- Several vehicles and semis were involved in a pile up accident on westbound Interstate 94, two miles east of Casselton, ND, under the 158th Ave SE overpass. Extreme whiteout conditions were happening at the time of the accident eventually warranting a blizzard warning from the National Weather Service office out of Grand Forks, ND. according to North Dakota Highway Patrol reported several injuries.
Casselton Firefighters and Cass County emergency workers were seen attempting to remove a pinned victim by cutting the truck's entire top off in blizzard conditions accompanied by -30F wind chill. I counted at least 10 vehicles with significant damage with several others stuck on now closed I-94. The ND State Highway Patrol reported several injuries to local media.
Shot Description
1) Several clips of Casselton, ND, Firefighters on scene using heavy equipment to remove the top of a pickup with a pinned victim on Interstate 94 just east of Casselton.
2) Top of truck was removed, many firefighters surrounded the vehicle and entered from above to attend to the victim.
3) On the west side of the overpass there were four more vehicles where the accident began, two semis, a flat bed truck, and a pickup
4) Final clip shows the conditions on I-94 near Mapleton, ND, an idea of what the vehicles involved in the accident were traveling in.

I was outside for like five minutes helping a dude who got stuck in the parking lot and I felt like my face was going to freeze solid. These guys are out there for who knows how long saving people's lives. These guys are absolute heroes.
Unless this is close to West Fargo, all those firefighters are VOLUNTEERS!
@@andrewberntson2335 it was between West Fargo and Casselton.
NOT ALL HEROES WEAR CAPES !!!
@@leebenson4874 not at all. Most departments have auto extracation training every few years. I was just pointing out that they were not getting paid to be out there freezing. Most probably had to leave their job to go on the call, I'm assuming many people watching the video don't know that small towns have volunteer fire and EMS departments.
That is why people should stay off the roads and not endanger rescue workers lives.
North Dakota responders among the best under the worst conditions OLDMAN Winter throws at us.
THANK YOU FIREFIGHTERS! Until people have to spend a few minutes in a blizzard at -13 temps with -55 windchills....theyll never know what TRUE HEROES you all are!!
I’m staying in FL and will take on hurricanes any day, but not these conditions. Hats off to the first responders
I wouldn't choose neither one lived in both. Hurricanes tornadoes snow storms blizzards.. All can be very dangerous it's a blessing that people get through..🙏🏽💫
I so agree FLORIDA🌴 best place to live-31 years now, plus our STATE 🌴 is remaining FREE from the constant threats of WDC & WHITE HOUSE.
And the camera crews for braving the storms
I like Florida too moved down in 1992 from Michigan. 80 degrees this weekend.
I would choose Maryland or the north/western part of Virginia. No hurricanes, blizzards, massive wildfires or earthquakes. Decent weather all year round. Not super hot. Not super cold.
Amazing footage. What a difficult rescue literally in a massive blizzard. Much love and respect for these first responders.
Probably just volunteers too being casselton is not very large a town.
Amazing video. Was it filmed with a drone. It looked to windy for any aircraft.
In my opinion while watching the footage it looks more like a deep fog blanket with wind gust snow and speed.I couldn’t even see.Why drive in this level of a blizzard. And you could hear a whistle in the win.🥶🥶🥶🥶🌨🌬❄️
North Dakota government is on something 💭😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Like did he tell his people we are under an emergency notice please stay home we will have inclement weather due to a major blizzard coming our way 🤦🏻♀️
Also you couldn’t even see the road you can tell the snow cover the pavement 😳🥶😱🤯
Much respect for these volunteers!! Risking their lives in harsh conditions to save someone…Thank you for all you do!!
God bless the first responders, lifting prayers for them and the victims
God bless Firefighters, there are the real heroes of the world
Kudos to the emergency personnel working in these treacherous & miserable conditions. Hope & pray there were no serious injuries.
Thank God there were brave men and weman to answer the call when it came in !!! Can't say enough about the volunteers that staff our ambulances and fire trucks for just such calls !!! Thanks to the highway Patrol Units !!!
PEOPLE IF YOU DONT HAVE AN EMERGENCY PLEASE don't drive in these conditions unless is critical emergency its not worth your life
These are true heroes.
Thank you to the first responders and others who helped.
Cops should have same work ethics instead of Lying 🤥
I hope no one was seriously hurt. There is no way I would be out in that.
Those Firefighters/Responders are awesome!
GOD bless the 1st responders so grateful for what you do.
Absolutely amazing Firefighters!! God's blessings to all of them 🙏
The sound of the wind in conjunction with the visuals made me shiver. I don't understand why people would choose to drive in those conditions.
God bless those men and women out there saving people!! 🙏
Looks treacherous... I hope, ultimately, everyone was alright and no lives were lost.
My sympathies to all involved.
I have a great respect who protect and serve in our country. Amazing individuals . Thank you for doing what you do every day.
