find other Nirvana nerds, especially if they know things i did not know before. Thanks for all your effort and research. I would love the engine pedal, send one over as soon as you can ;). Love and best regards from Austria
Awesome! Great job! I'd totally be interested in the Engine pedal...
Hey Aaron, absolutely love the sound of the engine. I always thought there was something extra on in utero, and this completely nailed it. If you end up doing a run on these, I would love to get my hands on one.
Would totally love one of these! Sounds killer!!
Dude! Yes! YES PLEASE!!! What you’ve done there is magnificent and the world needs it!!
Loving this channel
This is unreal. I have wanted this tone for years, please, please, please sell these.
I love everything about this video. I want the engine pedal too.
Definitely interested! I like this „falling apart“ sound.
I'd kill for one! I love the roar turned down sound, has a real cool Lo-fi quality to it
So interested in this pedal and the next video!
I would absolutely love one of these dude! Great job making a guitar sound like an engine! Love that
$30 Behringer Super Fuzz, 2 fuzz types and a cleanish boost, Vol, Bass Treble and gain controls
Awesome video like always man!
I’ve been seeking this sound for almost 30 years! Had always thought the sansamp was the pedal. Sappy 2013 mix is a good example of this sound.
Sounds so good! Please update me as for purchasing a pedal. And keep up the good work!! Great channel!!
Your research work and your achievements are very interesting, congratulations
Definitely wanna get one! Sounds amazing to me!
This is so cool man!!
I'd love to have one of these! Chasing that sound for decades now.
i'm definitely interested in your engine pedals, great sound
I will buy the engine. Love the sound! Keep up the good work & i'm looking forward to buying it when you're ready to sell👍
I'm seriously excited for what is coming in this channel, wnat to hear more about the pedal, the other one you are going to make and all the new things and YOUR OWN SONGS! I need to know... We'll have something to listen this year ? Or something for January/ march , can't wait more ! Hahaha keep up the fantastic job you're doing
This is such a sick video, I love all your stuff but ive been thinkin of buildin my own fuzz pedal but this so much cooler than anything i couldve come up with, keep up the good work
Sick dude! Like totally Limp Bizkit vibes! Ugh Ugh !
Yes I would definitely be buying The engine pedal I know exactly what sound you mean and also never been able to distinguish how.Love this video!
I’m definitely interested in buying this pedal. It sounds so cool!
Sounds awesome!
I'd love to have one of these. Great sound!
The engine sounds INSANE and I would totally pick one of those up if you did a small run!
100% down to buy one when the time comes, Aaron!
Great video man keep it up
Your videos are great, man! Keep it up. It's hard to believe you only picked up the axe a couple of years ago. And now building pedals? Wow. Looks like it's time for a pedalboard soon!!! Cheers!
I love your channel. Very unique.
I want one. I will buy one. Sounds awesome. Great work.
This is way awesome definitely interested!!
I would totally be into this and would love to buy one and see them be sold in the future!
The a-symetrical clipping is the key to the Cobain sound I think, but there is still that screwy bit crusher flanger rev… very cool it’s a secret pedal. Too cool. I’d be interested in getting one of the pedal let me know when you get a store up and start productionGreat work man!
I’m so interested! The Engine is such a good name for the sound as well!
Wow man! Outstanding job. I'd buy one if you set up a store. Great vids, too.
Looks like I'm going to have to put some money aside because if you do decide to make a batch of "The Engine" pedals I would really like one. Great work dude.
Great work, I really dig it! I'm not really the type of guy to buy pedals when I can build them myself but I'd be super interested to see the schematic and maybe even buy a PCB!
Dude, you’re phenomenal! The sound is crazy good! I wish I had your level of knowledge in building such things ❤
i'd love one of these!
Hi Aaron! The almighty youtube algorhythm brought me here. I am beyond amazed that I found your channel. Bingewatched almost all your videos and I am very interested to see what you come up with next. Your video production is INSANE and your tone recreations even more. I also enjoyed your original songs in some videos and I would really love to hear them in a full production. You gained one very happy new subscriber. Wish you all the best!
