Relieved that Selmar's news is not that he's moving away. Finally, he is getting paid and has his papers to work in France. Congratulations! Loved Dan's removing trees that obscured the view to the lake. It's moving along so well.
I know, when I saw the title of this vlog, I was almost afraid to watch. But then I remembered that he was talking about building the walkway pergola and realized he can’t be going anywhere to soon. 😀
It is not about taxes, the document that he is holding says "récépissé de dépôt de dossier de création d’entreprise", which means that he is setting up his own company. This is the receipt on handing in his "dossier" for creating a company.

Stephanie When you dredge out the lake bed be sure to save that very rich soil to use in in your landscaping projects as a top dressing and for fill to level up your lawns and terraces.
So recently a picture of my friends' baby popped up in my Facebook feed. The post stated that this lucky girl is just a year old, and she had already lived in French castle like a princess for a month. I take a look at the surroundings and see a familiar terracotta tile on the floor. And then a familiar Jarvis art. And I realize, they were staying at Lalande! So I write to my friend, and he confirms, and indeed they did. And in the first video he watched he spots his wife playing a piano during a final performance of the summer workshop. I live in Ukraine and my friend is Belarusian living in Paris. Such a small world)
Stephanie, you most definitely NEED a chipper. Not only would it lesson the amount of burning you would have to do, but it would produce plenty of mulch for your vegetable and other garden beds. It would also save a ton of time and work for Dan, freeing him up to do more skilled gardening tasks. I speak from experience on my parents’ property. Formerly, bushes and trees that needed to be cleared had to be cut down, cut up into smaller peaces that would fit on a trailer, driven to the burning spot and burnt, weather permitting. The amount of time and labour involved compared with cutting and feeding into the chipper is significant. The chipper is worth its weight in gold.
I would say the butterfly was Stephanie’s father saying he agrees about the trees coming down around the lake, especially as it landed on Isabelle’s hand !🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Can I also say Stephanie, your use of the English language is just amazing! I love how descriptive you are of every moment, person, scene, landscape... "with the dappled sunlight on the path😍" I mean come on!!! You are a walking thesaurus. Love It!! ❤️
Dan did a great job clearing and making a better view. Those saplings grow so quickly. Can't wait til the time the Lake can be filled. As someone mentioned keep the soil when cleaning out the lake bed area, which will be very rich for other projects, like the garden and other areas.
I am so so so excited to hear Selmar’s good news! He has already done so much to improve the chateau. Does he have to legally change his name to Ian? My husband and I have a stay booked for next June (fingers crossed), and I cannot wait to see the changes that have been made by that time.
The chateau is starting to remind me more and more of a Wes Anderson movie....full of wonderful, quirky characters with larger than life personalities.... set against a colorful, vibrant backdrop. 😊
I am so excited for all the changes and Selmar's workshop to be is wonderfully exciting. One day I WISH we could have a Selmar here, we'd plenty for him to do haha.

So happy that Selmar has his official working papers! Congratulations! As the trees were coming down I was so sad, yet I understand why they should be removed. I am conflicted by my head and my heart. I am facing that conflict here at home too. I need the help of Dan, Davy, and Selmar. Looking forward to seeing the creativity of these talented men. And Isabelle, I hope it's true that Percy will be able to travel to France soon. I will keep you both in my prayers 💖🙏.
I too have conflicted thoughts on so many trees coming down but am relying on the professional knowledge of the men in charge. I do know trees also need one another, I am hoping this is also kept in mind and not only the aesthetics.
Dan is doing an amazing job.... Watching him cutting the trees was also very satisfying 😂 and CONGRATS TO SELMAR, what wonderful news. I'm really happy for you and knowing you will be able to stay longer at Lalande is just amazing!! Thanks Stephanie for this wonderful vlog. Enjoyed it a lot. ☺️❤️

If I haven't said it before, you need your own network where we can keep up with everyone in one spot. I love all the people who are producing their own channels. Used to get so depressed when they moved on. Now Selmar and Dan have been added to my day. I may stay on lockdown until US citizens are allowed back in France!

