Yah, married to a Spanish lady (I think Catalan). He did his acceptance speech first in English, then in Spanish. His extended Spanish family was there at the finish today. Sepp is just such a great role model and emissary for American Cycling -- I'm so impressed with this fine young man and the fine young American men (and women) in the European Peleton. Great sportsmanship, unflappable, grateful to be riding, never a cross word even when it seems he was given a sh*t taco on stage 16 by his own team. Bravo 🥳💯💪🚲⚡🔥👑

Sepp Kuss is an awesome domestique, pretty generous by Vingegaard to not go for the red jersey. I bet he have earned Kuss' loyalty for the coming years. Vingegaard said already on the 2nd rest day they should ride defensive and protect Kuss' lead, but management initially decided they should race for the win.

    • @swissbiggy
      @swissbiggy Год назад +8

That decision didn't have anything to do with Vingegaard saying this in the press... hahaha It is Richard Plugge who made this decision. And besides that if Kuss would not have been in the lead it was Jumbo's intention that Jonas would help Roglic to win his 4th Vuelta. In December 2022 the decision was already made by the team that Roglic could go for the win in the Giro and Vuelta this year and Vingegaard in the Tour. (Which is of course also the reason that Roglic has been preparing for this Vuelta the moment he won the Giro, and that Kuss and Vingegaard did have zero special preparation for this Vuelta.)
So it is very nice of you to thank Jonas Vingegaard, but you should in fact thank Primoz Roglic. 😉✌

Vingegaard was always co-leader in the Vuelta, he is the number one guy at Jumbo Visma. He is the Boss Man.

This Vuelta was taken from You Vingo. I really feel for you. You were evidently the stronger rider for some charity give away plus some mysterious event like the break away let inexplicably go 7 minutes ahead. Vast majority of channels were stuck with their Team mentality and could not read the new situation of a race that became an internal affair between riders. Also cycling is not soccer, basketball, volleyball, its an individual team that is why there is the GC and not the team times, rarely shown. Cycling is also a Team sport however its secondary to the individual racers and winners. They should have raced at their best and let the best win a simple and obvious strategy not applied resulting of Vingo putting 21 days of super hard work in vain for some charity give away and thank you for the past work? I feel for Vingo a lot, Kuss would have wanted to win the race with Roglic and Vingo putting the best foot forward. It seems a bit selfish form Kuss to demand that 2 Capitans and superstars would become your domestiques only because you are few seconds ahead? To my eyes this is your Vuelta Vingo. Net year Tour and Vuelta

Otherwise, he rides in the shadow of Tadej and Jonas and perhaps Sepp and others in the grand tours during the next number of years? Not sure but it is fun to wonder. And I do hope that Durango puts on a welcome home show for Sepp, maybe a rider parade through town and a big community gathering. And JB, I think you're right, no more breaks for Sepp on Team JV. 😀

They can now put him in a break away, as a danger for the other gc teams/contenders, as they now know that he can win a Grand Tour. That is a pretty good card to have on your hands. Remco’s collapse was due to nerves. Even before the race started he spoke of his fear of Roglic teamed with Vingegaard. But when Remco had Sepp minutes ahead, coupled with the dynamic duo breathing down his neck, the pressure was more than he could bear. His central nervous system literally exhausted his muscles to fatigue.
Once the pressure was off, he was relaxed and reenergized. Although he remained afraid of racing up mtns directly against Roglic and Vingegaard, hence the avoidance.
The day after riding Bardet off his wheel, he was more determined to show that he was the strongest, rather than do what was necessary to win. Not to give him too much credit, but he certainly could have won from that breakaway group, had he not towed them predominately. But he had proven his point by winning the previous day, then leading the next day, so winning wasn’t as important as showing his strength (to prove himself after his collapse)
For one day races or short stage races, his strength, aero, and explosiveness are a lethal combo. But for a 3 week race against the best, he needs psychological help in order to practice conservation of energy.

