So many interesting aspects to the Antwerp six that are so fascinating. Even down to how the fashion department in the Royal Academy of Fine Arts was formulated and encouraged their designers to think in an artistic way. I also love the stories of the things they all brought to the British Designer show in London’s Olympia. E.g: Dries Van Noten - a small selection of men’s jackets and shirts Ann Demeulemeester - a few pairs of sunglasses Dirk Bikkembergs - a shoe collection It shows how they were really just winging it and taking every chance as it came. Such a refreshing era to look into.
It's super interesting how they did it. Considering how they all must have brought so little I guess they really had no option but to show as a group. Any chance you remember where you heard what they brought? Sounds like an interesting read/listen.
Hii, I’m from Brussels, Belgium. I’ve only realised while studying in the Netherlands this year how the Belgian culture is so focussed on individualism and uniqueness. I loved how someone said they went to london and just winged it, in brussels we would say “vite fait” which means just doing something quickly without putting much effort into it, but still having something to show. It keeps surprising me how my small country keeps putting out these amazing artists and designers. Loved the video
@@Peachnight I hope not!! Leopold II did such terrible things and the government had to take over the colony, but didn’t do much about the cruelty either. i’ve been currently researching more about it and spreading awareness, also about the human zoo of 1897 and expo 58. the fact that there are still reminders of this history (eg. the Atomium) that tourists just happily walk by is saddening. Belgium is so glorified, for sure in the fashion industry, which makes it hard for people to see the harsh reality on what this country has been built on.
One of the best reasons i am happy to be from antwerp i went to walter his stocksale and the cool thing is that his stocksales are held at his atelier where he makes everything. If you are around his atelier you actually see him a lot he was also just chilling at the stocksales
I was fortunate enough to meander and peruse in Antwerp 3 months ago. I also have a vlog about it. I totally forgot that Walter teaches at the Royal academy. We also went to Ann Dem on the day they did the Paris show and she even rang in the store’s phone to check on things ( accdg to the shop assistant) crazyyyy
I choose to focus my graduate thesis on the importance of old and new Antwerp fashion scene so this was really helpful, where can I find some info about Antwerp designer excluding the ordinary articles on the main websites?
I found the book '50 years of fashion academy' really interesting. There is a lot of in-depth information about their time at the academy but also on how they started and all the steps they took along the way. Worth reading it!
Yo dude thought it was worth noting that Dirk van Saene teaches at the Antwerp Fashion School so he isn’t as seperated from fashion as media make him out to be 😁
Can’t tell if my fashion sense is poor or highly anointed for knowing the only 3 that you didn’t mention on face value, admittedly after naming the other few they are immediately recognizable
You see Walter and Dirk walk around and shop together quite often
How cool

@@fashionlover4 Walter told me when I spoke to him in Belgium - not sure if that part of the conversation made it into the interview I posted though
@@fashionlover4 there’s also a dries van noten book where it’s mentioned it’s called “Dries Van Noten : Shape, Print and Fabric”

I wish Marina would get more recognition. I love her designs so much, it’s incredible

Raf Simmons is one of my fav designers. I love his minimalistic style with a twist.

Great video! What sources should I use for further learning the Antwerp 6?
Banger video! Antwerp 6 such a game changer group
This video was fantastic, I love your more deep dive videos, and use of b roll, I could watch this all day, keep it up gifted tailor
good shit man, always grateful to learn new details to these age old stories and legends
Is the belt Martin is wearing on the catwalk an inverted pentagram, interesting!
The way that people talked about them, it's like as though they changed the world fundamentally. But really, they sold clothes, that's about it.
Do you know where Dirk Bikkembergs is today? Rarely anything about the man himself online. Thank you, great talk.
Omg my biggest dream is to get into the royal academy in Antwerp.
Bungee boots are indeed goated, too bad I got boat feet lmao.
i concur, the bungee metal hell is indeed the goat
Dries Von Noten sold his company to Puig.He is still the creative director.
It's either Dries got 49% minority or 51% majority I forget

Makes you think of whether Josephus Thimister would still be with us if he had a group like this with him...
Why are they all so damn attractive

Dries Van Noten SS23 Men's
agree that the dirk boots are elite.

Yo bro you killing this shit lmfao
In this world tame impala is a 5 member boy band
Saene is more pronounced like saa nuh
Oh wow never would've guessed that, thanks
It’s pretty hard to describe the pronunciation exactly but that’s the closest I can get it, the ea is more like a long dutch a

I had 1 minut mindfuck seeing this title
Im apart of Gen z and I won't disappoint
You should make videos on lesser known just as talented belgian disgners from belgium/ antwerp, like Stephan Schneider
I liked the video because of the furry. That’s it.
What the hell is this title
My mistake
@@fashionlover4now my comment is outdated
Saene rhymes with Shah-nuh
