🙏 thank you for in utero and surfa rosa. Both murder 30 + years after
From 100 dollar guitar to most expensive electric guitar that's crazy!!!
i think kurt actually bought it for 25
@@CoburnSawyer I mean Eric's first guitar cost like 100 bucks not kurt😉
I wanna know how much Kurt really bought it for. I know the Jaguar was 300 so the Mustang couldn’t have been for much more
@@jakeellman7447 I think he bought it for about 25 dollars I don't remember but he bought it for around 25
@@angutimmm Don't forget inflation. That's $57.33 now, if he bought it in early 1991. It's still ridiculously cheap, but eBay wasn't a thing yet. Deals are still to be had even now, though. I was given a 1930s Supertone Acoustic for free last year, although it's *very* badly warped. It's still fixable.

💀💀💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣😁😁
Similarly, I once dreamed of Kurt sitting in my dining room. He was shaven & wearing an olive colored shirt, and was writing. The dream turned lucid and I told him I realized I was dreaming. He didn't talk to me until I said that. Only problem is, I don't remember most of what Kurt said. But was it really Kurt? Possibly not, considering I've also seen shape-shifters in dreams even when I was around 9 years old.
One shape-shifter dream I had around the age of 9 - 10 had one guy turn into a dragon. He then went into a bigger dragon's lair, and talked to the bigger dragon about changing into a dragon, saying something like he thought it would be good to have "higher thoughts" while laughing. The other dragon then ate him, I'm guessing because the bigger one was greedy and he didn't like competition. Neither dragon was the same color as the other - one was blue, one was red. I'm just not sure which was which.
Fun fact: In 2015, a study was done. It was to try to find out what the most iconic song of all time is, according to statistics. Scanning hundreds of millions of forums, blogs, newspapers, radio stations, streaming services, etc. And according to that data, the most iconic song to ever be released, is Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana.
In other words, oh my god.

I actually never thought this guitar would really see the light of day again after it was sold for around 4 million dollars.
imagine he holds the mtv unplugged guitar, $6,000,000!

@@a1d3nB That would be surreal lol
Now Eric just needs to document the Jaguar, and everything will be right
Yep!
That guy is shady.
@@sconni666How is Eric shady? Someone’s jealous.
@vintagememories6560 he means Eric Erlandson, the guy who currently owns Kurts Jag, not Eric aka NirvanaGuitars lol
@sconni666 Suprised Eric hasn't sold the Jag by now? 🤔🤔. Wonder if he still has it? @NirvanaGuitars, get on the case!
HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS (jk please do, you’re the best at documenting these)
😂 that means a lot, thank you!

YOU STOLE MY COMMENT!!!!!
Lmfaoooo breaking bad reference spotted
@@NirvanaGuitarsyou should try find a Lindell electric guitar, it was Cobain’s first.

