"Cut the mop close to the hide." HAHAHAHAH That one got me! Great video brotha!
“As close to the hide” 😂😂
Been fishing this version for over a year. It’s fun to tie and it works.
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback!
You’re a legend bro! Thanks for the info and humor.
Two cameras showing the process is a good touch. I like it.
Thanks for making this man.
Love the pro tips as well as industry wide terminology such as “mopcicle”
The mopcicle is actually a real fly lol
Are use them in the mountain streams in New Jersey all the time - it’s a great fly!!!
Nice job tying it I really love your variation
Thank you!
I’ve recently been looking at variations of tying the MOP. It can be as simple or complex as you like, but I like your version with the simple addition of Ice and SwishersX Dub that gives the fly a bit of flash as well as a bit of extra action that the rubber legs adds. Cool. Thanks, James.
I love to fish it stripped down when trying to "induce a take". The pattern in this video is more imitative and has been a staple when I used to guide Chama below El Vado. Many Northern New Mexico rivers support a healthy crane fly population and this seems to do the trick. Thanks for watching!
Nice job!👍 Thanks
Nice twist on the mop. That Swisher X dubbing adds some movement. See you on the river!
Genius use of old fly line to keep your baggies of dubbing together!
That’s some genius level thinking !
"I grow these" jajajaja. Buena mosca!
I wanted to thank you for the "mop till ya DROP video. This 2022 February I got 66 trout on mostly Mop Files and Egg patterns taught by you and Huge on Trout video.
So thank you. Colors were blue, black speckled, faded pink and magenta. Fluorescent orange was no good. Eggs were clown foam mixture,( multicolored)
Keep on teaching please.
Appreciate it! Happy it worked for you. I’ve been slammed with trips but I’ll be getting some tying content out soon.
Got some good ideas here
ThankYou
Going to have to pick up that Swishers X Dub, crazy stuff 👍🏼!
It’s awesome stuff ! You can get really creative with it
I tied my 1st mop fly today. Hoping to catch a fish later when I go
I grow all my mop heads in the garage (with a black light of course). Nice video thanks!!
😂
Love the video lmao.
Do more tutorials!
Feeling mop mop mop
All the professional tie flyers hate the mop. Mainly because it catches trout, cheap and easy to tie. You are using the best color. I use A black slotted tungsten bead.
They may be junk, but they slay.I live in s.c.Pa and love tying in green as green caddis.or tan with the chocolate ice dubb.
Good stuff I’ll have to try the tan/chocolate combo
Central PA here. Caught my first brown of the season on a mop this past Sunday.
I'm missing the late '90s, early 2000s chick band background music.
Please do more tutorials!
Sweet 😅
great video and i really like your attitude, laid back surfer fly tier... i have fished mop fly's at battleship rock (Jemez River),
with great success. you use a cream colored mop for your flys. I have used blue, pink, grey, orange and black spackled (wife's rug)
is there one color that is best or does it really matter to trout?
love the videos
I use different colors but I love cream for the chama/Rio lots of crane flies. I throw a lot of chartreuse mops as well but if I had to choose one for NM waters it would be cream. Thank you for the kind words and checking out the channel.
Thanks for comments. Check out brief mop history from New Mexico trout and others www.newmexicotrout.org/mop-fly-revolution/. macbrownflyfish.com/fly-tying/history-mop-fly-mania/. I enjoyed hearing you were on the Davidson. I'm in Asheville and fished it regularly in 80's and 90's. The fishing was very good for a southern stream. The 7:00 to 9:00 pm hatch and spinner fall was great. The river is not much anymore unfortunately.
There are some serious mopfly hatches here in PA.
Some good woolly bugger hatches here too
I finally got fly tying equipment
Very easy fly to tie. Give it a shot
Walmart lover !!! =P
Walmart has the best loc-tite prices in the game
You need some ice dub for that burn.
😂
Love your videos. Are you anywhere near Taos?
I guide the San Juan 3 hours west
are mop flies too big for smaller sunfish? im assuming trout and bass have bigger jaws obviously right.
Where can I get that dark dubbing
With the rubber leg pieces? Great
Video..
Swishers x dub
Shout out to La Virgen de Guadalupe! Orale! Nice, bro. Well done. I guess living where you are you have no choice but to bump up against some Mexican/American culture, might as well embrace it, right? I don't tie flies, but I use mops. :-) Not only do they work, I love they way they stabilize the drift on a tight line rig. The mop doesn't hang up much, so it just rides like a cushy pillow along the bottom, sliding over rocks and snags, also giving your dropper a nice drift.
I am Mexican ..... well a quarter anyway my grandma is from Zacatecas. Vida fregona por todo.
@@AboutTrout I'd buy that t-shirt. LOL
I call those Cheeto midges😂😂
😂😂😂
Why do people not like the mop fly and squirmy wormy im new to fly fishing and i dont get it? If it catches fish it catches fish
Pretty sure the mop fly is an imitation of a subadult caddis.
Keep your super glue in the refrigerator and it will last much longer
Next time, please introduce your lovely dog. Also can one use silver or another color for the white bead. No one seems to have white slotted beads right now.
A mop is a fly. Not junk.
what helps me sleep when I have been "on" the mopfly, lo;, is : It pisses off the purists ;-)
Toché
you can’t bash the divinity of the Holy Mop, heretic!
ps. white bead 👀