RESPECT TO THESE BRAVE MEN.
I live in R.I. During our last blizzard our Governor shut the highway to tractor trailers and cars. Only essential workers could be on the roads. That would help with these crashes and pileups.
Truck drivers are essential workers. Without them the country couldn’t operate!
Why does the RI Government not stop people from eating too much and getting obese?
@@nightdipper5178 More like the governors of Mississippi, West Virginia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Michigan, Louisiana, and South Carolina. Those are the Top 10 Most Obese States. Aside from Michigan, it looks as though the majority of the south needs to lay off the twinkies and beer.
These conditions are too common there. If they shut it down every time then it would restrict travel too much.
Because essential workers know exactly what they are doing in these weather conditions😁
Hats off also to the linemen and electricians that make sure electricity is restored as quickly as possible when outages occur... often in the worst weather conditions imaginable. These people are usually thought of as just doing their job, but it's a job most people wouldn't want or couldn't handle.
They don't get the thanks and praise they deserve. Their jobs are very dangerous, especially in conditions like this!!! I want to say Thank you for your hard work and dedication!!!
Spoken like a true lineman.
Don’t hurt your wrist jerking yourself off like that.
Nobody was out of power.
@@JustSomeGuyAroundTown I'm retired and have never been a lineman. Just appreciate the dedication and job they and other service workers provide.
.
I work in a power plant as an auxiliary operator, while suffering with ulcerative colitis. My digestive clinic doesn't take my suffering seriously and every time I have concerns about my health, they always get mad at me. I've complained many times to the clinic administration and nothing happens.
Prayers sent to everyone 🙏🙏🙏
Praying for all involved ♥️
God Bless these rescuers! ❤
Thank you all for your bravery and dedication.
Sending prayers for all involved in the pile up.
Lord bless these firefighters and all that are involved.🙏🏿
If you've never been in a North Dakota ground blizzard, you're in for a good treat. They come out of nowhere, sometimes you can't see the hood of your truck.
Why aren’t the roads closed in those conditions? Not only are responders’ lives are at risk, but so is anyone who gets stuck for hours while they try to clear the crashes. Waiting for the storm to recede means traffic will not be impacted like here.
Why does the Government not stop people from eating too much and getting obese? Because it is a free country. Free to take a risk or NOT.
pretty sure they are but idiots drive around or if they are already on the interstate as far as I know they can't safely get off of it.
Somebody has the balls to do the toughest jobs, and paid penny's like teachers.. Yet, without the servants sociaty would collapse ...
@@nightdipper5178 LOL. The government is forced to do PLENTY to try to protect us from ourselves and people like you. Seat belts, helmets, speed limits, stop signs, building codes, warning labels, bicycle and pedestrian laws, etc., etc.
@@grandpavan8335 Why stop there. Obesity is a national crisis and citizens suffering from it should be protected and have their food intake regulated by government. -Subjects- Citizens of the US should not be permitted to consume alcohol considering the grave harm it does to society. I can go on and on and on......
Lotta cred to the first responders AND the camera crews for braving the storm like they're doing
Thank you Heroes!
Takes some tough people to work in those conditions.
Yep..i wouldn't do it for any amount of money!
@@mitchwilley5011 I'm guessing they're volunteer unless some guys came from Grand Forks? Most of th esmall towns just have a voluneer fire force.
My father used to say, "Don't overdrive your sight distance."
That just looks like the TOTALLY MOST MISERABLE scene ever. Stay home people. Get a ROOM!
People driving way too fast for the road conditions, "Again!" Hope no one lost their life because of this...
It's times like these you stay home.
It was a semi driver that drove into a guy pulling a snowmobile trailer.
@@nevets4190 still driving too fast for the conditions
That's almost always the reason for these pile-ups in bad weather.
Hate to tell y’all this but we truckers frequently cannot stay home.
I do wish that more drivers would be cognizant of developing weather & reset their routes to avoid the really nasty conditions though.
@@amyd.thompson-bernard1817 no not the truck drivers that are needed to help keep the country moving but the 4 wheelers that don't really need to be out there.
Boy o boy what a mess out there. now that's a blizzard.
Growing up in Wisconsin. I know how brutal this weather can get. God bless the first responders
Bless all those who risk theirs lives to save lives/ keep us safe..........tow truck drivers, 1st responders, and the public, who stop and aid. Just stay safe. Please stay in your cars until help arrives. scary to watch people wandering around after an accident.
I do not miss the severe winter storms of northern Minnesota as this reminds me of the 9 months of cold 🥶 & frequent blizzards .
Amazing that many people are out in that insane weather. And then they wonder why they die and freeze to death. Just how selfish people can be thinking, oh I'll be the only person on the road, what I have to do is more important than anybody else's thing to do. You get a bunch of people thinking that way and look what happens.
I'm pretty sure the storm wasn't that bad when most drivers left their homes. Mostly it's newcomers to the state that don't know how to navigate a blizzard. Lots out-of-state plates up here these days.
