I remember the quotes when pausing these games, I'm pretty sure 2 had a line like "go see what she wants" which freaked me out because my mom was calling for me when I heard it
another unexplained mechanic is that if you hold down the speed button in slow mo you move faster giving you more space to cover over enemies which is a neat trick
You can even use all 3 powers at once (though it devours your V-Metre) for superstrong, normal speed, attacks while everyone else is stuck in slow-motion.
I got a demo for Viewtiful Joe back in the day. It was literally just the first stage. I played that demo at least 20 times in 2 days, and then bought the game. This game fucking twisted my nuts and I loved it.
@pisssommelier768 if you're referring to the Gamecube Demo Disk, it was Sonic Adventure DX, not Sonic '06. Man, that disc had slcoverage of some legendary games on it. Viewtiful Joe, Splinter Cell, The Wind Waker, WarioWare, F-Zero GX, Soul Calibur II, Star Wars Rogue Squadron III....all such legendary hits!!!
I feel like I just tell you're getting so much better at writing these. It's nice to see someone break away from the "explain the plot and levels in chronological order" routine
Just in case anyone didn’t know, you can zoom in and mash upper cut while you’re in slow and just completely drain a boss. It’s insane I highly recommend if you’re stuck.
Played this for the first time when I was 8 and it is still one of my most enjoyable playthroughs of any game. His powers are smooth, yet explosive, and mastering the dodge system makes you feel untouchable. VIEWTIFUL JOE FULL REMASTER PLEASE Team Clover (Platinum Games) and Capcom!!
That cinema sins at 4:48 caught me off guard and I was laughing so much. But anyway, I remember first experiencing Viewtiful Joe on my GameCube demo disc. And eventually I got both 1 & 2 as a Christmas gift. As I played the first level, the Soundtrack clicked with me, and made sure these games soundtracks will have a Red Hot place in my heart until the day I die. These games will be in my memories as the games that weren’t afraid to be new concepts and weren’t guaranteed to sell well. I appreciate that a lot, and I wish more devs and producers could possibly adopt this mentality. VJ 1 & 2 are treasures.
Correct. The Wonderful 101 is the tribute to Super Sentai/Power Rangers and there’s an Ultraman tribute game coming out supposedly something after Bayonetta 3 codenamed “Project A Go Go”
I appreciate this video a lot. The complaints on zoom punches doing the most damage seem to miss that going for those tanks your score compared to building up points outside of slow-mo and cashing it all in at once with Joe's strongest moves.
It's funny because I played the DS Viewtiful Joe as a kid growing up, and remember enjoying it though I didn't get very far. Just the other day I randomly started thinking about this dude and how I really need to go back and fully appreciate this series, then lo and behold, the absolute lad that is KBash drops this.
I remember reading about the first one in EGM and being stoked for it. Picked it up for GCN and PS2, couldn't resist Dante. Liked 2 also so I was really bummed out when it was halted. Really cool game, underrated af.
Wow this sure takes me back, I remember liking Viewtiful when I was younger. I even made a Manga Character and gave him the Red Hot Kick (I called it something else tho but functioned the same).
Man, Hearing this game, was my literally childhood. I loved it brings me back, the amount of my butt getting kicked over and over again! The comic strip graphic is also an Okami HD classic and i absolutely love it! This bring me back. I love this game and still have it for the GameCube! Haha!
I disagree about Sylvia. I found her very useful, and sort of an "easy mode" character during my playthrough. She's very handy in boss fights because of her long distance attack and you can cheese enemies if you know what you're doing.
Man i'm glad i'm not the only person found sylvia to be easier than joe in the early levels. Upgrade her to dual wield and she becomes a combo machine for Vpoints.
RUclips must have buried this video because I have the bell on for you and still didn't get a notif for this video, nor saw it in my recommended until now Anyway, awesome to see this game covered! Time to watch
I agree with you. 1 was so much fun, had all the unlockables and stuff, the type of game you finish for the first time and go straight to a second playthrough. Also Dante, it was so fun to play as him. But the second bored me quite fast and i really disliked being forced to use Silvia since the little fun the game had was within Joe. I dropped it and plan to try again some time, but i don't think i will ever finish it since basically playing VJ 2 is resumed to "I wish i was playing 1 instead". 2 didn't even had any unlockable characters, while 1 had 4 if you include Dante. It was a huge step down, but i think it would be nice to give this "series" a second try and properly finish it like it was supposed to, but that will most likely never happen. Such a shame. Same situation as God Hand, another god tier game made by the same studio that will never see the light of day ever again, but that game never even had the chance for a sequel. Clover Studios gifted us with some very good stuff, even if it didn't last long. At least they turned into Platinum and are on the market delivering some good games till this day.
Good video. Never played Viewtiful Joe and probably never will, but I'm an DMC and (to a lesser extent) Platinum fan, so glad to know the story. Also, for some reason I find it always awesome how you read the names at the end. Never fails to get me in a good mood. Fave two are definitely simp GOD and Yeet Kune Do, those two just have so much *power* behind them.
i YELLED when i saw this upload in my sub box!!!! View full Joe has always been a cult classic that pays respects to it's predecessors by really making us FEEL like a true hero of a movie!! This game deserves sooooo much more love and praise, i'm hoping this is one of those games that gets funded back by the community into today's gaming culture again 🤞🏼
Around the 25 min mark you reminded me of something I wondered as a kid. Was the running gag that they wanted Viewtiful Joe to be like what Spaceballs said they were going to be?
Oh so thats what this game is about??? I always saw it but honestly had no clue what it was actually. I for sure got to check this game out now, I love my ball buster action games. Awesome video as always!
I'm ashamed to admit as a huge fan of Kamiya and stylish action in general that I haven't played VT all the way through. Think I'm gonna correct with that the PS2 version for Dante after watching this video now that I know what to expect, though.