Hes living out every nirvana fans dream
And sharing it with all of us
Absoloute legend
The fact that this became a series in less than a year, and you getting the chance to see and hold arguably the Nirvana Guitar, is amazing! The Unplugged guitar, HSB music video guitar, Vandalism Strat, Jagstang, and Jaguar would all be amazing to see in this series!! Maybe his pedals and amps(wherever they are) could be a part of this series? One day, we'll see
It's all been a dream come true, for real 😭 I will run to any Kurt gear when the opportunity presents itself!!
I would love to see him cover the Farrington Mustang. I don't know if it's still owned by the estate or sold, but it would be nice to see.
@@ginnrollins211 Ooh, for sure! But I bet it's stuffed inside the estate. Betting most of Kurt's gear is stuffed in the estate, but if Eric got a look inside the estate, would be insane. Unlikely but awesome, I think only one person was allowed in the estate, the guy who made Montage of Heck. Can't remember his name, sorry
@@NirvanaGuitars Can you imagine if you got a look inside Kurt's estate? I'm betting most of his gear is stuffed in there, but I think only one person (guy who made Montage of Heck, can't remember his name) was allowed in.
DUDE NO WAY, HE’S ACTUALLY DOING IT!
I from Russia, I love Kurt Cobain and Nirvana
You're like the Jim Cameron of Nirvana research, so good dude! This is epic
haha wow thank you so much!! 🙏
Full body chills and I'm just watching this video. Can't imagine how it must have felt being there in person.
Truly am unable to put it into words!! Tried my best to convey it in the video, but for real it was a dream come true
You should try getting to see Kurt’s Jaguar next! Edit: Ik you have a road worn so no point in the damage but it’d still be cool to meet the real deal!
That guitar to me is more iconic than eddie van halen's strat. I love that guitar with all of my heart and i cant wait to see it! ❤
Way way way more iconic.
the serial number now belongs to a 97 frontman amp according to fender's site
Very cool he was able to have time with kurts guitar.
Bro, I can't belive it, again you did a big hit, first the VMA's white guitar, then the mythic mustang from the In Utero tour and now one of the most legendary guitars of all time, I don't know you in person but I'm proud of you, I wish, really I wish that someday you can see the jaguar or the unplugged guitar, congratulations bro 🙏🏻...
This channel is the absolute best on Earth when it comes to K Co's guitars. But if there's one thing I'd like from you, dear owner, is for you to practice a bit left-handed! Believe me it's really enjoyable - I'm a lefty and playing righty always made me feel cool :D
So cool as a lefty guitarist I’m glad it’s being documented as the most famous lefty guitar of all time
Dude your documentation of Kurt's guitars from Skystang 1 till now is legendary! 🔥
Thank you Eric that was great. RIP Steve Albini
Omg.. I cried at the end there. I’m so happy for you Eric!! Thank you for sharing.
Man, this is pure legendary documenting right here! Thank you so much for sharing this with us Bro!
To whomever owns the real Kurt jaguar, now is your chance to call Eric and get a video done documenting it once & for all!!!!
Eric from Hole had it for a while. Then, according to some guys on Reddit, they reached out to Eric, and he supposedly mentioned that Frances has it now. Can't vouch for the accuracy, but that's the scoop.
@@Zentabes I've also heard that it belongs to Frances, and Courtney just loaned it to him for the video.
this will be so cool, waiting for the premiere!!!
Another great video, Eric. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with Compstang. It really is a beautiful instrument and your attention to documenting its specs is great.
"I'm not trying to be sappy." I see what you did there
They’ll give him breathing holes, thinking he’ll be happy.
great video man! thank you so much for sharing this, you truly are blessed for being able to have all these experiences :) cheers dude, thank you.
Crazy to think that Kurt paid about 20 dollars in that guitar and it literally became the most expensive guitar in the world
It was 100% more than 20 dollars 😅
Now nobody can buy one without paying “Cobain tax”
$50 at a party at Evergreen State one night.
@@MosriteVentures_ Kurt wrote in his journals that he paid 20 dollars for the comp from a guy that he saw playing in a band
Congratulations, this is awesome that you keep getting the opportunity to spend time with these guitars!
I love that this is now Ep. 3 of a series! I hope you get to document all of his guitars, including the unplugged acoustic!
Dude you are so deserving of the opportunities to document these incredible guitars. Thank you for sharing them with us.
You're living my life with all these videos and custom guitars and once in a lifetime experiences. I love this channel.
My band was lucky enough to record at Pachyderm and were amazed by the stories the owner had about the In Utero sessions. Great video, man! Congrats on living the dream!
Great Job, man!
When you hold it, it feels like we all are one step closer to this grail.
I would never want the responsibility to have this thing in my hands. As amazing as it would be. You can probably still feel the energy emanating from this thing...but for Kurt it was just a Mustang. The most bad ass in history. I had something else to add but I forgot. Oh well, whatever NeVeRmInD...
Afraid you'd scratch it? 😂
@@matthewheinecke2621 I'm more concerned that someone would get it and refinish it, taking *out* the dents and paint aging. But that's probably not going to happen.
This RUclips channel feels like its slowly being completed. Thank you for everything Eric as a Nirvana fan and as a person who appreciates passion.
Man I’m so happy for you! I’ve had an amazing time living through your journeys to such monumental and historic guitars! I am from Aberdeen Washington so Nirvana was so important to me when they exploded, I remember when Kurt passed they played the unplugged session all over tv. I also love your collection! I only have the KC Jaguar but it means everything to me! If you ever come visit the Wishkah memorial sight we should snap a pic together 🤘🏻 have a good one man!
I live vicariously through you Eric!! You are living our dreams!!!!
I’m so happy that you get to see theese iconic guitars, you are definitely deserving of it, with how much passion you have for this whole thing
Love and appreciate these videos… great breakdown and documentation…
I’m glad you get to collectively continually add to the list of the guitars you get to look at aswell…
Also, will be my first time in Seattle in fact America in a few weeks.. I can’t wait to see all those…

