Thanks for sharing your insights! So many people tell us musicians that the way to grow our channel is to post tutorial videos, but a lot of us really aren't interested in doing that 😅 Posting covers is a great alternative where we still get to make music and reach a new audience. Thanks!
It's kind of weird too. Most of the successful online music teachers are successful because they have a paid website separate from YT. YT is just a way for them to drive traffic to their website and running your own website is a much different endeavor than just wanting to post some music to YT. Also, other than beginners, I don't think very many musicians use YT tutorials to learn songs. At most I will do what this guy said and check out a cover real quick to see how they arranged the song to give me some ideas but any musician worth their salt is usually just listening to a song and working it out by ear.
Good reminder that not every viewer is going to want to subscribe, no matter how well (or not) you play something - it depends to a significant extent on why they're there.
Thank you so much for sharing! Hearing you discuss your analytics was quite a relief to me that my content isn't faring particularly badly and quite motivating. All the best with continuing to grow your channel ❤
Thank you for the self promoting tip. In the world of business, that’s exactly what you do. So it’s not a stupid thing to bring up or talk about because not everyone sees it as trying to hard. I was going to channels like mine and supporting theirs as well as promoting mine. The important part isn’t to post your channel elsewhere, it’s to support the channel where your comment is going to. Because it’s just right, especially when I didn’t ask you if I could promote at your business. But now that I know this isn’t something to do, I won’t! So thank you lol!
I've been making beats for 6 1/2 months now. I know that my beats probably won't be as good as some of the popular music producer's music, so I'll just have to keep grinding and get better at making music for everyone to enjoy. So, thank you for making this video in helping me understand this! 💗
Why wouldn't it be good as some of the popular music producer's music? It's not about the key the producers have and you don't. Be creative, be consistent and learn to sell yourself. Good luck!
@@sebeek00 Yeah, you're totally right and I agree. As long as you make the music you enjoy, others will enjoy the music you enjoy making, and that's a good feeling. Thank you for your reply to this as well and good luck to you as well with anything you are doing! ❤❤
Insightful advice! Thanks for sharing these thoughts. I also noticed how people love the older song covers than the latest ones from my playlist. I guess this confirms my passion's direction. Thanks again! 😺😻
Really appreciate the simple and straight to the point! I'm just starting out trying to work on doing something with my singing! Best of luck to both of us 🙏🏻✨
Great advise! Classics do have a good affect and since none of mine are perfect the ones looking how to play songs only work for a general idea! I don’t really care about such things anyway just saw this and was interested what you had to say! Lord knows I love watching your music videos and this one was informative!! Very cool 😎
This was a shocker to me. Thank you! I just started posting 2 weeks ago and have been getting about 1,000 views per video and wondering how to start increasing that. I thought doing more current songs would be the ticket, but I will definitely start including the classics!
Yeah Same I thought the same thing as well, since for me it had appeared to be the opposite 😅 my more current songs had more views but I’m also not getting thousands 😂
Love the insight! Been covering Taylor mostly, but been wanting to expand my own repertoire (it’s great to learn from the classics too, just in terms of making music). Keep making great content!
Thanks for this video!! Very helpful advice. Being a youtuber for 12 years it's not an easy process but it's a journey for sure. It's great to see other youtubers helping each other out, especially the smaller channels because it can feel discouraging, and people will be so quick to give up when they don't get the views or results they want but it takes time and you gotta be persistent because youtube will only promote really active channels.
Wow thanks for this it’s hard to grind but I love making music and it’s so fun to share it with people. Isn’t that what music is about and I love watching others play sing and out themselves out there 😻
Miracles of Modern Science did a similar tactic - they did many quirky covers of pop songs, and with their unusual setup they were very interesting to listen to. Then they released some of their original stuff and it got even better. A shame they're not together anymore :(
Hey Chris, thanks for this video. It grounds me in a good way. And no, I don´t want to selfpromote here😅 I really liked your relaxed way of seeing things realistically. Cheers Ingo