Last thing I wanna chime in on. For the first fights with Big John and Miss Bloody Rachel, the big damage dealer is to camp out next to the big dumb dino when he calls for the artillery and then coast on Slow for the blast of the exploding shells to hurt him while ducking harm to yourself.
Funny thing about the Fire Leo fight. I never got a proper handle on the dodging system for my entire run of the game as a kid. So after Leo started doing the tornado spin thing after losing his shield, I’d hurt him by doing hit and run tactics. As for “hit” part of that brutality, I’d jump in the air and do a Slow ground stomp thing in Zoom, which causes a shockwave that hurts surrounding enemies for scratch damage. I literally could not fathom another way to hurt Fire Leo so that was my go-to on hurting him till he’d jump back into the lava to reset his battle cycle. Easier said than done since his other gimmick was getting faster and more aggressive the more he got hurt. On a similar note, I took out his big brother Frost Tiger in 2 by camping on the bottom layer of the arena and just shooting the side he’d swipe at me from with Silvia for a lot of tedious scratch damage.
I am so happy there is this video ❤️ I actually was one of the kids who played viewtiful Joe and all the spin offs for the characters and the whole world of it all, I get it it's not for everyone but this was my crash bandicoot, Spyro, Mario game when I was younger and happy someone is talking about it 😂
Joe being a big movie nerd and hyper obsessed with his hero was literally the first character I saw myself as and I do love this series a lot. The anime was good I was lucky to get all four the games and really wish they bring back and be able to wrap us as he wanted too. This series should at least get a remaster for people to try and get more of a audience.
i liked the story quite a bit even in 2, now on a plot synopsis, it's pretty lame, but Joe really makes it, as his interactions with everyone are entertaining as hell, in 2, even though i agree that Joe being scared of Sylvia is overdone, is still kind of hilarious when he was able to stare down bosses and joke around with them.
Viewtiful Joe was such a wonderful game. I found brand new copies of both games on PS2 at a game store years ago. I played the hell out of the first one and enjoyed every second of it. Then I popped in the second one, beat the first boss, and never touched it again.
Thank you for making this. I just beat the first part of the first game and I’m so tired.. It just seems unnecessarily difficult, and it’s making me go insane. 💀
Beating this game on Ultra V-Ratee and unlocking the ability to play as Captain Blue is easily the hardest gaming challenge that I've actually accomplished, followed by beating Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge both on Very Hard, beating Halo 2 on Legendary co-op, and soloing Halo 4 on Legendary. Those games are tough, but Viewtiful Joe games are a SERIOUSLY underrated challenge!!
This and Golden sun are franchises that I want them to release just ONE more damn game, just ONE, no strange revival or experimentation, just continue the story and keep the same good gameplay and tie all loose ends, that's it... please. And no, the DS VJ game was not the direct continuation.
I remember I played this game(Joe 1, never played the second) on ultra V-Rated mode with and without the new game+ carrying the powerups and yes it was intense and I was a masochist teenager, but hey it was fun, just like Yggdra Union Gba, this became became my reference for difficulty level in games.
Kamiya on his RUclips channel kept saying that he'd love for CAP to get him back just to make VJ3. Nobody cares, though. CAPCOM is too busy remaking RE games and swarming the world with needless Monster Hunter shit.
Yk what we could do. . . .lowkey, we need to find a way to get the gaming brit, foxcade, and other character action game reviewers on this game. They have audeinces that are MASSIVE compared to k bash, and combined kbash and someone else like Matt Mc Muscles can really make an impact. Unlike other gaming genres, character action game devs actually enjoy making the game and enjoy action games, least it comes off that way. So if we can show Kamiya that people like viewtiful joe with some type of remake that'd be dope.
Mann I remember attempting to get all Vs on each section. Never went all the way but I know I got the first stage Rainbow V'd. Did beat V-rated mode at least. Man, Good times with the first game. I hated those robo-Leos though. The Viewtiful World song at the end was worth the effort young-me put into the game. CUT! CUT! CUT!
God I love Viiewtiful Joe, I remember the one thing i loved to do in this game was slow uppercut into machspeed just as the punch hit and the enemy was sent to the moon...so much fun.
i feel so validated... i played this game when i was younger, and i just... thought it was boring and, like... too hard to have fun...? idk, yeah, like, i could tell that the game is easier if i play in slow-mo, but it also isn't as fun if you play in slow-mo? so idk. great job with the video! just finished watching it. :)
This legend will always have a massive spot in my heart that burns with the fury of 1000 mach speed Red Hot Kicks
I remember the quotes when pausing these games, I'm pretty sure 2 had a line like "go see what she wants" which freaked me out because my mom was calling for me when I heard it
Bro same or when he would say “grab me a soda” when I was indeed doing just that 😮
"Is it number one or number 2"
“Hey, where you going?”
"Pee break? _Again?"_ No, _Blue,_ I'm resting my FINGERS!
😂😂
"from cutting edge to bleeding wound" is such a great line.
Great work as always KBash
another unexplained mechanic is that if you hold down the speed button in slow mo you move faster giving you more space to cover over enemies which is a neat trick
For me, the demo was Viewtiful Joe 2. Then I got the full game and, well, the rest is history.
@@TMEthan me as well😂, and I was shocked to find out it had an anime
Same disk, the one that included sonic06 and splinter cells first levels?
@@pisssommelier768 YES DUDE THAT WAS MY CHILDHOOD!!!!
@pisssommelier768 if you're referring to the Gamecube Demo Disk, it was Sonic Adventure DX, not Sonic '06. Man, that disc had slcoverage of some legendary games on it. I feel like I just tell you're getting so much better at writing these. It's nice to see someone break away from the "explain the plot and levels in chronological order" routine
Right? I hate that for some reason people think that retrospective means explain the plot moment to moment and do absolutely nothing else
Just in case anyone didn’t know, you can zoom in and mash upper cut while you’re in slow and just completely drain a boss. It’s insane I highly recommend if you’re stuck.