And I have to honor THE MOVE to admit that you went overboard with emotions after stage 17. And said you were sorry for that. Johan Brynell is the only one with balls to do that. For that I salute u. Jumbo did the right thing to back Kuss up(Jonas did all along). I really think that the world went crazy and bashed Jonas and Roglic without knowing what really went on. I respect Jonas for backing KUSS up and I salute Roglic for being a racer who wants to win and that's what his team management told him to do and pay him for and that's what he did. Shame on all of the haters of Jonas and Roglic. People also forgot that this have never happened in history before. Never have Mercxk, Bernard H, Lance A or indurain ever given a Gt away to a weaker super domestique. Never , never ever has that happened before and it will hopefully never happen again. Plus, its also very rare that 3 guys from the same team leads a Gt so comfortably that they could have the luxury to decide between themselves. I think everybody was a little confused about the whole situation. Though I personally think that it would have been the right thing to let the 3 of them race each other and let the strongest win. Well I am Danish and of course a big of Jonas and therefore biased, so I would have loved him to win the tour Vuelta double as only the 4th raider in history to do that(if I remember correct), and of course next year try to do it again to be the first one ever to do it twice. For the future legacy of the great champions Roglic, Kuss and Jonas, I really hope that Roglic will move to ineos so we can have a tour battle between the 3 best GT raiders in the world next year, with extremely talented Remco as an outsider. So 4 teams with 4 super strong raiders against each other tour 24 would be great for all who loves pro cycling. Kuss (as much as I love him) has to find out, if he wants to stay as a helper to Jonas, and back him up trying to go after history and records or go for your own merits as he of course deserves in another team. If I was Jumbo management I would back Jonas up trying to become one of the Goats of GTs. Jonas has shown in this Vuelta that he has the ability to win the tour and the Vuelta in one season, which means that he has a realistic chance at getting between 8-12 grand tour victories and become one of the all-time goats of GT racing. You can only get to those numbers if you can win 2 GTs a season and don’t have to give to many potential victories away because you are a decent guy and the world think you should give a GT as a gift to a sympathetic domestigue. It is seldom that a raider comes along as Jonas, who has the potential to compete against Anquetil, Merckx and Bernard H. I am not saying he will do it, a lot has to work his way and some luck too. But obviously they have to try and make this a reality or they are nuts. So if Roglic wants more than the giro the next 2 years, he will have to move to another team and the same goes for Sepp. American media already speculating that Kuss and Jonas goes as joint leaders for the next Tour de France. Absolutely mad. It's crazy how Jonas is constantly being underestimated. He is by far the best GT raider in the world right now. Jonas has the 2nd highest vo2max on 97 ever recorded cross all elite athletes. He has made world records with watts/kg over 15 minutes climbs. All experts rant about Pogi being the best raider since Merckx. And he has beaten him the last 2 ½ tour de France, since he took over as captain in midway tour de france 21. No he has not beaten him he has destroyed him, smashing him with over 7 ½ minutes in the tour. 23 with over 20 minutes lead over top 10 guys. Come on the world is ranting about pogi and Remco. But the fact is Jonas is ithe most dominant raider since Froome. When people discuss the potential and talent of Remco many people and experts says that he is not on the level of Jonas and POGI. How the hell is Pogi compared to Jonas. Jonas did not beat him, he smashed him, he destroyed POGI in tour 23 with over 7 1/2 minutes with top 10 over 20 minutes behind. Not really a comparison when u look at the clock and final result of the last 2 tours. Even the last 3 tours in the 3rd week. This is my point. IF Jonas was from a big country with a media pron personality, he would have been praised as the new Merxk/lance in GT races. But F..k now we have to hear that KUSS should have the Vuelta, Roglic the Giro and Jonas should be satisfied with the tour. This is absolute bullshit. When u have the best GT raider on your hands, who has shown that he is capable of winning 2 GTs a year, then you should go all inn on trying to beat records and make him the sole captain of the team. If it had been ROG, POGI or Remco with those numbers and results, we would have heard about nothing else and that is a fact. Of course I'm biased as I'm danish and a Hugh fan of Jonas. But let's look at the facts. What we really know and no speculations. No matter how good a team you have, you have to climb those high-altitude mountains yourself, no wind breaker here. Same to say about ITT. No team help and the GTs get decided in the mountains and on ITTs. Jonas has not cracked once. Not once has a team mate had to slow down and help him up a mountain, not once has he been dropped severely. The most he has lost is 21 sec to Pog in the tour 23 . And no team mates were there to help him.. Not once when he got dropped did he get help to close the gap. He did it himself. The only time u can say he has had help with a setback is the couples stage tour 22, where WWA saved Jonas for a setback due to a puncture. and the team helping him when he punctured on stage 1 Vuelta TTT. Of course it helps to have a strong time with attacking so your opposition get tied, like tour stage 13 cranon, where Roglic and Jonas attacked POG over and over again. One of the best stages in history in my opinion. Which led to Pog to crack. But facts are that Remco, Roglic and POG cracks once in a while. And Jonas don't. When the others go down to 90-93% in week 3, Jonas only drops to 95-97%, (these numbers I have from their Watts/kg numbers) which is what makes him superior to the others no matter what team is behind him. He definitely has the potential and talent to make history and this is what Jumbo should try to accomplish over the next 5-6 years with Jonas as the 100% captain on the team. Plus IF KUSS and ROGLIC moves to other teams it will be more equal competition for everybody and more interesting for us spectators. My last point. Jonas is 26 years old. Found his self confidence last in his career. I don't see anybody beating him the next 2 years. Which means he will have 6 GTS when he is 28 Years old. Right now. Merxk is on 11 GT wins, Bernard H 10 and Angetill 8 GT wins. A lot of raiders on 7. If you have a raider that has the potential to go in all-time top 3 GTs, then you should go for it or you are brain dead. Eventually a new young star will come from behind. But let's face it. What is the chance that a new POGI will come along soon. A guy all the expects say is the only one in history who you can compare to Merxk. And he is not even close to beating Jonas
But congrats to Jumbo And KUSS. What a fairytale win for Kuss and what a season for the greatest GT team in history

