Reuben. Look at you repeatedly referring to the governor as Wike, Wike. Yet, it’s on record how you tore into a young female reporter and berated her for calling you by your first name without the title, ‘Dr’. If this is not hypocrisy, please define it for me. I don’t care what’s happening between you and Gov. Wike (and I’m not holding brief for him). You should regulate your response better than what you displayed in this clip. I studied Journalism but I don't think I can delude myself that I am in the same class with Abati who was a Journalism teacher or something but I am totally ashamed of how Abati practices his own Journalism these days.I have said this again and again in the past .Wike does not have the capacity or intellect to teach Abati Journalism according to Abati.I agree.Wike is not a Journalism professor he is a lawyer but that means he has some intellectual capacity he is not a moron. All these big grammar because he expressed an opinion that you people should have engaged in investigative Journalism to have more insight on Atiku and his claim? I have seen him use almost the same expression for an IPOB lawyer during an interview.During an interview recently he had an outburst of anger on live television against someone he was interviewing and told the interviewee that that was his studio and that he was in charge and that the poor fellow had no right to mess with him in his domain (not exactly in these wirds) In my comment I did tell Abati that pride is a bad thing. The problem with Abati is that he feels he knows so much.In his bloated and deluded thinking he is the only most highly educated person in the media.I have seen him again and again lose it on live televisions. In saner climes he will have his ass kicked out of the media or at least get a writeup!I put it to Abati that he should be ashamed that he does not have a media outfit of his own since 1985 when he started Journalism according to him.He still works for people with all his so-called high intelligence and shakes and genuflects to his bosses in Arise TV so as not to lose his job.John Momoh was just an ordinary news caster when he founded Channels Television. That is what smartness means. With all his connections as a media aide to president Goodluck Jonathan and all his education and I-know-it-all attitude he is still an employee but feels so so self important.Abati pride is a bad trait.Work on your temper.Work on your deportment in public.Work on emotion control measure. NOTHING TOO PERSONAL FROM WHAT ABATI HAD SAID!
I understand that working for an organization is more of collectivism and promoting organization identity. However, that does not take away your individuality and professional identity or image. I think there's nothing TOO PERSONAL in what Abati was saying.
His professional image and individuality were crushed and dented in the eye of the public he serves by Wike. He's speaking up to put things in the right context before the public as well as preserving his career and professional image which was dented by Wike.

Personally, Rueben Abati is probably the journalist whom I have the highest respect for his intellect in Nigeria followed by Tundun Abiola but add poise and class to her. I still keep cuttings of his articles from when he was a columnist for The Guardian in the 90s. One piece he in 1993 titled 'A Hollow Symbolism' remains a standard for me. I actually think that he writes far better than he speaks. Unfortunately, he has been quite disappointing lately with his tantrums and penchant for joining issues with people who cross him. If Abati cannot manage the emotional diffidence required to operate in the television journalism space, he should go back to print and continue writing. I hate to see such a giant of the industry damaged by avoidable run ins with people who far less intellectually capable.

Loool. I think Reuben is confirming what people have been whispering all along - he is still a strong PDP man - recall he was PDP's Deputy Governorship candidate in Ogun State in 2019. He's clearly Atiku's man; and he sure as hell doesn't like Wike. He says he wasn't defending the Atiku camp but he was doing just that. He gave a lot of air time to articulating Atiku and whipping Wike. And then he craftily suggested to PDP to "lollipop" or "wallop" Wike to end Wike's "tantrums". Knowing PDP's antecedents, they will soon start crafting ways to give Wike the wallop treatment.
Reuben could have been more professional. He actually spent considerable time throwing his own tantrums - reeling out his CV and expending ego punches. I do wish he was this vocal when he was Goodluck Jonathan's special adviser.

That was a defamatory statement by Wike against ARISE News and Abati's professional image. Then, Abati felt he needed to respond to put things in the right context before the public by using his own platform address what Wike had said.
      WIKE
WIKE DIDN'T HANDLE IT WELL BY MAKING THOSE DEFAMATORY COMMENTS.
      ABATI
ABATI WAS TOO EMOTIONALLY SENSITIVE ON THE MATTER AND MADE SOME STATEMENTS OF PRIDE IN REACTION TO WIKE'S.
      THANK YOU!

He's speaking up to put things in the right context before the public as well as preserving his career and professional image in the public space which was dented by Wike.

I think you really felt hurt by Wike's comments Dr Abati. Well, I have always enjoyed you and the other arise team's commentaries but I must say that your interview with Atiku was disappointing in that you particularly seemed submissive and afraid of him while questioning him. And that's why Rufai was upset and emphatic in dismissing Atiku's shallow responses.

Dr. Abati once you are in the public domain people will talk about you. It doesn't really matter what people say about you but what matters most is your reaction. Really, to say the fact people will talk about you whether good or bad. The only way people will not talk about you is when you are not in public domain. Remember Dr. Rueben, part of your job is talking about people and that's part of what you do in in your station. You cant continue to talk about people and expect people not to talk about you. It does matter if Governor Nyesom Wike singled you out. Please learn these.

Dr. Abati has the rights to berates any one that berates him..Gov. Wike's action is totally uncalled-for. He should leave a journalists to practise their job. This explicitly shows that Gov. Wike influences the news reported by Rivers states' media house...Journalists have the rights to berates anyone. For example Fox News berates the useless and inhumane bills passed by Democrats