This is such a relevant video. I am starting out my channel right now (from scratch), and I can't seem to figure out what kind of music to feature - the trending pop songs (which i do not really enjoy tbh), or the classic ones which I love so much (but does the internet love them?). Thanking for makin this video, and reaffirming my faith in the classics :)
Hiii, thanks for your amazing tips 🎉 it is super helpful fir me as a passionate about music, playing with rhythm, diving into the world of hits, and spreading energetic vibes across the globe. 😊❤🎶✨
Chris La Vie En Rose was absolutely beautiful. Really nice of you to guide others on getting more RUclipsrs and writing songs, I can tell you were brought up well. As someone said in a comment, you must be an amazing friend.
Thank You so much for the advice, my mom told me the same thing today, I usually always cover artists like Taylor Swift, 5SOS, Melanie Martinez etc, but she said I should cover artists like Celine Dion etc and after watching this video I will!
Thanks Chris! I have a few follow up questions to this..it would be great if you could answer.. 1- I see you do not advertise on RUclips, so how do you plan to earn from this? 2- How worthwhile do you think it is uploading on RUclips to make it in music considering there are so many other people trying to do the same thing? You may choose not to reply to these, in either cases thanks for this video!!
I do monetize my channel. Covers don't make much money, but it does add up if you get enough views. I am not really worried about making a living on youtube right now. I am trying to build a community. I think youtube is still the best place to do that.
At first I figured this video was not going to be that relevant as it might be slightly outdated, but this was some solid insight! The Taylor Swift example is great haha. Thank you for your knowledge :)
Thank you my friend for the honesty!🙏 I hope your channel grows more, you deserved it. Your content is great.🙌 Your music is really good!🙌 Keep it up! 💪Subscribed. ✅
You're right self promotion doesn't work, I'm trying music for like 2 and half years now, I make covers and original songs it kinda hurts that.... I am losing hope , even though my name is hope and I want to make a home for my subscribers
Another hot tip, invest in a decent mic. Your phone does perfectly fine for video but the phone audio is garbage. There are a ton of good reasonably priced mics out there. I found one called "Audigo" and I gotta say that thing was worth every penny of the $250 it cost me. It bluetooths straight to your phone and is 100% wireless and mobile. Might be for the worst cause I ain't a good singer but at least now I can hear the vocals in my videos.
ThanKS brother I just wanted to give you a shout out because I wanted to learn how to at lover and I watch 20 plus videos and didn't really feel the way I wanted to sing it like and I liked yours the best and I learned how to play it and working on singing it now you are a great inspiring artist and good guy
Are you saying that pop song listeners are not interested in covers, and only classic rock listeners are? I think you are saying that.... I play Jazz, which is even more niche. So maybe I should do some Beatles Jazz tunes?
The musician who is reading this will be successful someday, claim it!
Thank you
Thanks
I wish
Thank You
@Gallardo mind ur own business
I followed you when I first started three years ago and this video really helped me
As a young musician who just created this channel posting my own songs, thank you
Me too
This was actually some solid advice, I appreciate you not sugar coating and keeping it blunt along with practical.

I'm just having a tough time
Keep going!
Good reminder that not every viewer is going to want to subscribe, no matter how well (or not) you play something - it depends to a significant extent on why they're there.
I subscribed for this reason I ask myself why am I not subscribing to all these people grinding 🥹
Thanks so much for the video! I enjoy making music and this was very helpful advice! 10/10!
It's hard to make your own creative way, but without creativity, there is no freedom.
Thank you so much for sharing! Hearing you discuss your analytics was quite a relief to me that my content isn't faring particularly badly and quite motivating. All the best with continuing to grow your channel ❤

My music channel is more about playing covers and a bunch of instruments, but this still helps. Thanks man!

Nice and honest advice 👌. I just started a channel a few days ago for fun😊 I just subscribed to your channel tho.
My music channel has grown subscribers recently but no view at all and I'm still working on it. Thanks for sharing.
There is something to be said about covering popular music.
Thanks man. Makes a lot of sense. I'll put it to the test!
1 sub for 180 views is actually really good
I have a music channel that is not growing at all. I don't know what to do, I've already tried everything.

Thanks Chris! I have a few follow up questions to this..it would be great if you could answer..

good stuff - I do both covers and originals. Will pay attention on doing more classic songs.