congratulations Selmar! You are truly a pure soul. Stephanie is very fortunate to have you there as friend and employee. As for the Chapel. Can I ask what happened to the family's five year old son? How sad. I had no idea it was built in his memory. It's quite the special chapel. So special! Thanks Stephanie for keeping us all smiling and part of your virtual "Chateau" family. It means quite a lot, especially during these difficult times. Big hugs to all there. Ella
As a Permaculturist my heart is singing with all the things I could do. I have to find my restraint from stating them all here and then the sadness of the ideas not happening, so I am going to do it anyway and hope for the best and just get on with it. A chipper for the trees cut down and make mulch for the beds. I know its work, but it is better to chip it or "chop and drop" than to burn it, especially being that its the end of the summer and was a slightly dry year. There have been enough fires, big and small. Put the carbon in the ground instead of the air. Rainwater catchment. Redirect the downspouts from the eaves and from the terrace so there isn't the soil erosion. Channel the rainwater to the gardens or tanks. There are lots of resources for this online. As its hard to read the landscape through video, I couldn't tell if that was erosion until it was mentioned in this video. Redirect the guttering from the roof. Plant christmas trees seedlings so that you don't have to buy ones from the store. Christmas trees all throughout the edges of the forest so you can harvest them for future Christmas'. Or Plant 6 a year so that you have many supplies for each following year when they get to size. Plant all kinds of trees. I would really love to see a sister planting from Billy and Gwendoline's lovely Chateau that Michael keeps referring to, the copper beech I believe. A sister circle planting in the far corner near the dry mote on the north part of the land (think its north) along the road that the town is fixing. Most of the rooms on the lake side of the chateau can see it and wouldn't block views as its already blocked with smaller trees. And if you are going to thin the close area around the sequoia (I am SOOOO jealous that you have that tree, not the chateau lol but the land and forest, that tree) that you can plant others deeper in the forest or around the edges to replace the ones being taken down. Transplant out any seedlings in that area so you don't have to take them out in the next 2 years. I think that will do for now, just a few suggestions. So glad for Selmar. Cheers.
Good news all the way round, especially for Selmar! We are extremely happy for you, Selmar. Enjoyed seeing Dan cutting down the trees; he is so hardworking, too. It was fun seeing your little group going out to celebrate, too. Thank you, Stephanie for empowering everyone around you.
His status is that of a self-employed person, he can work for whoever he likes and isn't tied to Chateau de La Lande as their employee. He will invoice them for the work he does on the chateau.
How exciting that Selmar is officially self employed! Congratulations!🥳 Such a wonderful view that is now at the back of the chateau! I think the idea of getting rid of the smaller trees to make the other trees stand out is an excellent idea! Such a wonderful vlog today! Thank you so much!💛
Great advice from the landscape team. And congratulations to Selmar, well deserved. Great that you guys were able to help him out. Not sure if anyone has commented, but the big tree is a bit small for a Sequoiadendron(?). Seqoias would likely do well there with the water and sun though. They are much slower if they don't have sun. If that is the foliage on the right, it is likely a Thuja Plicata (Western redceder). If it's a bit slower and shorter it may be Thuja Occidentalis (Eastern white ceder). These are not true Cedars like your Cedar of Lebanon/Deodara you have there. You can test it by crushing the foliage. If it smells like crushed green apples you have a Thuja. If it is more bitter lemon, you have a cypress. The foliar scales are thicker and wider on Thuja than cypress too. If you plant cuttings they grow like Leyland Cypress (leylandii). Juvenile trees don't look much like the adults at all, unlike Sequoiadendrons. These are great for flower arranging (in winter as well). They will back bud (unlike cypress), so you don't have to worry so much about clipping stuff off them. They are shade tolerant so they will grow in established woodlands. You can get some very nice oil from these trees too. Watch out clearing large trees from around them if they are in shade. Thuja burn easily in full sun. Low risk of wind throw, their roots are quite robust. Just watch out if the soil is shallow or loose. Get your landscape guys to look at your woodland(s). You'll likely have neglected coppice there if the Chateaux builders were worth their salt. With previously managed woodlands, it's possible to put back original biodiversity like putting back original wallpaper. Are there any universities near? Consider improving upon the lake they built before by incorporating littoral zones and stocking them with native species. You might get an island in there too if there is no planning, another way to improve biodiversity. Look for government grants on woodlands and waterways if you haven't already. Get some cool seasonal trees on the island like bald cypress, larches or dawn redwoods. Awesome job so far. Beautiful place!

@@Michelle-wk4ek (Moira Ashton) Because when Stephanie introduced Hanni a couple of week ago, she said she was a patreon,.