It's a long scarf, not a cape. Could be an homage to Kamen Rider.
It sure is. HENSHIN!
I get a ton of points with zoom in punches. maybe not the most but a ton
Wow, ANOTHER mechanic I wasnt aware of until 20 years later
No it doesn't I get max ranks by quickly using those punches at appropriate times
This is Kino.
I've met Kamiya myself, and he signed my copy of VJ as soon as he saw it.
It is a personal treasure.
I love the Viewtiful Joe games so fucking much; definitely 2 of my favorite games of all time. So glad you covered these.
I remember watching the anime on Cartoon Network when I was a kid, they actually gave it a pretty satisfying conclusion from what I remember.
I know you are joking, but Joe has a scarf not a cape. To further the Kamen Rider comparisons.
That last shot?
Absolutely iconic.
My biggest flex is beating the second game without saving, no memory card lmao
Not to brag but I didn’t know anyone else did this but I beat LOZ: Twilight princess without saving, also no memory card
I LOVEd THE FACT YOU TACKLED THIS SERIES!! I love the first and second game so dearly!! never had the spinoffs but omg ^^
I love these games to death they need to at least give us an HD collection
Always love seeing that you've made a new video kbash. I've been mildly curious about viewtiful joe for ages too
I just got married yesterday. I'm sitting here with my wife watching this video and I'm happy. Not really related to the video but I wanted to share.
I remember and bought Red Hot Rumble. As an appreciator of Smash-likes, I thoroughly enjoyed that game. I wish Viewtiful Joe was in Smash Bros.
I remember reading about the first one in EGM and being stoked for it. Picked it up for GCN and PS2, couldn't resist Dante. Liked 2 also so I was really bummed out when it was halted. Really cool game, underrated af.
Kbash: says Woman
The video: Starts buffering infinitely
KBash videos are the most wonderful times of the year
Wow this sure takes me back, I remember liking Viewtiful when I was younger. I even made a Manga Character and gave him the Red Hot Kick (I called it something else tho but functioned the same).
Damn dude! Almost at that 100k! Fuck yeah!
Hey, I too am trying to keep the term "butthurt" going. Thanks for keeping the torch lit