Definitely! Would like one of these!!
🤘🏼👹🤘🏼
Im in love with The Engine! I really hope you make a run of em, I want one so bad!
are you a suprer bot? How much do you cost?
If you ve done all those videos only by yourself- huge grats. Montage, sound and camerawork are insane. Pleasure to watch them :)
I would def grab one of those pedals depending on the price. Sounds awesome
I would totally order one. Nicely (or wrongly) done my friend..
I would be interested in one of these, especially if you add the quad reverb stuff to it for more tonal options. Awesome job!
Sounds great! Would love to buy one
sounds beautiful
Hey Aaron! Definitely interested in your engine pedal! Also anxious to hear what a quad reverb inspired pedal would sound like. I binge watch your tone videos over and over. I’ve learned a lot. You have great taste in music and your attention to detail is right on! Put me down for these pedals and I would like to record with them asap! I have many Nirvana style songs ready to record. These pedals will probably be on these recording. Thanx! Keep up the good work!
$30 Behringer Super fuzz, 2 fuzz eq shapes and a boost. This is nothing new or special
Hi Aaron! Definitely piqued my interest with your little invention here. Would definitely like to get my hands on one if you're still going to produce them. Keep the awesome content coming. Cheerio!
Such a cool video. I really love how that engine pedal sounds. I think it would work really well as an overdub guitar thats a little farther back in the mix and then have like a rat or sansamp on the main guitar. I would love a tone recreation of marigold or Tourette's when you get the chance.
Yea, that is a cool sound and a neat pedal. You might have to look into, which I am sure you have, what they recorded into and mics, consoles and all that stuff.
this pedal sounds so good i NEED one
Definitely want this pedal
they both sound amazing in their own way
When i hear the tones you are talking about, i hear exactly what my 64 bandmaster sounded like when it broke. It sounded so interesting when broken, i never wanted to get it fixed. I kept it in the studio just like that, when that broken fender amp tone was needed. My guess is one of Kurt’s amps was broken, and he liked the sound, and didn’t fix it.
Hey man I love the sound of the Engine pedal. I'd like to purchase one when you make a small run at them. Let me know thanks man. Awesome channel by the way
Man I had that same Randall back in high school! Would also randomly shock me when turning it on.
Def interested!
I am blown away by this. 100% interested
I definitely need this pedal!!!
I'm interested in buying one Aron can't wait!
Would love to purchase one when they come around.
I’ve been hearing this sound since the early 90’s. I loved it from day one.
Edit- the closest I can get is with a sansamp pedal I picked up forever ago and a soul food which is a Klon clone.
Also I’d want to buy one of your pedals based on the fact alone that you’ve noticed and are attempting the sound.
love your videos they inspire me a lot. you’re my favorite videomaker at the moment. also where did you find the schematics to build the superfuzz? keep it up you’re one of my idols
Dig it! Sounds sick! Def interested!
Id love to have that pedal, the in utero guitar tones are so cool
Would definitely buy one or two of these if you did a limited run. Those pedals are amazing
Amazing tone. Would definitely buy! With the roar turned up, it sounds a bit like the Boss Hyper Fuzz FZ-2
Based on the Super Fuzz circuit with some modifications, coincidentally enough.
i love the sound of that pedal if you do a run i would definitely want one
Love you videos, excellent stuff. Love the shots of Seattle too, youre video work is great reminds me of the Last Days movie. I make pedals too, I did a small clone chorus to get the come as you are sound, but think the Uni super Vox might be a cool one too as I know Sunn0))) (also Seattle) use them or based the Life Pedal from it.
WOuld be cool if you did some other tones too like early Melvins or something Seattle.
Totally interested!
I love engines and I love unique sounding guitar pedals. Kind of reminds me of a homemade sunn beta lead preamp I have. Sign me up.
Great vid and definitely interested in one of these pedals if you would be willing to send to Australia😀
Definitely interested to try one
I would loooooove to have one of these
It sounds soooo cool
Id be interested in one of these when theyre available.
