That's not the only ironic thing about Ego's death. His last words, "If you kill me, you'll be just like everybody else", well... that's exactly what he wanted. His whole plan of terraforming all those planets to be like him was so that he wouldn't be alone anymore. But the only reason he was alone, was because he saw himself as superior, and intrinsically better than everybody else. The reason I think why it works so well for a death like his is mostly due to the fact that Yondu never really proven himself to be a good father figure to Quill, seeing that as his biggest failure or regret, but when he finally does what he thinks is finally the first and last decent thing he does is sacrifice his own life so that Peter may live, that is why I feel this works so well, because there was no reason to feel defeat or loss for him, and when the fanfare reached its climax when Yondu puts his hands on Peter's face, it proves that he finally accomplished this seemingly impossible goal for him to achieve: to become a father. To sum it all up, Ego was very well his father by blood, but he was definitely in no means his father by heart. And it was the greatest victory of all.
1. This is very well said. Nice job 2.Yeah, I gotta agree there. The music hit me hard. Especially the triumphant bit that starts as Yondu puts his hands on Peter's face. The parallel of how in the first movie Peter gave his mask to save Gamora someone he loved, from dying out in space, and in the second movie Yondu does the same then, with the same zero hesitation. After watching this scene originally in the theater I remembered an earlier scene when they first met Ego and Drax made the comment, "I thought Yondu was your father" which at the time seemed just to be an offhand goofball comment for a laugh. Then after watching this scene it made me think that people could see the relationship that Peter couldn't.
I cried in theaters the first 5 minutes of the first GOTG as my mom was dieing of cancer.......then they kill yondu off in the second movie.....WHY YOU DO DIS 😭
That’s what a real father does for the child that’s in his care. Adopted or not. He gives puts his child’s well-being before his own. We need more fathers in the world like this.
Kurt Russel's acting in the beginning of this scene was amazing. You can hear the desperation in his voice and upon the realization that his existence depends on Peter, he tries to convince Peter one last time as a final act of desperation.
When Yondu found out Ego had been murdering his own children as they didn't inherit his Celestial origins, he kept Peter away from his father in order to protect him. This scene proved that he did see Quill is his son.
He saw his mother die He had to kill his own father He watched Yondu sacraficing for his life He had to feel the pain of losing Gamora Now I understand why he just attacked Thanos when he found out, that his love died. I feel you.

Before Yondu rescues Peter, Peter looks around himself, realizes that he is going to die, and then looks down in sadness, accepting his fate. That was fucking amazing acting by Chris Pratt
Nah dude I hate the idea of bringing back people who gave themselves in acts of bravery, it would totally take away from the weight of their sacrifice. Some people need to learn to love bitter sweet endings
Soul of Cinder yeah i totally agree with you, i hope they dont do that in infinity war, bringing back characters from the dead, say for example iron man and captain america when they die in infinity war i want them to stay dead. It only makes it a lot more interesting.
I love the fact that this links to the beginning of the first movie where young Peter’s mother dies, he runs out, falls to his knees, feeling as though his whole world has collapsed, and Yondu takes him away, which we find out in this movie was for his protection. Now as an adult, his father dies, he’s on his knees as the planet collapses around him, and Yondu takes him away again, in the process protecting him once more. Great work.
Chris Pratt is a very good Star Lord but MY GOD, Michael Rooker acts circles around him. That man just commanded the screen while he was on it. This scene was beautiful.
To defend Pratt a bit here, he was essentially asked to be himself, much like Reynolds as Deadpool. Pratt does have acting chops, but yea, Rooker has always been underrated.. I've liked him in ever role I've seen him in going back to Days of Thunder, JFK, and Mall Rats *GONG*
1:57 What makes this scene especially emotional, is that Chris Pratt lost his real life father in 2014. On set he compartmentalized his emotions to not bring everyone down as a professional. In this scene, he channeled his real life grief of his father's death, forcing himself to face his personal loss.
Also during Yondu's funeral, Chris did the same thing, and if you watch the bloopers of Yondu's actor snoring and messing up the take, Chris doesn't laugh and wipes away the tears because of how deep he reached inside himself to channel the pain.

