I have the Universal audio Orion instead of the Galaxy 74 that is shown off today. It does not include the reverb and tap tempo part but it uses the same authentic algorism as the Galaxy. It was just recently on sale for $100.00 USD. At that price it was a no-brainer purchase. I owned the real Maestro EchoPlex tape machine and this absolutely nails it!!!
Pete just FYI you got the subdivisions of by one place when you started naming them, the first one was dotted eighth notes you got that one right then quarter note triplets - eighth notes - eighth note triplets - sixteenth notes
Lee.... sorry that you didn't mention the original digital delay which was a rack mount that every major recording studio and every major musical artist used was offered by Eventide Clockworks (as they were known back in the day) in 1971 with the 1745 Digital Delay Line. I soldered many of those circuit boards sitting opposite the founder of the company !
Nice job gentlemen. I decided to go big when i got my first delay pedal the Grand Caynon by EHX. It does so much but has a big learning curve! I am still experimenting (fumbling sometimes) with all the modes/types (and I haven’t ventured into the looping functions!). The saving grace for me is that the Grand Canyon has a preset function for each decay type. Had I seen this video first, I would have started out with an easier delay. Thanks for this as always there are nuggets of info for where I am now in my guitar journey.
delay is one of my favourite effects. Massive choice in pedals. I use a wampler pedal, can't remember name, big light blue pedal, with tap and it's voiced like tape with modulation on repeats if i wish. so it sits behind the original guitar, not a perfectly clear digital repeat.
Great educational content, thank you both very much. I just picked up a simple but excellent 3 mode delay called Silos. It has digital, analogue and tape delay modes as well as expression control, tap tempo, 6 presets and a momentary or latching foot switch. Perfect delay for my simple delay needs. Thanks guys ❤️the channel
That was fun! Delay is my number one modulation effect. I don't know how many delay pedals I have, but it's a lot. Always learn from you guys. Pete's plating gives so many ideas. I only have a smaller Memory Man. May need to get the 550 or 1100.
@@leftymike5625 Strymon TimeLine is not cheap, but its quality is worth it. As a reverb I love Strymon Cloudburst. With additional expression pedal You can have effectively 2 presets and the ability to blend in between. Cheers.
I frequently use the Boss DD500, Korg SDD 3000 and the TC Electronic 2290 (latest pedal). For some crazy cool sounds I also enjoy the Keeley Caverns as well (albeit a Delay and Reverb combo). All from Anderton's of course, apart from the SDD3000. That was a little hard to acquire. Really enjoy these videos. Thanks Lee and Pete! :)
Love the horizon devices flux echo. Mainly use the middle analog mod but nice to have the reverse delay and type delay option with the different reverbs
here is my experience. i have 2 delay pedals. a boss dd500 and a echoplex delay. the boss has one million options and it can do everything. i actually like it, but i wouldn't buy it again. the echoplex was recommend to me in a music store and it sounds fantastic. you know, it makes the guitar sound better. i think it's owesome. anyone with same experience?
Some would modify tape machines. Blackmore modified an AIWA tape recorder for boost and delay. He tried it with a different brand, but the AIWA delay repeats didn't interfere with his playing. The repeats would only happen at the end of his phrasing.
Great video once again. I never really got into delays before, but I played around with a friends Kemper a couple weeks ago and started to add delays. I've also been playing a lot of Nile Rodgers songs lately. _And_ one of my favourite songs is Let's Dance. So yeah... that's the universe telling me I need a delay I guess 😄 I gotta say.. that tape delay might have nostalgia value for a lot of people, but I didn't really like it. Same with the analog delay. My gear (and taste) are all vintage sounding enough. I think I'd like a nice clean digital delay to go with that. Anybody feel free to recommend me stuff. I'm leaning towards the Boss DD series. I don't need too many options so the old DD3 would be alright I guess?
I go back and forth on delay pedals. I want something simple, like a Carbon Copy. When I use the CC, I want something digital with more options. I get a TC Nova Delay and then I want something more simple again.
I had an MXR analog delay, and it only had 500 milliseconds max... It was not a good replacement for my echoplex! And two birds with one stone, Brian May was the MOST relevant artist for using a delay! And there was no way that the analog delay could replicate his echoplex modifications, so it failed horribly for me! I finally found the DD 20, that give me 1800 milliseconds of delay, in stereo!
I have a delay pedal fetish. A delay fetish in general (I have a few old 19” rack units). I have the LVX and it is my fave. And the Volante for a purpose built Tape delay.
awwww man I so want one of those Binson's I just can't... well I can but I really shouldn't...... but maybe I should you can't take it with ya right?...
Pardon the Delay: Boss DDs Throughout Time would be interesting to me, though not the place, probably. I have a DD7 but I don't know why I have that one and not another number.
My strymon dig pedal has a broken time knob. The potentiometer took a bump while struggling with the velcro. What a bummer. Not very economical to send it to the factory.
How the delay comes in? I think that's a more confusing way to describe the note value of the delay you choose. The note value will determine what note value is repeated in accordance to the time/tempo the delay time set.
Love the channel, much appreciate you but.. To be clear, the Boss DM101 delay was supposed to "stay on the channel" after you tested it, you called it the best analog delay on the market... and the only stereo one... and yet, where the F is it? Are you having a gas at our expense or deliberately making me wonder about consistency and honesty? Let me guess, the next fuzz pedal shootout you do, you will conveniently not have the Swollen Pickle or the Boss Waza Fuzz on there...? right?
@@alexanderdenison2950 I don't know, that's why i wanted an explanation. My ears can hear it though. I can the tell the tone of my amp sounds different and not nearly as good with a digital pedal hooked up to it.

I did enjoy the Re-Pete at the start of this 😁
I'm still pushing for a Pete signature pedal with this name!!! Purple RePete
Every time I hear the Crystal mode of the TC Electronic Flashback I just want to smile. 😊
I have an EHX Canyon for digital delay and an MXR Carbon Copy for analog... Absolutely love both of those pedals.
I’ve seen a lot of people selling the deluxe Canyon for pretty inexpensive, right now.
I think there’s a really well priced new one on Reverb.
Delay is just the best. Definitely my desert island pedal!
You can do so many things with it, it’s much more versatile than people believe
Especially if it has a preamp with input level knob
Pete is so good - can quickly do anything.
pete is so casual people forget he’s a well respected session player. he’s deadly
I am a fan of the Mooer Re-echo. It is cheap, small, flexible, simple and sounds lovely.
