  • Let's make an endless cassette tape loop together. I'll walk you through how to make an ambient tape loop of your very own using some tools you may already own. I'll show you how I take sample libraries I already own and transform them into something truly unique.

    For everyone new to cassette tape (like me ;) ) there is a "hack" called "Sound on sound" recording where you cover erase head of your recorder with thin foil etc.not only you should get rid of the gap but also you can "sum" the sounds on a single track

    Thank you for showing how frustrating this process is- the sausage getting made -my buddy and I spent an evening making tape loops to use and there was lots of cursing (and laughing) but every other demo I've seen of someone doing this they put it together in no time at all and make all of us mortals feel even more so.
    Really like your channel and your perspective on creativity.

    The art of tape loops looks so intriguing. I recently acquired my first analog synthesizer and have been loving every aspect of that- I think the whole tape loop practice will be my next bit of “analog fun” I wanna explore (: Great video JNJ.

    Awesome video! I love the full footage of the process, including little mistakes before it properly works.
    I bought a blooper to emulate this tape-ish thing, but is not the same.
    Really good track too!

    I saw a guy in another vid lay the tape ends together face down on the sticky strip of a post-it note which frees up your frustrated fingers while applying the sticky tape to back of the music tape.

    Sounds awesome! Excellent video. I have an old consumer grade JVC dual cassette deck that I sometimes record directly to before bringing the audio into my DAW. I don’t think I have the patience or steady enough hands to pull this technique off though. If you made some ready to loop cassettes and put ‘em on reverb I’d buy them!

    Pardon my ignorance - I’m still a NOOB at this stuff. So, up to four tracks can be… layered onto a tape? I would have assumed that, if you record say four segments of music on a tape, that they would be back to back, one after the other [in series]. But if you can activate any individual segment of music, at any time, by sliding a slider of your choosing then that confirms that, the recordings were not made in series but instead, layered. Did I get that right? Please let me know. Cheers!

    Do you find the gap created by the erase head much of a problem? I have issues playing around it with 5 second loops but I imagine with a longer tape loop it would have a less dramatic effect on the feel. Your method of getting the sounds onto the loop is a great idea

    I'm just at a loss at how to deal with excessively curly tape that's been bound up for 30 years. I just can't seem to get the loose bits to behave in the shell.

    Maxwell.... LOL
    Can't you just have a tape loop inside the cassette? Why does it have to be external?

    • @JamesonNathanJones
      @JamesonNathanJones  2 года назад +2

      Doesn’t have to be external, but it does allow for longer loops and manipulation of the tape by hand.
