A friend has just given me an x26 and I wanted to refresh my awareness of this recorder. My main use is to record separate loops like you've done here as separate rhythmic elements for different tracks I'm playing live. This way I have four pre programmed beats I can rely on throughout my performance. Plus, it's easy enough to create other groups of beats on other cassettes that can be switched out as I need them. Saves a lot of grief over relying on digital gear messing up!
Did you ever make a video showing how you use guitar amp sim pedals with your four tracks? I would love to hear how good it sounds. I would love having to mic my cabs all the time. Thanks….. cool channel.
Is there anyway you can workout how long to cut the tape .. say you want to play a piece for 8 seconds and have an 8 second continuous loop .. how much tape would you need ? Is there a way to work that out ? Great video by the way
Thank you 🙏 I use paper tape because I can attack it and remove it very easily Tinfoil can't be attacked and it can't keep still but mine was just a tip. 😊 the most important thing is to remove the gap in the loop
Here's an even easier method. Record and loop stuff perfectly on a computer or laptop using an editor like Audacity. All you do is select roughly half of the clip, cut it, and paste at the end. Then select a few seconds either side of where it joins and use 'crossfade clips' from the edit menu. Voila, perfect loop! Most editors or DAWs can do this. Now, play back your perfect loop and record onto your old 4-track for that shitty tape quality sound. Record 5 or 10 minutes, or however long it takes to get bored, then play the tape and record back to the computer. Sometimes I nudge the pitch control while it's running...Authentic wobbly tape sound that you can now arrange at your leisure on the computer, resample, add plugin FX or whatever. Enjoy! Alternatively just download a free tape plugin, and put the 4-track in the bin. Plenty of options 😉
@Mario Inghes how was that being disrespectful? I was simply sharing a much easier way to get the same sound. Tape loops are a pain in the arse, nothing to do with 'years of sacrifice'.
@@VirtualModular How come you think you know better? Beside a unique Tape sound which differs from pure digital sound it also is big part of music history covering plenty of rap and punk productions. If it's a pain in the arse, you never learned to enjoy it. That's ok but don't try to instruct others.
Use a daw to play so you have not to buy a guitar, use the ai to make music so you can make music without being a musician. Do you really think that true analog sounds can be compared to any daw tones? Everyone has their own taste, no worries about it, but I prefer my true tones. Cheers
Unusual. Interesting. Magically. The sound lives in its own way, lives its own life, as if out of control. very beautiful!
Thank you very much indeed 🙏
@@PerryFrank Thank you for interesting content. I love your videos, especially where you give tips and explanation
This is one of the best instructional videos out there. I will finally put my X-18 to good use.
Thank you very much 🙏
The tip for covering the erase head is genius!
🙏🙏🙏

It's a good device the x26, love it
Very very good as always. Turning a 4 track into a synth!!
Thank you very much 🙏
Mucha gracias!!! Tenía el problema del cabezal de borrado. Muchas gracias! 🥹
Thank you teacher !
You're welcome
Fantastico...mi piacerebbe vedere anche come colleghi il korg volca keys ai pedali e agli amp...tksss
Grazie infinite 🙏 ho in programma un video sui volca per dicembre/gennaio
@@PerryFrank sei un grande!
Love this. Can I use this unit with a guitar and pedals in and then out to an amp? To create tracks. I do t use a daw. Love your work!
You could try it, before going in the multitrack maybe you should put a cab simulator
Really good explanation, thank you.
Thank you very much 🙏
@@PerryFrank I’ve just purchased an X18 last night because of your video. Thank you again :-).
@@weaponofvoice that's amazing, it's powered with batteries and you can use it everywhere 🔥
I had one of these, until I download the RC20 and Reels plugins. Sounds even better than cassette with no maintenance.
No plugin can sound better than the real cassette multitrack recorders

LO-FI CAR MUSIC was recorded on Fostex x-15 :))

Why is only one wheel rolling on your cassette? I'm confused.
There's no reason to be confused
Problem is: where to find a cassette multitrack recorder, nowadays?!
Ebay
if iwe remove the tape can we also delete what was recorded?
Of course, if you remove the tape, the erase head will remove everything on the track you select
@@PerryFrank So where is the difference with the tape cassette with 3 heads??
