The History is distorted. Darjeeling was never a place for the Nepalese speaking Gorkhas. Original inhabitants were Lepchas & Bhotias. Nepalese were mere migrants who proliferated like anything and because of this number-dominated cursed democracy, they are claiming Darjeeling as Gorkhalands. Darjeeling was a sleepy village till 1835 when British annexed it with India because of the persistent trouble of Gorkha aggression by the wretched Gorkha rulers of Nepal who were taught a good lesson in 1817 by the British General Octerlony. So Darjeeling was annexed and designed to be the 'Queen of the Hills' by the British, Bengali engineers and architects executed the plans, Tea-Timber-Coal-Orchard industry was developed by British & Bengali entrepreneurs, and the Nepalese workers swarmed in to seek a job. Now these Servants are claiming the Masters' House as theirs!
Siliguri had almost zero Bengali population just around independence. Massive Migration from Bangladesh ( East Pakistan civil war )and later Assam resulted in Bengali settlement near the Highways ( khalpada, AshramPada, Haiderpada, Matigara, shivmandir etc) . Immigrant people always settle around the main highways this is the testament. But Southern Bengalis look down upon Siliguri people as backward, uncivilized and unpolished and Siliguri/Jalpai Bengalis have as a result have identity crisis. Massive Bengali Migration has already destroyed the orginal inhabitants of State like Tripura. Assam is struggling with new Bangla migrants from Bangladesh even after chasing lakhs of migrants to Jalpaiguri and Siliguri. Had Gorkhaland been rightfully given to the patriotic and humble, brave Gorkhas, Siliguri and Darjeeling region would have been safe and prosperous. Now the New wave of Bihari migration is Destroying Siliguri and Darjeeling. Places like Champasari, Gurung Busty, Tilak Maidan ( kanchanjunga stadium), Sevoke are the orginal Native names but now these places are demographically changed with people from Bihar and Bangladesh.