Instant Replay + Tetsuzanko actually annihilated bosses in my playthrough
RUclips must have buried this video because I have the bell on for you and still didn't get a notif for this video, nor saw it in my recommended until now
Anyway, awesome to see this game covered! Time to watch
Surely we'll be getting Custom Robo next.............................right?
Also fantastic job! This game is awesome.
Now THIS is an example of genius combat depth. The style is so damn sick as well.
I agree with you. 1 was so much fun, had all the unlockables and stuff, the type of game you finish for the first time and go straight to a second playthrough. Also Dante, it was so fun to play as him.

The ending of Double Trouble was surprisingly touching.
I miss this dood, he was so rad and the SOUNDTRACK WAS PHENOMENAL

That pose at the end is so amazing. It make me want to do it in public.
I hope this gets shown to CinemaSins, 😆
Also, great return of WIIIFE
I remember grinding for all Rainbow Vs in this game as a kid...*shudders*
Always a blast. Love the format.
Love you kbash hope you keep the videos coming even if I haven't played the game I like enjoying it through you!
It's the tv series that made it for me. I remember that series fondly

appreciate the discussion on how the game really does not treat its players well through its design. it kicks ass, frustratingly so. cool vid!
Around the 25 min mark you reminded me of something I wondered as a kid. Was the running gag that they wanted Viewtiful Joe to be like what Spaceballs said they were going to be?

I guess you can say, before Erica revealed herself to be the Dark Overlord, K thought he was...... Home Alone. *ba dum tiss*
How tf did I not get a notification for this 2 months ago
I had a ton of fun playing and reviewing the series all those years ago. Then God Hand came out, and I completely forgot about it.
Felt exactly the same way playing darkest dungeon, takes time to get good at it but once youre in the flow you just never want it to stop.
What cool and hilarious video about a game I used to love as a kid. Wanted to know more about the history of this game and found this. Love it, subbed
The brightest candle truly burnt out the fastest
Can confirm, played Viewtiful Joe 2 as a kid and never could make it very hard. Absolutely loved the game though
You going up those stairs genuinely scared me
Holy shit what a gem! Nice one Kbash underrated games imo

I didn’t knew that no more heroes 3 got the phrase from viewfiful Joe until a couple days ago, when I first played the game.

This was actually kinda fun to watch.
Im hanging around
Man I wish I hope they bring it back. I had 2 on ps2 and played it so much and miss it so.
You legend 🤩 thank you for giving these games some spotlight. Love your vids keep it up 🙌
Games like this made me proud to be a Gamecube owner.
Had this as a kid. I beat it like 20 times. Just couldn't stop playing it.
this franchise means the world to me. also i ADORED Red Hot Rumble so much
Still uave my copy of this game. Being a collector always pays off because now I'm gonna replay this when I get home
Lmao dude this had me cracking up! i just downloaded both on my emulator great review!
My dream squad would be V-Joe, Travis Touchdown, and that chameleon guy from bloody roar.
I LOOOOOVE Viewtiful Joe. I hope he can make a comeback
Thank you for making this. I just beat the first part of the first game and I’m so tired..
It just seems unnecessarily difficult, and it’s making me go insane. 💀
Lmfao same capcom thought we were gods back then
My boi! Man I miss this series. Hope to see him in more fighting games.
I was today’s April 29th 2023 years old when I found out he was saying kenshin a go go. For two decades I thought he said catching a go go

I always thought Viewtiful Joe said “X to the O O baby!”Instead of “Henshin a go-go...” Makes a lot of sense considering the contexts.
"little blue things" LITTLE BLUE THINGS!? They're movie reels kbash
Viewtiful Joe is one of my alltime favs
Can confirm I fully played Viewtiful Joe 2 as Sylvia whenever possible*
I've been a gamer for two decades and I had no idea what in the world a Viewtiful Joe is.
This series and Okami need a revival
What I would give for a Viewtiful Joe 3.
I like to think that maybe someday in the future we’ll see Viewtiful Joe return…
Kamiya on his RUclips channel kept saying that he'd love for CAP to get him back just to make VJ3.
Nobody cares, though. CAPCOM is too busy remaking RE games and swarming the world with needless Monster Hunter shit.

I have something in common in that I'm a small stair gremlin as well.