I’m So happy you’re employing Selmar! I was watching early on when he was showing the work he’d done to create the new wood shop and I was thinking that it’s a shame the chateau cannot employ Selmar too, since there is so much work to be done! I’m overjoyed that this is exactly the case! I’m so glad for my small part as a Patron to help see another needed position filled at the chateau! Yay for everyone!
💓Congratulations 🥳 to Selmar on becoming a Self Employed Handyman the 1st dancing handyman La Lande has had, you can’t get any better than that, Well done Selmar💓
No surprise to anyone that knows me that this was my favorite episode ever. Garden planning and Selmar in the wood shed. It’s perfect.
Bravo Selmar! Gainful employment at last ! Great work Dan!
Lovely how Steff called Selmar their "mighty steed" 😂 And may I point out that the manual to Selmar's new potentially deadly tools is considerably thinner than that to Mummy's toaster!🤔
🤣🤣🤣
She was referring to the tractor as a mighty steed, not Selmar.
@@Sparrowdean I know😉 But the camera was pointed on Selmar🙃
@@fionasimagination Selmar wad sitting atop the tractor and they were sitting behind Selmar, his back was naturally in shot.
@@Sparrowdean Don't worry. I was just joking 😘
Selmar has such a calm, presence ❤️ and is so clever with everything he puts his mind too ❤️❤️
Congratulations Selmar! You deserve the very best! Stephanie is blessed to have him at La Lande. 🥳🥂🥳🇨🇦
Yay Selmar is staying!! 💕
My name is Lorraine Quinn and I'm a Lalandeholic 🤪
It's possible you will have to follow a twelve step program.
@@ntakovacj3644 Will you please be my sponser? 😁 xx
We are all Lalandeholics and this is the support group 😆
@@lorrainequinn but Lorraine -- I haven't gone through the 12 step program myself -- I decided I want to remain a Lalandaholic even if I never move from my seat here in front of the computer.
:D :D :D ha ha ha!
Congrats to Selmar! I'm so glad he'll become an even more permanent member of the Lalande team! 🤩
Congratulations to Selmar! Loved this episode. It's so wonderful to actually see the projects you were just dreaming of last year come to fruition. Can I also say Stephanie, your use of the English language is just amazing! I love how descriptive you are of every moment, person, scene, landscape... "with the dappled sunlight on the path😍" I mean come on!!! You are a walking thesaurus. Love It!! ❤️
Yay! Selmar is officially a member of the Lalande workforce!
Congrats Selmar! That's wonderful news. Thanks to Mummy too for all her help. :))))
I love Selmar's hearty laugh 😄. So pleased your paperwork is settled. 👏👏🌺🌹🌼🌺🌹🌼🌺🌻
I've been itching to see the clearing of the view to the lake site for ages
Dave is brilliant!!! I was trained by a master landscape architect & Dave has huge life experience with chateau's! Excellent ideas discussed today!!
I am so pleased for Selmar.
Congratulations Selmar well done👏
Cutting down trees -- "like plucking eyebrows!" haha! So true!
So lucky to have Selmar. You need to clone him and send me one to Australia:)
I second that im in Melbourne and I'd love a Selma here too.
@@michellehaynes7055 I'm in Melbourne too but not enough garden at my house for him to work in, sadly.
Okay but if a younger Prince Charles and Josh Groban had a son, it would be Davy
Didn't notice that till you spilt the words. LOL
Yes I was about to say that too, Davy does look like Josh Groban
Yes! That's too funny
Etienne S I thought Josh Groben the second I saw him. I touch of Charles didn’t occur to me. But yeah. I see Charles in there too.
Handsome and seems very knowledgeable
THANK-YOU!! so Happy Selmar can stay and fill Lalande with his skills!!
Do you know what I love , I love that we are all with you on this journey, so much so it feels like part of my life! I'm sat here in Australia at 5.30 am with a cupootea in bed ( fresh linen) , it's a lovely start to the day, so thank you Stephanie, my sister and I hope one day to come and say hello! X
Congrats 🥳 Selmar, you rock, love you and all u do and Diesel too 💕❤️💯✅🇨🇦
So happy that Selmar has his official working papers!
"It's Baked Alaska" was the funniest bit and a great ending.
Love how small Mummy looks next to the house when you are all leaving for dinner. It really shows how grand the Chateau is
Loving Davy's insight on the landscape and so glad that Selmar is getting paid!
Congratulations Selmar!
I'm jealous of Selmar's carpentry shop and table saw.
Yay Selmar can be paid!!!! Woohoo!!!!