Why is everyone saying cycling is a team sport? It is geared towards individual wins and prizes and obviously behind everyone's win there is a huge team of workers like mechanics, nutritionists, massagists, domestiques, etc. You don't play a two way team vs team matches out in the field, there are no matches, but people riding bikes as fast as they can to help either their designated leader in group of riders formed and named after their main sponsor's label or ride as fast as they can for whichever tropheys they are aiming to get. TJV had to re-designate their leader in the third week due to sponsors/social media peer pressure. I sympathize with Sepp but the confusion stemmed from the internal politics of TJV itself which kinda took away the mystery of who really was the strongest rider in the Vuelta to deserve that win.

Finally - after Johan has received inside knowledge from team JV - an admission that the hetz against Jonas from The Move has been wrong, untruthful and, moreover, contrary to what Jonas himself has stated to the media since the rest day. The conclusion - that it is The Move that has acted untrustworthy and not Jonas, who alone, as a double winner of the Tour de France, insisted on 2 stage victories and that Roclic did not run away with the victory.
And by the way, not in a million years would Armstrong have accepted that a Danish co-rider should have had a victory in a Grand Tour at his expense - do you Americans really believe that? Nor would he have been pressured into it by his team

    • @biscaynediver

If you take everything Vingegaard says to the media at face value you are a complete dupe or a hopeless fanboi. This guy repeatedly lies and misleads. A simple example - his interviews prior to the Tourmalet stage. He was asked about whether the team would support Kuss for the stage. He could have said "we'll see," or some other evasive answer like "I can't tell you our stratgegy for the day, tune in and watch the race." But instead he said the plan is to let the road decide, whoever is strongest we will support. The reality is, the team plan for the day was NOT to let the road decide, but to have him attack and try to win the stage and Kuss and Primoz to be held back and prevented from going with him, but instead having to stay back and cover Mas and Ayuso. He didn't have to lie in order not to reveal their plan for the day, but it comes so naturally to him, that's what he did, as he often does. Incidentally, if the TJV had let the road decide, Kuss would have won that stage and all the rest of this drama never would have happened. He was clearly the strongest on the day -- he ripped more than 35 seconds out of Vingegaard in the final 1km when he finally got cleared to go. Vingegaard's wheels were coming off in that final 1.5km, he was pedaling squares. Kuss accelerated at warp speed when they finally let him, and took that time out of Vingegaard even though he got blocked by fan interference, had to jam on the brakes on his initial acceleration, then re-accelerate.

What's next for JV in the stage race? Win Tour- check. Win Giro - check. Win Vuelta - check. Win Giro, Tour, and Vuelta (treble) in one season - check. 1-2-3 podium in GT - check. Winning every single WT stage race - check (except ToS?)
    What's left?
    • Giro-Tour Double with 1 rider?
    • Tour-Vulta Double with 1 rider,?
    • Giro-Tour,-Vuelta treble in one year or one season with 1 rider (impossible?)
Also, I think WVA needs to consider stopping spreading himself too thin. He might be the most versatile rider in the world, but so far he only won - one monument. MVP might not be as versatile as WVA, but he has won the biggest racse (monuments, world championship). And he is not getting younger either. MVP might not win many TDF stages, but now, he is wearing the World Championship jersey. Perhaps WVA needs to consider forgoing wasting energy chasing stage wins in the Tour or being. a climbing domestique and concentrate more on classic and WC?🤔
