    I appreciate this video so much. Seems like there’s 2 camps of folks. Those who think you MUST cut the rocker out, weld in a new one and make it perfect. The other being the ones that think you must go get a truck financed to have something decent. Expanding foam and a little bondo is perfectly fine for that $2500 truck that runs like a dream but is a little ugly. Yes it will rot out but it’s not a new truck you’re going to drive for 10 years. We’re just poor good ol boys that want to make our truck look half way decent going down the road. Life is temporary and so are our possessions.

      Thanks for the kind words Alex. Appreciate you watching. I’ve always been comfortable driving the older stuff and was brought up learning how to keep ‘em halfway decent and on the road. Like my dad always says “vehicles are just things.”

      I’m originally from NH where everything was a rust bucket, and so I’ve done several trucks with this technique. Obviously not professional body work but it holds up well in my experience.

    The spray foam is a super hack job [I personally won't do because my OCD won't allow it] BUT these trucks are a dime a dozen so whatever it takes to make it look good ! Love that color I looked for one for a long time ended up with a Flame Red Sport 4 x 4 360 gasser 1500 !! Looks good keep up the budget builds us working stiffs love them !!

    • @TheMoparGarage

      Thanks for watching!! Haha spray foam is probably not a recommended practice for people with OCD tendencies! I grew up in NH driving a lot of rusted out crap though so this was standard practice growing up. Intense blue is a great color, but yours sounds like a sweet truck! I've owned a boat load of 2nd gens, but I've been looking for a 5 speed V8 2500 recently. I sold both of my 2500's recently so I was forced to tow one of my new projects (73 plymouth Satellite) home with this truck and the tall gears weren't ideal.

    Just found your channel because I found a 98 Club Cab thats been sitting for at least 5 years. Dont know much about it yet, but thinking I may have to take a closer look at it. Question about the rattle can paint. Could you go over that with a rubbing compound followed by a polishing compound with buffing wheels and get rid of a lot of the imperfections im the spray can paint job?

    • @TheMoparGarage
      @TheMoparGarage  7 дней назад

      Thanks for watching man! The only way to get a paint job that can be buffed with a rattle can is to use what’s called 2K clear. It’s a 2 part system but if you use it, wear a full on respirator. It’s the real deal.

    Nice rattle can paint job. The index finger must have been hurting after all that. Mine gets that way just doing a single body part. Does this mean you have to change the title or registration going from white to blue? The one reason I bring a magnet with me when I check on cars from PA... where they won't pass inspection with rust through, and so you get a lot of Bondo over socks and duct tape 😁!!

    • @TheMoparGarage
      @TheMoparGarage  Год назад +2

      Haha index finger was killing me! I switched to the middle finger and then to the thumb and then back a bunch of times. I actually thought about the title yesterday…legally I probably do have to. Not sure if I’ll ever get around to it 😂…I am originally from NH so I drove a lot of risk buckets, but here in SC we’re so fortunate, we don’t have to deal with rust unless a truck has come from somewhere else. We also don’t inspections of any kind. Which is scary in some ways but awesome for car guys like me!

    I just found your channel yesterday and cant stop watching your stuff on this truck i have a 01. But I have a ticking when accelerating and after i shut it off i can still hear it but not at idle or when crusing, any ideas? Im thinking exhaust manifold.

    • @TheMoparGarage
      @TheMoparGarage  Год назад +3

      Thanks for the kind words and welcome to the channel! Exhaust manifolds would cause a ticking under load, but might not at idle so you’re probably on the right track. If it is more of a pinging noise, it could very well be an intake manifold plenum gasket failure. 318 and 360 magnums are notorious for that. The manifold itself is aluminum and the plenum plate is steel, metals expand at different rates when they get hot, and the gasket fails. Hughes engines makes a great kit that has a nice thick aluminum plate with a new gasket and bolts. I install it on all my magnum engines. I think it’s about $150 and takes probably 5 hours or so to change if you’ve never done one before.