The fact that you got the color codes direct from the guitar is remarkable. Its a gift to anyone on that journey to created a perfect replica. Well done!

Congratulations! thats a huge life achievement ,. As a nirvana fan from the early 90s i had the same experience as you listening to SLTS for the first time.
waiting for "Vandy" and Jaguar 😶
I knew this day would come! I’m sooooo happy for you. Just today I bought 4 tortex .60s and played a cyclone(strat mustang) with them (it was the closest to a mustang there).
i cant believe that eric has not only seen skystang 1, or also seen the mtv strat, but also seeing the seen teen spirit mustang is just unbelievable. you are doing what ive always wanted to
I love your videos! Thank you for all of this information about his guitars!
How do you keep seeing his guitars?!? 🤯Your the best at documenting these!
Sick video🔥It's insane that you already got the chance to see three of his guitars. It would be crazy if you could get to document, the Vandalism strat, the Jaguar or some other gear like the Ds-1 or the quad reverb😄I was so excited to watch this video, just sad i got the dates wrong and missed the live... Love from Denmark
Thank you brother for the color codes!!! You are the man!! 💯💯
Dude! This is officially THE coolest video on RUclips!!! Man, I'm so happy you got this opportunity. As a lifelong Nirvana fan, it felt like I was there with you. I found myself saying NO WAY out loud several times.🙃
Can’t wait for the 65 Jaguar episode !
I know the guitar you mean, so don't take this as a criticism of you, because it is generally referred to as a '65 Jaguar, but I am certain that it was actually a '66. Kurt himself called it a '66 in an interview I have in an old mag, and the neck we are all familiar with is not original to the guitar. The neck it left the factory with had block inlays and binding. In '65 the necks began with dots and no binding, and then transitioned to dots and binding later in the year. Early '66 necks can also be found with dots and binding, before they transitioned to blocks and binding around mid '66. It is possible that the body has a '65 date stamp, but it wouldn't have been assembled or left the factory any time before 1966.
Amazing man congrats
What an incredible opportunity
Congrats man!
I really hope you documented the color with that special tool of yours haha
Truly love this video thank you for this video i own same guitar and have been intrigued by this one since 91 thank you for what you do
Congrats man, keep it up.
Of all kurt guitars you got to see the most iconic one. 👏
Congratulations man! A piece of history in the palms of your hands!
I’ve never felt happier for a RUclipsr, both of these experiences must be life changing
Hi Eric, I'm a big fan here in Brazil, so I thought of a shade that I think is really cool! It's the tone of the Sliver compilation - The Best Of The Box, it's a video idea that I think is cool! 😊🤟🔥