@@ItsTimeIDisappear09 Makes me wonder what's in store for the 3rd Guardians film, particularly of what may unfold between Peter and the Gamora from the other universe - that is of course, if she decided to stick around and join the guardians under the recommendation of Nebula. Yondu a hero to stepfathers everywhere. Ironically went and saw this with my 14 year old step son, this part tore me up, it kind of got him emotional too. The hell with that stepson crap I mean my son. Since he's real father wants nothing to do with him, and has never even met him.
You be that Dad that Boy needs when he is older he will realize what you did for for him.My Stepfather took the job my own father never wanted only did I realize how much he really loved me until the last few years of his life.I wasted so much priceless time chasing after my biological father only to discover "That thing I was searching for my whole life was right next to me and I didn't even know it" to quote Starlord. That boy will come to view you as his Dad not the man who left him.
Remember when we were all pissed when he attacked Thanos in IW? Let's go down the list. 1)He watched his mom die of cancer 2)He had to kill his father after finding out he was responsible for his mom's death 3)He had to watch his only real father figure sacrifice himself 4)He had to deal with the fact that the love of his life was killed Aside from Thor, Peter's the one who had every right to just snap like that
Nope. Vol 2 was fucking terrible, filled with middle school jokes and death scenes that don't even make sense like this, lol it couldn't even win one oscar
I don't think people realize how huge Gunn being the face of DC is. This is still one of the saddest deaths in CBM history. Yondu wasn't Peter's biological father. But he cared for him like a father would.
usc trojans987 it was to him it didn't matter if he was a God. He didn't feel better nor grander than anybody. Something we should learn to do ourselves.
The guy literally had to watch his mother die slowly in front of him as a kid, then watch his father die in his arms as a man and on top of that watch the man who raised him sacrifice himself to save him. Yeah, I understand Peter for what he did in infinity war. He's been through a lot more than most.
1:30 the way quill looks at him really looks like he’s actually looking up to him as a father figure for the first time and then immediately after he dies
Exactly. Not realising that the one person, who has truly cared about you and thought of you as his own child, was there all along until minutes before he passes away.
Peter definitely cared about his friends and the universe, since he gave up his immortality and ability to make whatever he wants. That takes guts and love. And I agree with Peter. Ego: “If you kill me, you’ll be just like everybody else”. 0:15 Peter: “What’s so wrong with that?” 0:22
Yeah because with Yondu it felt permanent. How that we know time travel is a thing, there’s no reason they can’t just go back an hour before Tony dies and just bring him to the future since changing the past doesn’t change the future.
@@danielcarithers3345 Changing the past literally changes the future of both timelines. To bring Tony back, they’d have to remove him from one of the multiverses. And without Tony, that timeline will fall into chaos. Did you watch the movie at all?
@@spurslegacy Did it though? We saw that Steve went back through time to live with Peggy, that act did not break both timelines? The prime, where he was still supposed to be young in the present AND the alternate one, cause he kinda never dissapeared, so noone was looking for that version of him, which means that Thor probably killed Tony the first time they met(in the first Avengers movie, when Thor took Loki out of the plane). Not to mention that no Hulk would most likely exists, cause Hulk was a result of Banner trying to recreate Super Soldier Serum(at least if i remember correctly). And what about past Thanos, who was turned to ash by Tony? That act could also brake the timeline, since he was supposed to be alive for at least another 6 years. Gamora? She never returned to her timeline, from which Thanos came. She is also an "abberation" in the prime timeline. Alternate Nebula? Also dead. Your argument would be valid, if there weren't so many characters, who are already out of their original timelines. But there are literally THOUSANDS of minor beings(Thanos army) who were wiped, on top of the many "major" characters, who were either killed(Thanos, Black Order, Nebula) or displaced(Gamora, Loki). But if you watched Loki, you know why that does not matter. Cause TVA "pruned" those alternate timelines, so that the only one that mattered was the PRIME timeline.
Yondu was my favorite MCU character, and as heartbreaking his death was, it was probably the best death scene yet. It's a shame we most likely won't see any of him in Infinity War... See you in the stars, Yondu.
This was incredible, I had lost my own step father over 5 years ago now, and I'm so happy that I got this to see this in cinema and wasn't spoiled for me so unexpected and deep wasn't ashamed of babbling like a girl at all
So far this year, we've had three major characters die in a comic book film who gave up their lives to save others or someone they cared for personally. SPOILERS! Logan: Logan... gave up his life for Laura and the other mutant children. His final words: "So... this is what it feels like." Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2: Yondu... sacrificed himself for Peter while telling him how he truly cared about him. His final words: "He may have been your father, boy... but he wasn't your daddy. I'm sorry I didn't do any it right. I'm damn lucky you're my boy." And Wonder Woman: Steve Trevor... sacrificed himself to blow up the plane filled with bombs to stop them from being dropped in England, saving countless lives and confessing his love for Diana before he died. His final words: "It has to be me. I can save today, you can save tomorrow. I wish we had more time... I love you!" Whose death made you cry the most??? Me... I can't decide. They're all sad and well-done in their own way.
This movie had me in tears way more than I expected lol I even kinda lost it during the "You shouldn't have killed my mom and squished my walkman.." part
Yondu was like a dad to Star Lord, like Prof X was to Logan. But i find Logan and Prof X death more sad simply, because the scene was quiet with music silently playing, while Yondus death loud and epic music was playing