Also, I love to listen to all the names at the end of each video and hear the list getting longer!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Lalande creates community, and it’s such a joy to see it thrive!! 🥰👏🏻
The landscaping is amazing! What a difference!
And Selmar becoming an official self employed "mystical tango carpenter".
Beautiful!
If I haven't said it before, you need your own network where we can keep up with everyone in one spot. I love all the people who are producing their own channels. Used to get so depressed when they moved on. Now Selmar and Dan have been added to my day. I may stay on lockdown until US citizens are allowed back in France!
The view is sooooo much nicer with those trees gone. It will be nice to see the Boat House soon.
There is a very early vlog where stephanie goes down to the boathouse with her good friend david and discusses what they could do with it but i cant remember which one, sorry !!!😁😁😁
Jill Scott michael Potts also has an awesome picture of the boathouse on his website🥰
@@mariak9727 Oh, i did not see that. Thanks for the info.
congratulations Selmar!
Ella
The little boy drowned in the castle moat, circa 1865. The chapel was built in his memory.
Congratulations to Selmar. Wonderful news.
Congratulations to Selmar.
I love reading your descriptions under the videos. You are the master of words.
That´s due to an excellent British education... also, a lot of hard work from Stephanie!
I never realized it was there! I’m going to start reading it from now on. Thanks!
Dan did an incredible job with those trees. Such a big difference!
Cheers.
Congratulations, Selmar!!! 🎉😃🎉
You’re going to do great things!! 🌲🏰🌲
I just know it! 😊
CONGRATULATIONS SELMAR!!! 🎉🍾👍👏👏👏
So happy for selmar. Such great news!
Stephanie.....I’m so happy for you with all the progress being made to the chateau !! 😃
Lalande is looking more beautiful with every video!
✨🏰✨
I'm so excited that we'll get to keep seeing Selmar at the Chateau!
Really, really enjoyed this video today, love seeing things being done at the chateau, very exciting❣️
Congratulations, Selmar, as the Mystic Caretaker/Handyman! Very exciting to open up the lake view. Merci!
Good for you Selmar! Once again Dan is Mummy’s favorite. Lol maybe his kids can come over to see the Bomb fire of trees! Well done all
Good news all the way round, especially for Selmar! We are extremely happy for you, Selmar. Enjoyed seeing Dan cutting down the trees; he is so hardworking, too. It was fun seeing your little group going out to celebrate, too. Thank you, Stephanie for empowering everyone around you.
Selmar will be on the payroll! What wonderful news! Wonderfull Stephanie never let him go!! 🎊
His status is that of a self-employed person, he can work for whoever he likes and isn't tied to Chateau de La Lande as their employee. He will invoice them for the work he does on the chateau.
Would it be great if tools company like Black & Decker, Bosch, Makita, etc. to sponsor a few episodes. 🙏🏼🤞
Brilliant suggestion!!!
That would be great if they would donate rechargeable power tools for work that is far from outlets and a log splitter for Selmar.
That’s a great idea! I’ve seen a lot of DIY get free tools etc and they don’t even use them.
I agree with clearing the smaller trees to highlight the sequoias and other specimens you have throughout the property.
How exciting that Selmar is officially self employed! Congratulations!🥳
Such a wonderful view that is now at the back of the chateau! I think the idea of getting rid of the smaller trees to make the other trees stand out is an excellent idea!
Such a wonderful vlog today! Thank you so much!💛
Loved the tree clearing. The gentleman seemed very knowledgeable.
Ohhhh Gefeliciteerd Selmar met deze officiele documenten.Woot woot.
Congratulations have your papers now to make the castle even more beautiful then it already is. Me I was gone for a while and have to look to all the video's that I missed.
Yes Selmar is staying on. Greatest news ever 😃. The lake view is amazing can’t wait more. La Lon forest is so beautiful what a treasure.
The dancing handyman! Brilliant. I just love you guys so much. Such joy radiating. God bless you all.

Suggest Davey produces some drawings of the garden. Online. 3D images or hand-drawn. And show some Capability Brown vistas. Whow, whow, whow!
@maggie grey. Wouldn't that be great!
I had thought the same thing. Get his ideas in drawings with detailed ways to accomplish the plans to move ahead on the projects. He knows his stuff. And has a vision like an artist does. Get that artistry out of his head and onto paper. 👍
