I29 Winter Storm Southeast North Dakota Spinouts - 2/21/2022

- Heavy snowfall and strong winds created difficult travel for morning commuters south of Fargo, ND to the SD border on Interstate 29. Multiple were seen in the ditch or median, one tow in progress was captured on camera.
Shot Description
1) A vehicle being aggressively towed (tow strap breaks at first snapping back at pickup) out of the median of I-29 by a pickup. Unfortunate damage to the vehicles bumper. Near Galchutt, ND
2) A look down I-29 at conditions in the same area at northbound traffic
3) Multiple scenes of vehicles stuck off in ditches or median on I-29
4) Overhead look at snow packed I-29 at the Galchutt overpass
5) Huge drifts accumulate from wind driven snow on overpasses.

My son and wife were close to Sidney , Montana coming to see me in Watford City N.D. it was minus 20 and the alternator went out at night , The car died with no heat , I called the Montana State Patrol and they were there in less then 10 minutes to get them into a warm patrol car . WE SHOULD ALL BE THANKFULL FOR OUR POLICE
Sad story with a great ending. Could have been deadly.
My husband worked in Watford for a few years. I hated him traveling in winter. I'm so thankful he's not up there anymore. Glad your wife and son got the help they needed!

Seen several of these winter storm videos, and it amazes me to see cars without headlights on!
Spring and summer...you fill the freezer, stock up on everything, got pets...get enough for them too. Winter comes...sit back, stay warm and cozy...and so do your pets. (people laughed at me for having 9 cases of wet food, 8 big bags of dry, and 180 lbs. of cat litter)

180 pounds of cat litter? How many cats y'all got? Or are they mountain lions? I have a bunch of barn cats
@@vicki9126 When we got the first covid check thingie...they laughed. They went out, got new beds, furniture, clothes, took a trip etc. Me ? I stocked my freezer and the one in the fridge. Then bought my pantry items, bathroom items, cleaning supplies, personal, and wet cat food, as well as bags of dry and cat litter. Still had money left. Did the same thing on the other check. I am fully stocked in everything I need (and the fur babies) and again had money left over. I tried to tell people things are going to go up...but oh no. Now some worry about getting this and that...not my problem...they had the same chance as I did...they chose to spend carelessly...I did not.
@@cierakitty 👏👏👏 No you did not. Isn't it a good feeling that you don't have to worry about all that stuff because it's taken care of?? Things are not getting any better imo. I just had Covid & Bronchitis at the same time and it took 2 and a half weeks to get better. You spend your money wisely.
@@vicki9126 Sure is. Cold, rainy days...I'm snug as a bug and neighbors are going to the stores. One friend calls me "Ant"....she says I am like an ant...I store up for the winter. I also do not have to worry about being in crowds. Someone asked...how did you handle Christmas if you didn't go shopping...I gave cash.

I remember driving cross country a couple winters ago and they are RECKLESS. They'll speed up behind you and switch lanes at the very last second even when roads are disgusting. Just before they hit you, sh*t gave me ptsd of trucks.

I worked 3 winters in Watford City N.D. , for MBI it got down to minus 40 . We dairy farmed outside Ephrata , Wa, we had minus 20 with wind chilled 57 below !

These situations are so dangerous , you go too slow you get hit from behind , you go too fast you hit someone. Best to get to a rest area or exit and park it !
Blizzard conditions means chains, studded tires aren't going to help if you can't see beyond the hood of your vehicle. Stay home.

in north dakota you can get away with a two-wheel drive through most of the year if you stay on the highways, but from about December through February even as late as April you can't get out of your yard or down the highways without a 4x4
Some people who drive 4X4s think they can plow through anything.......still won't work on black ice. Sick of them causing a lot accidents. My front wheel drive, has gotten me through anything; because I had drivers ed, and learned how to drive!
I’ve lived in Fargo North Dakota for almost 3yrs and this year is the worst I’ve seen with the weather and it honestly got me rethinking my decision of staying here
Lived in Grand Forks for 6 years. Highway 2 got like this a few times each winter. “Snow snakes” were really bad at night.
That is so scary.
When you know it's coming there is no excuse to be in that storm.

4 wheel drive, or two, there are times when the maximum safe speed is a negative number.
The safest speed is on one’s couch in this type of weather if one can
I live in Montreal, I have a Subaru and very good winter tires and 35 years of experience driving on snow......I would stay home
I know these things can be cyclic but, our weather lately looks more global cooling than global warming

Hey I was the gut in the white van. U was stuck there for 3 hours waiting for a tow truck
The pickup truck trying to pull that SUV out needed to be on the other lane of the road. Otherwise, the SUV just wants to slide along the ditch instead of getting pulled up and out of the ditch.

I was a cop along I-94 in ND. Those are the type of idiots we had to go out an rescue from their own stupidity. That made our patrol vehicles part of the problem.

Absolutely NO clue about how to drive on snow and ice. To start, do not use cruise control and then do not believe 4-wheel drive will get through anything.

How about the funny part being that the interstate was closed down during this storm. And not only were vehicles being filmed on the road illegally, but the person filming was also breaking the law. Should use his footage to cite him.
I29 was not closed. And when your work is not closed folks need to get there. It isn't so black and white an answer.

@@neilmccomsey9550 They very first video in the clip shows a pickup (facing the wrong direction by the way) on the interstate trying to pull out a SUV. As if some complete idiot is going to face his pickup in the wrong direction in that storm with such low visibility without the road being closed. And even then taking a huge chance.
Not tht hard to slow down and stay on the road. Put the phones DOWN. stow the pride of “being the better driver” and stop passing if you can’t see