Especially someone like Drax, who lost his family.
Yondu's death was still very, very sad on it's own but I think Chris Pratt really sold it with his reaction.

Kurt Russel's acting in the beginning of this scene was amazing. You can hear the desperation in his voice and upon the realization that his existence depends on Peter, he tries to convince Peter one last time as a final act of desperation.
Ego died begging Peter to let him live
Yondu died telling Peter to stay alive

When Yondu found out Ego had been murdering his own children as they didn't inherit his Celestial origins, he kept Peter away from his father in order to protect him. This scene proved that he did see Quill is his son.
The way Yondu pats Peter's cheek like. "It'll be ok..." Is heartbreaking
He saw his mother die

@Andre G Rookers a great actor. Always loved him as Merle in TWD as well!
1:57
What makes this scene especially emotional, is that Chris Pratt lost his real life father in 2014. On set he compartmentalized his emotions to not bring everyone down as a professional. In this scene, he channeled his real life grief of his father's death, forcing himself to face his personal loss.
Is that why I'm crying?
I hope Michael Rourker gave Chris Pratt a hug after they were done filming this scene.
Also during Yondu's funeral, Chris did the same thing, and if you watch the bloopers of Yondu's actor snoring and messing up the take, Chris doesn't laugh and wipes away the tears because of how deep he reached inside himself to channel the pain.

Yeah because with Yondu it felt permanent. How that we know time travel is a thing, there’s no reason they can’t just go back an hour before Tony dies and just bring him to the future since changing the past doesn’t change the future.
@@danielcarithers3345 what a dumb comment
@@danielcarithers3345 Changing the past literally changes the future of both timelines. To bring Tony back, they’d have to remove him from one of the multiverses. And without Tony, that timeline will fall into chaos.
Did you watch the movie at all?
@@spurslegacy first day first show
Your reply is quite irrelevant to what i said
@@spurslegacy Did it though?

Logan: Logan... gave up his life for Laura and the other mutant children. His final words:
"So... this is what it feels like."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2: Yondu... sacrificed himself for Peter while telling him how he truly cared about him. His final words:
"He may have been your father, boy... but he wasn't your daddy. I'm sorry I didn't do any it right. I'm damn lucky you're my boy."
And Wonder Woman: Steve Trevor... sacrificed himself to blow up the plane filled with bombs to stop them from being dropped in England, saving countless lives and confessing his love for Diana before he died. His final words:
"It has to be me. I can save today, you can save tomorrow. I wish we had more time... I love you!"
