I don’t usually just plop the whole styled room down, but I LOVE the ability to pull items out of a styled room. So if I am making an art studio, or I super quickly want to furnish a dining room, I can open the styled room tool and pull the furnishings out to place into my room, without ever placing the room. This can also be a super great way to utilize the career reward objects - because the career rooms with often have the career reward objects all in 1 or 2 rooms for that career, making it super easy to find them.
back in my early sims days i learned how to use build-buy mode by piecing together base game styled rooms like a puzzle, adjusting doors and windows to fit, and roofing it. not a bad way to learn how to play the game, i’m kinda glad the sims team still makes these, even though it’s been years since i’ve personally thought about them.
I was the exact same lol. Back in 2018 when I first got the game lI just yeeted a bunch of styled rooms together and called it a house lol. Wish I saved it to my library, that would be something to look back on
I just want to say that my favorite thing about you, is that you make your own challenges and ask repeatedly "Is this allowed?" "Can I do that?" "Is it ok if I do this...?" Haha, you're adorable.
@leticiaem it's a stove hood with a light in it, that's why it's in build buy with stove hoods and not with lights, so yeah it lights up the room but it the extractor fan may be problematic in that position
little bit of me lore - i was the one who petitioned the sim gurus for the toddler room seen in the promotional photos way back when toddlers were released to be added as a styled room in game! back when i was really active in the sims community. i like to think i had a tiny impact on the game haha
learning i can just click on the items in the styled rooms changed my building tbh. sometimes i dont want to put too much time into thinking about what to do for a room so i go to a styled room and use the items to decorate the room. as a nonbuilder who hates scrolling through everything in build mode, its a time saver! (especially for bathrooms)
I like building and even *I* get overwhelmed when a new pack drops. I want to use *most* if not *all* of the furniture but I get so overwhelmed and I miss things. This is genius
tbf the quality of the styled rooms design got a little better since launch- it used to be soooo much worse; doing this challenge was actually a challenge edit: having that said, they're still a mess lmao
Okay, but Rags to Riches, but you can only buy furniture etc through styled rooms! So you've got to save up until you can buy a room and then the next. Really got to prioritise then.
When I first started building in the sims (and sometimes I still do) because you can select individual items in the premade rooms, I would use it as a quick way to build a house without having to figure out from scratch a whole building style, but still manage to get creative and add my own touch!!
Ngl, I sometimes use the styled rooms as like a color pallett. Since you can literally just drag whatever you want out of it, you can pick a room where you like the colors and items used and then make a room based on that I dont think my wording makes sense but whatever
Was hoping to see other swatches! Some of the pre made rooms have a totally different vibe with some of the other swatches. Also please be kind to yourself! Stop saying your builds look bad all the time. You are one of the best builders in the sims community and you have built houses for EA games, officially. Be proud of yourself! You are a good builder!
14:47 that's literally the house i built for the first time i started playing sims 4 😭 no trees barely any windows no landscaping just a house and lots of rooms
I plop these rooms down like a puzzle when I want a quick house or if I’m making a huge family and just need to expand their house quickly. It’s also neat for quick apartments where it’s even more of a puzzle, because you have to fit the existing space. I’ve also had my kids build houses using these rooms then we change the swatches, add clutter, figure out roofing, landscape, etc. since it’s easier for them than a full build.
I think the house is actually super nice!! Yeah the rooms are very varied but that's part of its charm. Also I never knew you could pull stuff out of the styled room illustration!
IDEA FOR A CHALLENGE! Kind of like the shell challenge but instead of the "shell" being the house it's instead the landscape. You can build whatever house you can fit WITHOUT moving the trees/ponds/ other natural features.
This video made my heart happy. This is how I build since I struggle with the controls on how to build normally. My brain just is a bit different. Thank you simsy for this video! You did a great job! ❤
I did this once with a legacy challenge, since I cannot build a house to save my life, it actually turned out quite well! It was fun adding every room as I made more and more money. Great job Simsie! You have a gift for building, I often use your builds!
Ooo! I think that taking all the furniture, decor, and the wall and floor choice out of a styled room and into a room of a shell could be fun! You have your colors and scheme already picked out and it could make for a fast decorating of a shell!
This is such a fun concept! And I think you allowed yourself just enough adjustment to make the house work, without altering what made each styled room what it was in the first place 🥰
I sometimes use styled rooms in new builds because I'm not a builder and I don't often have the patience or energy to build a house from scratch. if I can't find what I want on the gallery, I place a few essential rooms and then build around them. this helps me to cut down on build time immensely. I hope you did put this on the gallery because I want it! I don't have all the packs but I'll fill it in with what I have haha 😅
I really like these styled rooms, because sometimes I'll spend some time designing a house, go to actually play in it and realise I've forgotten something, or then as the game goes on you need to adjust. I was playing with another family in one save, went back to the original family and boom, surprise baby. Couldn't be arsed to build/decorate a whole new room for the kid, just wanted to play so the pre-decorated newborn room really came in clutch. Same for adding tiny bathrooms as the family expands.