I live in Fargo now but I am originally from Casselton and the road (I am thinking of) is very dangerous when there are white outs... I can't remember what my grandma calls it but it is literally all fields so it is IMPOSSIBLE to see in when there are blizzard conditions. I hope no one had to drive for work in this because man it looks like it sucks.
I only drove in a blizzard once and it was to Minot and my GPS took me on a backroad and I thought I was going to get stuck or die that night just from how bad the conditions are. And the person I was going to see ended up not being worth it so
Can't imagine why there are people driving in such hazardous conditions.
No common sense
Beer run
O my goodness!!! Prayers to everyone
One of the reasons I'm not a first responder is that I'd respond first thing after the storm blows over.
ICE STORM WARNING IN EFFECT for central lower Michigan. Difficult to impossible travel tonight to Tues evening. Power outages expected
God Bless the responders who were there and everyone who helped. We had a ad one a year ago on I 70. And if I weren’t do the responders, I don’t think anybody would have had the help as good as they did.
God Bless the Men and Women that go out in these conditions and save lives.🥶
Having been is such conditions a few time, my heart goes out to all of them.
please be safe all
WE CAN NEVER THANK 🔥 FIRE FIGHTERS ENOUGH!!!!! TO SAY THE LEAST!!!!!!!
How about the truckers?
I have been up there in bad weather like that it's 100 percent a nightmare
My daughter lives in Bismarck that’s scary stuff !
That's one helluva storm! Sheesh
Prayers for all involved 🙏
Damn. I was on that road yesterday and turned back at Castleton. I called by dispatcher and had him cancel the ride.
I drove back going 25 mph in a long line of cars. I couldn't see 70 ft in front of me.
Kudos kudos kudos to those Responders!!!!!
THANK You
True heroes
Give some ♥ to EMT !!! That windchill is deadly !!
WOW! SHARED! PRAYERS!
These conditions are beyond brutal. Way beyond brutal!
This is what everyday heroes look like
Hope everyone is OK. Even ole man winter says, Studded tires and chains comes to mind.
I wish I could help. This looks crazy.
Are there not enough days that the weather is not critical that people must drive in these conditions?
Firefighters! Can always count on those people!
Great job guys.
Seriously, WHO drives in white out blizzard conditions???? 🤔😳🤷
The truck drivers do, cause you guys need food , water, clothes, shoes, gas etc.

I'm cold just watching this. Wow.
Surprised the drone would work!! Nice job.
Footage is from an overpass. Doesn't have on or off ramps
@@altestic9436 OK, understood. Sure couldn't figure out how a drone would work in that wind. Thx.
It is the overpass, our guy said the roads where extra bad at all of the overpasses. He knew where this one was so he was able to drive over it and park.
That pile right there are 4 wheel drive vehicles, they always seem to think not me!
Why are people even on the road in those conditions? It's one thing if you are on the roads "after" the storm but trying to drive during it is just irresponiable..
I'm in Nebraska, and there's NO WAY I'd drive anywhere in that kind of weather.
I wish people would adhere to the forecast, and travel only if absolutely necessary. Those emergency workers trying to remedy the situation in blizzard conditions ought to receive hazard pay for their efforts. Those weather conditions are life threatening.
Hope pray everyone ok.
Why, why, don't people just stay put. And NOT DRIVE IN THIS WEATHER.!!
They don’t always have a lot of warning when something like this hits.
If I owned a business in ND and that was heading my way, I'd tell everyone not to come in today.
Never seen a rescue in progress in such horrid conditions.
This is the "No joke" part of winter up here.
Just about every single last one of you are mere inches from the vehicle in front of you! Follow too closely much?
My Fellow Truckers, park it in weather conditios like this!
awesome heroes ..firefighters, police
Why are people out in this to make a car pile up to begin with! 🤔😮
THANK GOD I GOT OFF THE ROAD IN JANUARY..
Have worked in weather like that , I feel for those people .
Wow heroes! Very cool footage!!!
When will people learn to slow down in icy road conditions?
Real American Heroes!
I drove through there just before this happened but I was going west bound getting on the on ramp
Lord bless these and all e.ergency workers.
We have had 11 blizzards so far in Fargo this season ,I believe that's a all time record ,and it's not even march 😔
Hey let’s all drive really fast in a complete snow and wind storm with semi’s next to us, what could go wrong?
why would you even attempt to drive a semi in that weather?
This is why North Dakota has fewer people than most mid-sized cities (Indianapolis; Salt Lake City, Columbus, Raleigh-Durham, etc.)
First responders need a significant raise.
Guarantee these people are volunteers,
They are all volunteer. My dad was one of them out there. The Casselton fire department is fantastic and all volunteer their time and talent and sometimes safety.
This was eastern Oregon and they are awesome.
I hope if there were injuries they weren't serious. God Bless the first responders. They can make the difference between life and death!