Thank you so much!!
Very, very cool. This is what happens when you dive in explore and share your passions without inhibition or apology. Great job. You deserve it and you carry all of us Nirvana/Kurt Cobain fans and guitar nuts with you.
U held the F chord down that is soooo awesome!!! Just amazing
You're living the dream that every Nirvana fan would have liked to live, getting closer to the holy grail, Kurt's guitars. As you say, they go beyond the simple fact that it is an instrument, they are real symbols. I'm really impressed that thanks to the community, this kind of video is possible, I never would have imagined better so thank you for your work. I really hope you'll be able to see more like the Jaguar and the Vandalism Strat and thrill us even more. I just have one request to make of you (which I made to you live for the skystang and you responded positively) but it would really be a good thing to be able to consult all the photos you took through a simple blog, to be able to see every detail of these guitars in good quality. The video is in 1080, it remains a classic format, sometimes I would like to be able to pause, to be able to zoom but the best are the photos in HD. That's just the little criticism I could make, thank you if you do it for the skystang and the comp!! Bravo, your investment is rewarded, you deserve it!
Great Video Loved It!
Amazing video dude! If you would’ve told me 11years ago that somebody that I know from Instagram would have the chance to hold Kurt’s competition Mustang,I wouldn’t have believed you. Beautiful close ups!
Im super excited!! Your so lucky eric
I have a feeling that this video might be one of your most popular videos soon!
this is really adorable, thank you so much for this video
congratulations man - what a buzz!
this is wild. seeing skystang and the VMA strat was already crazy. but now, *the* guitar used in possibly the most iconic songs ever made.
Awesome video, man! Larry Hall is a really great guy and we couldn't have got measurements from the guitar for the Jag-Stang research without Jim, Larry and Jacob Sheff.
Interesting to note, when I had it measured with Jacob, the nut width was slightly different than the magazine article but still in the ball park. Feel free to check out the JS thread for the measurements provided by Mr. Sheff for the nut, 1st and 12th fret thickness.
How did it feel to hold the first Jag-Stang neck?
For those wondering about the measurements taken from Jacob Sheff, they are 1.610 nut, .85 1st fret thickness, .90 12th fret thickness.
Thanks for sharing the neck specs! I'd like to add a little context to this. For many (most?) vintage Fender necks, the thinnest spot is usually closer to the 2nd fret (instead of the 1st like most brands) because of how they tapered the back of the headstock into the neck. And having seen this guitar in person (and looking for that) I can confirm that was the case here as well. I'm my experience measuring many Fender necks you can take .02-.03" off the 1st fret depth measurement for the thinnest spot. So my best guess would be:
1st- .85"
2nd- .83" then a smooth taper up to
12th- .90"
🤓
@@lomicguitars212 yep! Sounds about right to me! I would like to add that these fret measurements were taken at the center location. So for example, .85 is on the chunkier side of the neck, as you pointed out, closer to the headstock.
@@thestratman9 very good to know thanks! That sounded pretty chunky and if someone recreated a .85-.90 neck it would feel more like PRS or Gibson than vintage Fender
@@lomicguitars212 hey man, hit you up on the offset forum. Got a question about the neck.
How do you keep doing this bro, kinda insane. Happy for you!
This might sound cheesy, but it's honestly because of all you guys!! If I didn't have an audience that was hungry for footage like this, I would never be able to do what I have been doing. Forever grateful for every single viewer and supporter 💙
@@NirvanaGuitars It kinda feels that way with my work on early B-52s covers. I didn't get many comments on my only upload (4, if you count those on Facebook.) But if I upload more, it still feels like I'd be the only guy doing it as accurately as I already am, and I'd get better.
I only have a 2007 - 2008 HDD Camera for the video and audio, and that's just not up to modern spec, although it could have been worse for the time I bought it. It records in 480p, and the audio's not clipping out when I turn the amp up, so that much is good. It didn't go so well any time I tried using my older cameras that were primarily for photos, which also happened to have a video recording mode.
Glad you got to spend time with the guitar. I can imagine how excited he was to find a left handed mustang. I would love to be able to spend time with the Ferrington guitar and last telecaster.
Definitely fucking cool to see the original guitar, it’s undoubtedly one of the most iconic guitars for a reason and great video as always man