This was the only way I knew how to build when I first started the sims but I’m glad I found your channel bc you have taught me a lot to make builds better
Styled rooms and styled looks are both super helpful in that they often put things together that I wouldn't have originally thought of or helps highlight what all is in the pack!
The way I use styled rooms is not as a whole unit, but kind of for bits and pieces and for floor-wall swatch combos. When you click on a room, and it appears in the lower right corner like that, you can click on individual items in the room and it's like the eyedropper where you get just that item / wallpaper and can place them individually. I'll have my own floorplan already laid out, and will be working on the dining room, and I'll just go to the styled rooms for dining rooms and scroll through them for ideas and just grab items of furniture or whatever, and use that.
I remember when I accidentally discovered these pre-made rooms in The Sims 2, it blew my mind!!! But I´ve never really played with them, I loved to build.
I love the idea of this challenge! Maybe if you ever decide to revisit it you could change the rules slightly? Id love to see you use the styled rooms but youre allowed to change the room shapes, window/door placements, and color swatches but you cant delete or add anything.
I've wanted to see creators use this feature more, especially since so many people upload rooms to the gallery, but I rarely see people use them, only full builds.
I think it would be cool to see you redo the rooms like. Make a new shell and use all the same furniture to make a better room and maybe a more congruent house. I feel like its something you would be really good at.
I would love to see a reno of this house now! Like a new family moves in with all new furniture and maybe a bit of money to afford like...rennovating the kitchen and bathrooms, but pretty much keeping the walls exactly as they are short of like, "we chose to take out the wall between the hallway and the living room" type thing. But you dont have to keep the rooms as what they were if you want the living room to go in say the space for the art studio, or something. Anyway, you did great!
I love your channel!! And I think it would be cool for you to make a video using this shell of this house, but able to do the inside however you want!! Personally I love the exterior btw
I used to do this before I started to learn how to build my own houses that aren't just rectangles (only within the last two years). I'm still not the best builder (I struggle with floor plan A LOT) but I'm miles better than when I made puzzle pieces with mismatched aesthetics.
I like to challenge myself by getting a styled room and then styling a house around it. It's easier than what you did there but you have to stick to the style.
you know what i never thought of it but i bet styled rooms are super helpful to figure out floor plans and also helping with skill building furnishing/rooms
I never use styled rooms but i have recently been using rooms from the gallery! started a new legacy challenge and whenever i don’t feel like furnishing a room when a kid grows up, i’ve just found one on the gallery, been having a lot of fun with it 🥰
Challenge!!! You should build a house using infinite money but you are not allowed to know how much it costs but you have to get it as close to a certain number e.g 50000 without looking
i like to look at the layouts and maybe copy them if i’m feeling lazy!! i don’t usually place the *whole* room but like kayla said looking at how the furniture looks together and getting an idea of a layout is a great purpose for these rooms :)
I love this I used to do this when I first started playing sims4 and this was always me like wtf am I doing 😭 but i really like what you did! You should do this again it’s like watching someone play Tetris or load the dishwasher lol
I think it would be a fun challenge to use the styled rooms to decide what items you can use. Like you have to use all the items that come in a styled room but you can move items and change the swatches. It would give you more freedom but still limited
I feel like no one uses the Pre-Designed Rooms until this challenge came out YEARS AGO. I am have convinced the only people that do are people fresh to the game, they might place a room down and then tweak it, or the Devs themselves for the box art when a pack is released.
I drag and drop stuff from them all the time. I'm not a builder and have no imagination to create a room myself, though I think k I've improved over the years watching builder videos
You ought to make a challenge where people have to build using the style rooms and set up parameters like, hallways are allowed to be made, or you can move things with in a room, but you cannot get rid of anything, or something like that. It would be fun to do a challenge like that and it would be fun to see what other people come up with. If you make up a challenge like that, I would love to do it. Another thing could be it must have at least three bedrooms and two baths or you have to have, a music room or whatever and you use the packs that you have. I would enjoy trying to do it.
idk how to explain it but this house is like a house you would see a family live in on disney channel. the layout reminds me of that
yeahh😲

The art studio for sure, I have no idea where that little table is in the catalog because I always just grab it from the styled room

the styled kitchen with the vent hood over the island chairs instead of the stove was a very interesting choice...
right are they trying to give them a blowout for their hair 😭💀
that was my thought 😭😭 the vent hood is so random
That vent is actually a light in the format of a stove hood
@leticiaem it's a stove hood with a light in it, that's why it's in build buy with stove hoods and not with lights, so yeah it lights up the room but it the extractor fan may be problematic in that position
