Your last statement just did it for me.

After listening to you ladies, I had to it. You ladies are wrong, Abati is wrong. Please leave your culture out of this. He was really unprofessional.
If you go to court and there's a young judge, you will refer to that judge as yes my Lord, that's the normal procedure.
On air they use their first name. If you're on a flight, in a case of emergency you say mayday mayday. These things are universal. The lady did nothing wrong.

This is rubbish! We are in Nigeria and our culture and values must be respected regardless. It’s so embarrassing how we black people make the white man’s culture the global standards, that’s why we are never respected and regarded. Very valid angle. I think it is an unconscious bias. I also believe that Reuben Abati needs to come down from any high horse he seems to be seating. Just last month he did something similar to a female correspondent Kachi Offia and he was called out a lot in the comment section of their RUclips channel.
I think Arise Tv should rise to the occasion and say in clear terms what it's Code of Conduct is as regards the way their staff address one another before every Tom, Dick and Harry does it on their behalf.

There must likely have been a previous counters on ground between the lady and Reuben. He lacks humility and professionalism.
I was once in a company where you use first name. It was a culture whether official or unofficial. The purpose was for everyone to be free with everyone. No barriers to approaching anyone. If you have any problem, feel free to talk to your bosses. If you add any prefix to the name, the person won't attend to you. You are on your own. At that point you have no choice but to use his or her first name. This is a company in Nigeria with mature educated ones from all tribes.
We just like to be bossy. As a leader, you have to be a friend and be approachable. Junior guys too should be respectful even while using first name.

Mr. Reuben Abati took it personal. He was trading the traditional way of addressing seniors in our society. That is understandable. But, professionally, there is nothing wrong with that because they are colleagues. Globally, it is a common practice, colleagues in the media industry address each other by their names. It doesn't mean that she was being disrespectful. Profession and Tradition are two different things.

I think you started out okay but took it to a place that was disingenuous talking about some sort of class bias. On Arise news, the ladies who feature with him call him Dr Abati, the only people who call him Reuben are much older than his co-presenters.
I think Dr Abati has a right to decide how he wants to be addressed, but I he was wrong to call her out on tv, he has easy access to her as a colleague and could have reached out to her when the camera was off to say "I don't want you addressing me like this, but address me as such and such, and she in turn could have said okay, this is how you ought to address me too. It made everyone look bad that he would react like that publicly especially since she clearly meant no disrespect.
